An exploration of psychotraumatic experiences in southern Benin reveals certain particularities in the way psychic suffering is expressed. Most traumatized women's discourses are strongly imbued with persecutory interpretations and religious or mystical themes. Representations of the traumatic event influence the frequency of symptoms such as guilt, suicidal ideation and nightmare content. These representations determine the victims' therapeutic itinerary. In addition, beyond personal resources, social support as manifested in the local context, conjuration rituals, expiatory ceremonies, amulets, collective rituals to appease the spirits of the deceased and traditional therapeutic practices help to alleviate victims' psychological distress and strengthen their resilience. This research, which has led to an attempt at a cultural theorization of psychological trauma, presents practitioners with the challenge of developing a diagnostic tool and therapeutic approach that draw on local cultural realities.

Although there has been a reduction in alcohol consumption over the years, Portugal is among the ten European countries that consume the most alcohol per person, and is above the European average (WHO, 2014). It is estimated that there are around seven hundred and forty thousand people who consume alcohol to excess and five hundred thousand who are dependent on alcoholic beverages (WHO, 2005). Understanding the factors that may contribute to alcohol consumption is an important area of research. Psychological factors include personality and emotional regulation. A better understanding of the relationship between Emotional Regulation difficulties and Personality traits in alcohol consumption could be useful for intervening to prevent and change this behavior.

In this study, we proposed that the interlocution of Neuropsychology with Work Psychology in the clinical management of the emotional processing of subjects affected by Burnout Syndrome emerges from the confluence of models for assessing cognitive processes, the three-segment model correlated with Selvye's (1946) phases of stress, McLean's (1949) Triune Brain, the variables of the Maslach Burnout Inventory (1986) and adaptive physiological responses to stressors (Darwin, 1872).

Chronic renal failure is a pathology characterised by various bodily, emotional and social changes. It commonly affects the individual's self-image, as there are significant alterations in the field of sexuality, work life and leisure, thus damaging their interrelationships. Haemodialysis treatment has an even greater impact in middle adulthood, because at this stage, issues relating to development and finitude are very present and the individual's body is already declining in efficiency. In this context, existential psychology provides theoretical support for understanding man and his relationship with the environment, based on basic concepts such as existence, death, loneliness, existential boredom, anguish, guilt, freedom, authenticity, the meaning of life, transcendence, love and happiness. These are themes that often permeate individuals' thoughts and can be worked on through reflection in a group setting, with the aim of helping a greater number of patients to adhere to haemodialysis treatment.
Children and Young People in Danger
This study was carried out at the Commission for the Protection of Children and Young People in Danger. In order to better understand the phenomenon of child violence, which is the most common case and the focus of the Commission, we will refer to and clarify in this study some questions such as: Does the repercussion of marital conflicts lead to traumatized, angry children or children with difficulties in performance and school failure? Can physical and psychological abuse have consequences for the cognitive, affective and social development of children/adolescents? Child violence can have serious implications for a child's development, sometimes leading to death or serious injury. In some cases, the effects are more hidden, where the violence has a greater impact on the child's health and learning. In this study, we will try to get to know the institution, the projects that have been developed, and all the areas of intervention. We will also present the theoretical background to the problems, as well as all the activities carried out throughout the work.
Anorexia and the Other
The purpose of this book is to analyse the particularities of the relationship that the subject establishes with the Other and with desire in anorexia. We have chosen to deal with anorexia exclusively in its occurrence in the hysterical structure, which implies for us a specific direction for the theme. The Other, as conceived by the anorexic, is a capricious, omnipotent Other, therefore, an Other that is not barred in its desire. This Other lacks nothing, and when asked for it at the level of demand, it can only respond with what it has, stuffing itself with a suffocating diet. It is an Other to which the anorexic is radically subject. That's why the anorexic makes every effort to establish a manoeuvre of separation, in which she tries to impute a lack to the Other through her eating nothing, so that the Other presents itself as desirous. Finally, she is authorised to also desire, because it is the position of desiring that is at stake in anorexia. A paradoxical position, of course, which we will try to highlight through the tragic heroes, Oedipus and Antigone.

Maladaptive Initial Schema Formation
This book presents research carried out with children aged 4 to 5 on the influence of the family and the school on the formation of maladaptive schemas that generate behavioural problems. The research used questionnaires, interviews and systematic observation in the school environment, looking at three aspects: the role of the family, the role of the school and the strategies used by teachers in the classroom. Based on Jeffrey Young's theory of Initial Maladaptive Schemas, the data obtained from the questionnaires applied to families and teachers, interviews with them and notes taken during the research period in the schools are analysed. This study proves that: 1. negative parenting practices can lead to the formation of maladaptive schemas, which vary according to the child's gender; 2. the parents'/guardians' level of education and family income can influence the formation of specific schemas; 3. appropriate action by teachers can reduce or even extinguish the schemas that are being formed. The passion for psychology involved a dilemma: how to do scientific research work geared towards social practicality? Well, because I was studying in one country (on one continent) and working in another, this was a very sensitive issue.
