Asylum for People with Disabilities
Care for people with disabilities is based on a charity-custodial model. This situation arose from public health and rehabilitation policies, which favoured the transfer of resources to the community, keeping care under the aegis of religious humanitarianism. Asylums in their various forms are marginalised from scientific institutions, such as first-line hospitals and rehabilitation centres. These nursing homes provide shelter and basic care for their clients in a very precarious way, worsening the condition of the people interned there and breaking family and social ties once and for all. By characterising a typical hospital institution and analysing interviews with an institutionalised subject using a psychoanalytical framework, the aim was to understand the impact of asylum on the process of constituting subjectivity and the mechanisms that sustain the practice of asylum. The hospital-asylum emerges as an invisible support for the modern institution of rehabilitation.
Neurocognitive intervention in learning disorders.
This book is based on an investigation in which, from a neuropsychological perspective, the effect of the application of the Lumosity cognitive stimulation program on the cognitive functions of memory, selective attention, visual attention, processing speed, problem solving and cognitive flexibility to improve the performance of children with learning difficulties is addressed. Regarding the results, an ascending learning curve could be observed in the five participants, however, the presence of fluctuations corresponding to environmental and emotional factors should be mentioned.AUTHORS: Daniela Cerra R繳a; Alexandra Obando Rodr穩guez; Yeri Fairuz Pallares Nieto, Miguel Alberto Monta簽ez Romero.
Horse-assisted coaching
Burnout illnesses are becoming increasingly common. Pressure to perform and stress are factors that characterize our society more than we would like, and this problem starts with our children. If we see life as a car race, a pit stop will not be enough to reduce the stress in our lives. Society needs to change its way of thinking. Horses are the ones who bring us into the here and now, who accept us exactly as we are, no matter who we love, what color our skin is or how much money we have. We can learn a lot from horses if we are open to them and are prepared to embark on a journey that brings us back to ourselves. The question I want to answer in this paper is to what extent the horse has an influence on the coaching process and whether the horse is effective in preventing burnout. I was able to feel the calming effect of horses for myself, to let them arrive and to experience the power of using my own energy in the right non-verbal way. This is an experience that many more people should experience.
Domestic neglect
This book deals with the neglect practised by poor families against children between the ages of zero and two. The aim was not to discuss neglect as a synonym for poverty or as the sole cause of poverty, but to understand it from the subjective perspective of the relationships between parents and children. The choice to focus on families with young children is due to two factors: firstly, the greater occurrence of this type of violence against children in this age group and, secondly, the importance of affective bonds between parents and children at this stage of development, an aspect emphasised by Donald W. Winnicott. Domestic neglect is the most common type of family violence in Brazil. The concept of neglect has been used to describe various situations involving children in situations of rights violation and also as a synonym for poverty. Priority was given to a case study of families whose children had been sheltered due to neglect. One point in common between the families is that they do not recognise their own practices of neglecting their children.
Cancer - A Journey of Healing
The book will elucidate the scientific aspects of cancer and will focus on assisting patients, doctors, and families in coping with cancer-related lifestyles, including the psychological impact of the condition during challenging times. Through a comprehensive questionnaire regarding patients' emotions, we will explore the full spectrum of human feelings accompanying the diagnosis and coping with chemotherapy pain and dietary adjustments. Upon receiving a cancer diagnosis, patients may experience a range of emotions, such as shock, fear, anxiety, and sadness. It's important for patients to recognize and understand these emotions and seek support from family, friends, and therapists. As patients gain more knowledge about their treatment plan, they may begin to feel more confident in managing their condition. Reading this book may help patients develop resilience against distress and support their treatment journey. Therefore, dear patient, despite our pain, let us be grateful for others. I am committed to sharing my scientific knowledge, personal journey, and patient experiences with you honestly and transparently, and I apologize if I fall short of perfection in my work.
Understanding Human Nature
2024 Hardcover Reprint of 1927 English Edition. Adler provides a practical understanding of how childhood shapes adult life, which in turn might benefit society as a whole. Unlike the culturally elitist Freud, Adler believed that the work of understanding should not be the preserve of psychologists alone, but a vital undertaking for everyone to pursue, given the bad consequences of ignorance. This approach to psychology was unusually democratic for psychoanalytic circles. It is a work that anyone can read and understand.

Occupational Stress
The world of work is constantly evolving, driven by the economy and the job market. Today, we are keenly aware of the relationship employees have with their work on a daily basis. Indeed, the experience of work and the relationship it creates are quite distinct realities. From a systemic perspective, the variety and complexity of environments, their interactions and their effects on individuals, are both at the origin of stress reactions and offer a repertoire of resources that enable the implementation of adjustment modalities. Our disciplinary approach in psychology places great emphasis on relationships and interactions with the social environment. The social environment provides new resources and modes of regulation, but it is also a place where the impact of persistent environmental stressors can be felt. Thus, the problem of open space remains a constant preoccupation for employees: assessing one's work environment or workspace is necessary in the light of current changes.
The twilight of psychic life
This book describes the role of the clinical psychologist in working with people suffering from dementia of the Alzheimer's and related type, in residential care facilities for the elderly. My encounter with elderly people diagnosed with dementia by medical science is first and foremost about understanding them as subjects. This book questions the legitimacy of the clinical psychologist's place vis-?-vis neuropsychology in this very special clinical field. This involves considering the different conceptions of dementia, from neurology to psychoanalysis. By means of a case study, I wanted to shed light, from a phenomenological perspective, on the density of presence and the nature of the bond between patient and clinician. Through supportive psychotherapy and analysis of dementia processes, the possibility of recreating memory within this dyad emerges. This work was originally written as part of the Master 2 professionnel de psychologie clinique et psychopathologie at Universit矇 Denis Diderot - Paris 7.
Phylogenetic Evolution of Sleep in Animals
Sleep in mammals is quite precisely regulated, as a constant daily quota is maintained through a balance between its duration and intensity, a phenomenon referred to as sleep homeostasis (Landolt, 2008). One of the measures of sleep intensity is related to the number of delta brain waves observed in the electroencephalogram during the slow sleep phase or NMOR (without rapid eye movements). Other physiological variables, such as arousal threshold, sleep continuity, motor activity, heart rate and respiratory activity, are also useful indicators to identify sleep depth.
Energy Efficient Building Design
The textbook is devoted to theoretical and practical issues of designing energy-efficient buildings, including in the hot, dry climate of Uzbekistan. The stages of development of energy-efficient buildings in foreign countries are covered, the current state of the issue is explored, and problems are identified that impede the widespread implementation of such facilities in domestic practice. The process of functioning of energy-efficient civil buildings is presented as the life cycle of a complex energy system that is in constant interaction with the external and internal environments. A set of issues is being considered to ensure a favorable microclimate in the premises of civil buildings by improving their space-planning solutions and air-conditioning systems, increasing the thermal protection of external enclosing structures. Special attention is paid to the issues of energy audit in buildings as one of the effective measures to increase the level of energy efficiency during the operation of construction projects. Issues of increasing energy efficiency in the transport industry are considered.
Science & Soul
In the realm of scientific exploration, two groundbreaking studies have shed light on the enigmatic phenomenon of Near-Death Experiences (NDEs) and the nature of consciousness itself. The first study, led by Dr. Sam Parnia, captivated the world with its findings on the Near-Death Experiences of 2000 patients. These individuals, who had been clinically dead, reported experiencing consciousness and cognition that transcended their physical bodies. They recounted vivid details of their surroundings and medical procedures. (One patient told his doctor what the doctor was thinking during the cardiopulmonary resuscitation - thoughts which the doctor had not revealed to anyone). Another blind patient saw and read a sign on a passing train outside the hospital (which nurses confirmed). Trinity College physicists then demonstrated on 40 conscious patients that consciousness & cognition are produced by quantum entanglement.
Assessment and Intervention with Children, Adolescents, and Adults with Neurocognitive Challenges
Neurodivergent children, adolescents, and adults demonstrate both learning and attention challenges that contribute to academic, social, and workplace failures. The emotional consequences of these disorders can often include lowered self-esteem, pervasive feelings of shame, profound insecurity about academic skills, and a deep sense of vulnerability. This leads many individuals with neurocognitive difficulties to consult with psychotherapists for help in alleviating their psychiatric symptoms. Nechama Sorscher argues that it is therefore essential for clinicians to be mindful of the various types of learning disorders and their impact on the developing psyche while facilitating insight and awareness of these issues. Assessment and Intervention with Children, Adolescents, and Adults with Neurocognitive Challenges: A Psychodynamic Perspective provides an overview of the different types of learning disorders, reviews the literature on common psychological themes found in the psychotherapy of individuals with these disorders, and offers practical suggestions for treatment, as illustrated in case histories. This book discusses how to accurately assess and successfully intervene with children, adolescents, and adults with learning disabilities, attention disorders, and autism spectrum disorder.
The Missing Piece
This book will give insight into the power that the spirit man, shaped in the image of God, has to heal all wounds, even those hidden within the recesses of the soul of man. This book explores the many layers of the complex world of mental health, the external environment that impacts the mind and spirit. The author also suggest various solutions, while holding fast to the truth that no matter the method of healing, God and our Lord Jesus must be a part of the process. Renowned psychologist Larry Crabb argues "that certain attempts to address this issue as a psychological disorder may actually diminish the profound internal struggle taking place within an individual's soul." Crabb suggests that "some of the challenges we often attribute to psychological disorders may actually be indications of a disconnected soul."

The Science of Change
A detailed exploration and integration of behavior change research into a unifying multi-level fractal theory, Intentional Change Theory (ICT), showing the science behind sustained, desired change at the individual, dyadic, team, organizational, community, and country levels. Change is constant and ever-present in everyday life. Yet sustained, desired change is much harder to grasp. Bringing together 50 years of research into behavior change, The Science of Change explores Intentional Change Theory (ICT) and highlights how the model can be used to understand and support lasting change. In this book, Richard E. Boyatzis presents a unifying theory for lasting change with an examination of each phase and principle in this multi-level, fractal theory and provides examples of sustained, desired change at the individual, dyadic, team, organization, community, and country levels. The five phases of ICT describe a cycle of change. It starts with a vision of an ideal self, examines the real self, and then creates a learning agenda for getting closer to the vision before applying it through experimentation and practice and building resonant relationships to enable the entire process. It highlights how the ideal self and a shared vision are the drivers of change, that goal setting and problem solving suppress openness to new ideas and people, and that resonant relationships are characterized by shared vision, shared compassion, and shared energy. The framework described in this book is equally applicable to getting better at playing the guitar, achieving a department sales target, rallying a community to action over a toxic spill, or mobilizing a country to fight a pandemic.
A Conceptual History of Psychophysics
This book explores the concept of psychophysics and details the development of the ideas which made the mathematisation of desire possible. The experience of desire accompanies us all throughout life, but dealing with it as psychologists and scientists is far from easy. Psychophysics was conceived to help map, mathematically, these unknowable feelings of desire. As such, this book will help to provide an accessible account of psychophysics while telling the story of its creation, which was, in essence, the birth of scientific psychology and contemporary cognitive neuroscience, alongside many of the technologies which characterize the contemporary world. It is a strange and intriguing story, which begins with the German physiologist Ernst Heinrich Weber in the first half of the nineteenth century, and its story will help the reader gain fresh insight into how scientists came to be able to map and quantify complex and private emotional states.
The Illusion of Control
"Recommended for readers interested in gaining tools to improve their behavior and the tendency to want control of everything and everyone." -Library Journal Describes how people grossly overestimate the power they have over others while simultaneously missing opportunities to enjoy and use the power they have over themselves. Based on scientific evidence (and lots of real-life experience), The Illusion of Control: A Practical Guide to Avoid Futile Struggles makes a well-justified case that people grossly overestimate how much power they have over others and simultaneously miss out on opportunities to enjoy and exploit the power they have over themselves. Readers learn how to reduce stress and improve quality of life by giving up ineffective habits and attempts at controlling the uncontrollable. The book intentionally begins by challenging readers to analyze where and when they are objectively not in control and how much failed control costs. In a second block of chapters, broad strategies are suggested in order to bring about change, and multiple psychological theories are offered as tools for gaining control. Next, these tools are applied to changes within the individual to target sleep, drug use, weight control, and negative mood states. Finally, applications will demonstrate how to gain partial control (but still less than they wish) with respect to strangers, children, spouses, friends, workplaces, and broad political questions.

But he comprehensively describes the forming of human thoughts and feelings, the development of personality and the existence of superpowers. He demonstrates his findings with parables, phrases from sacred books and scientific works. Books, such as this, when read in a timely way, will not only guide us on the right path, but will also heal us.The "Diagnostics of Karma. System of field self-regulation" heals.
Drug abuse among university students
The consumption of licit and illicit drugs has increased considerably worldwide. This increase is noticeable in the university student population. Among the various reasons is the ease of access to drugs due to the age of majority, the need to be accepted in the group, socio-environmental influences, the wide availability of alcohol at festive events, without forgetting the power that the media exerts over young people. In view of this, this study is important in order to understand the risk factors as well as the protective factors related to drug abuse, so that strategies for prevention and health promotion can be devised. The aim of this study was to identify the abusive use of alcohol and other drugs in a sample of university students and its possible associations with risk factors (depressive symptoms, violence and impulsivity) and protective factors (resilience) present in life. The methodology used was descriptive research with a population of 152 university students from a university in the interior of the state of S瓊o Paulo.

Vocational Dreams
Jungian analyst Steven Herrmann advances his hypothesis in this book that vocational dreams can grace us with a sense of destiny. By paying careful attention to our dreams, calling archetypes may suddenly break forth from the Self to heal neurosis by dissolving defenses against the inner voice. After more than four decades of dream research, Herrmann's message is that vocational dreams are the single most important variables in the process of analytic work with patients and readers. Vocational archetypes have a center to them, a nuclear point of contact with the deepest parts of the Self. Some of our deepest motivations are produced by what Herrmann calls nuclear symbols, which are one of the most powerful sources of inspiration we can experience. They are dynamic factors of evolution in the personality, and are sources of centeredness and peace in the psyche and the world. To validate this theory, the author provides a number of examples from anthropological research, including child cases, interviews with young adults, biographies, and clinical vignettes from people in mid-life.Vocational dreams give us trust in our future destinations. They infuse us with purpose, energy, or life-force. This book will show psychotherapists, analysts, parents, teachers, career counselors, anthropologists, vision quest guides, coaches, and others how to recognize and affirm the emergence of calling dreams, which can free us to experience joy and human fulfillment through a process of vocational metamorphosis.Author Bio: Steven Herrmann, Ph.D. MFT is a certified Jungian analyst with a private practice in Oakland, California. He is the author of seven well-received books, including William James and C.G. Jung: Doorways to the Self.
20 Days Changed Everything

Our experiences together continue beyond what we realize here in this limited space and time." Through the monumental task of letting go, a stronger and more divine love was found. It gives us all hope, a reminder that despite the grief of losing a loved one, both lives continue, and our beloveds are always near. We can ask ourselves, are we open to receive them? They are waiting.
Future Tense
A psychologist confronts our pervasive misunderstanding of anxiety and presents a powerful new framework for reimagining and reclaiming the confounding emotion as the advantage it evolved to be.We taught people that anxiety is dangerous and damaging, and that the solution to its pain is to eradicate it like we do any disease--prevent it, avoid it, and stamp it out at all costs. Yet cutting-edge therapies, hundreds of self-help books, and a panoply of medications have failed to keep debilitating anxiety at bay. A third of us will struggle with anxiety disorders in our lifetime and rates in children and adults continue to skyrocket. That's because the anxiety-as-disease story is false--and it's harming us.In this radical reinterpretation, Dr. Tracy Dennis-Tiwary argues that anxiety is an evolved advantage that protects us and strengthens our creative and productive powers. Although it's related to stress and fear, it's uniquely valuable--allowing us to imagine the uncertain future and compelling us to make that future better. That's why anxiety is inextricably linked to hope.By distilling the latest research in psychology and neuroscience, including her own, combining it with real-world stories and personal narrative, Dennis-Tiwary shows how we can acknowledge the discomfort of anxiety and see it as a tool, rather than something to be feared and reviled. Detailing the terrible cost of our misunderstanding of anxiety, while celebrating the lives of people who harness it to their advantage, she argues that we can--and must--learn to be anxious in the right way.Future Tense blazes the way for a paradigm shift in how we relate to and understand anxiety in our day-to-day lives--a fresh set of beliefs and insights that allow us to explore and leverage even very distressing anxiety rather than to be overwhelmed by it. Through this new prism of thinking, even anxiety disorders can be alleviated. Achieving a new mindset will not fix anxiety itself--because the emotion of anxiety is not broken; the way we cope with it is. By challenging our long-held assumptions about anxiety, this book provides a concrete framework for how to reclaim it for what it has always been--a gift rather than a curse, and a source of inner strength, joy, and ingenuity.
Counterfeit Peace
The end of ourselves is a lonely place to be, but it is often where miracles take place. Counterfeit Peace is a story of redemption. Ryan Duerk details the story of his life from childhood, into the ravages of addiction, and ultimately through the front doors of a rescue mission. He describes in intense detail what can happen to a life with no direction. The memoir begins with a brief reflection on the psychological depths and despair of addiction and then moves into a personal account of how his descent into darkness was fueled by trauma, lack of identity, pain, and the endless pursuit of peace by any means necessary. The book attempts to answer the question, "Why do addicts do what they do?" Although painful to read at times, Counterfeit Peace candidly exposes the raw reality of dependence and brokenness. Left with nothing but the air in his lungs, Ryan reaches out for help and finds himself checking into a rescue mission operated by Miracle Hill Ministries in South Carolina. With the nonjudgemental love of a community of believers, Ryan begins the arduous journey toward recovery. He chronicles his "crash course with the Creator" and unpacks the truths he uncovered along the way. Through the boundless grace of God, Ryan responds to a call to ministry and eventually begins helping others just like himself. Through emotional storytelling and profound introspection, Ryan offers a beacon of hope to those grappling with addiction and paints an intimate portrait of what crisis ministry is at Miracle Hill.

The Art of Reasoning
In "Developing Critical Thinking Skills," we explore the foundational aspects and practical strategies to enhance one's critical thinking abilities. Critical thinking, defined as the deliberate process of analyzing, evaluating, and synthesizing information to guide belief and action, comprises key components such as analysis, evaluation, inference, explanation, and self-regulation. The inspiration for this book comes from recognition of the challenges we face in contemporary society. Misinformation spreads rapidly, biases cloud our judgment, and the sheer volume of data can be overwhelming. Yet, amidst these challenges lies an opportunity: the chance to cultivate a disciplined mind capable of discerning truth from falsehood, making informed decisions, and contributing positively to society.

A good life experience is seldom accidental and yet too many people remain trapped with anxiety and depression. Practical milestones are shared to help us journey onwards towards good mental health.Whilst the book is readily accessible its recommendations are backed by a careful exploration of contemporary research.
