Kaj - A Collection
Kaj Andersen was born in Odense, Denmark in 1932. He was a remarkable figure who excelled both as a footballer and a celebrated artist. His early professional years were marked by a passion for both sports and the arts, leading him to pursue a dual career. On the football field, Kaj was known for his skilful play and leadership, as team captain for 'B1913 Odense', earning him a place in Denmark's national team during 1963. Unfortunately whilst visiting Hungary for a game, Kaj contracted Tuberculosis and spent 9 months in hospital after which he was no longer able to play at the international level. Off the field, his artistic prowess shone through his vibrant paintings, characterised by bold strokes and vivid colours in layered oil abstract pieces amongst others. Over his lifetime, Kaj Andersen created and sold many hundreds of pieces of work before his sudden death whilst playing football for the old boys in 1995 at the age of just 62.--Kaj Andersen blev f繪dt i Odense, Danmark i 1932. Maud and her husband, Gus (known as the "most artistically marked-up man in America"), traveled the country as the Wagner's Traveling Museum, exhibiting themselves and making tattoos around the US. There's something odd about twin-lens reflex (TLR) film cameras, but very appealing. I can't really explain it. TLR cameras are bulky, awkward to use and, well, kind-of weird. Still, I love picking one up and taking it out to shoot. Mamiya TLRs comprise a rare line of TLR cameras in that they were the only pro TLR cameras that had interchangeable lenses other than Contaflex. That fact alone made me long for one a long time. When I bought my Yashica Mat EM, there were Mamiya TLR cameras available, but usually at two to three times the cost. Like the other medium-format (MF) cameras - Hasselblad, Bronica, Pentax, etc. - the Mamiyas were far out of reach. That is until around 2003 when photographers were ditching their film cameras, and selling them cheap. They may not be as cheap now, but they're still worth the prices. As I said, shooting with a TLR is an odd experience, but one definitely worth experiencing.

Pain and Politics in Postwar Feminist Art
Between 1966 and 1976, American artist Nancy Spero completed some of her most aggressively political work. Made at a time when Spero was a key member of the anti-war and feminist arts-activism that burgeoned in the New York art world during the period, her works demonstrate a violent and bodily rejection of injustice. Considering the ways in which anti-war and feminist art used emotion as a means to persuade and protest, Pain and Politics in Postwar Feminist Art examines the history of this crucial decade in American art politics through close attention to Spero's practice. Curating Transcultural Spaces asks what a museum which enables the presentation of multiple perspectives might look like. Can identity be global and local at the same time? How may one curate dual identity? More broadly, what is the link between the arts and processes of identity construction? This volume, an indispensable source for the process of engaging with colonial history in Germany and beyond, takes its starting point from the 'scandal' of the Humboldt Forum. The transfer of German state collections from the Ethnological Museum and the Museum for Asian Art, located at the margins of Berlin in Dahlem, into the centre of Germany's capital indicates the nation's aspiration of purported multiculturalism and cosmopolitanism; yet the project's resurrection of the site's former Prussian city palace, which was demolished during the GDR, stands in opposition to its very mission, given that the Prussian rulers benefited from colonial exploitation. By examining the contrasting successes of other projects, such as the National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington DC, Curating Transcultural Spaces compellingly argues for the necessity of taking post-colonial thinking on board in the construction of museum spaces in order to generate genuine exchange between multiple perspectives.

Joseph Csaky
Joseph Csaky (1888-1971), a neglected pioneer of early Modernism, was a native of Hungary who became a dedicated member of the Parisian avant-garde. He took part in the 1912 Section d'Or Exhibition, considered by many to mark the high point of the Cubist movement. He was an intimate friend of such innovative giants as Picasso, Braque, & Lager.
