The Evolution of Spanish Past Forms
The Evolution of Spanish Past Forms examines how Spanish past forms have changed diachronically. With examples from Medieval Spanish, Golden Age Spanish, and Modern Spanish literary works, this book demonstrates how language is dynamic and susceptible to change. The past forms considered here include the preterit, the imperfect, the imperfect progressive with estar (temporal to be), the present perfect, the imperfect progressive with other auxiliary verbs, the preterit progressive with estar, and the preterit progressive with other auxiliary verbs. This book will be of interest to scholars and graduate students investigating tense and aspect phenomena in Spanish and other languages, grammaticalization processes, and language variation and change.

Filmspanism
Filmspanism explores the geopolitics of knowledge involved in academic approaches to Spanish cinema. This companion rethinks the role of disciplinarity, institutionality, and nationality in the study of film by taking into account a rather specific set of contentious issues, intellectual traditions, discursive servitudes, and invested scholarship. To that end, the book explores the topics of art cinema, popular culture, film genre, and transnationalism, always with Spanish cinema as its concrete object of study. An insightful contribution to the study of Spanish cinema, this discussion will be of interest to researchers and graduate students in Hispanic Studies and Film Studies.

Panamanian Street Spanish
PANAMANIAN SLANG DICTIONARY - Plus Words and PhrasesLearn Panamanian Spanish Slang One Word At A TimeWhether traveling to el Republica de Panama as a tourist, student, or with the intention of moving there as an expatriate, this guide will serve you well. You probably already know the Spanish spoken by Panamanians is a unique idiom, bejeweled with words and phrases never taught in your high school Spanish class. Intended for English speakers, this book shares common slang words and phrases to help you communicate in everyday situations like ordering dinner in a restaurant, shopping at the mercado for fresh produce, flirting in a club, getting street directions, or hiring a taxi. Before you go, consider taking the time to learn a few Panamanian Spanish slang words and phrases so you can speak street Spanish like a local. This guide contains a wealth of words and expressions that you can look up when you hear or read them to know what is going on around you. Even better, weeks before traveling, spend a night curled up with the book gaining familiarity with the wealth of wisdom it contains. That way, when you hear a vaguely familiar word on the street, you will know which page to consult to refresh your memory. Even if you don't have the confidence to utter a word in Panamanian Spanish, you'll know what was said. Before you go, learn Panamanian-Spanish words and phrases so you can speak street Spanish like a local on the streets (las calles), in the shops (las tiendas), on the beaches (las playas), in the clubs (discotecas), and at the grocery store (el supermercado), knowing at least some street talk will pay big dividends. Instead of being seen as some soul-less gringo tourist, the locals will hold you in higher esteem. As a result, you may make new friends, and as a bonus perhaps get a better hotel room or lower prices while shopping for a mola.Unlike most foreign language books, with their sterile lists of words (yawn), this one includes cultural references (food, dance, sex) that make the words come alive, more relevant to your life and experience, and therefore, more easily remembered. More than a dictionary replete with a compilation of words and phrases, this book shines a light on the rich tapestry of Panamanian culture.Top 20 Panamanian Slang Words/PhrasesAhuevao - Stupid. Acting the fool.Babylon - The policeBucu - Lots (Derived from the French beacoup)Cabrear - To be angry. Then when the plane lands at Tocumen airport, struggle to understand the cabbie hired to drive to your hotel. Speak in halting phrases when ordering supper. Struggle to understand the nuances of what's going on around you. Or you could rather wisely invest in your future by buying this book.

A Primer of Pastoral Spanish
A Primer of Pastoral Spanish is designed to provide clergy, religious and laity alike with the tools to be pastoral among Spanish-speaking people. This primer is modeled after Madrigal's Magic Key to Spanish (1953), whose author, Margarita Madrigal, bases her methodology on creating with the language instead of memorizing it. Previous knowledge of Spanish is not necessary, although, as you will discover, you already know thousands of words in Spanish. The vocabulary you know in English is the foundation on which you can build your knowledge of Spanish vocabulary. There are thousands of English words that become Spanish words if you can recognize the slight change that takes place from one language to the other. For example, you will learn how to conjugate a verb in Spanish to the first-person singular of the past tense by dropping a letter from its translation in English and adding an accent. There are 40 units in this primer. If you were to study each unit 30 minutes a day throughout Lent, for example, think about how far you could progress. Each unit consists of four sections: Vocabulary, Prayer or Culture, Cornerstones, and Vocabulary Review. There are four Check Your Progress units. These present more Challenges based on the grammar, vocabulary, and culture you learned in the previous units. The answers to the Challenges are at the end of these units.

La vida es complicada
Leonardo is a Venezuelan engineer who lives and works for a U.S. petroleum company in Florida. He is used to solving problems in his work life. In fact, he is really good at it. He is so good that the company is going to honor him at a special event. But Leonardo's problem-solving skills are put to the test when he is forced to deal with family issues, both with his son in Florida, and back home in Venezuela where his daughter still lives with her family. In Venezuela Gustavo was a doctor and a prominent member of the community. He and his wife were living a good life with their two boys - at least until the accident. Unable to deal with the loss of his wife and younger son, Gustavo is forced to leave Venezuela behind and start anew with his older son at his parents' home in Florida. Sad and angry with his new reality in the United States he tries to numb his pain and in doing so, alienates his parents and his son, Samuel. Samuel had just started high school a couple of years ago when his mom and brother died in an accident in Venezuela. Like his father he is still sad and angry, but Samuel always has his music. Rock music. He loves his guitar and how playing it makes him feel: free. As if losing half of his family wasn't enough of a burden, Samuel also has to contend with the typical teen issues - especially when it comes to relationships. And these relationships, while accepted by both of his grandparents, are the cause of some huge problems between Samuel and his father. How will the men of the Medina family navigate it all?Teachers: This book is intended for novice readers with simple and accessible vocabulary and grammatical structures (mainly present tense). You, however, know your students best!
癒V獺monos al cine!
Designed to engage students and inspire lively conversational practice, 癒V獺monos al cine! Short Movies for Spanish Conversation provides language learners with a collection of short films in Spanish, coupled with vocabulary and grammar activities, to support language acquisition and improve their speaking ability. The book and movies help students learn new vocabulary, review grammar, and develop an understanding of Hispanic culture, history, and social habits. The text and movies cover a variety of unique and interesting topics, including the influence of technology on personal relationships, romantic and familial relationships, Hispanic culture and history, personal identity and social pressure, immigration, and more. For each topical area, students are challenged to read new vocabulary, answer preliminary questions, and make predictions about the movie they are going to watch. Links and QR codes within the text-which have been updated or replaced for the revised first edition-provide students with easy access to the individual films. After watching a film, students read related articles, answer questions, and review a specific grammatical aspect of the language used in the movie. Finally, they are prompted to create dialogues and perform a scene from the movie or participate in debates about the topics covered in the film or in class. Highly innovative in approach, 癒V獺monos al cine! is a valuable learning resource for intermediate level Spanish courses, especially those with focus on conversational Spanish.

This volume presents 11 innovative, original contributions representative of this "third wave" of studies on DOM in Romance.
