Pandemics will likely become more prevalent in the coming years due to climate change, the growing global population, and other factors. Psychology plays an essential role in pandemics, in which people's beliefs, emotions, and behaviors influence the spreading and containment of infection. Uncertainty is an inherent aspect of pandemics; when faced with novel pathogens, people cope with these invisible, uncertain threats in various ways, including coping strategies that provide only an illusion of control, making people calmer but not safer. Other psychological phenomena observed during pandemics include polarized fear reactions (excessive alarm vs. undue disregard for the threat), fleeing, panic-buying, xenophobia, rumors and conspiracy theories, protests about wearing protective facemasks, anti-vaccination attitudes, lockdown protests, increases in mood and anxiety disorders, and other societal problems. Efforts to manage one problem (e.g., lockdown to stem the spread of infection) may worsen other problems (e.g., mental health). Correlation Among the Army Officer Combat Identifier, Personality, and Career Satisfaction
Retaining quality officers in today's volunteer Army is critical. Personality should be considered during the selection process to assist in placing officers in a career branch suited to their character. The Army accessions board looks at several things when selecting a lieutenant for his or her initial branch. One thing overlooked during this process is personality. The senior leader in the officer-producing program will submits their impression of the lieutenant's potential and recommends a career branch where they think the cadet will do well. This is the only time the lieutenant's character is considered. Personality is the most overlooked detail in an officer's selection for branch. Some personality types may be more successful in one career path over another. The correlation among personality temperaments and satisfaction within a combat identifier in the US Army is examined in this paper. Personality type is measured by the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI). Retaining high quality career officers in the US Army may be enhanced if personality is considered when selecting career branch. Current ongoing operations such as that in Bosnia-Herzegovina cause psychological operations (PSYOP) personnel to affect behavioral modification in target audiences accustomed to very sophisticated media. PTSD Type Symptoms and CGSC Class 08-01, a Study of Field Grade Officers and Implications for the Future
With the emergence of the Global War on Terror (GWOT), the mental illness of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is increasingly identified in returning veterans. A 2006 mental health study released by the Pentagon found 11% of returning OEF veterans and 19% of returning OIF veterans have mental health issues. Of the veterans sampled, 5% were Army Officers and 2% were Marine Officers. Thus, the primary research question was: Are the combat veterans of CGSC Class 08-01 representative of the Army's statistics on returning veterans with PTSD type symptoms? Using the Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Checklist-Military Version (PCL-M) and a demographic questionnaire, a survey sample of 297 field grade officers from a population of 584 combat veterans found 35% of single tour OEF veterans and 41% of single tour OIF veterans had PTSD type symptoms. 41% of multiple tour veterans had PTSD type symptoms. 50% of the survey sample believed mental health counseling would damage their careers and the percentage increased to 70% among those with PTSD type symptoms.This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it. Personality should be considered during the selection process to assist in placing officers in a career branch suited to their character. The Army accessions board looks at several things when selecting a lieutenant for his or her initial branch. One thing overlooked during this process is personality. The senior leader in the officer-producing program will submits their impression of the lieutenant's potential and recommends a career branch where they think the cadet will do well. This is the only time the lieutenant's character is considered. Personality is the most overlooked detail in an officer's selection for branch. Some personality types may be more successful in one career path over another. The correlation among personality temperaments and satisfaction within a combat identifier in the US Army is examined in this paper. Personality type is measured by the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI). Retaining high quality career officers in the US Army may be enhanced if personality is considered when selecting career branch. PTSD Type Symptoms and CGSC Class 08-01, a Study of Field Grade Officers and Implications for the Future
With the emergence of the Global War on Terror (GWOT), the mental illness of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is increasingly identified in returning veterans. A 2006 mental health study released by the Pentagon found 11% of returning OEF veterans and 19% of returning OIF veterans have mental health issues. Of the veterans sampled, 5% were Army Officers and 2% were Marine Officers. Thus, the primary research question was: Are the combat veterans of CGSC Class 08-01 representative of the Army's statistics on returning veterans with PTSD type symptoms? Using the Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Checklist-Military Version (PCL-M) and a demographic questionnaire, a survey sample of 297 field grade officers from a population of 584 combat veterans found 35% of single tour OEF veterans and 41% of single tour OIF veterans had PTSD type symptoms. 41% of multiple tour veterans had PTSD type symptoms. 50% of the survey sample believed mental health counseling would damage their careers and the percentage increased to 70% among those with PTSD type symptoms.This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
