Geometry is so much more than just naming shapes! It includes understanding 3D, reflection, polygons, and more. What better way to explore this curriculum topic than alongside a cute blue monster? Readers meet Mo who is also just starting to learn geometry. In each chapter, Mo learns about a new concept, and each chapter builds upon the knowledge presented earlier in the book. Diagrams and visual aids help readers--and Mo--through pyramids, patterns, and prisms, as they practice what they've learned in problems. A concluding answer key allows readers to check their work.
Division
Can a cute blue monster help kids learn about division? It sure can--and make the concept a lot more fun! Mo the monster is just beginning to learn about division and throughout the book learns the basics of this crucial math curriculum topic, beginning simply with dividing in two. Each chapter builds upon the last, concluding with handling remainders, arrays, and division patterns. A great supplement to classroom learning, this book invites readers to practice each skill as it's presented and shows the concepts visually to aid comprehension.

The Mending of Broken Bones
A joyful and intimate celebration of the beauty and creativity of algebra from one of the foremost math educators of our time. For many of us, algebra conjures up memories of dull classes spent wondering when we'd ever have to solve a system of equations or factor a polynomial. Indeed, most of the time, if we need to plan a budget or figure out how early to leave the house for work, common sense or a quick, seat-of-the-pants approximation is good enough. But as mathematician Paul Lockhart argues in The Mending of Broken Bones, once we stop thinking of algebra in terms of its practical applications, we can appreciate it for the beautiful and gratifying subject that it is. In his hands, algebra is the delicate craft of untangling numerical puzzles to reveal the hidden patterns and often surprising behaviors of the numbers themselves. As Lockhart traverses numerical systems, slips into and out of higher-dimensional space, and delights in the intimate connections between algebra and geometry, we come to see the discipline from his viewpoint: not as the mundane exercises of our school years, but instead as an art form whose beauty lies in its elegant simplicity. Written in Lockhart's charming and conversational prose, The Mending of Broken Bones is an impassioned and deeply personal celebration of algebra that helps us experience the profound joys of mathematical discovery.

The First Million Digits of Pi
Pi, the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter, has been know to exist for thousands of years. Even before the common era, ancient mathematicians had found approximations for pi that were accurate to two digits (3.1). The Babylonians used 25/8 as an approximation of pi. The ancient Egyptians used 16/9 squared for pi. The next to improve the approximations for pi were Chinese mathematicians. The Chinese approximation was correct to seven digits (3.141592). In Greece, Archimedes used a polygon drawn outside a circle, and a polygon drawn inside a circle, and extended pi to three digits (3.14). Finally, when infinite series were developed, one could calculate pi with pen and paper to as many digits as one had time for. It was not until computers came along that it was practical to calculate pi to a million digits. Here, in this book, are the results.
