The Haunting of Thornham Staithe
A series of hauntings in a Norfolk town, apparently unrelated, attract little attention until the first death occurs. Even then, it is difficult to link the death, which has not been witnessed by any of the townspeople, to the hauntings in any sensible way. Life goes on until further deaths occur, once again unwitnessed. No one is ready to commit themselves to a point of view and, therefore, a plan of action, because no one wants to be seen to believe in ghosts. Eventually, after the publican's psychic supper has created terror in the medium, two ghost hunters (who prefer to call themselves 'paranormal investigators') are called in by the vicar and events take a turn for the worst: several villagers are threatened, a stranger plays his hand with disastrous consequences, the doctor's wife returns from the dead and the village historian (perhaps the only person who has any chance of understanding the connection between the hauntings) is driven to the edge of sanity. The vicar, who has been a central figure all along, decides he must act with or without his bishop's permission or even his wife's agreement, and decides to call upon the help of an old priest, once the Deliverance Minister of his diocese.
Ghost In Theory
Paul Shreeve is an English professor who gets mistaken for a ghost by his neighbors. Though a man of strict rationality and analysis, he cannot shake his ghostly identity, nor will his neighbors allow him to forget. The ghost moves into his thoughts, his work, and his family and begins to chew at his very existence. His head, which drove his entire life, is confounded by something he can't quite touch. His ghosted self drives him to the fringes of rationality and beyond as he looks for something, anything, to help drive it away.Full of larger-than-life departmental intrigues and wacky adventures, Ghost In Theory is an unfortunately all-too-accurate look into the daily life of an academic. What is real? What is imagined? What is metaphor? Protagonist and reader alike can only guess, as Shreeve's mental deterioration reveals tragedies both immediate and historical. A must-read for anyone who has ever attended a faculty meeting.
Wolf at the Door

Or is family dysfunction what really rattles your nerves? Look no further than Wolf at the Door, winner of the 2022 Global Book Award gold medal for horror, an absurdist take on creature horror revolving around a holiday dinner gone horribly wrong. All Charlotte Deerborn wanted was a nice Thanksgiving dinner with family and friends. Too bad for her no one else wanted to be there. By the time the turkey is carved, old grievances, bad behavior, and crass remarks have transformed her dinner party into a disaster. And then a werewolf shows up to do some carving of its own.Filled with snappy dialogue, relatable characters and laugh-out-loud moments, Wolf at the Door is a pulpy page-turner in the classic sense.
Gold, Ghosts, and Woolly's
Gold, Ghosts and Woollys is a fictional work, conceived solely for the entertainment of the reader. The story unfolds, to the sheer delight, of a child with a vivid imagination before the age of radio, T.V., telephones, cellphones, and computers. Household electricity was still in the future. Entertainment was tall tale telling.Such was my life, raised by grandparents, about to start school in 1948, a long way from town and all its conveniences. In that long ago age, people still talked to one another. Old folks could still talk to kids - and kids, could still talk to adults. In that long ago age where, God, family, country, and compassion for our fellow man, governed our lives. What affected one, affected all. The isolation of today was unknown back then. Self-reliance and reliance on our fellowman was expected and accepted. Gold Ghosts and Woollys is a fictional portrayal of a time lost in this modern world. My heartfelt hope is that the reader of this tall tale enjoys the view of the world, now lost in today's insanity, posed as progress.

Nadderwater Rise Ghost
The case at Nadderwater Rise Boilermakers left an enduring impression upon me. The Professor and I witnessed first-hand how machines can turn on their masters. When directed by a malevolent force, the results were utterly brutal. As if horrid conditions are not enough, the culture of harassment ingrained into the workers only makes it worse. Their daily lives are already drenched in danger, subject to severe injury without notice, yet they persist in tormenting each other, to their peril. This is the eighth book in the Paranormology Series.

The Turn of the Screw
"The place, with its grey sky and withered garlands, its barred spaces and the scattered dead leaves, was like a theatre after the performance-all strewn with crumpled playbills. When a novice governess is hired to look after a young brother and sister in a country estate, weird things start to happen. The governess notices a ghostly man and lady wandering around the grounds, and it quickly becomes evident that the children are somehow linked to these ghosts. The young governess tries to shield the children from something, but she isn't sure what. The Turn of the Screw is a spooky and unnerving Victorian masterwork that tackles the psychological and sexual concerns of a period. It is regarded as one of the finest ghost stories ever written.
Indian Ghost Stories
A collection of twelve stories about the supernatural. In reality, these aren't strictly twelve stories. Firstly, they are supposedly true stories, and not meant to be fictitious (since the author clearly mentions that so-and-so anecdote came to him by way of this gentleman or that, the veracity of each story may be questioned). Secondly, these aren't just twelve anecdotes, but more since the author begins a story with an anecdote, finishes it, and then goes on to related anecdotes,

Semper Fi with a Side of Donuts or Bacon
Semper Fi with a Side of Donuts or Bacon is a hybrid of fact and fiction. The story is set in 1989, Quantico, Virginia, from the perspective of Abe Rush, a woman Marine Corps captain. She is unexpectedly reassigned to train second lieutenants at the officers' Basic School (TBS), and the backbone of the story is her experiences instructing and, in many cases, suffering along with these newbies as they transition from commissioned civilians to Marine officers. This theme is largely biographical, based on the author's personal experiences. When Abe transferred from Okinawa to Quantico, she returned with more than uniforms and souvenirs. She unknowingly brought back the ghost of a World War II Marine gunnery sergeant. He has neither memory of his name nor where he was born, even how he died, but Abe and her friend Kelly (a Marine lawyer) assume he was killed at the Battle of Okinawa in 1945. While Kelly researches Marine Corps records, Abe subjects Gunny to TV shows that might jog his memory, though both Kelly's and Abe's efforts are largely unsuccessful. Gunny endures the programmed viewing and, despite Abe's intentions, becomes a TV junkie, enamored with anything related to John Wayne or football or ALF. And he's particularly fond of donuts and bacon, which he can't taste but can certainly smell.Gunny's perspective on the roles of women, particularly women in the military, is obviously dated. However, his perceptions of female officers and women, in general, evolves, and he gradually and grudgingly acknowledges their changed roles in the military and society almost fifty years after his death.Gunny's name and history are eventually revealed but with a unique twist, neither he nor Abe could have imagined.

The Shrieking Skull and Other Victorian Christmas Ghost Stories
Thirteen rare tales by the most prolific Victorian Christmas ghost story author, collected and republished for the first time!Move over, Charles Dickens! The author of "A Christmas Carol" may be the most famous Victorian author of Christmas ghost stories, but the king of the genre was James Skipp Borlase (1839-1909), who published dozens of them in obscure British and Australian periodicals during a nearly fifty-year span. Now for the first time, thirteen of Borlase's best tales have been unearthed from newspaper archives and compiled in a single volume for modern readers. In "A Weird Wooing" (1898) an impecunious suitor braves a house haunted by the ghosts of plague victims in search of a legendary treasure. "The Steel-Bound Valise" (1875) tells of a horrid murder and a spectral vision that reveals the truth behind the awful deed. In "A Bride from the Dead" (1899), a man races against time on horseback to save his beloved from a forced marriage-but arrives too late to prevent an even more horrible and macabre fate. This volume showcases Borlase's wide range, featuring macabre and bone-chilling stories alongside more lighthearted pieces, all of them just as entertaining to read on a winter's night as they were more than a century ago.
