The Hospital and its Demands on the Psychologist
Although the hospital is considered a business anywhere in the world, what interests the psychology professional is the object. And in this case, the object is the subject and their subjectivity, their pain, suffering, finitude, the process of terminality or healing, their fears and anxieties; which, on a scale, ends up affecting both the administrative side of a hospital - its costs; and the staff, because patients without psychological care tend to demand more from doctors, technicians, nurses, nutritionists, physiotherapists, etc. It also aims to break the paradigm about the difficulty of inserting psychologists into the hospital environment, to impose respectability on knowledge in the outdated hierarchical chain, to scrutinise the daily dealings with fragile patients and companions, to deal with the dynamic nature of psychology, among many other issues that are equally pertinent to the subject. The main aim of this project is to clarify and demonstrate the urgent and necessary role of psychologists in the hospital environment, and also to share the issues experienced within a referral hospital for the treatment of cancer in adults, where demands emerge uninterruptedly.
Designing with DNA
DNA, the molecule synonymous with life's genetic code, holds a surprising secret: its structure isn't just for information storage, it's also a powerful tool for creating force and building intricate structures. By harnessing the unique properties of single and double-stranded DNA, scientists are venturing into a new frontier - DNA nanotechnology. The Building Blocks: Unpacking DNA's Structure DNA is a double helix, a twisted ladder-like structure formed by two sugar-phosphate backbones linked by complementary nitrogenous base pairs. These pairs, adenine (A) with thymine (T) and guanine (G) with cytosine (C), are the foundation for DNA's information storage. But the specific arrangement of these bases also dictates the molecule's overall shape and flexibility.
From Theory to Practice
Implementing bank filtration (BF) for cleaner drinking water involves translating theoretical knowledge into practical applications. BF utilizes the natural filtering capacity of riverbanks and aquifers to remove contaminants from water. The process begins with selecting suitable sites where geological and hydrological conditions support effective filtration. Detailed assessments of soil composition, water quality, and flow dynamics are crucial in determining the feasibility of BF at a given location. Once a site is selected, infrastructure development includes constructing infiltration galleries or wells to capture filtered water. Monitoring systems are established to ensure consistent water quality, assessing parameters such as turbidity, pathogen levels, and chemical contaminants. Ongoing maintenance involves regular inspection of filtration sites and adjustments based on seasonal changes and environmental factors. Challenges include managing variability in filtration efficiency due to weather conditions and potential land use changes. However, with careful planning and adaptive management, BF can provide a sustainable and cost-effective solution for improving drinking water quality, reducing reliance on chemical treatments, and promoting environmental stewardship.
The Analyst's Analyst
"The second analyst should remember that if his reanalysis yields better results than the first, it is more likely because the patient is a more experienced and better patient than because the analyst is a better analyst."-MILTON H. HOROWITZ, from the conclusion to his seminar on Reanalysis (01/30/2001), Quoted by Herbert Wyman in the Editor's Preface to this volume.MILTON H. HOROWITZ, MD grew up on Pelham Parkway in the Bronx. He hunted rabbits there, back when it was still rural. Educated in the New York City public school system, he had a strong interest in literature, history, and the arts. He attended New York University from the age of 16, where he was manager of the baseball team. He also went to NYU Medical School, where he was the youngest member of this class, and did his residency at NYU.During his long career at the New York Psychoanalytic Society and Institute he was the model of a Supervising and Training Analyst, teacher, mentor, and colleague for more than fifty years. He served as President of the New York Psychoanalytic Society from 1983 to 1985. His renowned therapeutic talent was built upon his brilliant intellect and his constant and sincere question, "How can I be of help?" He was a generous friend and had a funny and telling story for every occasion. The list of his grateful patients and students is long. He died in 2011.
Youth and religion
The aim of this book is to present the various forms of religious elaboration and expression among contemporary young people. Bearing in mind that this historical moment is characterised by a fragmentation, expansion, dissemination and profusion of the religious throughout the world, we see that the current era is marked by the manifestation of a religious syncretism that we are interested in understanding and investigating. This raises questions such as: what is the meaning of these diverse religious manifestations? How do young people justify their beliefs? To what extent are religious practices subject to the strategies of mass culture? In what context can religious practices be understood as modes of social organisation with political intentions defined in terms of a collectivity? Our interest here is not to answer these questions by erecting an ultimate truth on this subject, but rather to expose some possible perspectives of understanding, contrasting views that help us broaden this discussion.
On violence against women
This book is the result of a study whose general objective was to understand the social representation of women participating in the Women's Project in the municipality of Capivari de Baixo - SC (BRAZIL). The research subjects were women participating in a class of the Women's Thousand Project, a federal government project offered by the Federal Institute of Santa Catarina - IFSC, which provides vocational courses for women in social vulnerability. Analysis of the results showed that despite the development of women in search of new knowledge about violence against women, it can be seen that social representation is linked to a social and cultural phenomenon in which women are perceived as guilty of the violence they end up suffering. Some of the women analyzed also showed feelings of fear, guilt, revolt and social isolation in relation to the violence they suffered, despite the fact that the social representation of women is linked to the culture of feminist women.
From violence to peace
This book aims to reflect on the impact of daily violence on a person's life, based on a case study at the S瓊o Paulo Family Therapy Institute. Through the narratives told by the teenager Pedro, of his life permeated by domestic violence, this work draws on the following sources of knowledge: Tibetan Buddhism, and Lama Gangchen Rinpoche's concept of Inner Peace, recent neuroscience studies, and the finding of the effects of violence on brain architecture, systemic relational theory and social constructionism, the theoretical bases of the care in question. The study aims to broaden our view of the urgent need to address the issue of domestic violence as therapists, educators, health professionals and as citizens responsible for building a Culture of Peace.
Strategies for Disposing and Reprocessing Nuclear Fuel Waste
Strategizing the disposal and reprocessing of nuclear fuel waste, focusing on plutonium and americium, involves complex considerations. Disposal strategies emphasize deep geological repositories, where waste can be safely isolated for thousands of years, minimizing environmental impact. Reprocessing techniques recover reusable materials from spent fuel, reducing waste volume and extending resource utilization. However, managing plutonium and americium presents challenges due to their long-lived radiotoxicity, requiring stringent containment measures to prevent environmental contamination and public health risks. Innovative approaches such as transmutation aim to transform long-lived isotopes into shorter-lived or stable elements, further reducing the hazardous nature of nuclear waste. International collaboration and regulatory frameworks play crucial roles in ensuring safety and compliance throughout these processes. By integrating these strategies, stakeholders can enhance sustainability, minimize waste volumes, and mitigate the long-term impacts of nuclear fuel waste containing plutonium and americium on both present and future generations.
Little Pat
"This book offers a compelling analysis of a landmark murder trial in England, where a death sentence of a serving army soldier was one of the first to be commuted to imprisonment on mental health grounds by Winston Churchill's Home Secretary. It also tells the heart-warming story of a local man's determination eighty years on to honour the memory of the victim, a little girl named Pat, leading to her previously unmarked grave finally being adorned with a headstone." - Nathan James1940s rural East Anglia. An evacuee walking through parkland to school. A soldier working in a nearby forest. War brought them together. Yet, so violent was the encounter, the evacuee stood no chance and New Scotland Yard were called in to investigate her murder. The attacker, a troubled soul, who grew up bullying little girls, should have been inside borstal at the time of the attack. Yet, war offered an opportunity for his early release and the chance encounter with the evacuee. His subsequent trial at the Old Bailey reached into the upper echelons of Winston Churchill's government, with the Home Secretary getting dragged in.This book tells the true story of the Riddlesworth evacuee murder of 1942. It takes a balanced look at those involved; in the hope the reader brings their own conclusion as to whether the ultimate punishment was just. Newspapers across the nation updated their readers about the case, from investigation, to confession, to trial sentencing. Yet today, this story is largely forgotten, as is the victim.
No Will Set You Free
Break the habit of saying yes with these life-changing practices by Michael J. Tougais, New York Times bestseller author of The Finest Hours, which went on to become a popular and critically acclaimed film.
Virtues and the moral development of adolescents
In this work, the author seeks to analyze the construction of the adolescent's personality from the point of view of moral development and virtues. To this end, he chooses the cartoon Dragon's Cave as his object of study, looking for elements in the actions and situations experienced by its characters that can help him understand. The cartoon, which was a worldwide hit for decades, appears as a backdrop for this adventure of courage, justice and generosity, based on theorists such as Piaget, Kohlberg, Gilligan and Eisenberg and described here as an odyssey of human development. We hope you enjoy reading it!
The Meanings of Working in Precarious Conditions
This manuscript presents the results of ethnographic research carried out with the Largo da Ordem market traders in the city of Curitiba, Paran獺/Brazil. This research was carried out under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Suzana da Rosa Tolfo (co-author of this book). It is aimed at students, teachers and researchers interested in the subject and in the area of work. It should be noted that the issue of job insecurity is a reality experienced by many workers in various sectors and places around the world, resulting in negative impacts on their health. But what can we psychologists and professionals in the field of work do to mitigate these impacts and improve the health of these workers?

Paths to Vocational and Psychological Maturity
While many studies find the source of such a painful situation in the crisis of the priestly vocation, others suggest rather the lack of "psychological and affective maturity" as the source of such sexual abuse in the Church. Our work aims to define the concept of psychological and affective maturity, highlighting its importance in the formation of priestly candidates in times of vocational crisis. Based on the effectiveness of narrative therapy, we propose a program designed to help seminarians, their families and their trainers to recognize the roots of the problem, and to deconstruct the dominant narratives filled with erroneous thought patterns that fuel such abuse. The aim of this book is for future priests to take ownership of their own life story and vocation, so that they can be free and joyful in their relationships with others, and truly responsible in God's service.
Examining the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on mental health in adolescents
Bachelor Thesis from the year 2023 in the subject Psychology - Miscellaneous, University of South Australia, language: English, abstract: This study contributes to the expanding body of research on the psychological impacts of pandemic-related restrictions by investigating the effects of lockdowns on the mood of young and older adolescents. Employing a moderation-mediation analysis framework, we explore how social support and coping strategies mediate and moderate the relationships between lockdown duration and mood, while controlling for socioeconomic status (SES). Our findings reveal intriguing distinctions between the two age groups. For younger adolescents (12-14 years), coping significantly moderates the relationship between lockdown and social support. However, social support does not mediate the lockdown-mood link for this age group. Contrarily, for older adolescents (15-18 years), social support emerges as a significant mediator of the lockdown-mood relationship, albeit with no significant moderation by coping. These results emphasize the importance of tailored interventions and support systems for distinct adolescent age groups during pandemic-related restrictions.

There is no timetable for life. Timetables are for classrooms, not for people.' Gender-based violence and mental health
This book aims to discuss the intersection between two complex areas for the human sciences: violence against women and women's illness. Through access to a support centre for women in situations of violence, it was possible to address these issues by considering the various actors involved. These include the management of the centre, the professionals involved and, of course, the cases attended by the service in which this relationship is present.
Psyche
Peter Zagermann derives psychic structure formation and pathogenesis from perception and understands the psyche as a self-organizing system, which has important consequences for the understanding of both normal as well as pathological development. In addition to the well-known phases of psychosexuality and the infantile paranoid-schizoid and depressive positions of object constitution, he introduces an initial pre-schizoid phase of psychogenesis in which the object cannot yet be split, the categories of space and time are not yet developed, and the object is, therefore, not yet experienced as a body. Immediate sensoriality is the governing principle of this pre-schizoid phase.
Mind Training
"I am often skeptical when considering reading a self-help book about how to train your brain. Most are trite and devoid of science. Mind Training does an excellent job of blending psychology and brain science, in an easily readable fashion, making real change possible." Larry D. Rosen, Professor Emeritus at California State UniversityMind Training-the art of tweaking formerly subconscious brain processes to eliminate self-destructive behaviors, enhance health and vitality, and supercharge success potential. We know that exercising regularly will bring numerous benefits, from improved health and wellness to enhanced creativity, but most do not know that training the mind will bring a host of benefits too.Mind Training examines how the brain works, including how it can create mechanical like habits, employ self-destructive behaviors, reward failure and more. It shows how consciousness is built upon unconscious processes and the kind of impact this can have. This mind exploration is carried out with a keen focus on how this information can be used to improve the quality of life by maximizing natural talents and abilities.Mind Training presents a way of life that promotes a process of conscious living. Having an awareness of the 'whys' behind some of our behaviors will reduce many of the self-destructive patterns that all of us are subject to in certain areas of our lives. Understanding some of our brain chemistry mechanisms allows us to take some manual control to increase our successes and overall feelings of well-being. Discovering some of the automatic mind mechanisms makes it possible to offset the ability for others to exploit them.Life educates your mind to accept less, thereby limiting and defining you. You can do it better. Drawing on over 200 solid scientific studies, Mind Training is the self-help workout regimen that will enhance every corner of your life.Areas examined include Psychology, Self-Help, Self-Actualization, Self-Sabotage, Personal Power, Subliminal, Hypnosis, Meditation, Mindfulness, Affirmations, Happy Brain Chemicals, Illusions, Pygmalion Effect, Optimism vs Pessimism, Gratitude, and Spirituality."If you want to get beyond wishy-washy feel goodism in your quest for insightful, self-determining, and authentic living, and if you seriously wish to enhance your life in a practical way informed by science-based principles, then this book is for you!" Anthony Falikowski, author of Higher Reality Therapy and Experiencing Philosophy.
Jung vs Borg
"Posthumanism already permeates our lives and has begun directing the way of the world. . . . we are ill-prepared for the implications . . ."In Jung vs. Borg Glen Slater argues the industrial disruption of the outer world is being followed by a post-industrial disruption of the inner world, resulting in a different order of existential crisis, making the collapse of global ecosystems look like a warm-up act. The main event, beginning with the psycho-social fragmentation of the digital age, appears to be the collapse of our ecology of mind. As he explores critical precursors of this phenomenon and shows how this crisis will accelerate through the attempt to merge human and machine, Slater demonstrates how the psychology of the unconscious, born in the shadow of the Industrial Revolution, can be deployed as a counter-measure.Facing this technologically-induced fragmentation of the human psyche presents a profound challenge. The way of the world is now mostly fused with the way of technology. A global technocracy supporting a mass migration into cyberspace transcends the power of any individual government or corporation. The technoscience at the core of this technocracy eyes a posthuman future, with the figure of the cyborg already visible on the horizon. A conspicuous image of our becoming, the cyborg essentializes the extrapolation of technocratic trends, making it a primary target for depth psychological analysis. Although the bedrock of being is about to be deeply shaken, there is terrain to traverse before we hardwire our minds to computers and become fully biomechanical. Much depends on our capacity to remain conscious of the effect each stage of innovation has on the psyche and on the social and cultural changes that will follow. It is right here we may juxtapose the exploitation of the inner world and the preservation of its integrity, which is set out in the psychology of C. G. Jung. It is in Jung's psychology we find the crux of a countercultural turn to the holistic character of the deeply human.
Jonah & the Bathtub
After surviving his suicide attempt, the author had a profound spiritual experience of rebirth by God's mercy. This experience is portrayed using allegory, which captures this difficult journey in vivid, prophetic allusions. The story is dark, but ushers in God's great hope, and emphasizes our calling to persevere and trust in his love.
Sadomasochism in contemporary society
Sadomasochism has a complex conceptualisation that is difficult to use in psychiatry, and is even divided into sadism and masochism. However, understanding the concept of sadomasochism in psychoanalytic literature allows us to understand the relationships of pleasure and pain in subjects and imputed to others, beyond the world of purely sexual relationships, which we conceptualise as Social Sadomasochism. Pleasure is not only present in the arena of sexuality, which calls us to study and understand the multiple forms, acts and even crimes that are so accentuated in contemporary societies as forms of experiencing sadomasochism today, a discussion that leads us to identify how sadomasochism reinforces the desire and pleasure of killing, torturing and imputing suffering to others. We discussed this based on psychoanalytic knowledge in the clinic in relation to perversion and also by observing multiple cruel forms of treatment in society, as well as contact with inmates in a prison in the interior of Pernambuco, accused of murder, necrophilia, cannibalism, paedophilia, theft and drug trafficking, seeking to make a biographical survey of their childhoods.

Mental health counselling in primary health care
This book is the result of a bibliographical survey that sought to discuss the role of the psychologist in the development of matrix support actions in primary health care involving mental health services. Its objectives are to discuss the emergence of the Unified Health System, to understand the implementation of the Family Health Programmes, to analyse the link between primary care and mental health substitute services, to understand what mental health matrix support is: its proposals and challenges and, finally, to describe the role of the psychologist in developing mental health matrix support actions in primary health care. As a result, it can be seen that there are many difficulties in implementing the matrix support model in Primary Health Care Units, but this model can be a tool for the potential development of actions that contribute to health promotion and especially to the reintegration of people with mental suffering into the community context; and here the psychologist has a lot to offer, requiring adequate training for this professional, focused on public policies and this new way of producing health.
The relationship between skin color and beauty in Mozambique
This book is a work of scientific popularization, based on research carried out in Mozambique (2008) on the impact of skin color on the appreciation of physical beauty. The dissemination of the results of this research was accompanied by a vast debate in the local media (television, radio, newspapers) and a great deal of controversy broke out at the time. The interest, debate and controversy sparked by this research are probably linked to the fact that this subject touches on the national "collective unconscious" underlying the effects of Portuguese colonization. Thus, this book, while reporting on the research in question, portrays the public debate that took place around it.

Psychocorrection Work with Low-assistant Students
The peculiarity of psychocorrection work with low-achieving students is that education and training are of great importance in the fields of psychology. Each student acquires knowledge as a unique, individual process. Some students absorb educational materials and information quickly and easily, while others face difficulties for various reasons. This type of students needs special pedagogical and psychological approaches. Psychocorrection work increases the educational success of these children by increasing their adaptation to the educational process, strengthening their self-confidence and improving their social adjustment. At the same time, this problem is very relevant not only for educational institutions, but also for the psychological community, because it is very important to ensure equal opportunities for students in education and to encourage their full participation in society.
Life in a New Language
International migration and the social diversity it creates constitute one of the key global challenges of the early 21st century. Language and communication barriers can compromise equitable access in diverse societies, and where socioeconomic disadvantage becomes entrenched, it poses risks to security, productivity and quality of life. Clearly this is an important issue, and migrants and their language choices are heavily politicized; though political and media debates often rely on anecdotal conjecture or are ill-informed. Life in a New Language examines the language learning and settlement experiences of 130 migrants to Australia from 34 different countries in Africa, Asia, Europe, and Latin America over a period of 20 years. Reusing data shared from six separate sociolinguistic ethnographies, the book illuminates participants' lived experience of learning and communicating in a new language, finding work, and doing family. Additionally, participants' experiences with racism and identity making in a new context are explored. The research uncovers significant hardship but also migrants' courage and resilience. The book has implications for language service provision, migration policy, open science, and social justice movements.
Edge of Catastrophe
Erich Fromm, the prominent twentieth-century public intellectual and psychoanalyst, was recognized for his courageous stand against fascism, racism, and human destructiveness. Until now, however, little has been known about the extent to which Fromm's personal experience of Nazi Germany and the Holocaust shaped his outlook and work. In Edge of Catastrophe, Roger Frie introduces for the first time the unpublished Holocaust correspondence in Fromm's family. The letters provide insight into Fromm's life as a German-Jewish refugee and help us to understand the effect of Nazi Germany's racial terror on Fromm and his German-Jewish family. In the aftermath of the genocide, Fromm returned again and again to the themes of responsibility, social justice, and human solidarity, yet without revealing his own experience. As this book powerfully shows, Fromm's social, political, and psychological writings take on new meaning in light of the traumas and tragedies that he and his family experienced. The image of Fromm that emerges from this book enriches our understanding of what it means to be both a social critic and practicing psychologist. In light of the racial hatred and antisemitism we see today, Frie demonstrates that a politics of engagement and a psychology of well-being go hand in hand. Frie suggests that there is much to be learned from the urgency in Fromm's writings as we seek to respond to the social crises and the renewed threat of fascism in our present age.

Did You Know Your Diagnosis Is Bullshit? (a how-to guide to diagnosing with kindness)
An Unvarnished Book (what's in it for you . . . ?)A Few Words From a "Still Becoming Human" AuthorBased on this book's title, I imagine, many professionals will pass on it. When I think about them doing this, I feel surprised by my near-total lack of concern. I've purposely chosen this title in hopes I'll pique the interests of people who value being human more than being professional. No coincidence, this includes me and my many colleagues, most of whom have spent whole lives helping people.Know I count among my colleagues warm-hearted grandmas and new mothers, many of whom function as the family diagnostician. If any of this fits you, then you are definitely in the right place-especially if you've wanted to call "bullshit" on the things many so-called professionals claim to know about you and those you love. I know I have.In truth, if you've made it this far, I'm quite sure you've felt this way many times. Please (mad author shouting to the heavens), how about some chicken soup for the soul, rather than more chicken shit for the mind. This said, I would not expect you to read much further without me giving you the five-cent tour. What will this book do for you? What's in it for your patients? This is what I'm about to tell you.Everyone Diagnoses-Some of Us Do It ProfessionallyLet's begin with this book's main point-that almost everyone alive diagnoses. Sadly, despite the word "manual" in the titles of existing diagnostic manuals, as of today, we have had no manual to guide us. Until now. This book is a no-bullshit book about diagnosis.
Healing yourself through Word Pain Writing
How to explore your experiences, transform your emotions into meaningful stories and find healing through words. The C.A.S. "Create, Learn, Heal" concept is the fusion of Expressive and Literary Writing. This "Creative Narratherapy" or written exposure therapy is a revolutionary method combining expressive writing (expressing emotions) and literary creativity (storytelling). The healing power of expressive writing (verbalizing), combined with the cathartic benefits of literary writing (analyzing), enables the transformation of emotion/pain into narrative, and helps overcome psychological obstacles.
Racism's Impact on African American Fathers' Well-being
Title: "Navigating Challenges: A Comprehensive Study of Racial Discrimination's Impact on African American Fathers' Mental Health and Parenting Satisfaction in Contemporary Germany" Description: This groundbreaking mixed methods study offers a comprehensive exploration of the profound effects of racial discrimination on African American fathers in Germany. Drawing on a rigorous combination of quantitative data and qualitative narratives, the book delves deeply into how these fathers navigate societal biases and the far-reaching implications for their mental health and satisfaction with parenting. Through personal accounts and statistical insights, it uncovers the complexities faced by African American fathers, shedding light on their resilience, coping strategies, and the broader societal contexts that shape their lives. This research is essential reading for scholars, policymakers, and practitioners seeking to understand the nuanced intersection of race, mental health, and fatherhood within the unique socio-cultural landscape of contemporary Germany. By highlighting these experiences, the study contributes valuable perspectives to ongoing discussions on diversity, equity, and inclusion in both academic and practical contexts.
Wilhelm Reich versus the Flying Saucers
The convenient myth of Wilhelm Reich is that he "lost his mind" in the early 1950s, if not before, and that the last seven years of his life and work - the orgone and radiation experiments, the cloudbuster, and flying saucer intrigues - present an embarrassment. Even the counterculture that embraced Reich, not least William S. Burroughs, Norman Mailer, and filmmaker Dusan Makavejev, tended to distort his theory. The psychosis attached to Reich by his detractors was the culmination of decades of scapegoating by psychoanalysts, Nazis, communists, and conservatives. But Reich's environmental and Cold War preoccupations and his slow-burning fascination with UFO phenomena were not signs of a madness incipient since his break with Sigmund Freud. They anticipated and reflected much in the American psyche.Defining the presence of a "cinematic self" in the misunderstood analyst once considered an heir to Freud, Wilhelm Reich versus the Flying Saucers rejects orthodox portrayals of Reich's final years as merely pathological. Combining original analysis and evidence from the Wilhelm Reich Archive, James Reich uncovers the fatal moments in the psychologist's uncanny identification with the "spaceman," and the myth of a scientist lost to his own grandiosity and paranoia. Taking seriously the influence of The Day the Earth Stood Still, Bad Day at Black Rock, and other pop cultural narratives on Reich, this "psychoanalytic detective story" concerns existential traps, conscious and unconscious collaborations and betrayals by disciples, and unidentified flying object-relations. Reich's is an atomic-age passion narrative. Vitally, Reich's story could be ours. The author is not related to his subject. James Reich is a novelist, essayist, and journalist. He is the author of The Moth for the Star (7.13 Books, 2023), The Song My Enemies Sing (Anti-Oedipus, 2018), Soft Invasions (Anti-Oedipus, 2017), Mistah Kurtz! A Prelude to Heart of Darkness (Anti-Oedipus, 2016), I, Judas (Soft Skull, 2011), and Bombshell (Soft Skull, 2013). His account of innovations in British science fiction is published by Bloomsbury in its "Decades" series, The 1960s. His nonfiction has also appeared in Salon, SPIN Magazine, The Huffington Post, International Times, and other literary and cultural publications. Reich was born in Stroud, Gloucestershire in the West of England, and has been a resident of Santa Fe, New Mexico since 2009. He was greatly influenced by early exposure to the poetry of Dylan Thomas, and by a small book on dadaism, and later by Andy Warhol, the Beats, science fiction, psychoanalysis, punk rock, and the films of Ken Russell and Nic Roeg. Norman Mailer, Sylvia Plath, J.G. Ballard, Anne Sexton, Paul Bowles, D.H. Lawrence, and Lars von Trier are also vital constellations in his work. He has a Master's degree in Ecopsychology from Naropa University.

Fear/Less
In ancient times, our ancestors begged the gods for mercy as a solar eclipse occurred; they saw it as a sign of divine wrath. In the 19th century, trains and electricity sparked widespread fear of gruesome tragedies. New Yorkers predicted they would drown in manure as transportation by horse became common. We look back in amusement, but they thought the end was near. What do we fear today? Climate change, overpopulation, artificial intelligence, nuclear power, depletion of natural resources, the apocalypse as described in the Bible. And that's just the beginning, with myriad other sources of high anxiety coming out of knowledge deficits and conspiracy theories. Even though humans have solved problem after problem, averting the obliteration of the species, it is still widely believed that catastrophe is almost inevitable. Will there ever come a moment when we stop being unnecessarily afraid and treat successive threats as challenges rather than reasons to fear? What will the future bring? Do we really need to be afraid? Wojciech Janicki, the editor and chief author of the book, is a Polish scientist and a professor at the University of Maria Curie-Sklodowska in Lublin. His research focuses on contemporary social, demographic and economic processes, with a focus on political geography. He actively popularizes science through handbooks, public lectures, TV & radio interviews and podcasts. He always tries to see that the glass is half full.
