Hiding in Plain Sight
For author I. M. Enough, self-hatred began at a young age, and he turned to food to escape. He dodged the bottle until his early twenties, but once he began drinking, there was no stopping him. He sacrificed morals, family, and livelihood for the next drink. He combined that with a tortuous relationship that lasted for a decade too long, and became the laughingstock of his own life. The asinine things he did made for captivating stories that lie within the walls of this book. Hiding in Plain Sight shares his story while addressing several misunderstood issues about addiction. Enough touches on alcoholic thinking, a process describing how your brain changes with alcohol. He describes in detail how he beat the ignition interlock device to still drive drunk, and how close he was to becoming a serial killer. All his tales lead to a profound, enthralling, and unexpected ending. By sharing his personal history, Enough hopes to help change your worldview and perhaps make you a little more empathetic to what others are going through. He is proof that anything is possible and that a little hope can go a long way. This personal narrative presents a man's journey as he overcame alcoholism, obesity, trauma, and codependence.
An Improbable Psychiatrist

Told through engaging and captivating prose, this book will pull you into Rebecca's world and leave you with the powerful reminder that with the right support and treatment, it is possible to live with severe mental illness. Ultimately, this is a story of hope.
Then and Now
This collection of essays offers some novel reflections on the nature of the crowd, the collective, and the subject's relation to the social link. Prompted mainly by Freud's Group Psychology and Analysis of the Ego, the authors analyze crucial issues ranging from La Boétie's late Renaissance theory of voluntary servitude to the early 20th-century Europe's collapsed empires and revolutionary uprisings, to progressive South Africans' turn to segregationism, to Bolsonaro's adoption of Nazi rhetoric. How, in today's climate of individual freedom and delusion of autonomy - a promise animating both progressive identity discourses and racist, supremacist, and totalitarian discourses - are we to relaunch a bond of community that respects differences and takes responsibility for social well-being? Essays by Betty Berardo Fuks, Paola Mieli, Rosalind Morris David, Pavón-Cuéllar, Alain Vanier
Childhood Experiences Influence Women's Mental Well-being
Early identification of adverse childhood experiences can help children get traumainformed care earlier in life before lifelong psychological or physical damage can result. This research project was an investigation into the relationship between the adverse childhood experiences of sexual abuse and substance use disorder, along with the independent variables of age, sex, income, education level, marital status, and employment among women with a history of domestic violence. Bronfenbrenner's social ecological model served as the theoretical framework. Archival data from the Behavior Risk Factor Surveillance Study for South Carolina from 2020 to 2021 were used for analyses.
The Existential Itch
From the Author: As a Psychotherapist, I decided to write this book because of my growing concern at the number of clients I am seeing who have been adversely affected by religion or religious behaviour. I frequently see clients who can trace the root of their maladjustments and neurosis to religion, a religious upbringing or some abusive event justified by religious edicts or religious people. I have heard tales of controlling behaviour and abuse, often systematic abuse dressed as a religious necessity.Frequently, these effects have been brought about by people for whom religious behaviour has become a mask for abuse. Yet what is most clear from all these conversations is the way contact with self is subverted, not just for the client, but for all concerned. For a long time, I have been seeing how religious behaviours interfere with contact, reducing man's ability to be, the removal of agency and sublimating of will. Much of the rules for suppressing our desires, needs and feelings come from our society and frequently, religious sources. Challenging them is not simple for the therapist or client, therefore, I intend to explore options and unpack some of my ideas in this book in the hope that others will find my professional insights useful.

Dedicated to the Soul
A richly illustrated collection of never-before-seen writings and drawings from the notebooks, portfolios, and personal papers of C. G. Jung's wife and collaborator Emma Jung (1882-1955) was the life and work partner of one of the great intellectual figures of the twentieth century, yet she kept most of her creative and personal life private. Dedicated to the Soul brings together previously unpublished materials from Jung's private archive, introducing her voice into the literature of the early psychoanalytical movement and revealing a vibrant inner life and a glowing presence that until now was known only to her family and a handful of patients, students, and friends. This fully annotated collection features journal entries, dream accounts, drawings, paintings, and lectures. It sheds new light on Jung as an early collaborator in the creation of analytical psychology who may have originated the concept of the animus, one of C. G. Jung's central constructs. It paints a riveting portrait of a dynamic woman who, determined to break free of the conventional world of her upbringing, fearlessly interrogated her social environment and developed her own systems of meaning. With introductory essays that chart Jung's personal, intellectual, and psychological development, Dedicated to the Soul brings the creative work of this boldly imaginative and irreverent spirit to a wider audience and offers new perspectives on the role of women in the early history of analytical psychology.
Caring for the dying process in the perception of women with cancer
This study is the result of my concern, as a nurse, for women with cancer who are currently beyond the possibility of being cured. As such, the trajectory of this study focussed on understanding the meaning of care from the perspective of these women. With this in mind, I chose to carry out qualitative research, using the phenomenological approach, based on these guiding questions: - Tell me how I can look after you. How would you like to be looked after? From the women's descriptions emerged ontological unifications that were analysed and interpreted according to Martin Heidegger's framework. These unifications made it possible to unveil paths for the action of caring in the dying process that go beyond technical-scientific knowledge, since caring also implies empathy, listening, patience, zeal, pain control and autonomy. Supported by the women's point of view, I was able to grasp the meaning of being with cancer in the process of dying, not as something finished, but as a being of possibilities, even in the face of a factual situation that is living with existential terminality.
Group Analysis and Psychodynamic Group Therapy with Children and Adolescents
Children are born into a social context that is not of their choosing. From early childhood, this context is made up of diverse group experiences that play a crucial role in shaping a person's social life and desire to learn. This makes the group context an ideal setting for therapeutic and educational work, especially with children and adolescents. This volume offers numerous practical suggestions for using the group as a helpful and supportive medium, e.g., in parent-infant/toddler groups, parent/caregiver groups, groups with children or adolescents, and in preventive group work in schools. The contributions provide insights into the diversity and complexity of conceptual, group analytic work with children's, youth and parents' groups, and show how this work can be successful in outpatient settings, clinics, youth services, counseling centers, or schools. The combination of basic and applied knowledge makes this anthology an indispensable reference for any practitioner. With contributions by Andreas Opitz, Anke Muhle, Birgitt Ballhausen-Scharf, Dietrich Winzer, Hans Georg Lehle, Christoph Muller, Beate Schnabel, Anja Khalil, Carla Weber, Christoph Radaj, Dietlind, Kohncke, Franziska Schopfer, Furi Kharbirpour, Gerhild Ohrnberger, Harald Weilnbock, Horst Wenzel, Kadir Kaynak, Matthias Wenck, Thomas Schneider, Tilman Sprondel, Ursula Probsting.

1 The Book of Stupidity
We're all stupid. To a greater or lesser extent, with a greater or lesser harmful impact on ourselves and society. "Never attribute to wickedness what can be adequately explained by stupidity." This is Hanlon's Razor, an epigram that tries to demonstrate that, many times, bad actions, acts or events that could be linked to villainy and evil are nothing more than consequences of the most beautiful and simple stupidity. The concepts of good and evil and their complexity have afflicted man and influenced his psyche for eons. The ancient religions, especially those that most influenced the development of the Western world and its culture, are almost always Manichean, almost never having a middle ground between right and wrong, always with absolute measures in relation to the subjects treated. Of course, in the modern world society has adapted to these concepts, learning that a truth is never absolute and that understanding right and wrong, 'good and evil', is actually a much more complex and difficult task (do you really get it?).Going back to the premise that mistakes, cruel acts, and historically bad decisions are driven more by stupidity than by evil, before examples let's look at some concepts about what stupidity actually is and how it moves and influences human decisions and interactions.A stupid person is a person who causes harm to another person or group of people, without, at the same time, obtaining any advantage for himself or even suffering a loss, a definition by the Italian historian Carlo Cipolla, which we will delve into in the course of the next chapters.
The James Tapes
When Dr. Joel Brende first met James, he immediately discovered that James suffered from memory loss and gaps of awareness, and that two or more parts of his brain seemed to operate independently. It became apparent that James's mind had split off traumatic memories of emotional and physical pain via the psychological defense mechanism of dissociation, which created split identities. During his early psychotherapy sessions, Dr. Brende met five distinct personalities: James-the original personality; Jay-the predominant and protective personality who took over the body when James suffered a psychological trauma at age seven; Jim and Jimmy-two child personalities; and Shea-a homosexual personality. During psychotherapy, as portrayed in The James Tapes: Book One, there were significant personality changes that led to James's rebirth experience as that book came to a close. This process is detailed by Dr. Joel Brende from video recordings of psychotherapy sessions with James made over a number of years, something no other mental health professional has ever accomplished. In the follow-up- Book Two, The James Tapes: Integrating Fragmented Personalities, the book describes a continuing course of psychotherapy that begins with James's reborn self as he struggles to become a human being and depend on his therapist. Several new personalities will be revealed, including J, a reborn "new self," an imposter JAY, Jack, the father, and a mystical personality who later becomes predominant. Jay returns in a more mature way to help James leave the hospital. Finally, Shea returns as a female to raise her son Jimmy, and Jack takes on the responsibility of raising his son Jim.

Are We All Hyperactive?
Since ADHD was first classified as a disorder in the 1980s we have seen a startling increase in diagnoses for children, adolescents and, most recently, even adults across all demographic categories along with its standard medical regimen of nervous-system stimulants. How to account for the sudden appearance and rapid proliferation of this astonishing epidemic? How to evaluate the persistent claims of a biological cause based on inconsistent correlational studies? And how to rethink psychoanalytic theory and practice to better address the subjective instability that this "disorder" describes? In this important and timely book, Patrick Landman addresses these questions in a clear and comprehensive way, creating a new roadmap for clinicians and researchers that is commensurate with the unique forms of suffering in our times.

Life Drive & Death Drive Libido & Lethe A clear road through Freud's metapsychology leading to helpful fi ndings and new concepts
"Cordelia Schmidt-Hellerau navigates what has been for many of us the murky waters of metapsycholgy, and provides an exceptionally lucid, logically coherent account of the overall structure of Freud's psychoanalytic theory, the relationship of its various elements, and the significance for clinical practice and neurophysiological priniciples. She convinces the reader that Freud's metapsychology, critically and synthetically approached, contains more creative potential than anything else yet produced in psychoanalysis. Her own extraordinary capacities as a psychoanalytic scholar and passionately creative thinker have given us a Freud for the future."-Alan Bass, The Psychoanalytic Quarterly"This is an original, systematic, scholarly, challenging overview of Freud's metapsychlogy and a fundamental reformulation of Freudian metapsychology in the light of the evolution of psychoanalytic thinking to the present day."-Otto F. Kernberg, IPA Past President"Interest in the 'general theory' of psychoanalysis seems to be revieved periodically, despite the many criticisms and rejections to which it has been subjected. Perhaps it reappears, Phoenix-like, as each new generation of psychoanalysts takes the field and seeks to reassure itself of its affiliation with the spirit of science. This book is yet another attempt to reformulate Freud's metapsychology, this time with great rigor and precision."-William M. Greenstadt, Journal of the American Psychoanalytic Association"Cordelia Schmidt-Hellerau has transfigured Freud's 'witch metapsychology' into our illuminating muse on how the mind works. By introducing new concepts into our psychoanalytic thinking, she challenges our established views and opens new perspectives on understanding psychic processes and functioning - thus establishing her place as an important contributor to our contemporary discourse."-Arnold Richards, Editor of IPBooks
Invisible Rivals
A multidisciplinary view of how our competitive and cooperative natures make us human For centuries, people have argued about whether humans are moral animals--good or bad, cooperative or competitive, altruistic or selfish. The debates continue today, dressed up in the language of modern science. In this book, Jonathan R. Goodman makes the case for synthesizing the two sides. Drawing on insights from anthropology, evolutionary biology, and philosophy, he argues that rather than being fundamentally cooperative or competitive, we are capable of being both--and of exploiting each other when there is an opportunity to do so. The core of invisible rivalry is how we make ourselves and others believe that we are acting cooperatively even as we manipulate those around us for our own benefit. In confronting this collective tendency toward self-interest, Goodman says, we can make the fundamental first step in fixing the breakdown of trust in society. Consequently, we will be better able to combat the myriad issues we face today, including widespread inequality, misinformation in a new technological environment, and climate change.

Peacefull Solutions
Thomas Arcuelo S矇h sh矇 ye簽 Goh or "White Eagle" Your "ymphatic ocean" is full of organisms, all of which try to work together in harmony to keep you alive. If this balance is disturbed, your thought processes and behavior change. In the entire universe, there is no such thing as "duality"; it is not possible for anything to exist outside of the processes of existence (cause and effect)! Everything is a cycle . "You", as the translator of these symbols, may think in terms of good and bad. These types of consciousness and thought processes have created a relationship with what you define as "life and death". You believe that your physical body keeps you alive, but this is not true. You exist as an entity, an energy form that uses the physical matter of the earth. With this, we go on an incredible journey of discovery when you open the book.
Flow 2.0
Thought-provoking resource on how the late Professor Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi's ideas can help us navigate our increasingly complex lives and world Flow 2.0 honors the legacy of the late Professor Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, showing how some of his major contributions can be extended to improve our lives in 2024 and beyond. Csikszentmihalyi is best known for his work on the concept of "Flow," which describes a state of optimal experience in which one's skills match the challenges of a situation, and for his role as a founder of positive psychology. Underlying much of this work was his innovative and groundbreaking use of pagers and questionnaires to produce a database based on people's self-reports of their ordinary experiences. His first book, Flow: The Psychology of Optimal Experience became a bestseller in 1990, which presented his conclusions based on that database in a warm, humanistic prose style. His other books, The Evolving Self (1993), Creativity (1996), and Good Business (2003), expanded on his theories in a variety of directions. Written by a close colleague and former student, Flow 2.0 includes discussion on: PERMA+4, a framework for work-related wellbeing, performance, and positive organizational psychology What Mihaly taught us about flow, including the basics of flow and optimal experience as well as flowing together as a collective Flow 2.0 across life contexts, such as in the new hybrid world of work, sports, leisure, and the future of digital society What Mihaly's insights mean for our lives, human flourishing, wellbeing, and positive functioning in the years ahead Flow 2.0 is an essential read for all individuals who followed Professor Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi and wish to continue building on his work to improve their own lives and the lives of those closest to them.
Gender problems of suicidal behaviour
Suicide is a serious medical and social problem that has an important impact on the demographic situation in the world. Thus, according to WHO, in 53 developed countries of the world among the main causes of death of people aged 15-34 years, suicide takes the third place and this trend is characteristic for both sexes and different ethnic groups 13. Despite the large number of studies in the field of suicidology, the existing methods of suicide prevention are not effective enough [122, 123], which necessitates their improvement. One approach to solving this problem may be the development of gender-differentiated methods of suicide prevention. This is due to the presence of important differences in the peculiarities of suicidal behavior in representatives of different sexes.
A Haemodialysis Case
Based on a practical case, this paper aims to show the importance of psychology in the hospital setting. Consequently, a clinical case is presented, highlighting significant facts in the patient's life. The patient is a chronic nephropath with organic symptoms that interfere with his subjectivity, and the content of the data collected is analysed using clinical listening through the psychoanalytic approach. The conclusion is that the patient's psychological care enabled him to elaborate on his issues and put his suffering into words.

Justice
Understanding and defining the meaning of justice is broad and controversial. In the light of great philosophers such as Aristotle, Kant and John Raws, as well as theorists who have delved into discussions on justice such as Piaget, Kohlberg and Yves de La Taille, we sought to discuss conceptions of justice based on the accounts of seven young people who debated the subject. And do schools, the authority figures in them and parents play a fundamental role in shaping values such as justice? The book provides concepts about these values for building an ethical personality. Young people's strong disbelief about justice in the country, as well as indignation about racial or socio-economic discrimination were highlighted. On the other hand, there was also a desire for the school to discuss ethics. There is an urgent need to reflect on the role of the school! May the indignation found in the young people's reports and the importance they attach to dialogue echo far and wide, in the name of raising people's awareness of the most rational of virtues, which is justice. May the theory go beyond the shelves of books to become part of people's core values, governing their behaviour.
Impact of Domestic Violence on Destructive Tendencies in Children
This research examines the impact of domestic violence on children's personality development, specifically focusing on destructive tendencies in children aged 5 to 7, a critical period for personality formation. The study hypothesizes that children exposed to domestic violence exhibit more destructive tendencies, including aggression, anxiety, and negative attitudes toward parents, compared to those from non-violent families. The research methods combine an interdisciplinary approach, utilizing projective tests (Cactus, Rene Gilles, and Children's Apperception Test), verbal descriptions, and experimental situations. The study compares two groups: a Study Group of 10 children from crisis centers and a Control Group. Using mathematical-statistical methods, including Student's t-test, the research finds significant differences in aggression, anxiety, deprivation, and distrust between the groups. Children from violent environments show higher levels of these tendencies. These findings underline the need for intervention and preventive measures to address and reduce aggressive behaviors in children exposed to domestic violence.

The book aims to propose an explanatory model in which personality traits and human values explain the concern for honor. More specifically, to find out the personality and value profile of men and women from the capital and the interior of Roraima, to compare concern for honor according to gender and the context of the capital and interior cities, and to find out the correlates and predictors of concern for honor.

The Brazilian retail sector has undergone profound cultural and structural changes, and is currently one of the segments that generates the most job opportunities in the labor market, offering diverse functions for professionals from different areas. Understanding Professional Choice through Focusing
The aim of this study was to understand professional choice using the Focusing technique with adolescents from the first to the third year of secondary school. It was concluded that adolescence is a period of many bio-psycho-social changes; it is the beginning of the maturation of their personality and their contact with the world. At the start of the third year of secondary school, parents begin to make demands on the teenager's career choice, whether it's the dream of doing the course, but not being able to afford it, or even continuing the family legacy. This can be a very difficult time for teenagers, as they are making a choice and giving up other opportunities they might otherwise have. For a better understanding of this study, we used concepts proposed by Genlin in relation to Focusing, which is a tool that makes it easier to get in touch with the individual's inner issues.

Blame Gabriel
Some losses once born can never be undone. The hardest thing in life is losing someone you love. Although death is the one certainty in life, death and in its aftermath, the grieving process is rarely discussed until after the event. Grief includes physical, emotional, spiritual, and psychological reactions to loss. Acute grief results from a sudden unexpected loss. This short book intends to look at acute grief resulting from an unexpected and sudden death of a loved one, often forcing the survivor to question the very nature of life and existence itself.

By presenting, identifying and characterising the biopsychosocial factors present in the genesis of the Serial Killer.
The Method of Levels
Based on Perceptual Control Theory, PCT (explained in the foreword), this therapeutic method, called The Method of Levels (MOL) leaves the patient in control with no interference from the therapist.Author Timothy Carey shows how you can ask very simple questions about background thoughts to assist people experiencing psychological distress. Without offering advice or commentary of any kind, you can help people review their problems by "going up a level" and reviewing their internal conflict "from above" enabling them to find ways to resolve the problem by changing their sense of what is important - changing how they look at, or consider, the conflict. While working for Scotland's National Health Service Dr. Carey used the approach described in this book exclusively with his primary care patients. Some of his colleagues learned MOL from Dr. Carey and used it too. MOL achieved a new level of service efficiency such that a 15 month waiting list was reduced to 0 months. From a review by Kalen Hammann: I've just finished the Method of Levels, and I'm astonished, delighted, and inspired. I was a psychotherapist for many years, using a variety of approaches (predominantly Gestalt Therapy, several versions of family therapy, and more recently Psychology of Mind), and while my clients were often happy with the results, I frequently wasn't. My fundamental dissatisfaction arose from the fact that I never knew WHY we were successful when we were, and what had gone wrong or failed to go right when we weren't. Now I think maybe at last I know.

Intelligence
In Intelligence: The Great Lie, Roy Andersen examines why we think intelligence is only a measurement of capability, without realising how it is used to perpetuate inequality through the discrimination of people based on their race, ethnicity, and class. Yet, based on 40 year of research, Roy shows the fallacy of IQ and SAT exams, explaining why intelligence cannot be measured to reveal a very great conspiracy played against the common man for nearly two centuries. In a book said by the Dean of an American university to be one of the most important published this century, Andersen discusses a greater understanding of the purpose of the genes for intelligence, which lead to clearer understanding of the environment. When this is correctly understood, any individual may dramatically improve their intelligence. Here lies the means for education to dramatically alter its operations, to better prepare our youth for the uncertain AI world that awaits them. The book is praised for being both thoroughly researched and easy to read, offering practical solutions for a fairer future which we should all consider. What Readers Are Saying: You are about to read a well-researched book that offers to be one of the most important everwritten, as it will lead you on a memorable and transformative journey. In this work, Roy Andersenoffers a very savvy and constructive account of what intelligence is and the role it has been playingin our global society. Although deeply researched, the book is also very easy to read and enjoy;the author has spent most of the past 40 years involved in this domain. This is a book that offers tobring profound changes to the ways we educate and teach students, just as it will cause us tounderstand differently the ways in which students learn.Professor David S.
