Statistical Computing Using C&R
The world of programming is constantly evolving, yet the foundational languages remain timeless. This book, C & R, is designed to introduce students to the powerful combination of two essential programming languages: C and R. The language C has stood the test of time as the backbone of system programming and serves as the starting point for millions of programmers around the world. Its structured approach, efficiency, and simplicity make it a perfect language to build a solid foundation in logic and programming skills. On the other hand, R is an emerging star in the field of statistical computing and data science. With the increasing demand for data-driven decision making, the knowledge of R is essential for modern learners who want to analyze, visualize, and draw insights from complex datasets. This book bridges the gap between system programming and data analytics by carefully blending C programming fundamentals with practical R programming applications. Starting from the very basics, the book progresses systematically through decision making, looping structures, user-defined functions, and data handling concepts in both C and R languages.
The Usage of Idioms in the Business World
Idioms are figurative expressions that convey meanings different from the literal interpretation of their individual words - such as "shoot yourself in the foot" or "let the cat out of the bag." They are deeply embedded in language and culture, acting as vivid communicative shortcuts that express complex ideas, emotions, or social norms. This workbook studies the origins of idioms, their cultural context, and linguistic application. However, there are thousands of idioms, and they vary from country to country. Therefore, this work was primarily designed to assist business students who use English as a second language (ESL) and specifically focuses on those idioms that are used in the business world. Idioms are not slang, and the difference between the two is comprehensively explained. The format of this workbook and reference guide consists of presenting the most common business idioms in alphabetical order, providing a definition for each, and then using the idiom in a sentence to create a contextual illustration.
Minority Languages and Cultures in Audiovisual Translation
This collection explores the range of approaches and frameworks used in the study of minority languages and cultures in audiovisual translation (AVT), encouraging interdisciplinary conversations toward fostering linguistic diversity on screen. The volume is organized around five parts, looking at examples from across the Americas, Europe, the Middle East, and China as well as issues around sign languages in AVT. Chapters explore innovative strategies in subtitling, dubbing, and fansubbing to address non-standard varieties, ethnolinguistic diversities, and multilingualism, among other key themes, across different forms of media. The volume also looks ahead to how the study and practice of AVT might be re-envisioned in relation to minority languages, societies, and cultures in the future. This book will be of interest to scholars in translation studies, audiovisual translation, media accessibility, and media studies.

"Said Without Saying"
"Said Without Saying: Indirect Speech Acts in Indian Fiction" is an insightful exploration into the subtle power of language and meaning in literature, focusing on two profound Indian novels - Fasting, Feasting by Anita Desai and A Matter of Time by Shashi Deshpande. This book delves into the intricate world of indirect speech acts to uncover how what is left unsaid often reveals more than what is explicitly stated. It offers a rich, interdisciplinary dialogue between linguistics, pragmatics, and literary studies. At its core, this work is a study in pragmatics, the branch of linguistics concerned with how context influences the interpretation of meaning. Within this framework, indirect speech acts - utterances where the speaker's intended meaning differs from the literal expression - serve as powerful tools of character development, conflict, irony, and social commentary. When characters say one thing and mean another, they mirror the complexities of real human communication, especially in cultures where restraint, indirectness, and layered discourse are embedded in social interaction.
A Psycholinguistic Perspective on the Impact of Attention Deficit
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by persistent attention deficit, impulsivity, and hyperactivity, which tends to affect academic performance and language development. This study investigates the impact of ADHD on the academic and communicative abilities of early primary school children. It also takes into consideration how teachers recognize and manage such problems in real classroom situations. The study uses a multi-method approach, including unplanned observations of six children at the psychiatry, structured classroom observations of 17 children, semi-structured interviews with four speech therapists, and 35 questionnaire responses from psychologists and psychiatrists. Additionally, 196 primary school teachers completed a questionnaire. The study also includes a comparison of four handwriting samples of children with ADHD and their peers to look for possible psycholinguistic and motor differences. The results show that ADHD significantly affects attention, working memory, and expressive language, which disrupts children's ability to follow instructions, memorize, and communicate efficiently.
Socio-economic, Political, and Cultural Status of Morrison's Women
Toni Morrison's novels offer a nuanced exploration of the complexities of Black womanhood, illuminating the intersections of race, gender, and identity. Morrison challenges societal norms, revealing the multifaceted experiences of her characters and systemic forces that shape female lives. Her work serves as a vital contribution to feminist discourse, urging readers to confront legacies of oppression while envisioning possibilities for empowerment. Despite the significant contributions of her work to feminist literary criticism, there remains a need for further exploration of the intersections of race, gender, and class. As her literature continues to resonate with readers, the exploration of themes remains essential for understanding the ongoing struggles and triumphs of Black women in America and beyond. This book ultimately seeks to contribute to the broader conversation about the complexities of identity, community, and resistance in the face of systemic injustice, positioning Morrison's work as a crucial touchstone for contemporary feminist thought.

Grounded in the principles of English for Specific Purposes (ESP), it focuses particularly on English for Science and Technology (EST), analyzing the unique communicative demands placed on engineering students and professionals. The book also discusses the growing need for communication skills in global and Indian industry contexts, where English often serves as the primary working language.Through authentic examples and analysis, the book serves as a guide for educators, trainers, and students alike, providing tools to transform anxiety into effective expression.

Critical Discourse Analysis and Vladimir Propp's Falktale
Vladimir Propp's "Morphology of the Folktale" is a significant contribution to understanding plot structure. Translation Solutions for Legal Documents
This textbook covers legal translation themes by types of legal documents. The three parts of the book are devoted to the translation of legislative documents, contracts, and court documentation. This textbook uses a new approach to train students of legal translation, which can be used to teach translation from English to any other language. This approach combines legal and linguistic perspectives of the study of legal documents, and includes machine translation and artificial intelligence (AI) tools and corpus methods. Examples of translation from English to Italian, German, Ukrainian and Polish with analysis will help students compare different translations and suggest their own translation of the same examples into their target language (TL). The book also provides exercises to develop translation skills within the legal domain, focusing on developing students' research skills, their ability to substantiate the choice of target language terminology, identify translators' false friends, cope with the issues of syntax and morphology, and apply various translation strategies and techniques. The exercises also include a comparative analysis of post-editing of machine translation and AI-generated translations with their own translations.
