Jayalalithaa withdrew the support of her party -AIADMK- to the 13-month old government. Knidos
This memoir describes the authors experiences as a young archaeologist participating in the American archaeological excavations at ancient Knidos at south-west Turkey in 1971. Knidos, once a great classical metropolis and now entirely abandoned, is situated at Cape Crio, an isolated but glorious location at the end of a mountainous finger jutting out towards the Dodecanese islands. The ancient metropolis is famous for its marble statue of the goddess, Aphrodite, the scandalous first naked image of the deity made by the renowned sculptor, Praxiteles in the 4th century BC and imitated throughout antiquity. The book describes ('the mad consul') Charles Newton's epic excavations at Knidos during the Crimean War when, with Parliamentary support and a frigate, he excavated tons of sculpture which was dispatched the British Museum. Newton's excavations set the scene for Iris Cornelia Love's excavations (1967-77)--the Guggenheim heiress from Manhattan, who believed she discovered Aphrodite on the day American astronauts landed on the moon. So beschreibt Horst Keller Monets Arbeiten am Giverny Garten, der sp瓣ter Vorbild f羹r die Nymph矇as Werkserie wurde. Genau diese Unterwerfung und Beherrschung der Natur durch den Menschen wird fast hundert Jahre sp瓣ter von Pierre Huyghe wieder aufgegriffen und ausgestellt. Huyghes Nymph矇as Transplant basiert auf Monets Nymph矇as Gem瓣lden und thematisiert die Beziehung von Mensch und Natur durch den Verweis auf den k羹nstlichen Giverny Garten. Da die Werke so eng verbunden sind, ist es ertragreich, diese in den direkten Vergleich zu stellen, um so Huyghes Intention hinter dem Nymph矇as Transplant herauszuarbeiten. Dazu werden im folgenden Text beide Werke einzeln vorgestellt und dann auf Gemeinsamkeiten und Unterschiede untersucht. Dabei wird vor allem der Begriff 織Transplantat織 genauer beleuchtet werden, da dieser, wie man am Werktitel unschwer erkennen kann, Fokus von Huyghes Werk ist. Es soll gekl瓣rt werden, was Huyghe mit seinem Werk transplantiert und wie erfolgreich dieser Versuch ist. Auch die Rolle der Natur in den Werken ist von gro?er Bedeutung und wird in einem eigenen Abschnitt erl瓣utert werden.
Maria als Stadtpatronin von Stra?burg

Jahrhunderts die Stadtpatronin von Stra?burg. Die B羹rger der Stadt w瓣hlten sie zur Schutzherrin, um sich von der Herrschaft des Stra?burger Bischofs zu befreien. Im Mittelpunkt des Ringens um b羹rgerliche Autonomie stand das Liebfrauenm羹nster. Indem die bisch繹fliche Marienkirche symbolisch durch den Marienaltar in eine B羹rgerkirche umgewandelt wurde, gl羹ckte die kommunale Umformulierung ehemals geistlicher Sinnangebote. Mit der ?bernahme der Bauverwaltung und der Gr羹ndung des dem Altar angeschlossenen Liebfrauenwerks flossen dem Stadtrat gen羹gend Gelder zu, um die Geschicke der Stadt und den Bau der Kirche weitgehend bestimmen zu k繹nnen. Mit der Marienkirche als Ort der Identifikation und Integration hatte sich der Stadtrat des Konsenses und der Loyalit瓣t der B羹rger versichert. Indem das Marienbild auf den Herrschaftszeichen der Stadtgemeine - Siegel, M羹nzen, Stadtrechtsdruck und Heerfahne - abgebildet wurde, nutzten und verst瓣rkten die st瓣dtischen F羹hrungsgruppen die verbindende Kraft des Marienkults. Ziel dieser Arbeit ist es, das Stra?burger Stadtpatrozinium Marias anhand der zentralen Elemente der Marienverehrung wie Marienstatue, Stadtsiegel und M羹nzen, Stadtrechtsdruck, Stadtbanner und dem Marienzyklus am S羹dquerhausportal unter Einbeziehung der wichtigsten geschichtlichen Ereignisse der besprochenen Zeit, die Stra?burg und das M羹nster betreffen, zu veranschaulichen und au?erdem an ihnen die Bedingungen, die zur kommunalen Umformulierung f羹hrten, aufzuzeigen.

As a unifying element in the Caribbean modern art movement and the Harlem Renaissance, tropical aesthetics became a way for visual artists and performers to express their sense of belonging to and rootedness in a place. Tropical aesthetics, No禱l contends, became central to these artists' identities and creative processes while enabling them to craft alternative Black diasporic histories. Painting, Poetry, and the Invention of Tenderness in the Early Roman Empire
Tenderness is not a notion commonly associated with the Romans, whose mythical origin was attributed to brutal rape. Yet, as H矇rica Valladares argues in this ground-breaking study, in the second half of the first century BCE Roman poets, artists, and their audience became increasingly interested in describing, depicting, and visualizing the more sentimental aspects of amatory experience. During this period, we see two important and simultaneous developments: Latin love elegy crystallizes as a poetic genre, while a new style in Roman wall painting emerges. Valladares' book is the first to correlate these two phenomena properly, showing that they are deeply intertwined. Rather than postulating a direct correspondence between images and texts, she offers a series of mutually reinforcing readings of painting and poetry that ultimately locate the invention of a new romantic ideal within early imperial debates about domesticity and the role of citizens in Roman society.

The defensive system of the lower danubian limes in late antiquity was structured within provincia Scythia in an advanced line, corresponding to the last course of the Danube, and in a more backward one hinged on large fortified towns, which at least from Zaldapa to the south reached as far as Noviodunum to the north, passing through Tropaeum Traiani and Ibida, but also through minor fortifications such as Ulmetum and Vicus Bad(---). Here we intend to concentrate our attention in particular on the fortresses of provincia Scythia which guarded the defensive line organized along the river, in order to define the characteristics of the Christianity on this border of the empire through the analysis of the archaeological record found in the settlements which first faced the burden of the defense of the limes, subjected to continuous pressure especially in the last period of its history. This analysis will be based primarily on monumental evidences, starting with the buildings of the Christian form of worship, which, more than other findings, give the measure of the presence of organized Christian communities and which will be studied in their topographical organization and in their architectural characteristics, then considering the structures of the funerary framework, where they actually exist; the inscriptions and the categories of the movable finds most indicative for this research will be examined by reuniting them, where possible, with their original structural contexts. The picture that emerges from the so far known archaeological record seems essentially functional to the communities that inhabited these settlements, in which the military element obviously played a primary role, while the evangelizing impulse, addressed also to the territories beyond the limes, was perhaps entrusted to the initiative of the important centers located in Moesia Secunda or in the more backward area to the east of the Danube.

Als theoretischen Ausgangspunkt der Werkanalyse wird der Begriff des "male gaze" angewandt - der m瓣nnliche beobachtende Blick, der insbesondere von der britischen, feministischen Filmtheoretikerin Laura Mulvey besprochen und gepr瓣gt wurde. Damit wird aufgezeigt, wie man als Betrachter von Degas' "Frau bei der Toilette" einer sehr privaten und intimen Szene beiwohnt und durch die bemerkenswerte Bildkomposition eine spannende und reziproke Beziehung eingeht, die in einem charakteristischen Wechselspiel zwischen N瓣he und Distanz resultiert. Dabei liegt ein Fokus auf den Gipsarbeiten, um darauf aufbauend ?berlegungen zur Gipsarbeit "Die B羹rger von Calais" nachvollziehen zu k繹nnen. Anschlie?end folgen eine Beschreibung und Analyse der sp瓣teren Rezeption des Werkes durch Candida H繹fer. Durch H繹fers Rezeption wird deutlich werden, inwiefern sich Rodins Plastik "Die B羹rger von Calais" einer neuen Fragestellung zu Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts widmet, da H繹fer diese in besonderer Weise zitiert und erweitert. Durch ihre fotografische Arbeit intensiviert sich der Eindruck der Plastik Rodins, wie auch die theoretischen ?berlegungen, die auf der Grundlage seiner Arbeit entstehen. Gleichzeitig wird der Diskurs um die Einordnung der Begriffe Original und Reproduktion um eine, sich mit dieser Frage erneut befassenden K羹nstlerin, bereichert. Zur Architektur der St. Aposteln Kirche in K繹ln
Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2010 im Fachbereich Kunst - Kunstgeschichte, Note: 1,0, Universit瓣t Duisburg-Essen (Kunstgeschichte), Veranstaltung: Romanische Kirchen, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: In der folgenden Hausarbeit werde ich mich mit der Kirche St. Aposteln auseinandersetzen, eine der insgesamt zw繹lf romanischen Kirchen in K繹ln. Ich werde mit einem historischen Umriss beginnen und versuchen die Geschichte um den Bau und die vielen Umbau- beziehungsweise Restaurationsarbeiten der Kirche vom Baubeginn im 11. Jahrhundert bis heute zu er繹rtern. Der Schwerpunkt soll in meiner Arbeit allerdings auf den architektonischen Gegebenheiten der Kirche liegen, sowohl vom Au?enbau als auch vom Innenraum. Hier werde ich auch im Vergleich mit anderen Kirchenbauten besonderen Bezug auf die aufwendige Dreikonchenanlage und die Doppelch繹rigkeit von St. Aposteln nehmen. Nicht nur aus Gr羹nden der Vollst瓣ndigkeit, sondern auch wegen der an manchen Stellen nicht ganz unwichtigen Zusammenh瓣nge von Bau und Ausstattung der Kirche, folgt im Anschluss noch ein Teil zu einigen Werken innerhalb des Kirchenraums und zu ihrer Bedeutung f羹r den Stift. Im Vorhinein m繹chte ich noch erw瓣hnen, dass w瓣hrend meiner Recherche einige Fragen aufgetaucht sind, deren Antwort sich mir nicht sofort erschloss, unter anderem die anf瓣ngliche Westung der Kirche und die damit verbundenen Zusammenh瓣nge zum Petersdom in Rom. Da die Recherchearbeit zu den Antworten auf diese Fragen einen wichtigen Teil meiner Recherchearbeit 羹berhaupt darstellt und sich aufgrund jener die Grundstruktur meiner Hausarbeit erst entwickelt hat, wird der allgemeine Aufbau sich an diesen neugewonnenen Erkenntnissen meinerseits orientieren. Es gibt zum Thema St. Aposteln viel Literatur 羹ber die Restaurationen und den Wiederaufbau nach dem zweiten Weltkrieg, in denen 羹berall sehr detailliert beschrieben wird, wann welche ?nderungen stattfanden und was die Vorg瓣ngerbauten vom aktuellen Bau unterscheidet. The Purma Camera Book
Picking up a camera that is 50 or more years old, understanding how it works, using it in the field and obtaining a set of unique photographs can be very rewarding. There are many how to books whether they are original camera manuals or photography technique books, but I found few books that help a photographer get the most from using old and vintage cameras in today's world. 

I chose to use Purma cameras as they are a somewhat eccentric series of cameras, relatively easy to use and readily available at a reasonable price from auction sites, car boot fairs, Facebook Marketplace, etc. The shutter mechanism, lens and body are all simple and it is therefore usually possible to understand whether a Purma camera is usable upon first inspection. The only issue that photographers may need to navigate is the supply of 127 film. It is available from some film suppliers or sourced by adapting 120 film.
Haunting Without Ghosts

Juliana Mart穩nez argues that recent Colombian novelists, filmmakers, and artists-from Evelio Rosero and William Vega to Beatriz Gonz獺lez and Erika Diettes-share a formal and thematic concern with the spectral but shift the focus from what the ghost is toward what the specter does. These works do not speak of ghosts. Instead, they use the specter to destabilize reality by challenging the authority of human vision and historical chronology. By introducing the spectral into their work, these artists decommodify well-worn modes of representing violence and create a critical space from which to seek justice for the dead and disappeared. The Art of Medieval Jewelry
What are the origins of the imagery and designs on common jewelry and portable artwork between late antiquity and the Middle Ages? These dynamic centuries encompass the transformation of the Greco-Roman world into the nascent kingdoms and medieval states upon which most modern European nations are based. The choices of jewelry and other forms of personal expression among the lower classes in ancient times is notoriously difficult to contextualize for a number of reasons. Nonetheless, these precious articles were expressions of individual identity as well as signifiers of rites of passage. As such, they reflect not only the people who wore them, but also the social milieu and artistic trends at that moment in time. This new study assists in identifying the types, origins and routes of transmission of personal artwork, particularly finger rings, across Europe and Byzantium, an area of study that has been neglected in previous works. Some of this material represents the first time relevant research from Central and Eastern Europe has been translated and made available to the general reader in the English-speaking world.
Of Life, Love and Painting the Vermeers
This is a story of a young man born during the Great Depression who experiences a traumatic injury at the age of nine and spends years recovering. He hides his scars and becomes an exceptional public speaker in high school winning two national first place awards. His life after high school is and odyssey of trading one profession for another ending up teaching art in Ohio. He marries and has three children, but eventually is divorced by his loveless wife. He recalls a love affair from his early years in San Francisco before his marriage when he hears doctor Amy Jordan's voice on PBS radio in his car. He re-establishes contact with Amy and begins a long exchange of letters and emails with the mutual understanding that she is married and cannot break her vows. A one sided friendship is established. He has dabbled in art his entire life and settles into teaching classical painting to give voice to his passion for beauty. He decides to paint like Vermeer and ends up painting all of Vermeer's paintings. He reproduces all the painting in their original sizes. He has a show of these paintings at the North Canton Little Art Gallery in Canton, Ohio and settles into teaching and maintaining his love/friendship with Amy.

Sie erscheint hier zusammen mit Kaiser Augustus und war bei Gelehrten und Laien im Mittelalter die bekannteste prophetische Seherin. Bei den Bildbeschreibungen wird an der Au?enseite, das hei?t der Alltagsseite, zuerst die obere und danach die untere Reihe beschrieben, dasselbe Vorgehen gilt auch f羹r die innere Seite, die jeweils an Festtagen ge繹ffnet wurde. Der Heilsspiegelaltar, das Hauptwerk von Konrad Witz, ist immer noch ein Mysterium. Genau genommen ist alles an im fraglich. Weder kann die urspr羹ngliche Bestimmung der zw繹lf Tafeln mit Sicherheit festgestellt werden noch ihre zeitliche Entstehung noch die Zusammensetzung und den Standort des Altars. Sogar die Autorenschaft des Malers Konrad Witz, so einleuchtend und unantastbar sie scheint und heute von Kunstwissenschaftlern kaum noch bezweifelt wird, ist nur auf dem Weg 羹ber Kombination von Urkunden und Stilvergleichen erschlossen worden. Aufgrund der vielen fehlenden Tafel 羹berzeugen auch die zahlreichen j羹ngsten Rekonstruktionsversuche nicht restlos. Gab es den Heilsspiegel Altar 羹berhaupt - oder stammen die Tafeln m繹glicherweise von einer Folge kleinformatiger Alt瓣re?
