Media as a Catalyst for Change
How an effective role of media organizations play in a democratic country like India is a matter of study. In a democracy, the media can be used as a bridge between the rulers and the ruled. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the fact that how media plays the role of 'Watch Dog of Democracy' by providing government related information to the public and secondly, to what extent it creates a public opinion by becoming the voice of the views of the citizens. Nation building through political, social, economic and cultural democracy, the role of the media as a representative forum is not only to disseminate information and entertainment, but also to educate the public about social and political movements and their benefits and then to form public opinion, after which the opinion of public is directly or indirectly translated into legislation affects construction. In a country where there is still widespread poverty, unemployment and backwardness, the media should be oriented towards development journalism, which along with the creation of public opinion can give the legislature and political parties the right to influence the progress of the common man of the country. Can media force the making of key laws? Therefore, this research type book assesses the media's ability to give policy shape to the preferences of the common men. The problems faced by the public are disseminated through print media, electronic media and social media networking sites such as Twitter, Facebook, Instragram and WhatsApp are put in front of the public and the government, after that public opinion is created, this public opinion gives a policy basis to those problems and thus legislations related to them are created. The present book reviews the comments of Indian & Western Media on scrapping of Article 370 of the Indian Constitution as this Article was unnecessary and it used to use for vote bank politics, violation of human rights, separatism, militancy and it was also a greater obstacle in the way of Jammu & Kashmir's development and unity and peace of India.
Performance Art
The standard reference since its first publication in 1979, Performance Art continues its authoritative chronicling of one of the most important art forms to emerge in modern times. Art historian and curator RoseLee Goldberg has updated her magnum opus to reflect the current state of performance in an age where digital and web technologies are becoming increasingly dominant, as she shows how a medium once used in sporadic bursts of artistic dissent has become a worldwide phenomenon.Performance is now the medium of choice for many creatives entering the global conversation of art and culture. As the medium has developed across Asia, Africa, Europe, and the Americas it has become one of the most popular art forms for articulating "difference," whether dealing with issues of identity, politics, race, or historical background. Marina Abramovic, Matthew Barney, Sanford Biggers, Tania Bruguera, Patty Chang, Rashid Johnson, Autumn Knight, Pierre Huyghe, and Jacolby Satterwhite are among the many new and established artists whose work can now be seen in the context of other innovators in the field from the Futurists and Dadaists to Yves Klein and Laurie Anderson. Goldberg explores contemporary artists' approaches to politics, tradition, social engagement, and the art world itself, while evaluating the changing status of performance. This revised edition includes an updated foreword, an expanded reading list, and a new chapter outlining developments in the second decade of the twenty-first century in the fields of dance, architecture, technology, and virtual performance.

Grandma Moses
A major reexamination of the life, art, and legacy of a self-taught American master Grandma Moses: A Good Day's Work repositions Anna Mary Robertson "Grandma" Moses (1860-1961) as a multidimensional force in American art, whose beloved recollections of rural life earned her a distinctive place in the cultural imagination of the postwar era. Moses was eighty years old when Otto Kallir, a New York art dealer and recent 矇migr矇 from Nazi-held Austria, introduced her to the world. "Grandma Moses," as the press dubbed her, quickly became a polarizing figure, beloved by the public yet dismissed by the art world for her story-time scenes and lack of formal training. Drawing on Moses's reflection on her own life as "a good day's work," the book charts Moses's creative development from her earliest artistic efforts to the emergence of her signature style, revealing a multidimensional artist who fused direct observation of nature, labor, and personal memories to tell idiosyncratic yet compelling stories. It positions Moses as a central figure in the history of twentieth-century American art, a painter whose life and work bore witness to the Civil War, two world wars, and the civil rights era. Beautifully illustrated, Grandma Moses: A Good Day's Work captures the indomitable spirit Moses brought to her artmaking, conveying a candor and authority that still resonate today with the quest for a homespun American visual tradition. How Artists Make Money and How Money Makes Artists
How artists make a living and how money changes artIt may not be the worst time in history to get paid to make art, but it certainly is the strangest. The institutions and markets that have been supporting the arts are undergoing massive changes, some even disappearing. Meanwhile the tools to make art and find audiences have never been more accessible, and there are more people than ever making art.How Artists Make Money and How Money Makes Artists is an attempt to reckon with the history of money in the arts -- from Titian to Taylor Swift -- and how that complicated relationship is changing. David Berry analyzes past and present financial dynamics in the arts to show the practicalities of how artists make a living and how that, in turn, affects the reception and perception of artists and their work: the impacts art has on wider society, how economic realities affect aesthetic judgements of art, what kind of people are able to work as artists, and how political and cultural ideas about the nature of art affect what kind of resources are made available to it.David Berry explores how art has become central to our understanding of humanity by tying art to what makes the world go round: money. Along the way, he challenges popular ideas of what constitutes a successful artistic career and considers what our treatment of artists says about us.

Can We Stop Killing Each Other?
An exploration into the darkest side of humanity and its expression through art and culture. Can We Stop Killing Each Other? wrestles with the darkest side of humanity. It explores the fundamental question of why humans are led to kill, examining the artworks, films, video games and television programs that grapple with and manifest themes of death and destruction. Using material culture linked to moments of extreme violence, such as the Holocaust and the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda, this publication offers a challenging but eye-opening consideration of some of the most horrifying events in human history as explored through art. Using historical and contemporary art as a lens to explore these themes, the book will include a new interview with Ethiopian artist Tesfaye Urgessa (b.1983), who creates emotive paintings reflecting on the refugee crisis. It will also explore the role of art as sanctuary from violence, through new approaches to the work of Claude Monet (1840-1926)

How to Start a Dissident Art Movement
Since 2015, British artist-writer Alexander Adams has been at the forefront of debates at the intersection of politics and culture. Beginning in the mid-2010s with a critique of the failings of liberalism, evolving through books on iconoclasm and artivism, Adams found his assumptions falling away. Experience of the collapse of the public arts and political consensus-as well as encountering writings by perennial traditionalists-led Adams to address the essence of being an artist in his writings, gathered in one book for the first time. How to Start a Dissident Art Movement is a collection of polemical art essays, speeches, manifestoes and personal reflections (many previously unpublished) that develop arguments in Adams's previous books. This book acts as a challenge and invitation to ambitious artists today by outlining the inner conflicts many experience. Focussing on core issues, How to Start a Dissident Art Movement steps over criticism of institutions and instead warns of fake traditionalism and the illusory hope of localism, calling for a reconsideration of Modernist art and the establishment of parallel networks. Included is a selection of mordant and revealing private letters by the author, which discuss great art, name sources of inspiration and consider problems faced by working artists.

The Great Kitschification
The essays gathered in The Great Kitschification are an aesthetic diagnosis, surgically precise and intellectually generous, of true art versus the simulation of art called kitsch.Suzanne Visser ties together the sensibilities of artists who could never be mistaken for kitsch to extract from their work something elemental: the stubborn trace of a human at risk. They are the ground of Suzanne's claim: that art is not reducible to output, but emerges from a condition of attention no machine can replicate.Visser shows how easily an aesthetic of abundance-instant variation, infinite remix-can flood the eye while starving the soul. What is lost, she argues, is not originality per se, but orientation: the slow attunement that links gesture to meaning and maker to world. These essays invite, with uncommon clarity, a form of looking that resists the quick reward. The defense of authenticity here is not moralistic. It is procedural. Visser asks: How was this made? By whom? Under what constraints? These questions are not barriers to appreciation, but its preconditions. Why does this matter now? Because we stand at a moment when the apparatus of imitation is accelerating faster than our ability to discern what is being lost. Visser's book argues for human specificity. For the value of friction. For the slowness of bodies and hands, and the imperfect echo of memory in material. What is offered here is not a doctrine, but a form of resistance-not anti-AI, but pro-art.
What We Leave Behind
In What We Leave Behind, Peter Wortsman's fourth book of cut-ups, he lets the words run wild, in some cases, as in French poet Guillaume Apollinaire's Calligrames (1918), letting words break ranks and dance on the page; in other cases, coupling word and image; and finally, succumbing to the lure of the visual in collages in which words play a subordinate role or disappear altogether. If, as this book's first poem maintains, "we know each other from what we leave behind," Wortsman writes, "I will hope these cut-up words and images bestir a smile or two on the face of the reader and perhaps a knowing nod."
Devil's Club
Devil's Club: A Botanist's Journey Across the American Frontier follows Rachael Williams, a bold and tenacious young woman in 19th-century America who defies society's constraints to pursue a life of scientific discovery. Denied entry to New Geneva College and suffocated by social expectations, Rachael refuses to accept the quiet future laid out for her. With only her father's memory and her love of plants to guide her, she sets out alone on the treacherous Oregon Trail, determined to find the elusive Devil's Club, a plant rumored to possess powerful, ancient medicinal properties. But the Oregon Trail is more than a physical journey; it is a crucible. Every mile tests her endurance, challenges her beliefs, and forces her to confront not just the dangers of the land but also the grief and doubt she carries within. The wild terrain is both breathtaking and brutal, filled with unpredictable perils and fleeting moments of wonder.Along the way, Rachael navigates the hostility of strangers, the complexity of newfound relationships, and the ever-present question of whether ambition and independence are worth the cost. As the miles stretch on, the lines between strength and vulnerability blur, and survival becomes a delicate balance of courage, trust, and resilience. In Devil's Club, the raw beauty of the frontier conceals deeper truths, and every step forward brings Rachael closer to a discovery that could change not only her future but how she sees herself. Will she find the plant and fulfill her father's legacy? Or will the trail claim more than she can bear to lose?

The Madonna In Art
The Madonna in Art examines artistic representations of the Madonna across different periods and styles, offering insight into how depictions of the Virgin Mary have evolved in meaning, symbolism, and aesthetic form. Through detailed analysis of renowned paintings and sculptures, the work invites readers to explore religious, cultural, and historical contexts that shaped these portrayals. Beginning with early Christian imagery and moving through Renaissance masterpieces and beyond, the book highlights the variations in posture, expression, and composition used by artists to convey ideals of purity, motherhood, and divine grace. Early chapters focus on iconic works housed in Italian churches and museums, emphasizing the influence of Byzantine, Gothic, and Renaissance art traditions. Descriptions of individual artworks are paired with commentary on the artists intentions, stylistic choices, and the devotional roles these images played within communities. As the narrative progresses, the text reflects on the shifting balance between spiritual reverence and human emotion in visual interpretations of the Madonna, drawing attention to broader artistic trends and theological implications. The book ultimately celebrates the enduring appeal of the Madonna as a central figure in Western art, blending aesthetic appreciation with scholarly reflection.

Rising Up
An exploration of the impact and cultural significance of the legendary Rocky statue located at the foot of the Philadelphia Museum of Art's steps Fifty years after the premiere of the original Rocky movie, the legacy of the fictional boxer Rocky Balboa endures, as millions of people visit the Rocky statue located outside the Philadelphia Museum of Art each year. Commemorating the most famous Philadelphian who never lived, the landmark has become a monument with its own cultural mystique. In Rising Up, Paul Farber and a diverse group of scholars, cultural figures, literary critics, and artists tell the stories around the statue--of immigrant neighborhoods, Philadelphia's Black boxing legends, the fight for the future of public spaces, and the changing meanings of monuments today. These stories reveal how our monuments reflect civic power and historical identity while raising questions about social belonging. Recalling Rocky's story of going the distance, Rising Up also asks why we root for underdogs, untangling the dualities of struggle and triumph, vulnerability and strength, and strife and solidarity embodied in the iconic statue.
