Ranbir
Ranbir told me about a little game once. He asked me how thick would a block of paper be if you could fold one sheet 50 times. I thought a bit and finally made a "C" with my hand. "I'n'know, this thick?" He laughed and called me a dummy. Try it! he said, but be sure you have a big sheet of paper. Really big. My name is Buck O'Doul. I'm only seven years old. I decided to take up this challenge and fold the state of Nebraska 50 times and see what I came up with.Little did I know what I was getting into -- I was being sucked into the world of higher mathematics, squares and square roots, hooky things, squishy scales and logarithms, and all pretty much just by counting on my fingers!

The First Million Digits of e
The number e, the base of the natural logarithm, has been know to exist for many years. The constant e was discovered by the Swiss mathematician Jacob Bernoulli while studying compound interest. It is named e to honor Leonard Euler. The first references to the constant were published in 1618 in the table of an appendix of a work on logarithms by John Napier. John Napier did not actually define the constant, but he used it. The discovery of the constant itself is credited to Jacob Bernoulli in 1683, who attempted to find the value of the following expression (which is equal to e): limit as n approaches infinity of (1+1/n)^n.

Speed Math and Math Magic for Kids - Easy Times Tables, Fun Math Tricks, and Mental Cheat Sheets
This book is for kids who have just started learning multiplication. When memorizing times tables looms ahead, the fear of the math monster creeps in and spoils what should be a lot of fun at school. I bribed my 7-year-old son with some TV time and chocolates to memorize the x3 table, but this only confirmed his belief that math is a scary tsunami of ever growing numbers and formulas that he would rather never encounter. As a kid I struggled with math too. My Dad is a mathematician. He helped to propel me through high school math, but the fear of the math monster chased me constantly. . How to defeat that fear? You have to confront it from the very start, from the times tables and even before, to help our kids feel more in control, to show them that the math monster can purr and lick their hand. So I roped in my Dad, and together we looked at speed math methods and learning shortcuts, and collected a bunch of tricks that - minimize memorization and - maximize the sense of victory over the math monster ...when learning times tables, 2-digit multiplication, fractions, decimals, as well as addition and subtraction of larger numbers. This book covers math curricula found in the 2nd and 3rd grades - from times tables through decimals. In addition to speed math tricks, the book teaches a few classic math magic tricks, like 'reading your mind' to discover the secret number you came up with, or making a (seemingly) complex calculation in an instant. The book is colorful, with funny illustrations and captions to help retain every last drop of the precious kid attention, and to escape that scary math book look - the arctic white pages with mounting numbers - that so terrified me as a kid. It's a 'fun math' book designed to arm our kids with the magic of confidence and a bunch of speed math tricks on their early math journey.
All Math Words Dictionary
All Math Words Dictionary is designed for students of pre-algebra, algebra, geometry, intermediate algebra, pre-calculus and calculus in middle school and high school. It is designed using the four 'C's of math writing: Concise: Definitions are compact, yet understandable.Complete: All words and phrases of interest to targeted students are included, plus a few just beyond the scope of the target classes.Correct: The definitions have been thoroughly reviewed for mathematical and literary correctness.Comprehensible: The definitions are written to be understood by targeted students. Abundant illustrations aid in understanding. One of the difficulties many students experience in learning math skills has to do with the fact that an entire language, both spoken and written, has grown up around math. Students that acquire that language are successful in math studies. Students that do not acquire that language have serious problems with mathematics. This dictionary is designed to aid in the acquisition of the language of math. This dictionary has: over 3600 entries, more than 200 notations defined, in excess of 1300 illustrations, IPA pronunciation guide, greater than 1400 formulas, equations, examples, identities and expressions. While teaching high school math, the author, David E. McAdams, noted that some students did not understand even simple math statements, such as "This equation is determinate." Those students who had not acquired a basic math vocabulary were left behind, becoming frustrated and mentally dropping out of class. This dictionary was carefully crafted. The result of this extensive effort is All Math Words Dictionary, an important tool for math teachers and students. This book is available in four different editions: Color Classroom edition - typeset in 14-point Times New Roman font and with larger color illustrations. Best for any use, as the use of color guides the student through the illustrations. Available in paperback and hardback.Home edition - typeset in 10-point Times New Roman for home use. Available in color and black and white, both paperback.Large Print edition - typeset in 16 point Tiresias LP font for visually challenged students. Includes larger black and white illustrations. Available in paperback and hardback.Dyslexic edition - typeset in Open Dyslexic and Eulexia fonts with black and white illustrations. Available in paperback and hardback. If budget allows, Mr. McAdams highly recommends either the Color Classroom edition, or the Color Home edition. These editions show the part of the diagram being defined in red, allowing the student to more quickly understand the words being defined.

Step By Step to Solve Word Problems
What does your child want to be when they grow up? A doctor? Engineer? A Pilot? Business Owner? Whatever their dreams are, they will need to solve lots of word problems on their journey to a career. The skills that they develop while solving those problems will be valuable in whatever career they choose. This book is a "two for the price of one" educational tool! Your student will develop their reading skills (analysis and comprehension) as well as the math skills needed to solve real-life problems. Many students have the mathematical skills needed to solve equations using basic arithmetic operations. The challenges that this book addresses are the strategies and skills needed to read, understand, and analyze a word problem and to then formulate a mathematical equation that accurately represents the problem. The word problems in this book are based on realistic situations in business, marketing, transportation, and healthcare to make them relevant to the student. This book is designed to be used with guidance from a parent or tutor as the student works from simpler arithmetic problems to more complex problems involving basic algebra and geometry for grades 1-10. There are four important strategies used to analyze and solve word problems: 1. Read carefully and slowly to understand the question. 2. Recognize and underline the key words and important numbers. 3. Recognize and disregard information that is not pertinent to solving the problem. 4. Identify the math operations needed to solve the problem. Section 2 of the book includes a step-by-step solution to each problem that students should use to check their strategies and their results. Section 3 lists the correct answers to each problem for quick reference.
