Planetary Realism
Traditions of realism are brought together with the decolonial and ecological concept of "planetarity" to understand a new realism in contemporary art. The devastation left in the wake of modernity and globalization is revealing a fragile and unfamiliar planet, and humanity has awakened to a new real. If the old "realist" tools of objectivism have contributed to capitalist society's divorce from the natural world, how are artists finding new ways to make us really see--and feel--the planet? Surveying a body of planet-facing art, communal practices, and activism, Josephine Berry investigates art's power to break with capitalist realism and decarbonize the imagination. With chapters on feeling as world-making, the rupture of petroleum landscapes, artists' urban exodus, and migration as survival, Planetary Realism delves deeply into art's necessary reimagining of life on Earth.

Practical Design of the Acoustic Guitar and Similar Instruments
This book is for folks that build acoustic guitars and similar instruments like ukuleles and acoustic bass guitars that want to begin doing design work but do not necessarily have technical backgrounds. The term "design work" describes both structural modifications to the instrument and esthetic changes to the instrument body. Structural modifications range from very simple things like designing string sets to support alternate tunings, to more complex efforts like designing completely new instruments for nontraditional pitch ranges. Although all such engineering can be done by trial and error, this book discusses more reliable and less time-consuming approaches that help the designer get it right the first time. The material is presented in design order, starting with the pitch range of the instrument to be designed, proceeding to the design of the scale length and string set for that pitch range, and continuing with the size, shape, and structure of the instrument body. Also provided is basic design information in a math-free format that is easy to understand. The design approaches discussed here make use of free online instrument design software, including the "G" Thang Acoustic Guitar Design Tool. The book also serves as the user's manual for "G" Thang. This software enables the designer to use powerful design technology without complicated engineering math.

Collage Your Way to Yourself
Join artist Kathleen Schonauer to create a visual collage journal - a safe place for you to develop your inner vision - a place where you can express your dreams, ideas, hopes, and fears. Like an old friend, your journal keeps your secrets - you can tell it anything without fear of judgement. The symbolic use of collage images, intuitive writing, Tarot, color, art elements, and art history covered here will guide you along on your journey of discovery - the discovery of your true, inner self.A collage is an artistic technique that involves assembling various materials onto a single surface to create a unified composition. These materials can include photographs, magazine clippings, fabric, paper, paint, and even found objects. By combining different textures, colors, and images, collages create layered and dynamic visuals that evoke emotion, tell stories, or explore abstract concepts. Artists often use collage to express their creativity by juxtaposing unrelated elements, encouraging viewers to interpret the work in unique ways. This art form can be traced back to early 20th-century movements like Cubism and Dadaism, where it was used to challenge traditional ideas of art. Today, collages are popular in both fine art and everyday crafts, offering a versatile and accessible medium. Whether for personal expression or professional projects, collages inspire imagination by blending materials into a cohesive and impactful piece of art.

Women Art Dealers
This timely book reveals the significant role played by women in the promotion and dissemination of modern and contemporary art to a global audience. It brings together a range of fascinating case studies of women-led galleries in the postwar period, challenging male-dominated histories by analyzing the work of internationally-minded female dealers who worked across continents and helped to develop transnational art networks. The book is arranged in three parts, covering gallerists, dealers and regional art scenes. Part 1 focuses on the promotion of postwar modern art by women gallerists; Part 2 examines the contributions by women art dealers toward the birth of new markets and media, such as video art and photography; finally, Part 3 analyzes case studies from the southern European art scene, paying fresh attention to several under-researched markets in the region like Italy and Portugal. Each chapter study provides a historiographic profile of the gallery under discussion and critical analysis is supported with a wide range of visual material, including portraits of the women art dealers, photographs of the exhibitions they managed, and printed documentation like catalogues, invitations, and posters that were often used to support artists on display in experimental ways. It will be vital reading for students of art market studies, as well as gallery and art market professionals.
The Art of Iran in the Twentieth and Twenty-First Centuries
This book deals with the exploration and theorisation of Modern and Contemporary art of Iran through the examination of art movements and artistic practices in relation to other cultural, social and political discourses during the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. It focuses on discourses and their impact on art movements and practices and aims to selectively explore certain prevailing debates in action during this time. To come to grips with the way that artistic trends in Iran can be traced within the intellectual and political landscape of the country mainly from the 1940s to the present, the author has tried to articulate new ideas for relating art to its wider context - whether social, cultural or political - and to bring together critical and historical evidence in order to provide an insight into current artistic concerns. The book explores these underlying themes and discourses through a series of case studies, including through close scrutiny of works of artists.

The Stars We Do Not See: Australian Indigenous Art
If loss were a currency
One sometimes wonders if silence speaks loudest not only because it signals to an absence, or an inability to articulate despite wanting to, but that it reminds us that even in whatever is said, uttered, yelled, there is always also a silence accompanying it, walking beside it, within it. And it be tales which hold on to these silences who speak loudest to us.I Was There is one such tale. A story by Helena Kuc as inherited by - and simultaneously born(e) through - her granddaughter, Kamila Kuc, it is both from before and after her. So, two tales telling themselves in their own times and contemporaneously, with each other. Fully cognisant that what is lost in the telling, in all tellings, what remains silent, is the now - that remains for the ones who watch, the ones who listen, the ones who see. That it be the ones attending to these tales - Laima Leyton, Ecka Mordecai, Dara Waldon, Jeremy Fernando, Kamila Kuc herself, and you - who hold on to this loss. A loss that is a currency: not just because it is traded, shared, but always also electric, charged. Where all of us run the risk of being charged and held accountable for - and potentially recharged and electrified by - opening ourselves to that loss.
