American Muslims
Muslim immigrants in the United States share the same characteristics as any other immigrant group coming to America looking for a chance at prosperity. Immigrants form close communities, maintain many of their customs and cultural ties to their home countries and their faith. However, Muslim immigrants are at the center of a large struggle between Western governments, moderate Muslim communities and extremist groups. In spite of these pressures, Muslim Americans have proven resistant to radicalism and extremist ideology. Their success in education, finance, and integration into American society has defeated radicalization and its violent component. In stark contrast to Western European Muslim communities, Muslim Americans are more like their non-Muslim neighbors than Muslim immigrant populations in other Western democracies. However, there are risks to Muslim Americans that create potential for possible violent extremism; Muslim leaders, communities, and the United States must address the risks to prevent the growth of homegrown Muslim extremists. The social mechanisms of why a person chooses to become radical and subsequently violent are not based on specific ideologies; instead, the process is common to all, whether Salafi jihadists or white supremacists. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it. Religious Accommodation for Military Members in the Twenty-First Century
This paper assesses the Air Force#65533;s current policy on religious accommodation and then develops a descriptive alternative to the current policy that addresses shortfalls uncovered in the current policy. Changes in society, laws, and emerging religious trends catalyzed by the military services#65533; unique culture have created an ambiguous social context regarding the free exercise of religion in the United States Air Force. Members and leaders lack sufficient standards by which they can test the benefits of the free expression of faith against a set of identified compelling governmental interests. The lack of definite guidance unnecessarily restricts the constitutional guaranteed free exercise of religion and denies leaders the ability to leverage the pre-existing religious beliefs of members to the mutual benefit of the individual and the organization. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it. Secular Coexistence in Lebanon
A study of the coexistence of Muslims and Christians in Lebanon through an investigation of Lebanese law. The book considers coexistence as an organizing or structuring principle of the modern Lebanese state, and of its legal order. It analyses the kind of legal arrangement that coexistence dictates, and the legal processes that sustain coexistence. It reaches beyond the law to describe or provide an account of coexistence as constitutive of a secular sensibility or form of life, a sensibility or form of life that finds its articulations in specific ways of thinking, doing, and feeling. It describes some of the concepts, practices, and attitudes of coexistence, through which Muslims and Christians in Lebanon are secured a place and secured in place, enabled and constrained to make legible their 'religious' difference and distinctiveness through marriage and its consequences (the family), and to keep in check, restrain, or contain their 'religious' passions. It proposes that the coexistence of Muslims and Christians in Lebanon is Lebanese secularism.

Evangelicals and Israel
A system of biblical theology known as dispensationalism is premised on the continuing validity of Jehovah's promise to Abraham of the land of Palestine to his physical descendants, the Jews. This paper demonstrates to what extent this theological system informs the thinking of very significant figures on the American cultural and political scene, potentially subordinating legitimate US strategic interests to a dogmatic worldview based on a flawed system of biblical interpretation. It further demonstrates that America's pro-Zionist policies have significantly influenced Usama bin Laden to wage his jihad against the United States. The author concludes by making recommendations designed to remove US interests vis- -vis Israel from the realm of sentiment and dogma to that of realpolitick, with the potential for significantly reducing the terrorist threat to US citizens. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it. The Zohar Volume 6
Zohar is a Hebrew word that means splendor. In its simplest form, the Zohar is a commentary on the Bible. Although the wisdom available in its pages is older than Creation itself, the text of the Zohar was composed approximately 2000 years ago. In the centuries that followed, the Zohar was often suppressed by religious and secular authorities who feared its power to transform the lives of those who gained access to the sacred writings. The sages of Kabbalah also realized that the Zohar must wait until humankind was ready to receive it. Michael Berg was the first person ever to translate the entire 23-volume Zohar from ancient Aramaic into English, a monumental task which he began at the age of 18 and finished ten years later. Through his translation we discover the Zohar deals very directly with concepts of reincarnation, visionary experiences, and the presence of unseen influences in our midst. Today we are able to accept these ideas that were once perceived as inexplicable mysticism or dangerous sorcery. We have the capacity to understand the Zohar's true teachings. This is a difficult experience to describe, but by bringing the Zohar into your life, you will discover its meaning for yourself and receive its soul.Volume 6 contains Vayeshev, Miketz & Vayigash.

The Bhagavadgita Original Commentary
The Bhagavadgita Original Commentary: Unveiling The Gita's Secrets is one of the most comprehensive commentaries on the Bhagavadgita in recent times. Jayaram V published a commentary earlier in 2011 under the title The Bhagavadgita Complete Translation. Jayaram V spent three years and published a new edition in 2024 under the new title, Bhagavadgita: Unveiling The Gita's Secrets, completely and thoroughly revising his earlier commentary and providing an in-depth analysis of each sloka and yoga, citing relevant information from classical commentators like Shankaracharya and Madhavacharya, as well as ancient texts such as the Yogasutras and the Upanishads. He also offered a detailed historical background of the teachings, discussing the circumstances, the socio-religious context, and the key influences that might have led to their formulation. In translating the scripture, he adhered to the traditional Vedic interpretation of the slokas without being influenced by any particular school, sect, or teacher tradition. To provide additional clarity and context, he tried to bring out the original intent of each verse and the most plausible meaning of each word in the context of the times in which they were composed. The current 2025 edition is similar to the 2024 edition except for the main title and a few spelling and grammatical corrections. We hope this work will help you understand the significance of the ancient wisdom contained in the scripture. The Bhagavadgita is a compendium of many ancient yoga philosophies on liberation from human suffering, with universal appeal and ageless wisdom. It inspires those who want to live dutifully and attain freedom from the limitations of life. Composed originally in Sanskrit, it delivers a unique message, which is still relevant, exhorting the devotees of God to live virtuously and perform their duties selflessly as an offering to Him, with detachment and dispassion. In translating it and presenting a detailed commentary, Jayaram has brought to light the richness of the scripture and its ageless wisdom.

Primacies
A powerful exploration of how literature expresses and transforms our earliest preverbal experiences. Primacies begins with the assertion that our earliest preverbal experiences are accompanied by a primary language--a universal expression of tears, cries, and laughter offered long before we learn our distinctive, ordinary languages. For Michael Fishbane, these "primacies" release the raw feelings of our existential condition and catalyze our most powerful literary expressions of sorrow, joy, and fulfillment. In this book, Fishbane explores how ancient, medieval, and modern literature and poetry express and transform these primal sensations. Building on his theological project begun in Sacred Attunement and Fragile Finitude, Fishbane offers here a radically new lived hermeneutics that seeks to do nothing less than redefine the relationship between experience and language.
Across the Horizon
When you look across the horizon of your life, what do you see? Don't look at your past, instead imagine your future. Can you see a future where your children and their children are healthy, wise, strong, and well-cared for? Do you see a legacy, your life's work, impacting a community you serve? In that future, are you ok? Do you have healthy relationships, safety, well-being, success, or financial security? What we see when we look into the future matters to us and Jesus. What we hope for should be communicated to God, regularly, that he may guide us to our destination. I call these Horizon Prayers, as they are prayers that have the sole purpose of helping us to become all that God has created us to be. There is a remarkable difference between a lifestyle of daily prayer (to pray without ceasing) and intentional horizon prayers (prayers tied to your purpose, destiny, and legacy). Horizon prayers require research, soul searching, and intimacy with God. My hope is to convey the critical components of those prayers as God reveals them to me, in order of importance.
The Golem Bride
Eliyahu Baal Shem, a once renowned but now forgotten master of the Kabbalah, of Jewish mystical lore, had long given up on the making of golems. He regretted the golem he had once made in his youth, and he had sworn off creating another one. But then one day a stranger came to his house with a bizarre plea for help: A Polish nobleman had fallen in love with an inanimate, life-size doll of a woman, and he was convinced that this doll had once been a golem, fashioned by a great rabbi, that had been able to walk and talk. The nobleman threatened grave harm against the Jews on his lands unless they could find a rabbi with sufficient power to bring her back to life, so he could embrace and marry his beloved doll. Would Eliyahu Baal Shem, the stranger asked, return with him to save his community from their mad lord? What follows is an exploration of a bizarre, destructive love and the seductions of the artificial creation of life. And the old mystic will perhaps find himself also falling victim to the lure of a golem in the form of a beautiful, gushing maiden.

Offering an awareness we can use to infuse our lives with positivity, The Rav brings the holidays alive from commemorations of historic events to dynamic opportunities for change and growth. From this perspective, observing holidays is not a religious obligation, but a choice we can make for the purpose of transforming ourselves and the world around us. In Part One, Rav Berg explains the preparations for, and provides deep insight into the first four months of the year, beginning with Rosh Hashanah.

You will discover how destiny and free will dance together, how cosmic rhythms mirror the inner life, and how the movements of the heavens shape and reflect our experiences on Earth. This book is not a tool for superstition or fear. It is a guide to self-awareness, healing, and divine alignment. Critical Thinking and Army Religious Leadership
The United States Army is changing and so must the chaplaincy. At the heart of the ongoing Army transformation is a critical thinking (CT) approach to problem solving and decision-making. Given the many complex choices Army leaders face on a daily basis, the Army considers CT to be an essential leader skill, and requires its leaders to become critical thinkers. Consequently, to remain relevant in a critical thinking Army, it is essential that chaplains need not only be educated on CT, but also that they understand what it portends for their religious leadership of the Army. Particularly as chaplains face new challenges and assume new responsibilities, some outside the area of their traditional expertise or training, CT skills will become even more crucial. Its shortcomings notwithstanding, CT is vital to Army religious leadership. However, to realize the value of CT to religious leadership in the pluralistic environment of the Army will require a broader understanding of religious ministry. Consequently, chaplains must overcome certain intellectual, theological, and psychological (emotional) challenges to foster coherent intellectual and theological alignment of their beliefs and ministerial practices. Intellectual Reviews of Fundamentalist Islamic Groups' Leaders and Their Impact on the Jihadi Action, the Muslim World, and the West
After the events of the 11 September 2001 and the advent of the War on Terrorism focused mainly against Al-Qaeda, interest in studying the Islamic groups has increased. Such enquiries can have a huge impact on both the Muslim World as well as the West. In this stressful and hyped political and security environment in the region, intellectual reviews of the doctrinal and practical underpinnings of the activities of the leaders of Islamic Group and the Islamic Jihad Group in Egypt have been published. In the world of Islam, an intellectual review is an open public proclamation by an Islamic cleric of a sound standing. Most of these reviews have concluded that these supposedly Jihadist groups have gone astray. The reviews challenge the hard-line members of these groups and urge them to confess their doctrine is misguided and therefore course correction was in order. The reviews also ask groups' rank and file to apologize to the public through a critical and dispassionate review of their jurisprudence, their wrong political behavior, their belief in legitimacy of violence and murder, and atone for their acts of omission and commission through sincere commitment to the governments and societies. I sincerely believe that an analysis of these intellectual reviews will strengthen our understanding of the nature of the ideas of fundamentalist Islamic groups. This thesis seeks to answer the primary question of what is at the heart of the intellectual reviews of fundamentalist Islamic groups' leaders and what potential impact could these reviews have on the Jihadi Action, the Muslim World, and the West. To answer the primary question, this thesis focuses on four secondary questions: (1) What is the concept of jihad according to famous Islamic scholars? (2) What is the concept of jihad in the Qur'an and Hadith? (3) What is the history of the Egyptian Islamic groups? (4) What are the essential contents of famous intellectual reviews? This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it. Extremist Religious Ideologies and Military Strategy
There are literally hundreds of factions in various countries all over the world that support or have religious ideologies that are considered extreme. They are extreme because they conduct or sponsor violent acts and because they seek to undermine the legitimacy of a nation's government while instilling fear in the hearts and minds of the population. These factions or groups have often used a distorted view of religion to propagate their agenda. At the top of the agenda for some and one of the greatest concerns for America is transnational terrorism and those that use extremist religious ideologies to export it. It is important for military planners to know why extremist religious ideologies exist and why the ideology behind the threat resonates among its supporters. However, the problem is one that has already saturated the contemporary operational environment (COE). Military planners must consider every implication pertaining to extremist ideologies, including extremist religious ideologies in order to develop better strategies that enable successful operations with the COE.This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it. Islam, Terrorism and the Strategy of Enlightened Moderation
The study focuses on analyzing the ongoing acts of violence and radicalism by individuals associated with Islam, in the light of teachings and principles of this great religion of peace, which denounces terrorism. Tracing the roots of terror in almost all faith and beliefs, it suggests that violence is not a function of faith; rather it is politically motivated with more fundamental causes and reasons for such acts. After detailed analysis of all the related aspects, the study concludes that such acts in the name of Islam are not consistent with the teachings of Islam. The study also attempts to answer these questions: Is the violence and radicalism being practiced in the name of Islam, Islamic? How has Islam, being a religion of peace, gained a reputation as a belief of war, violence, intolerance, and terror? What is the Islamic concept of jihad, and what are the misperceptions about this concept? It then suggests the means and ways to deal with the menace of terrorism in Muslim countries on a more comprehensive basis through the "Strategy of Enlightened Moderation," proposed by President Pervez Musharraf of Pakistan. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it. Understanding Islam and Its Impact on Latin America
In this study Lt Col Curtis Connell, USAF, examines the debate between those who perceive a general Islamic threat, the confrontationalists, and others who see a small band of religious fanatics who have hijacked Islam from the moderate majority, the accommodationists. A well-researched but brief history of Islam and the various sects and key players that currently comprise this institution helps answer that debate. This question of the source of terrorism has importance to the Islamic world as it does for the United States and its Latin American neighbors. The preliminary answer for Latin America is that the United States should not be alarmed at the potential for Islamic fundamentalism, but sufficiently concerned to keep a watchful eye on future developments. In fact Connell suggests that the demographics do not favor the growth of an effective radical movement. If there are too few Muslims in Latin America to birth radicalism, there is on the other hand, a very active and extensive native, non-Islamic terrorism. The author connects these dots because he sees a latent connection to Muslims in the areas where terrorism organizations and drug traffickers proliferate. It is a potentially easy step for incipient Muslim radicals to get caught up and find beneficial purpose with these criminals. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it. Islam and Muslims in Victorian Britain
Jamie Gilham collates the work of leading and emerging scholars of Islam in Britain, Christian-Muslim relations and Victorian Studies to offer fresh perspectives on Islam andMuslims in Victorian Britain. The contributors reveal 19th-century attitudes and beliefs about Islam and Muslims to demonstrate the plurality of approaches and representations of Islam in Britain's past. Also bringing to life the stories and voices of early Muslim settlers and converts to Islam, this book examines the lived experience of Muslims in the Victorian period. Sources include political and academic writings, literature, travelogues, the press and other forms of popular culture. Intersectional themes include religion and religiosity, 'race' and ethnicity, gender, class, citizenship, empire and imperialism, and prejudice, discrimination and resilience.
Shame, Modesty, and Honor in Islam
With a particular emphasis on definitions, continuities, and change, this edited volume examines the historical role and function of haya' - or feelings of shame, modesty, and honor - in Islamic theology and law, and explores contemporary Muslims' engagements with the concept. The book explores various conceptions of haya' and the practices associated with the concept in both Muslim majority and minority contexts. The empirically rich contributions reveal how haya' is socially constructed in varying social and cultural environments across the globe. From medieval Islam to the modern day, this book demonstrates the importance of haya' and its temporal and spatial transformations.
Ritual and Social Dynamics in Christian and Islamic Preaching
Christian and Islamic sermons from past and present, and their preachers, are analyzed to reveal the socio-cultural dynamics of religious speeches. Part I focuses on the explicit contribution of sermons in socio-cultural transformation processes. It shows how sermons connect with holy texts, religious norms of the specific group, and social-cultural contexts. Part II analyzes the dynamic tension between normativity and popularity. Rather than juxtaposing normative stances and the popularity of sermons, it shows how that normativity can itself contribute to popularity and the quest of popularity carries its own normative stances. Part III explores the ritual embeddedness of religious speech in the sermon in relation to social dynamics, normativity, and popularity, and shows how speech and rituals have a reciprocal relationship.

This study explores the relevance of CT to Army religious leadership by examining its meaning, characteristics, purpose, and requirements; outlining its strengths and weaknesses; and analyzing the challenges it poses, as well as its utility, for Army religious leadership. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
