Investigating the Stanford Prison Experiment
In 1971, psychologist Philip Zimbardo ran the now famous Stanford prison experiment to show that prison could make normal people behave in pathological ways. Based on the first thorough investigation in the archives of the experiment and on interviews with about half of its participants, this book shows that the Stanford prison experiment is far from being scientific. In particular, the guards knew what results were expected from them, they were trained and supervised by the experimenters, and they were following a schedule and a set of rules written by the experimenters. The experimenters deceived the guards and made them believe they were not subjects. They also borrowed many elements from a previous student experiment without disclosing this information in their reports. The prisoners were not allowed to leave the experiment at will, and they were conditioned by the experimenters. The mock prison situation was unrealistic. Most participants did not forget they were participating in an experiment, and many responded to demand characteristics. The data was not collected properly. And the conclusions were pre-written according to non-academic aims. This book goes beyond the experiment to provide ample background and context, in order to understand how the experiment was planned, financed, recorded, and divulged in the press and within the academic. It discusses also the role played by Philip Zimbardo in the trial of one of the guards of Abu Ghraib, as well as the impact of mass media on science, the debates between personal psychology and social psychology, and the specific nature of cold war social science.
Being Found
The goal of the therapist is to find the child. When we have found the child, the child has also made an attempt at being seen. So there we are, face to face with the obstacles and disturbances between us. The child has made some kind of meaning-filled decision to come out and find us. In this space between, this joint, we are charged with holding still and listening for the many forms of nonverbal language the child may use to speak about their hurt. Premature efforts on our part may add static that pushes the child back, away from us. We will be tested in similar ways that the infant needed to test the integrity of an adult, when they cried out with their sharp and sudden needs. This book explores when something has gone wrong. But more so, ultimately it is about righting the relationship through the same trust the child requires at birth. When harm has occurred, the psyche endeavors to defend the self from annihilation by concealing it for the sake of protection within deep unconscious regions of the psyche. In this hidden place, the child suffers somatically and emotionally until the lost aspects can be safely found and re-embodied. In this, the child and the therapist enlist a third entity, the Us in the relationship, to reclaim lost aspects of psyche, or Self. Several chapters explore what us means to the child, with the child's expressions revealing this need for mutuality. Post Traumatic Growth
This book is an account of the journey following encounters of trauma and taking steps towards personal growth. I served in the Canadian Armed Forces for 12 years, with 5 years serving as a Close Protection Operator undertaking multiple operations in high-conflict environments - both domestically and overseas. Having completed these missions, I witnessed first-hand the damages of war and have experienced the consequences of combat. This is a tale of torment and tribulation but is also the story of reparation and recovery. A story of surviving trauma and overcoming the wounds war inflicted upon my mind. Within this book, you will read about these traumas. Personal crises and living in a state of mind that is unwell will be shared. The approach to conquering my personal mental health struggles was multi-faceted, and details of this journey will be disclosed in order to hopefully empower others to take the first step in their own recovery. Things such as various treatment styles, inter-personal connections and the accidental introduction to Equine Therapy were all supports to becoming a healthier me. It is my hope that through sharing the intricacies of what I faced, and how I committed to treatment to find meaning, purpose, and strength once again, will help others rediscover their own fortitude, resilience and resolve as they endeavour into the emotional trenches of recovery and emerge healthier, happier, and having taken their own steps towards Post Traumatic Growth.
Depression - There's Someone In My Head But it's Not Me
A journey through life from early years to present day, however since written more events have occurred, who knows could be enough material for book two. Upon reading you might have the thinking of "this is fiction ", I kid you not, everything that you read has occurred and the struggles have and in some cases still carrying on. Any names that appear have been changed, there's no blame game, well there is but that's my demons and only people that have been involved in situations might know it's them I'm writing about. The book is a mix up of an autobiography and a journal of my life, it has a very dark and morbid in parts persona, thoughts of suicide and ending of life are mentioned, It's my views on these subjects and In no way that I would suggest someone should think about taken this sort of action . The subject and title of this book may seem of a serious medical condition, and I guess it is, however, it's mentioned in the book that I don't want the whole world knowing my business, I will, and have dealt with this condition in my own way . Although it's been suggested that I should seek medical advice, I have dealt with it my own way and have a strong feeling that once the medics get involved, I will either be in and out of therapy or hooked on some mind bending drug, well my view is that "Pills don't pay bills". My life today, in the present time frame, is far better than when I was thinking about writing this book. I have my family, my loving wife, My son, my parents are still with us, my health is pretty good, money is tight but then I have had that all my life . Work is good and really I don't want for much, there are people a lot worse off than me. I have a moany grumpy side and that seems to be more present than a happy jolly person that's locked away inside me. A wise man once said," you make your bed, you lay in it", that was my father in law, he's truly missed as is my mother in law, another saying that sticks in my mind is, " Live for the now, enjoy what you have, you can't take it with you when you go ", Very wise words . Enjoy my book.

Motor inability does not interfere with the interpretation of Scrabble
This study aims to interpret projections in the form of scribbles, recorded by children aged 3 to 4, using a school environment. Its aim is to show that reading scribbles is possible as an instrument for analysing affections, and that motor inability in this age group does not prevent interpretation. It uses the meanings of Wartegg Biedma's traits. The psychoanalytic theory applied was based on Winnicott's theory. This research also looked for confluent points about the mechanisms of projection in other scientists cited. The data was collected in a public school in the city of Monte Carmelo, M.G. The qualitative research was documentary, bibliographical, with field observation, anamnesis with parents and interviews with teachers. This topic will contribute to research material for health and education professionals, as it deals with and understands children's emotional development in its conflicts. The problematic question of the research involved the reading of children's scribbles, without shapes, only scribbles, with an in-depth study of the theories of the scientists mentioned. It was found that there is a balance of "obj
Cognitive distortions and gambling addiction
The choice of this study was based on the observation that young students in schools have an excessive craze for gambling, a practice that is in vogue in the majority of cities in our country. The fact lies in this that these young people strongly believe in false ideas (cognitive distortions) according to which making a maximum amount of money easily after a bet is very obvious. The main objective of this work is to highlight the link that exists between cognitive distortions and the practice of gambling among young students. A study using a self-administered questionnaire was used to collect the data. SPSS 20 software allowed us to analyze the data. The Pearson correlational descriptive test was carried out to analyze the data from 112 students at the Nkolbikon Technical High School. Our results show that: the illusion of control is positively linked to the practice of games of chance and money (JHA) among young students, with a correlation coefficient of r = 0.37 and p = 0.01.
Understanding Sexual Serial Killing
Why do some people engage in serial killing for sexual pleasure? This book considers the phenomenon of sexual serial killing from the perspective of motivation theory, as advanced in psychology and neuroscience. By examining biological, psychological and social determinants, it develops a model of sexual killing that integrates widely dispersed existing literature. The first part of the book reviews scientific data and theories, while the second part presents biographical sketches of 80 sexual killers and links their early development and later killing to current theoretical understanding. The book examines cases of serial killers from the USA, Western Europe, Iran, Australia and South Africa, and it also includes an account of killers from the USSR, made available to non-Russian speakers for the first time. Deliberately written to avoid jargon, Understanding Sexual Serial Killing is accessible to students, scholars and professionals across psychology, sociology, forensic science and law.
Being a woman and being a mum
The territory of assisted reproduction is fertile ground for subjective projects, involving constructions of motherhood and family for both patients and professionals. Constructions about the unspeakable of the feminine that unfold. With reproductive medicine, procreation has been separated from sex and the desire for pregnancy does not translate or equate to the desire to have a child. Motherhood tends to be idealised by women who share in their discourses the subjectively internalised mothers through traits that are particular to each one. The multifaceted fragmentation present in motherhood goes hand in hand with the difficulty of dealing with being a woman, with the feminine that cannot be represented by either women or men. The psychoanalytic reading of Repeat Gestational Loss (RPL), one of the diagnoses of women monitored by reproductive medicine, and of "Tender Loving Care" (TLC), the care recommended by evidence-based medicine for such women, highlights central elements of the interviews. Each woman, continually mobilised by the task of building herself up, turns an immense gear of care and technique around her.
Natural Behavior
Natural Behavior, Volume 66 highlights new advances in the field, with this new volume presenting interesting chapters written by an international board of authors. There is a long history of studying natural behavior in science. In 1872, Charles Darwin documented his observations on the development of his children in words, which was published in an article titled "A Biographical Sketch of an Infant." Traditionally, observational studies like this had been viewed as insightful but also criticized as not objective and quantitative. More recently, building on advanced computation, the contemporary approaches to studying natural behavior in the real world delivered quantitative results. New sensing and wearable technologies allow researchers to collect high-density data in everyday contexts. With technological advances, we can scale up and obtain quantitative results from real-world data. This volume contains a collection of papers on studying natural behavior of child development. Those papers aim at understanding and predicting behavior and cognition as it occurs within complex real-world situations. Compared with findings from laboratories, the results derived from natural behavior are remarkably reliable, which provides an answer to the reproducibility crisis in science. Moreover, the findings based on natural behavior can be directly applied to the real world, especially in the health and education domains.

Freud and the Problem of Sexuality
While contemporary studies have paid renewed attention to the psychoanalytic theory of sexuality and routinely reference Sigmund Freud, they seldom engage directly with his work. Freud and the Problem of Sexuality returns to Freud's writings to argue that there is still something revolutionary and novel to be found there--something that will come to challenge both philosophical and popular understandings of sexuality. In lively, accessible prose, Bradley Ramos revisits some of the most difficult, even troubling aspects of Freud's work and sheds fresh light on foundational concepts such as Trieb (drive or instinct), perversion, infantile sexuality, and the Oedipus complex. Reading Freud alongside Jean Laplanche, Louis Althusser, and Jacques Derrida, we can begin to see why sexuality becomes for us, as it did for Freud, a problem in and by its nature. However, to take this problem of sexuality seriously, Ramos argues, we must dare to do what most refuse: renounce our persistent fantasies and assumptions about sexuality.
Unfailing Love
Georgia's new husband began acting strangely on their honeymoon. Then he started controlling every aspect of her life and cutting her off from her family and friends. Forbidden to finish her last quarter of university or even play and sing at her beloved piano, she learned to lean deeply on God as she raised their two young sons in this dark environment. The bizarre behavior escalated into mental and physical abuse, and her husband was often hospitalized after being diagnosed first with manic depression, then schizophrenia. Georgia shares her story of hard-won truths learned in seven years of isolation and control. When times were at their worst and she feared for her safety, she battled in prayer and worship. The practice of continual forgiveness set her free and gave her a song in her heart. While this is a story of leaning into God in the midst of deep trials, it is also a story of a new love found. Those going through hard times in a relationship, or who have family members or friends suffering with mental illness, will be encouraged by this true personal account of a woman who learned to walk with God in the midst of her trials. We don't need to remain victims of our circumstances but can learn from them and flourish in freedom and faith instead. -Georgia Morris
Violence as a cause of trauma
Human history has always been characterized by violence, and people are still helplessly at its mercy today. Acts of violence often lead to trauma-related disorders - traumas experienced in childhood in particular have a serious impact. An important contribution to combating this is to raise society's awareness of acts of violence and not to tacitly accept them. This applies in particular to abuse in the home. Violence is not a private matter, no matter where it takes place. The question arises as to the actual social acceptance of assaults and how the criminal relevance of physical, sexual and psychological violence is assessed - this is particularly difficult in the case of psychological violence. Psychologist Sonja Gehard attempts to clarify this and other questions in her academic work. In an empirical study, she examines how individuals assess their experiences of violence and how aware they are of whether or not they are criminal offenses. Particular attention is paid to the consequences for mental health and the resulting everyday problems.

Collected Writings of Giles Clark
This timeless and thought-provoking volume makes available the collected writings of Giles Clark (1947-2019), whose original clinical theory constitutes a major contribution to the areas of analytical psychology, psychoanalysis and philosophy. Clark's work influenced generations of analytical psychologists, psychoanalytic psychotherapists and trainees in England, Australia and elsewhere. His oeuvre covers important themes such as psychoanalysis as a deeply relational, mutually transformative and intersubjective endeavor; how, as wounded healers, analysts learn the art of recycling their own madness so as better to assist their patients; the clinical treatment of borderline and narcissistic disturbances and personality disorders; and psychosomatic issues as manifest and experienced in transference and countertransference relations in the analytic field. The book also explores the relevance of Spinoza, Santayana, Jung and German Romantic philosophers to analytical psychology and psychoanalysis, not merely in historical or theoretical terms but as a vital resource to guide clinical practice as demonstrated through a series of compelling case studies. The Collected Writings of Giles Clark is of great interest to Jungian analysts, analytical psychologists and psychotherapists in practice and in training, as well as anyone interested in understanding the interface between depth psychology, philosophy and neuropsychology, and in the mind-body problem more generally.

Social Axioms
The main objective of this research was to determine the mediating role of social axioms between basic psychological needs and subjective well-being in the Romanian cultural context and to conduct a cross-cultural comparative analysis between the Romanian and UK cultural contexts. During the development of this research, the world experienced a pandemic. As a result, the author formulated an additional objective, analysed through the prism of a natural experiment with the variable COVID-19. Hence, comparing axioms, needs, and well-being before and during the pandemic provides unique insights into the impact of a global crisis on these variables. The results show that in Romanian culture, only social cynicism mediates the relationship between needs and well-being. In the UK cultural context, both social cynicism and reward for application mediate the relationship between needs and well-being. Subjective well-being tends to be associated with high linguistic performance in Romanian and English. For both Romanian and UK participants, social cynicism mediates the relationship between the need for competence and well-being, leading to an indirect effect of improving well-being.

What the Dragon of Psychiatrist Didn't Tell Me...
We live as spiritual beings in very turbulent times. People are increasingly realizing that they are more than just a body walking around. We exist in multiple dimensions, and there is a war over this very knowledge and its consequences: Will we finally be allowed to be healthy, live in peace and freedom, or will we be put back to sleep and most of us oppressed? There is much to discover on the transdimensional levels, but spiritual attacks also come from there, and one should be able to defend oneself. This book provides readers with the basics of spiritual self-defense, staying objective without drifting into esotericism. It contains empowering insights and can even support the healing of psychiatric or physical diagnoses.Whether it's psychosis, anxiety, depression, fatigue, or addiction, the dark practices in our world, such as black magic, manipulation, dark language patterns, or hypnosis, play a significant role in all of these. Many psychiatric diagnoses are related to metaphysical processes, which is unfortunately given too little consideration in therapy. Even physical health can be affected by hypnosis or other subtle attacks. These are human-made and affect us daily. The book contains many practical techniques and helps build an effective mental defense armor.

His articles analyzing economic trends, especially with regards to Cuba and Latin America, are published regularly both locally and internationally, as he is considered one of the most lucid and informed analysts in this area of study. He usually is a guest in various media sources. In the author's own words: "Having concluded half a century of studies in the field of economics, I have come to the conclusion that economic wellbeing is more individual than social, and it is more directly related to psychology and behavior. Furthermore, economic decisions are most highly influenced by these two factors. For this reason, I decided to write not the economics book I produce on a yearly basis, but one that analyzes behavior, as determined by psychological factors".
