My God
We are blessed to have an environment with blue skies, green trees, the earth beneath our feet, and air we can breathe. We live in an environment that was created to sustain life and we must acknowledge none of us were born with the knowledge to create the world we live in. God, the creator of heaven and earth, loves us immensely and stands afar to see if anyone will seek him, acknowledge him, or even try to understand who he truly is. He sent his son, Jesus Christ, to be God with us, and has left his Holy Spirit to be God within us. When I realized that we serve a living God, who hears us, listens, and loves each of us - uniquely and individually, it changed my life. God is knocking at the door of our hearts to see if we will let him in. He desires to be Your God, just as he is My God.
The Zohar
This is the fourth volume of the Zohar's, covering the books of Exodus and Leviticus, the second and third books of the Torah. It covers the following portions (parashiot): Terumah (continued), Tetzaveh, Ki Tisa, Vayakhel, Pekudei, Vayikra, Zav, and Shemini. The Zohar is a mystical text that explores the deeper meanings of the Torah, helping people on a spiritual journey connect with their soul's essence. For over 700 years, the Zohar has been a key text in Jewish mysticism, offering insights into the Bible's stories and commandments, and uncovering hidden spiritual truths. It was written by Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai (Rashbi), a Jewish sage from the 2nd and 3rd centuries CE.
The Books of Enoch
This translation contains all 3 Books of Enoch: 1) 1 Book of Enoch (Also called The Ethiopic Book of Enoch) 2) 2 Book of Enoch (Also called The Slavonic Book of Enoch, The Secrets of Enoch). Also contains the extended version of 2 The Book of Enoch, The Exaltation of Melchizedek. 3) 3 Book of Enoch (Also called The Hebrew Book of Enoch) Although this book is considered apocryphal for the Western canon, it is contained in the Ethiopic Bible. It was considered sacred by some but it was left out of the Bible and disappeared for centuries until it was rediscovered in Ethiopic. According to most scholars, part of it was written in third century BCE and part of it in the first century CE (the part related to the Son of Man). Although the oldest complete copies of 1 Enoch are K-9 or Kebran 9, dated late fourteenth early fifteenth century and Ethiopian Monastic Microfilm Library (EMML 2080) of the fifteenth or fourteenth century, fragments found in Qumramin the 1950s are more than 2000 years old. Other old important manuscripts are Abbadianus 55 (possibly fifteenth century) and British Museum Orient 485 (first half of the sixteenth century). The 2nd Book of Enoch, the Slavonic Enoch, is another apocryphal book, found complete only in Old Slavonic manuscripts, and it was once present in the Old Slavonic Bible. It's usually dated to the first century CE although Matthew Black in The Oxford Guide to People & Places of the Bible state that there is no manuscript earlier than the fourteenth century BCE.The 3rd Book of Enoch, the Hebrew Enoch, is a Rabbinic text originally written in Hebrew usually dated to the fifth century CE. Some experts believe it was written by Rabbi Ishmael (second century CE).
Religious Truth
Truth informs much of the self-understanding of religious believers. Accordingly, understanding what we mean by 'truth' is a key challenge to interreligious collaboration. The contributors to this volume, all leading scholars, consider what is meant by truth in classical and contemporary Jewish thought, and explore how making the notion of truth more nuanced can enable interfaith dialogue. Their essays take a range of approaches: some focus on philosophy proper, others on the intersection with the history of ideas, while others engage with the history of Jewish mysticism and thought. Together they open up the notion of truth in Jewish religious discourse and suggest ways in which upholding a notion of one's religion as true may be reconciled with an appreciation of other faiths. By combining philosophical and theological thinking with concrete case studies, and discussion of precedents and textual resources within Judaism, the volume proposes new interpretations of the concept of truth, going beyond traditional exclusivist uses of the term. A key aim is to help Jews seeking dialogue with other religions to do so while remaining true to their own faith tradition: in pursuit of this, the volume concludes with suggestions of how the ideas presented can be applied in practice. Cave of My Ancestors
Exploring family stories reveals the rich history of a seventh-century Buddhist shrine. As a young girl in Bombay, Kirin Narayan was enthralled by her father's stories about how their ancestors had made the ancient rock-cut cave temples at Ellora. Recalling those stories as an adult, she was inspired to learn more about the caves, especially the Buddhist worship hall known as the "Vishwakarma cave." Immersing herself in family history, oral traditions, and works by archaeologists, art historians, scholars of Buddhism, Indologists, and Sanskritists, Narayan set out to answer the question of how this cave came to be venerated as the home of Vishwakarma, the god of making in Hindu and Buddhist traditions. Cave of My Ancestors represents the perfect blend of Narayan's skills as a researcher and writer. Her quest to trace her family's stories took her to Ellora; through libraries, archives, and museums around the world; and across disciplinary borders. Equal parts scholarship, detective story, and memoir, Narayan's book ably leads readers through centuries of history, offering a sensitive meditation on devotion, wonder, and all that connects us to place, family, the past, and the divine.
Apocalyptic Witchcraft
The spectre of witchcraft is haunting the West, the dead giving up their secrets. This is a ritual unveiling of these mysteries. It is a vision and a revelation of the mytho-poetic structure of the Art. Apocalyptic Witchcraft is a bold project which does not seek to impose an orthodoxy on what is the heresy of heresies. Instead, it suggests a way forward. Apocalyptic Witchcraft gives a compelling and profound account of the Sabbat and Wild Hunt as living experiences. These are the core of our ritual practice. Dream, lunar and, critically, menstrual magic are explored as a path to this knowledge. The wolf, the Devil, and the Goddess of witchcraft are then encountered in a landscape that ultimately reveals the witch to her or himself. These are not separate threads, but arise from a deep mythic structure and are woven together into a single unifying vision. Alternating between polemic, poetic and ecstatic prose, an harmonious course is revealed in a sequence of elegant stratagems. The book is threaded together with a cycle of hymns to Inanna, pearls on the tapestry of night. Seemingly disparate aspects are joined into a vision which is neither afraid of blessing nor curse. This is a daring undertaking, born from both urgency and need. It offers a renewed sense of purpose and meaning for a witchcraft that has seen many of its treasured ideas about itself destroyed. An apocalyptic age demands an apocalyptic witchcraft, and this is a book which is offered up to revolutionise the body of the craft, a way out of the dark impasse. Tradition is not static, it flows, and this work pours forth a vision for the future. Founded in pilgrimage and ritual, encountered in dreams and gleaned from the conversations of both doves and crows, a remarkable narrative unfolds. Its wings span from prehistory, through the witch panic and it emerges fully fledged into our present moment of crisis. It offers a witchcraft for our time. Apocalyptic Witchcraft is a controversial, luminous text. A shuddering paroxysm of eternal renewal beneath the serpent moon. It is neither a how-to book, nor a history, rather it is a magical vision of the Art in its entirety.
Our Master Muhammad ﷺ the Messenger of Allah. His Sublime Character & Exalted Attributes. Volume 2.
In this day and age, it is essential for the Muslim community and humanity at large to acquire a detailed description of the Best of Creation, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Our Master Muhammad ﷺ, the Messenger of Allah is a book of devotion written from the heart and addressing every heart that yearns to draw closer to best of Allah's creation. In this second volume of the book, the author details the exemplary character traits of our Prophet ﷺ, his devout worship, his noble lineage and progeny, and the blessings of his physical-self and personal effects, and his infallibility in both religious and worldly matters. This expression of Prophetic love and longing was written by the 'Pole of Prophetic love in our times', the venerable saint, Hadith scholar and exegete: Imam ʿAbdallah Sirajuddin al-Husayni His book is an exceptional demonstration of sound scholarship and spiritual realization."O you who love the Messenger of Allah ﷺ! Time has isolated us, tribulations have spread amongst us, the charlatans have spoken, and many people have preoccupied themselves with that which relieves neither hunger nor thirst. We have lost the warmth of the love of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, the warmth that those who love him feel, and which those who yearn for him desperately seek, and in the beauty of which the most knowledgeable ones in Allah lose themselves. The reality of this love is absent, whilst claims to it are many, and the way of the Companions and the model of their love have been reduced to mere stories and legends. So let us renew our covenant with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and bear the banner of love to the most sincere and lasting love, and the most enduring and faithful reverence, and the brightest and most resplendent light, and the Beloved and Chosen One of Allah." -Shaykh Muhammad b. Mystery and Mime in the Rig Veda
In this significant contribution to comparative mythology Leopold von Schroeder (1851-1920), Professor of Indology at the University of Innsbruck and the University of Vienna, elaborates his theory that the dialogue form of some of the Vedic hymns points to mystery cultic practices of the Āryans that preceded the fire-worship characteristic of the Indo- Āryans. Schroeder connects this presumed early form of Indic drama with the dramatic representations of Crete, Greece, Italy and the Germanic lands and especially with the sacred dances and sword dances developed therefrom. Thus, the dances of the Cretan Curetes, the Phrygian Corybantes, the Salian priests of ancient Rome, the sword-dancers of the Germanic lands, and the Morris dancers of England are all traced back by Schroeder to the principal Vedic mythological figures of the Maruts and their leader, the heroic god Indra. By focusing on the mystery cults behind the Vedas Schroeder sheds light on the religious foundations of the dramatic arts in Europe as well as in India.
Our Master Muhammad ﷺ the Messenger of Allah. His Sublime Character & Exalted Attributes. Volume 1.
Modern times have made it even more important that Muslims acquaint themselves with their Prophet ﷺ, not only for the sake of their personal spiritual development, but also for the sake of the religion as a whole. There has perhaps never been a time when the world was more in need of an authentic depiction of the Best of Creation ﷺ. Our Master Muhammad ﷺ, the Messenger of Allah is a unique work discussing the noble qualities and characteristics of the Final Prophet ﷺ in a way that is infused with love and devotion. In the first volume of this book, the author depicts all the fine attributes of our Prophet ﷺ with respect to his physical beauty, his eloquence and wisdom, his exalted status, his sublime character and his mercy ﷺ.This expression of Prophetic love and longing was written by the 'Pole of Prophetic love in our times', the venerable saint, Hadith scholar and exegete: Imam ʿAbdallah Sirajuddin al-Husayni His book is an exceptional demonstration of sound scholarship and spiritual realization."It is as though the Shaykh was looking directly at the Messenger of Allah ﷺ before him as he wrote, deriving his beautiful expressions from the light of his ﷺ countenance, so that by divine providence his insight was opened, and he grazed in the pastures of subtle secrets, uncovering the beauty and perfection of the Messenger's ﷺ character, imbibing the fragrance of the Prophetic Sunna, bathing in the light of the Muhammadan reality and its meanings, and tasting of its fruits, and then gathering all of these illuminations in a work so noble and rarefied that it would not be surprising if it were to be read to a sick person and so cure him." -Shaykh Muhammad b. Yahya al-Ninowy
The Philosophy of Unity in the Writings of Fazlur Rahman Ansari
In the Unity of Philosophy in the Writings of Fazlur Rahman Ansari, the first part of Tawasul's Muhammad Fazlur Rahman Ansari Series, Abdul Kader Choughley, a foremost scholar of South Asian Muslim intellectual heritage, examines the concept of Tawhid in Ansari's oeuvres. Tawhid, the inimitable oneness and uniqueness of God, though beyond any likeness to anything conceivable or inconceivable, in the Quranic parlance, according to Ansari, must be reflected in the unity of God's creation. Tawhid, Ansari argues, is interlinked to the development of the integrated worldview about humanity's success in this world. Moreover, it expands the horizon of 'Ibadah (worship) by investing values that have far-reaching implications for a balanced outlook on life. It is this vision that cuts across the barriers of bigotry, irrationality and superstition. In its essence, the thematic significance of Tawhid is framed from the lens of Divine guidance (Wahy). Fazlur Rahman Ansari (1914-1974), one the brilliant South Asian Muslim scholars of the last century, contributed enormously to the revival Islamic thought through his many insightful books and lectures. Apart from the Tawhid, some of the recurring themes of Ansari's works are the Prophet's (peace be upon him) life and the meaning of his Sunnah, the true significance of Shari'ah, the meaning of Tasawwuf, the remembrance of God (Dhikr), the role of women in Islam, Islam relations with the West, Christianity, secularism and other modern ideologies.
Biblia Satanae
"For the devil's word is alive and has sinful power, sharper than the nails of golgoth, it penetrates deep, separates flesh from spirit, bone from soul, recognises the instincts and intentions of the unconscious. There is no being hidden from its truth". Biblia Satanae, Etd. 4:12This is a pocket version of the Biblia Satanae that can always be kept to hand, useful for study on the go, helpful in proclaiming the good news of the Lightbearer who has revealed Himself to deliver from the belief in an delusional god, from the fear of death and divine fire, from the guilt of sin that never was, from the belief in eternal life on one's knees. So that the Satanist would be perfect, for a life abundant in flesh and blood prepared.
Worship and Awe in Christian Psychology
Mental health resources increasingly focus on the self as the antidote to psychological suffering, offering strategies for prioritizing self-care and self-esteem. Yet as people focus more on the self, their suffering may actually worsen, as evidenced by the prevalence of mental health disorders today. According to Christian clinical psychologist Joshua Knabb, when people focus less on the self and more on God, their mental and spiritual health may improve.Combining up-to-date psychological research with theological reflection, this book helps readers better understand the role that awe, pursued through the act of worship, plays in optimal psychological and spiritual functioning. Knabb explains that at its core, Christian mental and spiritual health involves worshipful awe of God, which can be intentionally cultivated throughout the day. The book also includes practices for readers to try out and use in clinical contexts.Worship and Awe in Christian Psychology will benefit students in Christian counseling and psychology programs, mental health practitioners, and others who want to improve their mental and spiritual health from a Christian perspective.
The Lord's Prayer
Prayer is that one thing that almost everybody does at one time or the other. Muslims do it, Buddhists do it, Hindus do it, heathens do it, Christians do it, and even pagans do it. The principle of Christian prayer is based primarily on God's commitment to his Word. Every Word that God speaks is also a law to him, and he will subject himself to his promises and decrees because of his integrity. The Scriptures reveal that man has been given the authority and prerogative to determine what happens in the earth realm. In all of God's dealings with mankind, we will see that he has never done anything on earth without the cooperation of a person. Every action of God in the earth realm has always required the involvement of a human being. God needed Noah in order to rescue humanity in the flood. He needed Abraham for the creation of the nation of Israel. He needed Moses to lead the nation of Israel to the land of promise. He needed Daniel to bring back Israel from captivity. To defeat Jericho, he needed Joshua. For the preservation of the Jews, he needed Esther. For the Salvation of mankind, he himself needed to become a man. God does nothing but in answer to the prayers of man. The corruptions that had crept into the duty of prayer among the Jews were so many that Jesus saw it needful to give a new directory for prayer, to show his disciples what must ordinarily be the matter and method of their prayer. This he gave in words that could be used as a format because the contents included the several particulars of our prayers. This matchless prayer revealed in Matthew chapter 6 was given not only as a model, but also as a form. After Jesus had condemned what was amiss, he directed us to do better because it is obvious that we know not what to pray for as we ought, but here he helps our infirmities, by putting words into our mouths; "...after this manner therefore pray ye" (Mat. 6:9). He who best knew what we ought to pray for, and how we ought to pray; what matter of desire, and what manner of address would most please himself. Jesus therefore here dictated to us a most perfect and universal form of prayer, comprising all our real wants, expressing all our lawful desires; a complete directory and full exercise of all our devotions. This prayer is indeed our Lord's prayer; it is of his composing, and of his appointing; it is very compendious, yet very comprehensive, and very compassionate.
The West And The Quran
This Publication treats the subject of the Quran and the reason for presenting this is due to a rise in Islamic terrorism, which has caused great concern to many in the West. So with the current massive influx of Muslim's migrating from the various parts of the world into Europe, Great Britain and the USA, it seems reasonable to discover the roots of Islam in order to deal with the problems that have occurred. Our Politicians seem clueless on how to deal with this enemy and when they are questioned they appear to know relatively little about Muhammad and his teaching. One of our greatest Prime-ministers in Britain William Gladstone declared the Quran an "Accursed book" and once held a copy of Muhammad's Quran up in Parliament, declaring: "So long as there is this book there will be no peace in the world". In this book we show that the Quran was written some 500 years after the New Testament scriptures. We use the New Testament scriptures to show that they teach the death resurrection and ascension of the Lord Jesus Christ. We show that Jesus Christ was declared to be the Son of God who's death was ordained by God to make an atonement for the sins of the world (people from every nation whether they be Jew, Gentile, Pagan or Muslim). We show that the majority of the Jewish leaders rejected him and were responsible for his crucifixion and they persecuted the follows of Jesus before and after his death and resurrection. We show that the gospel was preached throughout the whole of the Roman world during the life times of the Apostles and that the Apostles forewarned that men would arise up who would distort the gospel and deny the truths of the gospel. We show that they taught us how we were to deal with this matter.
The Secret of the Golden Flower; A Chinese Book of Life
2024 Hardcover Reprint of 1932 Edition. Full facsimile of the original edition and not reproduced with Optical Recognition Software. The Secret of the Golden Flower is a Chinese Taoist book about meditation, first was translated by Richard Wilhelm, a friend of Carl Jung. Jung wrote a forward and an appendix for the book. The meditation technique described in the book is a straightforward, silent method; the book's description of meditation has been characterized as 'Zen with details'. The meditation technique, set forth in poetic language, reduces to a formula of sitting, breathing and contemplating. Sitting primarily relates to a straight posture. Breathing is described in detail, primarily in terms of the esoteric physiology of the path of "qi" (also known as "chi" or "ki"), or breath energy. The energy path associated with breathing has been described as similar to an internal wheel vertically aligned with the spine. When breathing is steady, the wheel turns forward, with breath energy rising in back and descending in front. Bad breathing habits (or bad posture, or even bad thoughts) may cause the wheel not to turn, or move backward, inhibiting the circulation of essential breath energy. In contemplation, one watches thoughts as they arise and recede. The title is illustrated with eleven plates and four text illustrations.
The Yellow Court Scripture, vol. 2
The Huangting jing (Yellow Court Scripture), a central classic of Daoist meditation translated earlier in this series, did not grow or remain in a cultural vacuum. This book seeks to elucidate its greater context, presenting discussions and translations of four major and six minor works that can be described as precursors or successors of the text dating from the Eastern Han to the late Tang dynasties. Taken together, these texts illustrate the vibrant cultural role of the Huangting jing in the middle period, showing its growth as part of early Daoist meditation circles and demonstrating its later development into more medical and exorcistic contexts. The book with its original translations makes a major contribution to the study of Daoist cultivation and Chinese intellectual history.

Second Enoch: A Samaritan Apocalypse
This study marks a bold new departure in 2 Enoch studies. The book has long been regarded as one of the most baffling apocalypses to come down to us from antiquity. The present work argues that 2 Enoch was written by a 1st c. CE Samaritan author whose purpose was to incorporate the Enochic tradition into Samaritanism. By identifying Enoch as the "prophet like Moses" (Deut. 18:15, 18), both during his earthly past and in the eschatological future, the author of 2 Enoch hoped to combat the Dosithean heresy and also to persuade co-religionists to resume a full sacrificial cultus in the shadow of Mt. Gerizim.
The Spiritual Crisis of the Scientific Age
First published in 1959, the original blurb reads: "No good purpose is served today by treating the relationship between Christianity and the natural sciences as a conflict; even as a conflict to be resolved. The modern world is passing through a crisis of far-reaching proportions; which is the direct consequence of its inability to assimilate new scientific knowledge, and to direct rightly the new technical skills. The crisis, which is essentially spiritual in character, is examined in its three principal aspects. Accordingly, the first part of the book deals with our understanding of the order of nature; the second with some of the central doctrines of the Christian faith; and the final section with the pressing ethical and moral problems of the industrial and nuclear age." Today it can be read and enjoyed in its historical context. This book is a re-issue originally published in 1959. The language used and views portrayed are a reflection of its era and no offence is meant by the Publishers to any reader by this re-publication.

DAO de Jing
This bold new translation by two brilliant poets offers a contemporary perspective on a timeless masterpiece of Daoist scripture, introducing Dao De Jing to a new audience while retaining the majesty of the Chinese original. Composed of eighty-one short poems written by the sage Laozi in 400 BC, Dao De Jing is one of the pillars of Chinese thought. Acclaimed poet Li-Young Lee and poet and scholar Yun Wang illuminate Dao De Jing as a unified work of art. This revelatory and faithful translation--presented alongside the original Chinese text--reveals its enduring teachings in their profound simplicity, subtlety, and balance.
Creation and Contemplation
In Creation and Contemplation, Julien Decharneux explores the connections between the cosmology of the Qur'ān and various cosmological traditions of Late Antiquity, with a focus on Syriac Christianity. The first part of the book studies how, in exhorting its audience to contemplate the world, the Qur'ān carries on a tradition of natural contemplation that had developed throughout Late Antiquity in the Christian world. In this regard, the analysis suggests particularly striking connections with the mystical and ascetic literature of the Church of the East, which was in effervescence at the time of the emergence of Islam. The second part argues that the Qur'ānic cosmological discourse is built so as to serve the overarching theological message of the text, namely God's absolute unity. Despite the allusive, and sometimes obscure, way in which the Qur'ān talks about the world's coming into being and its maintenance in existence, the text betrays its authors' acquaintance with cosmological debates of Late Antiquity. In studying the Qur'ān through the prism of Late Antiquity, this book contributes to our understanding of the emergence of Islam and its relationship with other religious traditions of the time. Winner of the 2022 Marie-Antoinette Van Huele Prize and the 2023 Richard Kreglinger Prize (both Faculty of Philosophy and Social Sciences, Free University of Brussels.
Scripting a Sermon
Scripting a Sermon approaches common challenges for crafting sermons looking toward the essential components of filmmaking to help preachers create more potent sermons. In this third volume in the "Preaching and..." series, Shauna K. Hannan and Gael Chandler combine their expertise to focus on the convergences between the crafts of homiletics and filmmaking. Looking to enliven the preached word, this book draws attention to the ways in which the sermon is set up to captivate the audience. For example, sermon openings, which are frequently disconnected from the sermon's overall point or needlessly long, are explored through the techniques of filmmakers who use opening shots to introduce the narrative. Readers will be enlightened to how filmmakers use these openings to set the tone of the film, involve the audience in the characters' story, and establish expectations for what the audience will encounter throughout the film. Hannan and Chandler give detailed and practical advice on specific aspects of this and other processes that preachers could use to craft far more effective sermons. Other chapters cover building scenes and characters, being a good editor of your work, and crafting effective sermon endings. Equipped with the wisdom of the best filmmakers, skilled preachers will gain greater insight into powerful methods for captivating hearers and impacting our world.

Interpreting Child Sacrifice Narratives
Examining the theme of child sacrifice as a psychological challenge, this book applies a unique approach to religious ideas by looking at beliefs and practices that are considered deviant, but also make up part of mainstream religious discourse in Judaism, Islam, and Christianity. Ancient religious mythology, which survives through living traditions and transmitted narratives, rituals, and writings, is filled with violent stories, often involving the targeting of children as ritual victims. Christianity offers Abraham's sacrifice and assures us that the "only begotten son" has died, and then been resurrected. This version of the sacrifice myth has dominated the West. It is celebrated in an act of fantasy cannibalism, in which the believers share the divine son's flesh and blood. This book makes the connection between Satanism stories in the 1980s, the Blood Libel in Europe, The Eucharist, and Eastern Mediterranean narratives of child sacrifice.

What Are Jews For?
A wide-ranging look at the history of Western thinking since the seventeenth century on the purpose of the Jewish people in the past, present, and future What is the purpose of Jews in the world? The Bible singles out the Jews as God's "chosen people," but the significance of this special status has been understood in many different ways over the centuries. What Are Jews For? traces the history of the idea of Jewish purpose from its ancient and medieval foundations to the modern era, showing how it has been central to Western thinking on the meanings of peoplehood for everybody. Adam Sutcliffe delves into the links between Jewish and Christian messianism and the association of Jews with universalist and transformative ideals in modern philosophy, politics, literature, and social thought. The Jews have been accorded a crucial role in both Jewish and Christian conceptions of the end of history, when they will usher the world into a new epoch of unity and harmony. Since the seventeenth century this messianic underlay to the idea of Jewish purpose has been repeatedly reconfigured in new forms. From the political theology of the early modern era to almost all domains of modern thought--religious, social, economic, nationalist, radical, assimilationist, satirical, and psychoanalytical--Jews have retained a close association with positive transformation for all. Sutcliffe reveals the persistent importance of the "Jewish Purpose Question" in the attempts of Jews and non-Jews alike to connect the collective purpose of particular communities to the broader betterment of humanity. Shedding light on questions of exceptionalism, pluralism, and universalism, What Are Jews For? explores an intricate question that remains widely resonant in contemporary culture and political debate.
Yochanan's Gamble
Finalist for the 2025 PROSE Award in Theology and Religious Studies Some two thousand years ago, as the story goes, a rabbi named Yochanan makes the epitome of pragmatic gambles--wagering the entire fate of the Jewish people. In dialogue with the soon-to-be Roman emperor Vespasian, Yochanan tacitly acknowledges the Romans' planned destruction of Jerusalem in return for a plot of land in a town called Yavneh. There, after the razing of Jerusalem, Jews will join with their teacher to reenvision a new Judaism--one not based on Temple rites but on real life in exile--laying the groundwork for today's vibrant Judaism. In Rabbi Marc Katz's novel examination, pragmatism is itself an authentic Jewish strategy for addressing moral questions. The rabbis of the Talmud model the process by demonstrating how to think situationally, weigh competing values, and make hard compromises. Leading rabbis ask, "What will work?" alongside "What is right?" They birth a malleable and nuanced system of law (halakhah) that is faithful to their received tradition and to the people and circumstances before them. By investigating how the rabbis navigate their own ethical challenges--determining truth, upholding compromise, convincing others, keeping peace with neighbors, avoiding infighting, weighing sinning in hopes of promoting a greater good--Yochanan's Gamble forges a new Jewish path forward for resolving moral conundrums in our day.
Counseling Survivors of Religious Abuse
This book identifies and analyzes the forms, causes, and potential treatments of religious abuse. Religious abuse can include experiences of sexual, physical, emotional, spiritual, and mental abuse connected to a religious context. The book will help readers understand different types of religious abuse, including where the perpetrator is a religious leader, a group, or a system, as well as when there is an overtly spiritual element connected to the justification for the abuse. It also describes common experiences of those who have experienced religious abuse and some treatment approaches that will be useful to mental health providers when their clients present with these experiences. The rigorous scholarly approach of this book provides an academically grounded insight into this complex topic. As such, it will be a key reference for those studying and working in Religious Studies, Religion and Psychology, the Sociology of Religion, and Counseling and Mental Health.

From the Divine to the Human
Featuring the work of leading contemporary Muslim philosophers and theologians, this book grapples with various forms of evil and suffering in the world today, from COVID-19 and issues in climate change to problems in palliative care and human vulnerability.Rather than walking down well-trodden paths in philosophy of religion which often address questions of evil and suffering by focusing on divine attributes and the God-world relationship, this volume offers another path of inquiry by focusing on human vulnerability, potential, and resilience. Addressing both the theoretical and practical dimensions of the question of evil, topics range from the transformative power of love, virtue ethics in Sufism and the necessity of suffering, to the spiritual significance of the body and Islamic perspectives on embodiment. In doing so, the contributors propose new perspectives based on various pre-modern and contemporary materials that can enrich the emerging field of the global philosophy of religion, thereby radically transforming contemporary debates on the nature of evil and suffering. The book will appeal to researchers in a variety of disciplines, including Islamic philosophy, religious studies, Sufism, and theology.
Territoriality and Hospitality
In a world where religion is frequently viewed as a source of conflict and division, what can we learn from the harmonious coexistence of Christian and Muslim communities flourishing in Africa and elsewhere? This collaborative work, inspired by the life and legacy of Lamin Sanneh, seeks to highlight valuable lessons from the rich Christian and Muslim traditions of hospitality through bringing together voices and perspectives from diverse backgrounds and contexts, developing a vision for the common good of society. Amplifying a contextual understanding of Christian-Muslim relations, the authors from Africa and across the world reflect on and respond to the cultural themes of territoriality and hospitality, resulting in a comprehensive resource for constructive engagement of the faiths in shared public spaces. Readers invested in the future of Christianity and Islam will learn how these cultural and theological resources are vital for both faiths to live and flourish together in Africa and beyond.
The Sufficiency of Christ
As I went through Colossians, I was reminded once again that Jesus is Lord. That seems so obvious, but somehow we forget from time to time that He is indeed Lord. When we decide to go our own way or we decide to not do what we know God wants us to do, we are saying, "Not so, Lord." Our practical living must be founded on the fact that Jesus is Lord. He is Lord when it pleases me, and He is Lord when I am not so pleased about it. Some situations may cause us to question what the Lord is doing or what He is allowing to happen. But regardless of our circumstances, one truth remains: We can trust Him. The song writer said: "When you can't see His hand, trust His heart."Paul wanted his readers to know Jesus Christ is the Supreme Lord of all. We need to surrender to Him and follow His leading. That is not always easy, but it is always necessary. We cannot live the Christian life by ourselves. The good news is we don't have to. God has given us His Spirit and His Word to teach us and to guide us. What we need to know, God will tell us. What we can't understand, we really don't need to know. Jesus said we must become as little children to enter the kingdom of God. Children trust what they are told and learn to obey what they are told.As we grow in Christ, may we learn to trust and obey. We are the children of God. We need to begin to listen to the Father, and be obedient children. I hope you will remember that Jesus Christ is Lord of your life as you walk with Him. - Tom Hinkle

Ideas of Possession
The idea that an external force can enter an individual and possess their body is prevalent in most cultures across the globe and throughout history. This possession can last for varying lengths of time, and its effects can be considered positive--when a "spirit" provides the individual with powers, abilities, knowledge, or authority--or negative--when the individual suffers and the "spirit" should ideally be cast out, usually through a ritual performed by someone with a designated role. The study of possession remains marginal in most academic disciplines, but current public discourses indicate that the topic remains relevant across modern and postmodern societies. A globalized world has brought about an unprecedented situation in which decidedly different ideas about possession influence one another, and people attribute a wide variety of experiences and behaviors to spiritual possession. There are those who describe themselves as possessed, sometimes as an inherent element of their identities, and those who are labelled as possessed by others, though this label often comes with a stigma. Ideas of Possession brings together scholars of various disciplines to consolidate an ongoing academic discussion on how possession is understood within different cultural contexts. Essays present ideas of possession from Antiquity, Biblical Studies, Religious Studies, History, Ethnology, Anthropology, and Psychology, demonstrating how each field's approach to this subject can benefit from interdisciplinary dialogue as we attempt to make sense of such a broad range of interpretations.

The Voice Within the Wind
This book is a comprehensive and thought-provoking exploration of some of the metaphysical notions that are the foundation of modern Druidic thought and practice. It is a serious and informed contribution to an often-neglected area of the modern Druid Way in which past practice is all too often rekindled without an attendant understanding of past psychology or philosophical perceptions. In this, it is a manifesto for a Druid Way that is both true to its Celtic roots and responsive to the modern world. Greywind is a Hedge Druid. His first steps on the Way were taken more than thirty years ago in the shadow of the Harvest Hill in Lewes. Although his roots are deeply embedded in the south of England and the West Country, his branches currently flourish and flower in the south-west of Scotland.
