Questa antologia di Arti Varie avr?, forse, mille ed uno difetti, ma ha, certamente, un pregio semplice ed umile: l'intenzione di rappresentare la vita artistica di noi intesi come "cittadini del mondo". Per forza di cose un mondo ancora limitato, in questo secondo volume, ad alcune nazioni le quali, per dare seguito ad una chiara scelta indicata dal Consiglio Direttivo dell'Associazione culturale "Da Ischia L'Arte - DILA", sono inquadrate nel perimetro composto tra l'Europa e l'Africa, con al centro la nostra Italia propulsore, come sempre, di dinamiche artistiche culturali e sociali che il mondo intero ci invidia. Dopo la prima edizione di "Sinfonia con l'Africa" presentata al BookCity del 2019, abbiamo fortificata l'intenzione di creare una collana di antologie fortemente dedicate all'Africa, compattando tutte le migliori energie presenti nelle nostre Associazioni "Da Ischia L'Arte - DILA", Presidente Bruno Mancini, e ADA di Dalila Boukhalfa, con la collaborazione della testata giornalistica IL DISPARI di Gaetano Di Mglio, del magazine Eudonna e della Casa Editrice IL SEXTANTE di Mariapia Ciaghi, verso la realizzazione di un "contenitore" programmato per essere offerto da passerella in favore dei tanti amici italiani e africani dei nostri progetti. Pan-Judah!
Beautiful. Disturbing. Enlightening. Beginning in the 1920s, a man named Julius Streicher published a small weekly German newspaper called Der St羹rmer. Its mission was straightforward: to warn the German people about the threats posed by foreign and domestic Jews. The dangers were very real, and Streicher's stories gave a blunt and direct account of them. A key feature of Der St羹rmer was its political cartoons. The cover of every issue, and several interior pages, displayed cartoons depicting various Jewish dangers, in a most striking and graphic form. The lead cartoonist was a man named 'Fips' Rupprecht. His cartoons became the signature feature of the newspaper, and grew to represent the broader German struggle against Jewry. With the demise of National Socialist Germany, Der St羹rmer and Fips' cartoons were largely forgotten. Or rather, they were buried-the victorious nations certainly did not want old Nazi images floating around, raising difficult questions and making people think. Recently, though, a skilled digital artist named Robert Penman rediscovered the forgotten images. He carefully restored, colorized, and reissued them. Here, for the first time, he has compiled 200 of the best Fips images, as they have never been seen before. Penman has done a masterful job. The images are sharp, crisp, and compelling. The colors are stunningly vivid. The effect is truly astonishing. Fips' cartoons, originally printed on cheap newsprint, come alive for the first time. Every image is a small masterpiece, a true work of contemporary art. And one each tells a story-a story with relevance for the present day.Organized into six chapters chronologically, Fips' cartoons clearly demonstrate the progression of views over the period of 20 years, from before the Nazis assumed power until the very end of the war. They tell the story of Germany's rise and fall as nothing else can.
Die Neuerschaffung des David-Mythos durch Michelangelo
Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2021 im Fachbereich Kunst - Kunstgeschichte, Note: 1,7, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Diese Arbeit besch瓣ftigt sich mit der Neuerschaffung des Davidmythos durch Michelangelo. Das folgende Kapitel untersucht zun瓣chst die Erz瓣hlung im ersten Buch Samuels im Alten Testament. Dabei wird genau auf die Zuschreibungen der beiden Protagonisten David und Goliath geachtet. Darauf folgt der Bronze-David aus der Fr羹hrenaissance von Donatello. Diese Plastik wird immer wieder mit dem Marmor-David Michelangelos in Verbindung gebracht und dient als beispielhafter k羹nstlerischer Vergleich. Aus diesem Grund werden die Ikonographie und die Umsetzung der Figur genauer untersucht. Im Anschluss daran wird der Fokus auf die Entstehung Michelangelos David gelegt. Zun瓣chst wird ein kompakter Einblick zu der K羹nstlerbiografie bis zur Entstehung des Marmor-Helden gegeben. Danach wird sowohl auf die Entstehungsgeschichte, die Umsetzung, wie auch die Reaktionen auf die Fertigstellung dieses Giganten eingegangen. Michelangelo w瓣hlte f羹r diese Figur, an der schon andere K羹nstler gescheitert sind, eine divergente Interpretation als viele zuvor. Gleichzeitig wird mit dieser Arbeit der Wunsch der Renaissance K羹nstler nach den antiken Vorbildern deutlich. Darauf erfolgt ein Vergleich der David-Darstellungen. Hierbei werden sowohl die Bibelbeschreibung, Donatellos Bronze-David wie auch Michelangelos Marmor-David ber羹cksichtigt. Zum Abschluss wird ein Fazit 羹ber die unterschiedlichen Interpretationen der Figur des Davids gezogen und dar羹ber diskutiert, ob Michelangelo mit seiner Vision einen neuen David-Mythos erschaffen hat.

Killing Vincent
On July 27, 1890, Vincent van Gogh came stumbling into his room in the Ravoux Inn, in Auvers-sur-Oise, France, bleeding from a wound in his abdomen. Thirty hours later, Vincent was dead. THe common myth, which has prevailed for over one hundred years, is that the "mad" artist shot himself in a wheatfield after suffering from years of unhappiness and "insanity". But is that what really happened?Killing Vincent is meant as a historical analysis and expos矇 of the most dastardly murder of Vincent van Gogh and the19th century, nefarious cover up of the world's most iconic artist's death. This is the biggest cold case in the annals of the art world. I have attempted to continue to explore the key questions that TIME magazine asked in its October 31, 2011, cover story: "Who killed Vincent van Gogh?" and "Was van Gogh's death really a suicide?" on the "Culture" Cover. I have attempted to answer both questions by adding in modern 21st century forensic analysis. This work is not meant as an academic treatise or dissertation, with every observation, thought, and detail requiring documentation. It is only an attempt as an expose', to seek the truth of what really happened on the day Vincent van Gogh was mortally wounded, and to best connect all the missing "dots". In the process, I will try to fit the best murder scenario into what little is really accepted, and why he was murdered....significantly changing art history! This book attempts to explore all possible scenarios, no matter how likely or unlikely, or how relevant or irrelevant they may appear to be to this cold case at first glance. Which of several scenarios best puts all the facts, stories, and legends together and connects all these odd "dots" now in a persuasive manner? Sometimes the truth is more unbelievable than the reality it discloses.

Many Worlds Under One Heaven
In the mid-eleventh century BCE, the Zhou overthrew the Shang, a dynastic power that had dominated much of northern and central China. Over the next three centuries, they would extend the borders of their political control significantly beyond those of the Shang. The Zhou introduced a political ideology centered on the Mandate of Heaven to justify their victory over the Shang and their territorial expansion, portraying the Zhou king as ruling the frontier from the center of civilization. Present-day scholarship often still adheres to this core-periphery perspective, emphasizing cultural assimilation and political integration during Zhou rule. However, recent archaeological findings present a more complex picture. Many Worlds Under One Heaven analyzes a wide range of newly excavated materials to offer a new perspective on political and cultural change under the Western Zhou. Examining tombs, bronze inscriptions, and other artifacts, Yan Sun challenges the Zhou-centered view with a frontier-focused perspective that highlights the roles of multiple actors. She reveals the complexity of identity construction and power relations in the northern frontiers of the Western Zhou, arguing that the border regions should be seen as a land of negotiation that witnessed cultural hybridization and experimentation. She walks long distances from village to village and even fought with lions in certain caves. But how she became a princess and her ordeal to get her arm healed become the bedrock of this story. Her story comes with many environmental issues that need a lot of attention to our planet.

Khmer Costumes and Ornaments
The artist Sappho Marchal was the daughter of the renowned French conservator of Angkor, Henri Marchal. She spent the early years of her life in Cambodia, surrounded by the magnificent ruins of the Khmers, and produced the present study at age 23. Her fine line drawings present the myriad details of ornament and costume depicted on the stone reliefs of Angkor Wat with a clarity that could not be captured, even then, on film. Since that time, many of the stone carvings have severely deteriorated, rendering Marchal's drawings all the more valuable as a record for present-day students and restorers of Angkor.

Highlighting artists tied to Phnom Penh and S?i G簷n and drawing on a range of visual art as well as documentary and experimental films, L礙 points out that artists of Southeast Asian descent are often expected to address the twin traumas of armed conflict and modernization, and shows how desirable art on these themes is on international art markets. As the global art market fetishizes trauma and violence, artists strategically align their work with those tropes in ways that L礙 suggests allow them to reinvent such aesthetics and discursive spaces. By returning to and refashioning these themes, artists such as Tiffany Chung, Rithy Panh, and Sopheap Pich challenge categorizations of "diasporic" and "local" by situating themselves as insiders and outsiders relative to Cambodia and Việt Nam. By doing so, they disrupt dominant understandings of place, time, and belonging in contemporary art.

Marshall McLuhan (1911-1980) is best known as a media theorist-many consider him the founder of media studies-but he was also an important theorist of art. Though a near-household name for decades due to magazine interviews and TV specials, McLuhan remains an underappreciated yet fascinating figure in art history. His connections with the art of his own time were largely unexplored, until now. Installation art as experience of self, in space and time
Installation art has modified our relationship to art for over fifty years by soliciting the whole body, demonstrating its sensitivity to space, surroundings, and the living beings with which it is constantly interacting. This book analyses this modification of perception through phenomenological approaches convoking Husserl, Heidegger, Merleau-Ponty, as well as Levinas, Depraz, and the neuroscientist Varela. This theoretical framework is implicit in the various case studies which revisit works that have become classic or emblematic by Carl Andre, Bruce Nauman, Dan Graham; inaugural experiments that remain available only through photographic and written archives by Jean-Michel Sanejouand, Philippe Parreno, as well as the influence of the mode in the realm of music. The book also examines the transference of this Western form to Asia, revealing how it resonates with ancient Asian representations and practices-often associated with the spiritual.The distinct chapters underpin the role of space as a metaframe, the common ground of the various installations. While the nature and agency of space varies-from social, historical space, leisurely or political space, inner psychological space, to shared empty space-these installations reveal the chiasm between the individual body and the outside space. The chapters bear testimony of the process in which the physical journey of the spectator's body within a material-at times invisible-space and its structural components takes place in time, as a succession of micro-experiences. 'Installation art as experience of self, in space and time' adds to the existing literature of art history a level of theoretical, experiential and transcultural analysis that will make this inquiry relevant to both university students and independent researchers in the academic fields of philosophy, psychology, aesthetics, art theory and history, religious and Asian studies.

Early Islamic Art, 650-1100 is the first in a set of four volumes of studies by Oleg Grabar. Between them they bring together more than eighty articles, studies and essays, work spanning half a century. Each volume takes a particular section of the topic, the three subsequent volumes being entitled: Islamic Visual Culture, 1100-1800; Islamic Art and Beyond; and Jerusalem. Reflecting the many incidents of a long academic life, they illustrate one scholar's attempt at making order and sense of 1400 years of artistic growth. They deal with architecture, painting, objects, iconography, theories of art, aesthetics and ornament, and they seek to integrate our knowledge of Islamic art with Islamic culture and history as well as with the global concerns of the History of Art. In addition to the articles selected, each volume contains an introduction which describes, often in highly personal ways, the context in which Grabar's scholarship developed and the people who directed and mentored his efforts. The present volume concentrates primarily on documents provided by archaeology understood in its widest sense, and including the study of texts with reference to monuments or to the contexts of these monuments. The articles included represent major contributions to the understanding of the formative centuries of Islamic art, focusing on the Umayyad (661-750) and Fatimid (969-1171) dynasties in Greater Syria and in Egypt, and on the Mediterranean or Iranian antecedents of early Islamic art. Historical, cultural, and religious themes, including the role of court ceremonies, the growth of cities, and the importance of the Qur'an, are introduced to help explain how a new art was formed in the central lands of the Near East and how its language can be retrieved from visual or written sources.
