The Brasilia for People project
This publication is about an experiment involving the city, culture and the internet; with the aim of involving society in a specific academic research project to help complete a master's dissertation. The dissertation was completed and the experiment, entitled "Bras穩lia por Pessoas", took a back seat, but was not forgotten. As a project that involves cultural policies, with a social bias, I present its formal bases, methodology and expected results so that it can be disseminated, replicated and developed at other levels. The main contribution is the involvement of citizens in the project's realization processes, which makes it a collaborative social experiment, involving citizens in urban policy proposals that involve culture and society.

Projecting Desire
How middle-class women transformed India's screen and exhibition industries Since the late 90s, multiplexes in India have almost always been located inside malls, rendering it impossible to inhabit one space without also inhabiting the other. Their prevalence coincides with a shift in the spectatorial imagination of India's mass audience-spaces that, for several preceding decades, had been designed for the subaltern male, but are now built for the consuming, globalized middle-class woman. By catering to the mutable desires and anxieties of a rapidly expanding and heterogeneous middle class, the mall-multiplex has radically altered the politics of theatrical space and moviegoing. Projecting Desire tells the story of this moment of historic transition as it played out across media industries, architecture and design, popular cinema, and public culture. Tupur Chatterjee highlights how the multiplex established a new link between media and architecture in the subcontinent, not only rewriting the relation between gender and urban space, but also changing the shapes of Indian cities. Projecting Desire locates the post-globalization transformation of India's screen and exhibition industries in a longer arc of ideas about urban planning and architecture, long mired in caste- and class-based gendered anxieties. It argues that the architectural mediations of India's moviegoing cultures are key to imagining, planning, and policing the contemporary media city. Chatterjee integrates industrial and organizational ethnography, in-depth interviews, participant observation, discourse and textual analysis, and archival work with spatial and urban histories. Focusing on these new meccas of leisure and entertainment, Projecting Desire tracks the understudied nexus between new media architectures, cultures of public leisure, and popular cinema in the Global South.
Urban Aesthetics
The polysemy of the visual arts in the urban image is based on the perception of beauty and its contrasts with technological evolution. In this way, the reason and meaning of artistic beauty in relation to nature is sought based on Kantian thought. Thus, art and technological evolution are analyzed, which make new aesthetic experiences possible at the beginning of this century and expectations for the future, in terms of determination under the concept of innovation. Marx's reflections on freedom are added to Hegelian philosophy. This creativity in cultural praxis, by making art the object of analysis in the socio-cultural theories of Adorno and Benjamin, stimulates the more recent theories of Morin and Habermas. In addition to the preliminary questions in contemporary aesthetics, we have this question: what would designate and condition aesthetics in the face of everyday experiences in metropolitan areas and in the world of the arts? Specifically, what are the reasons for art becoming one of the "unthinkable" practices today? An art, according to Adorno, of the Entkunstung, which would no longer make people dream or would be a vicious dream.

An olfactory approach to da Vinci's work through the smells of his materials and his years spent living in TuscanyThis exhibition catalog is a journey into the perfumes of the Renaissance through the daily life of Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519). The book delves into the scents of this brilliant era: the spices, incense and musks of Constantinople; the perfumed costumes of Venice, Florence, Milan; and the court of Francis I of France. It highlights the plants of the Tuscan master's childhood, such as olive, jasmine, juniper and lemon and orange trees, as well as the smells of the workshop including walnut and linseed oils, rabbit skin glue, resins, waxes and fats. Leonardo himself concocted fragrant recipes, from the most delicate to the most intense, using enfleurage and distillation techniques. Arne Quinze: Are We the Aliens_
Inspired by the 2024 Biennale theme "Foreigners Everywhere," Arne Quinze and Swizz Beatz create an out-of-this-world installation of sculpture and sound On the occasion of the 60th edition of La Biennale di Venezia, Are We the Aliens_ is an immersive exhibition where diverse artistic mediums converge, fusing large-scale site-specific sculptures by the Belgian contemporary artist Arne Quinze (born 1971) saturated within an ethereal acoustic environment by the American music producer Swizz Beatz. In parallel with the theme of the Biennale di Venezia 2024, "Foreigners Everywhere," Are We the Aliens_ is an invitation to contemplate our humanity and the growing alienation of our habitat by proposing unconventional perspectives of self-perception, forging new bonds with our external environment. The book features Quinze's new works including Sonic Levitation, Impact Glass (with pieces handcrafted by renowned glass manufacturer Berengo Studio in Murano), the video piece SIX Testimonials, Ceramorphia and the sculpture Bronze mirroring nature's cycles and the divine harmony.
Pompeii in the Visual and Performing Arts
This volume examines the influence that Pompeii and, to a lesser extent, Herculaneum had on the visual and performing arts in Spain and countries across South America. Covering topics from architecture, painting and decorative arts to theatre, dance and photography, the reader will gain insight into the reception of classical antiquity through the analysis of the close cultural ties between both sides of the Atlantic, in the past and the present. Each contribution has been written by a specialist researcher participating in the project, 'The Reception and Influence of Pompeii and Herculaneum in Spain and Ibero-America', funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation (PGC2018-093509-B-I00 Ministry of Science and Innovation/AEI/ERDF/EU). Pompeii in the Visual and Performing Arts begins by examining the influence of Pompeiian architecture in Spain in paintings that depict scenes inspired by Roman scenes and also buildings modelled on those of Pompeii. Next, the influence of Pompeii crosses the Atlantic to Mexico with a study of the archaeological site's influence on the visual and performing arts. An exploration of the elitist use of the ancient past in architecture is seen in Chilean architecture, which leads onto an investigation of the new art styles that emerged in the 19th century. Later chapters look into the influence of the ancient frescoes and the use of modern plaster casts of statues. The final chapters are devoted to comics and photography, which also make a study of the places in Latin America nicknamed 'Pompeii' in the 20th and 21st centuries.
Ito Shinsui Bijin-ga
Shinsui Ito was born 4 February 1898 in the Fukagawa district of Tokyo and died 8 May 1972.Shinsui Itō was his pseudonym.Shinsui designed mostly bijin-ga and only more occasionally landscape prints, see Shinsui Ito Landscapes by authors. Bijin-ga is "pretty ladies", akin to pin-up art.Bijin-ga (美人画, びじんが, "beautiful person picture") is a generic term for pictures of beautiful women (bijin) in Japanese art, especially in woodblock printing of the ukiyo-e genre.At the age of ten, young Hajime found employment at the Tokyo Printing Company after his father織s business went bankrupt, and here he began to show serious interest and talent in Nihonga, Japanese-style painting.In 1911 he was introduced to Kaburagi Kiyokata, a renowned painter, and became Kiyokata's student. It was Kiyokata that gave Hajime his artist's name, Shinsui. When Shinsui was eighteen years old, his paintings were seen by the publisher Watanabe Shozaburo at an exhibition at Kiyokata's art school.Ukiyo-e itself is a genre of woodblock prints and paintings that was produced in Japan from the 17th century to the 19th century. The prints were very popular amongst the Japanese merchants and the middle class of the time.

A lavish portfolio of never-before-seen erotic drawings by celebrated twentieth-century American artist and gay icon, Paul CadmusPaul Cadmus entered the art scene in the 1930s with paintings of dream-like urban demi-mondes: roiling tableaux of beatniks, sailors, and prostitutes. Undergirding his work has always been the artist's masterful draftsmanship, seen in hundreds of drawings of nude male models, chief among them his long-time lover and muse, Jon Anderson. Based on a very rich and impressive selection of 19th and 20th century ship posters from Europe, the book explores in the accompanying fascinating essays three very different types of shipping and sea voyages: a) coastal shipping for the transportation of passengers and freight in the wider Mediterranean, b) steamshipping across the oceans for the European mass migration to the USA, Canada, Latin America and Australia, and c) cruise shipping in the Mediterranean for tourism and recreation. Crusader Rhetoric and the Infancy Cycles on Medieval Baptismal Fonts in the Baltic Region
This is the first comprehensive, interdisciplinary analysis to demonstrate that the representation of Infancy cycles on twelfth-and-thirteenth-century baptismal fonts was primarily a northern predilection in the Latin West directly influenced by the contemporary military campaigns. The Infantia Christi Corpus, a collection of approximately one-hundred-and-fifty fonts, verifies how the Danish and Gotland workshops modified and augmented biblical history to reflect the prevailing crusader ideology and rhetoric that dominated life during the Valdemarian era in the Baltic region. The artisans constructed the pictorial programs according to the readings of the Mass for the feast days in the seasons of Advent, Christmas and Epiphanytide. The political ambitions of the northern leaders and the Church to create a Land of St. Peter in the Baltic region strategically influenced the integration of Holy Land motifs, warrior saints, militia Christi and martyrdom in the Infancy cycles to justify the escalating northern conquests. Neither before nor after, in the history of baptismal fonts, have so many been ornamented with the Infancy cycle in elaborate pictorial programs. A brief revival of elaborate Infancy cycles occurs on the fourteenth and fifteenth century fonts commissioned for sites previously located in the Christian borderlands east of the Elbe River with the rise of the Baltic military orders and the advancement of the Church authority. This extraordinary study integrates theological, liturgical, historical and political developments, broadening our understanding of what constituted northern crusader art in the twelfth and thirteenth centuries.

Digital Embodiment and the Arts
A timely examination of the use of emerging technologies in the arts in recent decades. Based on the foundations of (auto)biographical research (JOSSO, 2010; DELORY-MOMBERGER, 2008), we used the methodological procedure called Biographical Reflective Circle-CRB (OLINDA, 2009; 2010) to construct the educational biographies (DOMINIC?, 1988) of seven young people who took part in the Art on Stage group of the Paulo and Estev瓊o Spiritist Youth Group in Fortaleza, between 2000 and 2011. The aim of this work is to understand the significance of Spiritist Art in the formation of young people, assessing its role in the production of knowledge and meaning in life. The material produced at the CRB was treated following the guidelines of discursive textual analysis (MORAES, 2003) so that we could get to the production of knowledge and experiential learning. Spiritist Art provided these young people with a wide-ranging formative experience in which friendships, difficulties, memories, the feeling of family, the discovery of youth, smiles, tears, roots, challenges, overcoming, the road, the stage, joy, work, are just examples of the precious marks of an experience that changed their lives in a way that only their own narratives can express and represent.
Theology in the Mode of Monk: An Aesthetics of Barth and Cone on Revelation and Freedom, Volume 1
This captivating study engages two of the most influential theologians of the twentieth century: Karl Barth, the Swiss Protestant theologian who constructed his theology "from above" and engaged the powers in the background of Nazi Germany, and James H.
