Deep Family
Deep Family chronicles several generations of the famous Read, Baldwin, and Craik families of Montgomery, Alabama. Dubbed the "deep family" by a black servant--who himself became part of the family, long before blacks and whites had equal rights--the dynamic personalities in this volume stretch from the American Revolution to World War II and beyond. Many Montgomerians will still remember the legendary Hazel Hedge, the gorgeous family estate and site of famous Montgomery parties, or will have heard tales of this family that included revolutionaries, Confederates, communists, diplomats, journalists, artists, grande dames, and eccentrics. Readers not from Montgomery will wish that they were. Brimming with colorful cameos--from George Washington to William Lowndes Yancey to Greta Garbo to Rosa Parks--Deep Family combines history, gossip, name-dropping, and personal lore in a scandalous, ripping good read.
Genealogy Tips & Quips
From USA Today Bestselling Author Eliza Watson! In 2007, a twelve-day trip to Ireland-my ancestors' homeland-turned out to be the most significant turning point in my life. I never dreamed when I embarked on my adventure it would lead to me becoming a genealogist, meeting dozens of Irish rellies, writing two fiction book series set in Ireland, and buying a renovated 1887 schoolhouse in my Coffey ancestors' townland.Since that trip, I've researched hundreds of Irish and Scottish lines, including my maternal and paternal ones. I've also done extensive research in Canada, England, and the US. Besides conducting online research, I have visited numerous historical archives, traipsed through countless cemeteries (many now situated in sheep-filled fields), and located several family homesteads. In 2018, I began writing a genealogy column for my monthly author newsletter about my personal research experiences. Because I was writing articles faster than I was publishing newsletters, I decided to compile them into a book. Genealogy Tips and Quips includes: -twenty-five newsletter articles-twenty-five brand-new articles-a case study about how a paternal DNA test revealed my family's royal lineage and my quest to uncover family secrets-an extensive case study on tracing my most difficult family line back to the 1700s in IrelandBe prepared for a lot of unexpected twists and turns as I share my mistakes, lessons learned, and tips for getting to the roots of your family tree!

Associated Reformed Presbyterian Death And Marriage Notices Volume II
This volume opens with four pages of undated clippings transcribed from the scrapbook of Rev. S. A. Agnew. The remainder of this volume is compiled from notices which appeared in the Associate Reformed Presbyterian from the beginning of its publication in 1867 through the end of 1888. Only a few issues have survived for the period between 1878 and 1884. These notices include people who lived in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, Arkansas, Alabama, Mississippi, Illinois, Missouri, and Texas. Death notices are important for this period, not only because of the details of the lives of the individuals, including place of birth and former residences, but because during the difficult years of the reconstruction after the Civil War, many people could not afford tombstones and erected wooden markers that have not survived. Marriage notices are especially important for South Carolina since marriage licenses were not required in South Carolina until July 1, 1911.Death notices generally include the name of the deceased, date of death, location at death, name(s) of parent(s), and name of spouse; many death notices also include additional information such as cause of death and/or biographical tidbits. Marriage notices generally include the date of marriage, the name of the official, the names of the bride and groom, town of residence; marriage notices may also include additional information such as the names of the bride's parents. A full-name index adds to the value of this work.(1998), 2022, 6x9, paper, index, 258 pp.

Dr. Andrew Turnbull And The New Smyrna Colony Of Florida
"Every old inhabitant of Florida knows of Andrew Turnbull.... Reminders of Turnbull are plentiful throughout the State. On the palm covered banks of the North Indian River stands New Smyrna itself, named for Smyrna, Asia Minor, the birthplace of Turnbull's wife." Spain yielded East and West Florida to England in exchange for Havana in 1763, but few Englishmen could be enticed to settle in this warm wilderness. Dr. Andrew Turnbull was an exceptional forty-eight-year-old London physician, who undertook this pioneer adventure with his Greek-born wife and family. Dr. Turnbull selected a site south of present-day Ormond and Daytona Beaches, anticipating a future settlement peopled by Greek settlers. To this end, Dr. Turnbull sailed to Greece, Italy, and Minorca, recruiting settlers for New Smyrna, and arrived in St. Augustine, Florida in November of 1767. The author opens with a brief look at the early colonization of Florida, relating Dr. Turnbull's pioneer efforts, and the founding of New Smyrna. Subjects covered include: the uprising of 1768; English financial support; hardships and illness; irrigation; governors: Grant, Moultrie and Tonyn; Moultrie, Turnbull and Drayton's secret flight to England to avoid seizure; the Revolution; cruelty and murder, the fall of New Smyrna, and the ultimate division of New Smyrna property. This work is enhanced with brief excerpts from letters, illustrations, a bibliography and a full-name plus subject index.(1919, ?), 2016, 51/2x81/2, paper, 232 pp

Smiles and Kind Thoughts
This book is written to reflect the lives and personalities of real people-not just the genealogical statistics of born on, married on dates, etc. They all confronted and conquered a variety of life's challenges in Germany and in their newly adopted home in America. This time-consuming effort by the author also provides an excellent example of what others can do to discover and record their family's history for future generations. As a nation of immigrants, we should not let their contributions be forgotten. Accordingly, A Smile and A Kind Thought would be appreciated.

The Life and Times of Tell and Minnie Maynard and the Fifteen Children
The title of the book sums it up fairly well with a couple of exceptions. "The Life and Times of Tell and Minnie Maynard and "the Fifteen Children" is several stories, using testimonials, written letters, and history to weave a wonderful narrative about some of the "last pioneers" on Brushy Creek of Pike Conty, Ky. See how they spent their days amidst the rolling hills of the countryside. There was a two-story house. There was a farm of 380 acres. A little church stood beside their home. A family cemetery began to grow from family members who left us too soon. This is the true story of a large family. This is my heritage. I felt compelled to tell their stories as they struggled to survive in this rugged territory. Wow - what a story it is! Meet the Maynards!

By: Catherine L. Knorr, Pub. 1954, reprinted 2022, 120 pages, Index, soft cover, ISBN #0-89308-253-8.Culpeper County was created from the northern part of Orange County in 1749. Culpeper itself gave birth to two new counties: 1793 to Madison and 1833 to Rappahannock. Before the Revolutionary War, the ministers were compelled by law to keep a record of the lists of baptisms and marriages but after the Revolution, every marriage had to be reported to the Clerk of Court. These are called Ministers' Returns. Since the Culpeper marriage bonds do not exist, the ministers' returns are all we have. Then in 1802, a blow fell. All the parish registers were seized as property of the State and many were lost in the court houses. Culpeper County held its first court in 1749 but due to its first court minute book being lost, these marriages are all we have from this early period.

Generations
Imagine what the world was like for our ancestors hundreds of years ago. Instead of going to the corner grocery store, they had to grow or hunt their own food. There were no clothing stores and no roads or bridges. The nearest neighbor was often miles away and the only way to get anywhere was by walking. In this family history, the author draws on more than five years of research. While she originally planned to only cover the Weaver, Shrock, and Miller lines, she learned that she also had forgotten ancestors with the last name of Sommers, Beachy, Hochstetler, and many more. Most of the author's ancestors left Switzerland and parts of Germany and France to find religious freedom. While some died at sea while trying to cross the Atlantic Ocean, others went on to settle in the colonies and accomplish remarkable things. Join the author as she examines a forgotten way of life while celebrating her family history and the contributions of her ancestors.
