William Riley (1798‒1873) of Connecticut and Montgomery County, Pennsylvania
William Riley's story necessarily starts in the middle, since the first record about him was in 1830 which said he was married with two children. Born in Connecticut in 1798, William's town of origin and parents are not known. He was a poor shoemaker, belonged to a Dunkard church, and lived in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, where he died in 1873. His five children moved to nearby Philadelphia after the Civil War where they were employed as manual laborers. Several children later moved to Atlantic City, New Jersey, where they worked in jobs typical of a coastal resort. William Riley's later descendants had a modest degree of wealth and material comfort since, in the early twentieth century, blue-collar jobs afforded solidly middle-class incomes and lifestyles. This book describes the lives of ordinary, working-class men and women who left behind no letters or diaries.Covered are four generations of William's descendants spanning over one hundred and fifty years. The text is thoroughly referenced with a wide variety of sources, including dates and places of birth, marriage, death, and burial. Other information sources are occupations, military service, causes of death, and places lived. Maps, timelines, photographs, and an index to full names, places, and subjects add to the value of this book. Nubian Proverbs (Fadijja/Mahas)
In the 1995/96 academic year, twenty-five Egyptian Nubian students of the Faculty of Social Work in Aswan were recruited by Dr. Muddathir Salim to complete a brief Nubian ethnological survey, largely restricted to the area of New Nubia, over a period of several months. They documented Egyptian Nubian culture and heritage, among them proverbs, tales, lullabies, marriage customs, and moulid and mourning songs, as well as models of Nubian clothes, jewelry, and houses. This research has culminated in Maher Habbob's Nubian Proverbs, which presents the fruits of decades of collecting proverbs from his native Nubian region in Fadijja (Nobiin). The five hundred proverbs gathered in this volume give a vivid picture of the Nubian imagination and represent a priceless archive of cultural heritage threatened by ongoing assimilation and cultural genocide. The proverbs are presented in Nubian script, accompanied by a transliteration in Roman script, an a literal translation and paraphrase in English. Maher Habbob is a Fadicca (Nubian) scholar working in Egypt on Nubian heritage, folklore, and language. He is author of Mo'jam al-amthal el-noubeya [A Dictionary of Nubian Proverbs] (2014) and collaborated on the research for Thayer Scudder's Aswan High Dam Resettlement of Egyptian Nubians (Springer, 2016). His research has appeared in Akhbar al-adab, Al-Thaqafa al-Gadida, Amkenah Magazine, and Dotawo. He lives in Aswan, where he works as a tour guide.

Genealogical Data, The Salem Tenth in West New Jersey

It was founded by a Quaker named John Fenwick in 1665. This was the first English settlement established in west portion of the state of New Jersey following the English defeat of the Dutch in 1664. It had become the first Quaker colony in North America, predating any settlements in Philadelphia. In 1665, John Fenwick was involved in a financial dispute when acquiring these lands from Lord Berkeley. Lord Berkeley had also sold lands to Edward Billinge in New Jersey. The final outcome of the dispute was that for financial considerations Fenwick was granted a tenth of West Jersey.

Burright Family History covers the story of the Burrights (then Barheits) from their time in Recife, Brazil, during the mid-1650s to New Netherland and beyond. The reader will follow Cornelius Burright from New York to the Old Northwest and each of his children and their descendants as they took part in the settlement of the west. Until their publication by S.H.P., Inc., these Obituaries records from the EARLIEST Tennessee newspapers had been available ONLY at the Tennessee State Library and Archives in Nashville in their card files. These Obituary notices cover the ENTIRE state of Tennessee for the most part, beginning with the earliest ones in 1794 in the Knoxville Gazette. These approximately 7,000 death notices contain date and place of death, sometimes the cause of death, survivors, age at time of death, etc. A glance at these notices shows for instance: one person dying in 1807 aged 60; another dying in 1815 aged 88; another in 1832 aged 95. Thus, the reader can readily see that these Obituaries will often carry a person back well into the early 1700's. It was created from Ste. Genevieve District in 1821. Many of these early settlers came from the East from such states as: Pennsylvania, Kentucky, and North Carolina. Since these families and other arrived here before the Louisiana Purchase, they received large influx of settlers headed West. It is surrounded by the counties of: Bollinger, Cape Girardeau, Madison, Ste. Genevieve and St. Francois. The deeds within this book start with the creation of the county in 1821 but many have earlier dates because they were not officially recorded until after it was carved off of Ste, Genevieve.
