Radical Worker
Timothy Speed - neurodivergent artist, poverty theorist, and relentless disruptor - throws himself between assembly line, boardroom, and bureaucratic frontline. As a Radical Worker, he refuses the paycheck as measure of worth, working instead by moral coherence, ecological resonance, and existential sense. Whether infiltrating corporations undercover or applying to run Germany's state TV, Speed exposes the deep protocols of a system that converts dignity into obedience and creativity into currency. For the Artistic Research community, this book proves that art isn't commentary - it's infrastructure. Research happens in real-time, in real life. For Critical Autism Studies, it's a rare inside-out account: autistic intensity, rule clarity and focused resistance sharpen into a tool that cuts through institutional myth. For anyone forced to work - or forced not to - this is a living roadmap: self-determined labour, basic income, and the politics of commoning are not just imagined here - they're practiced, tested, lived. Speed flips the script: poverty is not a lack, but a refusal to play by a broken game. Forced labour is social exclusion. And the true metric of wealth? The time left untouched by the system's noise. Radical Worker is manifesto, fieldwork, and survival guide - a call not to adapt, but to remake the world from the bottom up.

Ken Gonzales-Day
Through visualizing, absence, and erasure, Ken Gonzales-Day reveals the deeply political act of seeing, forcing us to reconsider the histories we inherit. Ken Gonzales-Day's work confronts the role of the visual in conveying history or in history's absences, including bodies and spaces deliberately erased, forgotten, or never acknowledged. As illustrated and discussed in Ken Gonzalez-Day: History's "Nevermade," his photography, film, drawing, and painting interrogate race and power, questioning how bodies are seen, rendered, or made invisible. His art moves between presence and absence, compelling viewers to confront their own position in relation to systems of oppression and representation. This volume, accompanying the exhibition of the same name, offers the first comprehensive study of Gonzales-Day's practice. Organized around his major series, sections of the book--including Rethinking History, Collecting Race, Forging Community, and Redrawing Boundaries--explore how his work engages with archives, bodies, museums, and public space to challenge institutional narratives. Through critical analysis and over one hundred full-color images, Ken Gonzales-Day: History's "Nevermade" illuminates the profound political and theoretical stakes of his art. Essential reading for students, scholars, and practitioners in art history, photography, museum studies, American history, and decolonial and queer studies, this book is a testament to the power of art to reckon with the past and imagine new futures.
Mass Performance
Mass Performance: Systems and Citizens examines mass performance systems from the first major festival of the French Revolution through the democratic and socialist movements of the nationalizing nineteenth and twentieth centuries in Europe, to totalitarian communist and socialist regimes in the twentieth century, ending with contemporary North Korea. While other scholars have studied specific mass performances, this study synthesizes the phenomenon across centuries and countries, focusing on its systemization. Modern nations defining or redefining their identities not only organized mass performances, but also planned to make those performances a permanent component of nationhood. Kimberly Jannarone reveals that mass performance systems, from synchronized gymnastics to choreographed rallies, encapsulate ideals and debates within emerging nations about the relationship of citizens to each other and to their leaders, playing a generative and reflective role in the culture and politics of the modern era. Mass Performance analyzes the specifics of performance choreography and design, the organizational planning and thinking behind the systems, the material circumstances of each system's emergence, and the broader intellectual milieu in which they developed. Although not a comprehensive study of such events, Jannarone's analysis of the selected mass performance systems yields new theoretical perspectives on these phenomena, a central focus of her study being how political leaders find ways to create a physically coordinated mass body politic, even during times of hardship and war. By interpreting and historicizing mass assemblies of bodies, this study analyzes the choreographies and organizations that brought thousands of people together as an ensemble and kept them together in meaning-making motion.

The Book of Caligomos Art
The Book of Caligomos Art introduces an original philosophical and artistic theory known as Caligomos Art Philosophy (C'ArtP). This theory interweaves three core concepts: Caliginosity (the obscure, shadowy, and mysterious dimensions of existence), Kosmos (the interconnected and harmonious order of the universe), and Metaxy (the transformative space "in-between" opposites). These core ideas form the foundation for a new way of approaching art, creativity, and cultural understanding. At the heart of the book is a triadic framework of Transcendence, Paradigm, and Reality (T/P/R), which serves as a lens through which all artistic creation and human experiences can be interpreted. Drawing from ancient philosophies, including those of Plato, Heraclitus, Lao Tzu, and Buddhist and Daoist traditions, alongside modern thinkers like Ken Wilber, Carl Jung, and Ned Herrmann, the book offers a vision of how art can act as both a spiritual and cognitive map for human evolution. The book unfolds across multiple dimensions: Historical exploration from Mesopotamia to a speculative future, Symbolic geometry (Torus, Pyramid, Rhombohedron), Dualities and paradoxes such as Dialetheia and Enantiodromia, Philosophical synthesis between rationalism and intuitionism, Case studies and critiques of artworks, A gamified application of C'ArtP in the form of a board game called C'Elysium, designed to help players navigate life through creativity. With its poetic language, interdisciplinary structure, and ambitious vision, The Book of Caligomos Art invites readers-artists, philosophers, educators, and visionaries-to transcend dichotomies and engage in a more holistic and creative interaction with reality.

Ancient India
"The catalogue frames the objects in a history of these religions, setting out the connection between ancient and modern India... Along with the individual history of each object, further close-up studies of each item can sometimes be more rewarding than a wideangle broad sweep. Many of the pieces in this exhibition are from the British Museum's own collection."- Open MagazineAncient India was a dynamic; cosmopolitan centre of creativity. The visual traditions of its major indigenous religions were closely interrelated; reflecting political power; changes in peoples' daily lives and artistic innovation. Exported beyond the Indian subcontinent in antiquity; these three major religions - Jainism; Buddhism and Hinduism - are living traditions and their devotional works of art impact on the daily life of billions of people across the world. This major new publication traces the development of religious imagery from around 100 BCE; when it focused on the depiction of nature spirits; to 600 CE; by which time devotional illustrations of Jain; Buddhist and Hindu deities and teachers had taken definitive shape. Moving from symbolic to human form; such imagery employed attributes; divine attendants and animal vehicles that we still recognise today and are found across the global diaspora. Examples of these ancient illustrations are found not only across South Asia; but also in Central and Southeast Asia; China and Japan - and they transformed the religious landscape of these regions too.The authors explore fascinating topics such as the first devotional illustrations of the twenty-four jinas (enlightened Jain teachers); the transformation from symbolic depictions of the Buddha to those that showed him in bodily form for the first time; and the formalisation of divine representations and devotional sculpture in Hindu traditions. This beautifully illustrated book reveals the ancient roots of the illustrations and depictions of these world religions that many will find familiar today.

By Design
The first in-depth story of the indomitable collaborator, muse, and wife of Andrew Wyeth, and of her lasting creative impact on Maine and American art. This revelatory book explores the contributions of Betsy James Wyeth (1921-2020), a multitalented maker of designed environments and interior spaces, preservationist, and creative partner to the beloved American artist Andrew Wyeth. Painters in the Valley
This volume provides a much-needed reference work on artists active in the Albuquerque, New Mexico area from 1880 to 1990. It is a prime source of biographical information on many talented but little-known artists. Before 1950 many painters saw Albuquerque as a jumping-off point for the art colonies of Taos and Santa Fe. But noted artists such as Gerald Cassidy, Carl Redin, Carl Von Hassler and Esquipula Romero de Romero stayed on in the city for extended periods. After World War II Albuquerque came into its own as a leading center of artistic activity. It was home to innovative work that included the abstractions of Raymond Jonson and Richard Diebenkorn, the lithography done at the Tamarind Institute, and computer-generated art. The University of New Mexico and Sandia National Laboratories provided inspiration and employment for many artists. Further details on painters, their work, and the networks that supported them will be found in artist entries in this volume as well as in the Introduction.
Addicts and Those Who Love Them
Portraits and words from, with, and alongside addiction--.My sons suffered dark and relentless drink and drug addictions. When they felt all hope was gone, they left this world a year apart to escape the pain. They were 27 and 29. I have painted portraits of those in addiction, out of addiction, those caught up in the crazy, lonely, frightening world living with an addict, and those working with addicts to try and help. Onto each portrait I have painted the words, the story, of the sitter. I am shining a light on addiction. And still we love.
