Touched by Suicide
Touched by Suicide by Christi Taylor-Jones delves into the very personal, yet archetypal, reasons why people choose to end their life, or think about doing so. Although depression and mental illness are often cited as motivating factors, Taylor-Jones contends that anger, shame and self-hatred are greater contributors. Anxiety and impulsivity are also implicated. Underlying the suicidal urge, however, is a deep, and often unconscious, longing to end suffering through transformation and rebirth. Lacking the ability to undergo that process symbolically leaves no choice but to enact it literally. Taylor-Jones emphasizes the importance of the symbolic element, and points out that suffering is part of life, and to live life fully requires making meaning out of the pain we do suffer. She explores the views of suicide throughout time, from the Greeks to Christianity and later psychology. She describes the role depression, mental illness, shame, and trauma play in suicidal thinking, as well as heroic and selfless motivations behind some suicides. The book also distinguishes between conscious and unconscious suicide. Her book, based on her own personal and professional experiences, as well as the basic tenents of C.G. Jung regarding the Self, the individuation process, and the soul, offers insight and hope to those who consider or who have attempted suicide, as well as those who seek an in-depth approach to the subject. Taylor-Jones claims that we need to transform the shame and judgment that often accompanies suicidal feelings and replace them with empathic understanding of suicide's ultimate goal. Christi Taylor-Jones, MA, LMFT is a certified Jungian Analyst and writer, who is a frequent contributor to the journal Psychological Perspectives and other publications over the last thirty years. Her first book was Midlife Parenting; A Guide to Having and Raising Kids in your 30s, 40s and Beyond. Slender Threads
Robert A. Johnson was a Jungian analyst, an international bestselling author and lecturer. Robert's most famous books, He: Understanding Masculine Psychology, She: Understanding Feminine Psychology and We: Understanding the Psychology of Romantic Love, are beloved across the globe. Robert trained with C.G. Jung and his wife, Emma Jung, and attended the Jung Institute in Zurich, Switzerland with Joseph Campbell, among others. In spite of Robert's fascinating and accomplished life, he rarely sat for interviews. In 2002, Pittman McGehee, Jr. gathered a film crew of talented friends to film his father, Episcopal priest and Jungian analyst, J. Pittman McGehee, Sr. to interview Robert over the course of two days. The resulting film, Slender Threads, is a wide-ranging interview covering many topics relevant to today's world and has garnered quite an online following over the past 20 years. This book, Slender Threads, is based on the transcript of the interview, and includes an introduction by Pittman McGehee, Jr., Ph.D. as well as the original introduction to the film by J. Burnout Syndrome
Burnout is characterized as a consequence of chronic stress related to occupational activity. This work refers to a study aimed at understanding Burnout Syndrome, through access to existing Brazilian literature on the subject and the experience of workers who have been affected by this syndrome. This study was carried out through qualitative research, using the empirical phenomenological method to conduct three (03) interviews with people who had left their jobs due to chronic exhaustion of the physical and psychological resources necessary for professional performance. We came to understand that the participants in the research were affected, in their own peculiar way, by a long process of physical and psychological exhaustion related to their professional activities, which characterizes Burnout Syndrome, resulting from the poor interaction between personal, social, occupational and organizational factors.
Ways To The Self
In this volume, Murray Stein and Diane Stanley explore, compare and contrast key features of the Buddhist view of Self liberation and the Jungian process of individuation. In Chapter One, they share experiences that opened a path to Self-knowledge in their own lives, including psychedelics, meditation, synchronicity, dreams and active imagination. The value of integrating transcendent experiences is explored in Chapter Two. In Chapter Three, they look at art work as soul-work, based on a series of twenty-four pictures from a Jungian analysis. What do such images, absent the specific dream content from which they arise, reveal about the direction of individuation? Chapter Four focuses on the tensions and difficulties of living in two worlds - the temporal and the timeless - as well as on the unconscious drive to bring them into synergy. Finally, the discussion concludes by circling back to the original question and asks: what are the limits and prospects of liberation of the Self?Table of ContentsPreface Conversation 1: Ways to the Self: Psychedelics, Active Imagination, Dreams and Jungian PsychoanalysisConversation 2: The Problem of Integration Conversation 3: Pictures from Analysis Conversation 4: Of Two Minds in One Conversation 5: Liberation: Limits and Prospects References Biographies

The Shadow of a Figure of Light
The Shadow of a Figure of Light: the Archetype of the Alcoholic and the Journey to Enlightenment delves into the nature of modern psychospiritual transformation by examining the human thirst for wholeness through the lens of alcoholism and addiction. Establishing an unknown historical thread that ties renowned psychiatrist C.G. Jung and Alcoholics Anonymous co-founder Bill Wilson, Cody Peterson shows how their methodologies each stemmed from an ancient shamanistic source constellated through what he has coined the archetype of the Alcoholic. Painting the Twelve Steps as a modern myth, the author presents the Alcoholic as a paradoxical image leading us towards enlightenment amid a deepening, culture-wide spiritual crisis.Table of ContentsAcknowledgmentsForewordIntroductionPersonal RootsMyths of MeaningPart One: The Mythological Mycelia of the Twelve StepsPsychological RootsWilliam JamesHarvard, 1875The Varieties of Religious Experience, 1902Clark University, 1909The Spiritual AncestorsSymbols of Transformation, 1912Mythological MyceliaJung and Jaime, 1923Mother Earth, Father SunJung Goes to Taos, 1925Jung Goes to Africa, 1925-26Myths of Expanding ConsciousnessJung and Rowland, May 1926Rowland and the Oxford Group, 1932Bill Wilson Gets Sober, 1934The Twelve Steps, 1939Part Two: A Psychological Approach to the Twelve Step MythLiving Myths and Dying GodsThe Anonymous AlcoholicGod Is DeadThe New God-ImageJung's Psychological ApproachWilson's (Psychological) ApproachAn Immaculate ConceptionThe Great RealityThe Psychological Function of the God-imageThe Real Problem with Western MetaphysicsThe Objective PsycheThe Breath of LifeMeister EckhartAn Inadequate ConceptionAn Eastern ApproachThe NuminosumShaped Energy"The Primitive"Spiritual DynamicsThe Coniunctio OppositorumThe Laws of Spiritual DynamicsWilson Discovers a Middle WayPart Three: The Thirst for WholenessThe Archetype of The AlcoholicAn Archetype EmergesAlcoholism and the West's Spiritual CrisisThe Alcoholic and the TricksterSpiritus Contra SpiritumThe Wounded HealerThe Music of AlcoholicsThe DevilThe Power of Evil in Twelve Step MythologyAn Insoluble DilemmaSelf-annihilationThe Christ-imageAn Incomplete God-imageEnantiodromiaThe Boy Whistling in the DarkPart Four: The Ego and the SelfThe SelfThe Inflated EgoExpanding Spiritual ConsciousnessThe Fall and the At-one-mentThe FallThe Mythos of the Anonymous AlcoholicThe At-one-mentThe Mystery of CompulsionThe Myth of CompulsionVocation, The Creative InfluenceDoorways to the SelfA Portal into the Universal MindEmulating the SelfConclusionThe Shadow of a Figure of LightProjections of the SelfMaking the Darkness ConsciousA Play of Light and DarkBibliographyIndex

This Element defines temperament and describes its roots in neurobiological systems as well as its relevance to children's developmental outcomes, with a focus on understanding the influence of temperament in children's social and environmental contexts. It covers key developmental periods, situating the contribution of temperament to children's development in complex and changing processes and contexts from infancy through adolescence. Cultural Stereotype and Its Hazards
Although it is widely believed that Japanese people are typical collectivists compared to individualistic Westerners, this view is not supported by empirical research. Employing 'Japanese collectivism' as a case example, this book explores how the dichotomous view of cultures was established and investigates how cultural stereotypes exacerbate emotional conflicts between human groups. Drawing on empirical findings, it theoretically analyses the properties of cultural stereotype to reveal the hazards associated with stereotyping nations or ethnicities. Students and researchers from numerous disciplines, including psychology, anthropology, sociology, political science, and economics, will gain fresh insights from this reconceptualization of culture.

New Sprouts from an Old Branch
This little work recounts gems of wisdom the author recalls in living life on life's terms over a lifetime. In moments of contemplation, he recalls wisdom given and lessons learnt to pass on to the reader in lessons of the consequences of his lot in life in the afternoon of his existence. He recounts the wisdom of wiser heads than his own that he had not listened to before he ultimately accepted the consequences of his actions. The author reflects on the lives of great artists, men of science, philosophy and spirituality in a vision of learning to live according to the ways of the spirit, not the ways of the world. It is in the telling of this story in this reflection that he can pass on the lessons he is still learning for the mutual benefit of the author and you the reader,
Item Definition
"Item Definition - Importance of an Underestimated Work Product" by Andy Gudera is a quirky and insightful guide that dives deep into the often-overlooked process of item definition in product development, specifically within the automotive industry. Drawing on over 20 years of experience, Gudera shares his observations and frustrations with a lighthearted yet practical approach, comparing complex product development to the simplicity of operating a coffee machine. He points out that engineers often create technically brilliant solutions, yet these fail to align with the real-world needs of users, primarily because they lack clear and thorough item definitions. The core of the book revolves around how crucial it is to clearly define the intended function of a product right from the start. Gudera explores how communication gaps, fuzzy requirements, and poorly documented ideas lead to misunderstandings that can snowball into impractical or even unsafe designs. Through a blend of technical insights and humor, he argues that many problems in engineering stem from a neglect of the item definition stage-a simple, foundational step that holds the potential to prevent costly errors down the line. With chapters that break down verbal communication, the importance of precise language, and how diverse factors like user behavior, technical processes, and even human anatomy play a role in product success, Gudera offers a comprehensive look at what goes wrong when item definitions are not handled with care. He encourages engineers to take a step back, think holistically, and pay attention to the small details-be it how a product will be used, serviced, or even decommissioned. Gudera's informal style keeps things approachable, making this not just a handbook for engineers but a broader commentary on how clear communication and thoughtful planning can make all the difference in complex projects. While he sprinkles in some dry humor to keep things fun, the underlying message is s

Seven Deadly Sins
A FINANCIAL TIMES BEST BOOK OF THE YEAR Seven Deadly Sins will explore the underlying nature of the seven deadly sins, their neuroscientific and psychological basis, and their origin in our genes.Gluttony. Greed. Sloth. Pride. Envy. Lust. Anger. These are The Seven Deadly Sins, the vices of humankind that define immorality. But do these sins really represent moral failings, or are they simply important and useful biological functions that humans need to survive? Instead of being acts of immorality, are they really just a result of how our bodies, our psyches, and our brains in particular, are wired? In Seven Deadly Sins: The Biology of Being Human, Guy Leschziner, a professor of neurology, dares to turn much of what society thinks of as morality on its head and to ask these controversial questions. Leschziner takes readers on an exploration of the Seven Deadly Sins as he looks at their neuroscientific and psychological bases, their origin in our genes, and, crucially, how certain medical disorders may give rise to them. He introduces us to patients whose physical and psychological conditions have given rise to behaviours that have for centuries been labelled as "sin" and how these behaviours might actually be evolutionary imperatives that preserve the tribe and ensure the wellbeing of our societies. In Seven Deadly Sins, a book certain to cause debate and raise controversy, Guy Leschziner, a writer who has explored the mysteries of our sleeping brains and the odd crossed wires of our five senses, asks whether these traits truly represent sin, or simply reflect our intrinsic drive to survive and thrive.

Relationship between level of stress and adherence to treatment.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between the level of stress and adherence to treatment in type 2 diabetic patients in a public health institution in Xalapa-Veracruz, using the Perceived Stress Scale 14 and Morisky Green 8 instruments, comparing age and sex with the variables stress and adherence to treatment. This was a prospective descriptive study in which 44 persons participated voluntarily. Analysis of results. The data showed a higher level of therapeutic adherence in men and a lower or almost null level of stress; the opposite was the case in women, who showed a medium and low level of therapeutic adherence and a level of stress in the categories once in a while and often. Conclusions. The data suggest further studies on these relationships, since it seems that the female population shows low adherence to treatment and frequent levels of stress as risk factors.
