Camino De La Luna - Reconciliation (Without Pictures)
"Camino De La Luna - Reconciliation" is the seventh and final book in the series (or ninth if you count "free Feeling Real Emotions Everyday" and "Japan Is Very Wonderful"). What divides us? What sets us against each other? What stops us from being able to come home to our true selves? I had found truth in Thailand, discovered another wall inside me and freed another part of my soul. There were things to be done, journeys to be taken, strangers to meet, mistakes and regrets to put right and only some of them were mine. But my mistakes alone were enough to change everything. I had started in Spain, this Camino de la Luna, though it started long before and will not end until I die, but where next? Would I finally cross the equator to the Southern Hemisphere, to Africa and could I ever heal the new wounds in my relationships, could I find reconciliation, or as they call it in South Africa, Ubuntu? Would I ever find peace... Would I ever put down my rucksack?

An Island Village
This book is a family narrative told through stories, memories and research about life on a small village named Colijnsplaat, located on North Beveland Island, Zeeland, in the North Sea. It is written by Beth Merizon, the daughter of the two emigrants from the Netherlands who made their home in America around the turn of the century. This work depicts everyday life in a remote area of the world where life revolved around the waterways surrounding the five islands of Zeeland. It is published posthumously, as the author passed away in 2003.

Contemporary Art from Cyprus
To what extent does locality influence contemporary art? Can any particular artistic practices be defined as uniquely Cypriot? And does art from Cyprus transcend Western boundaries once it enters the global art scene? This volume uses Cyprus as a case study for the exploration of notions of identity, regionalism, and the global and local in contemporary art practice; it is not, therefore, a complete historiography of contemporary Cypriot art. Rather, this critical text provides a theoretical and historical framework that frames and contextualizes art practices from Cyprus, while always relating these back to the international art world. Numerous current and pressing issues-all relevant beyond Cyprus-are investigated in this book including, but not limited to, art as capital, the emergence of the "periphery", the importance of thriving localities, issues of memory and memorialization, archaeology, artists' identities, conflict and politics, social engagement, gender politics, and such curatorial alternatives as artist-run spaces. In doing all of this, Contemporary Art from Cyprus not only bears on current and future art practices in this region but highlights the importance of Cypriot art in a global context too.

Are you planning a trip to Italy? Find out how to enjoy Italy's beauty to the fullest with a simple guideItaly has lured travelers since ancient times. Jutting out into the Mediterranean Sea, Italy naturally attracted travelers and invaders alike. In fact, most that came to this enchanting peninsula never left, drawn by the irresistible lure of Italy.Italy will likely remain a popular tourist destination for years to come, in part because of the artistic sites and cultural expression that all of these invaders and civilizations left behind. Many tourists are drawn to Italy by its beaches and monuments, but many find themselves bidden to stay by a force that they cannot completely describe.Of course, one of the most powerful draws to Italy is the legacy of Rome. Florence and Tuscany
Tuscany is in the central-western part of Italy on the Tyrrhenian Sea. It gets its name from an Etruscan tribe that settled the area about three thousand years ago. It has belonged to the Romans, the Lombards, and the Franks. More than four hundred years ago, under the Medici, Tuscany became a major European center under the Med. It is undoubtedly one of Italy's top tourist destinations and an ideal place for your villa when you hit it big, huge. Florence is the birthplace of the Italian Renaissance and the administrative center of Tuscany. It is one of Italy's top tourist destinations, whose sites of interest are too numerous to list here. Siena and Pisa are two other major tourist destinations. Tuscany is a center of industrial production, particularly metallurgy, chemicals, and textiles. Given the region's importance as an international art center for centuries, don't be surprised that it is an excellent place to appreciate and purchase fashion, jewelry, leather goods, marble, and other beauty items. Florence is the home of the house of Gucci. Tuscany produces a wide variety of cereals, olives, vegetables, and fruit. But not only vegetarians eat well. It is home to cattle, horses, pigs, and poultry. One local specialty is the wild boar. On the coast, seafood is abundant. Tuscany devotes over fifty thousand acres to grapevines; it ranks 4th among the 20 Italian regions. Its total annual wine production is about 58 million gallons, giving it 8th. About 70% of the wine production is red or rose', leaving 30% for white. The region produces 44 DOC wines. DOC stands for Denominazione di Origine Controllata, translated as Denomination of Controlled Origin, presumably a high-quality wine and 7 DOCG white wines. The G in DOCG stands for Garantita, but there is, in fact, no guarantee that such wines are truly superior. The region produces 9 DOCG wines. Tuscany also produces Super Tuscan wines, wines that may not have a prestigious classification but are known to be outstanding. This guide covers a visit to Florence and to Tuscany: the cities covered include Fiesole, Arezzo, Cortona, Chiusi, the Chianti region, Siena, Volterra, San Gimignano, Pisa, Carrara, Massa, the Versilia, Lucca, Pistoia, Montepulciano, Pienza, Grosseto, Massa Marittima, and Monte Argentario. There are extensive descriptions and photos of the attractions. The guide contains links to the websites of train and air travel companies. It also has a listing of many reviews for the best-recommended

Sicily
Eternal crossroads of the Mediterranean, Sicily's gorgeous island continues to seduce travelers with its dazzling diversity of landscapes and cultural treasures. Sicily: Do you want to learn about Greece? So come to Sicily. It is a paradox, for sure, but only to a certain extent. Sicily's Greek cities (Agrigento, Selinunte, Segesta, Syracuse, to mention the most important) were among the most beautiful Hellenic world. Nowadays, to visit the Valley of Temples at Agrigento or to watch a summer performance in Syracuse's great Greek Theatre is to plunge yourself into the remote Hellenic past. Sicily, it is also true for many other historical eras and civilizations, from the Spanish to the French. With the sole exception of Arab rule, that has left a short physical testimony. So instead, Sicily is a book of history and art history, a compendium of all time's greatest civilizations and cultures. Sicily is a sunny island whose landscape is rich in contrasts, with a splendid coastline and refined, delicious, and varied cuisine of traditional flavors and exquisite aromas. The quintessence of Mediterranean culture, yet also dense with intellectual complexity and refinement, so well represented by the literary masterpieces of Luigi Pirandello, Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa, Leo-nardo Sciascia, Gesualdo Bufalino, and today, Andrea Camilleri. This guide leads you on a week-long car drive on the Island of Sicily. Starting with Messina, touching the Aeolian Islands, and then Taormina, Acireale, Catania, Syracuse, Caltagirone, Piazza Armerina with its Roman Villa, Agrigento with the Greek Temples, Porto Empedocle, Selinunte, to arrive in Palermo, with a visit to Solunto and Monreale. The guide includes a section on Sicilian food. It includes photos and descriptions of all the localities' attractions and is ideal for use on your smartphone. In addition, it contains links to the websites of many reviews for the best-recommended restaurants at the location described.

Belgium - Culture Smart!
Don't just see the sights--get to know the people.Belgium has somehow acquired the reputation of being Europe's most boring country--a reputation that is entirely undeserved. But perhaps this bland image is a smokescreen, the conventional exterior hiding a subversive sense of humor, a surreal imagination, and a deep-rooted disdain for authority. Or perhaps it is a camouflage, a way in which Belgium, still overrun--however peacefully--by foreigners, can keep a few of its secrets to itself. Two main factors seem to determine the values Belgians hold and the ways they approach life: the effects of the linguistic divide, and the country's long history of exposure to other cultures through trade, war, and occupation--its experience of being simultaneously very small and very strategically placed.Culture Smart! Belgium will help you navigate these swirling waters. It is for anyone who wants to understand Belgian society and encounter it with sensitivity and poise. We trace the land's turbulent history and look at how the past has shaped the collective and personal values of today's Belgians. We look at the Belgian people at work, at play, and at home, and offer tips to help you get along with the people you will meet, on both sides of the divide, and navigate the new situations that you are likely to encounter.Have a richer and more meaningful experience abroad through a better understanding of the local culture. Chapters on history, values, attitudes, and traditions will help you to better understand your hosts, while tips on etiquette and communicating will help you to navigate unfamiliar situations and avoid faux pas.

Secret Vienna
A magnificent private palace that can be visited by reservation, a crocodile mummy in a private library, a chocolate house, an alchemical ceiling in Sch繹nbrunn, one of the most beautiful pharmacies in the world, an exceptional Art Nouveau church, the tomb of a fish that would have converted to Judaism, a jazz museum in public toilets, a public dump that can be visited like a museum, the oldest organ in Vienna hidden behind a painting, an empress dressed as a nun, the mystery of the symbol 05, a masculine sex discreetly sculpted on the cathedral of Vienna, a surprising private museum of billiards, an incredible bouquet where each flower actually consists of several butterfly wings, a source of water that allows to see the lotto figures for a minute, an extraordinary underground annex of the Mauthausen camp where the world's first jet was built, a "love hotel" historic of great charm ... An indispensable travel guide for those who thought of knowing Vienna or for those who wish to discover the other face of the city.
Terra Cognita
Twenty-seven years in the making, Terra Cognita chronicles the author's continual travels--and problematic (if still, at times, ecstatic) encounters--in the "bel paese." Across nine richly evocative essays, Chad Davidson investigates the seemingly never-ending fascination that travelers have with Italy. As much a meditation on what home and away mean as it is a travel memoir, Terra Cognita finds literary predecessors such as Dante and Italo Calvino crowding in alongside more accustomed sights from travel shows, Hollywood films, and tourist guides. Though each essay departs from a particular location in Italy and remains rooted in the author's own history there, the book ultimately becomes less about those places and more about the placelessness any such journey can engender, how--even after flying across an ocean and landing in a foreign country--we are still hopelessly and fully ourselves.
Ramblings and Roundabouts
Brenda Revard had taken many trips across the United States with her husband, Brian, over the course of their thirty-five-year marriage. As retirement approached, they decided it was time to explore the world beyond their own borders. They sold their house, parted with most of their belongings, and bought a motorhome ... in Amsterdam. But Brenda quickly discovered that they had more to learn than European visa rules and driving laws. International travel required them to adapt to different cultures, navigate unfamiliar terrains, and find basic staples on the fly -- a challenge for someone who liked to plan everything out ahead of time. Solving these problems not only brought a sense of accomplishment, but also led to delightful surprises as they encountered new people and places.Ramblings & Roundabouts: An American Couple's Travels in Europe -- Mostly by Motorhome chronicles Brenda's journeys outside her homeland and her comfort zone. Containing a myriad of travel tips, her memoir will inspire anyone who's dreamed of embarking on a grand adventure.
Vitali’s Ireland
A unique perspective on 21st century Irish cultural identity, delivered in a style rich with his typical sardonic wit. Ukrainian-born Vitali Vitaliev, an award-winning travel writer and journalist, uses his outsider's perspective to recount his Irish adventures. A renowned cultural observer, he muses on the nation's quirks and stereotypes, whilst his reference to mid-19th century guide books provides an insightful historical comparison. The result is an affectionate if slightly perplexed portrait of a nation in transition.Vitali's time in Ireland coincided with the period of the now dead and buried 'Celtic Tiger' yet the author saw no sign of it. At times, he recounts, "I was ready to believe that its very existence was a myth, a creation of the lazy journalists' and inept economists' imagination." Daily life in the Republic of Ireland, he observed, was more reminiscent of that in a third world country, rather than of a modern industrial and financial 'mini-giant' - as it was at that time being described by the world media. "During my travels, I developed a chronic dislike for the elusive and intrusive Tiger. It simply did not fit with Ireland's pristine landscape and even less so - with the nation's poetic soul."Ukrainian-born Vitali Vitaliev, an award-winning travel writer and journalist, uses his outsider's perspective to recount his Irish adventures. A renowned cultural observer, he muses on the nation's quirks and stereotypes, whilst his reference to mid-19th century guide books provides an insightful historical comparison. The result is an affectionate if slightly perplexed portrait of a nation in transition.Reviews of Vitali's Ireland: "This is a book that will perplex and infuriate some but appear quite humorous to others . . . Eccentric guide to a land of contradictions . . . A rather eclectic mixture of farce, travel guide and personal observation . . . This book should be required reading for those executives who run our tourist authorities."Colin Lenihan, Minister for Integration, in The Irish Times"Slightly eccentric and highly enjoyable . . . Slightly cranky, sometimes bewildered, often meandering back across his life and generally highly entertaining, Vitali's Ireland is very much an outsider's look into our country. If he doesn't know what to make of us, it is maybe because he is viewing us at a junction where we don't know what to make of ourselves."Dermot Bolger, in Sunday Business"Vitali is big hearted, broad minded and smart as a whip . . . A Ukranian-born Russian exile whose worldwide perambulations have produced a string of fine, intelligent works of idiosyncratic reportage, this somewhat unusual visitor offers a valuable gift to us Irish readers: The outside perspective . . . Vitaliev wanders the 32 counties like some kind of gormless, amiable pilgrim, half-Mr Bean, half-Socrates. . . . (His) observations on the folly of the Northern conflict are heartbreaking in their simplicity and world-weary resignation . . . I could fill this paper with quotable extracts"Hugh Tynan, in the Irish Examiner Weekend
