Julius Julius
With biting wit, Aurora Stewart de Pe簽a satirizes the creative industry she's spent years in. From the people who brought you the invention of advertising comes Julius Julius, a rambling architectural wonder, outpost of the very first ad man of ancient Pompeii, built on the backs of generations of creative survivors who just want to lie on the floor of a conference room and cry about the lumber account without being sexually harassed. Welcome to the world's oldest advertising agency, where ghosts control the board room AC, an ancient executive assistant runs a cave full of thousand year old billboards, and there are bones in the walls. In a trio of voices from different time periods, we move through the mythical Agency, interrogating the process of stoking desire for a living. We meet the Senior Brand Anthropologist, who's being surprised by dirty bars of Irish Spring she can't remember buying, the Creative Director, whose ascent involved an ad campaign starring his dead best friend, and the Account Supervisor, whose only crime is not being a genius. (But the Fisherman Jack Tuna Campaign was her idea, despite what it says on the awards submissions.) Stewart de Pe簽a's debut novel reveals the cracks in the veneer of the creative industries, and the crisis of consciousness underneath in a novel full of compassion, humour, and blonde sausage dogs.

Ghost Stories and Weird Tales
This volume collects the first two compilations of ghost stories written by H. Russell Wakefield (They Return at Evening and Others Who Returned) and six stories published in Weird Tales. Wakefield represented the end of the original 'antiquarian ghost story' authors, staying true to form while many others transitioned to more ghoulish or Lovecraftian horrors. "The ghostly influences at work in these stories are all malignant, powerful. One seeks in vain to escape the sinister fate that they bring. Wakefield does not dispel the ghastly atmosphere by explaining as natural phenomena, his ghosts. He leaves them there, ghosts to the end. They are horrible and fantastic, and fearsome." (1928 review)"These are stories of lasting quality, stories which should go on the library shelf, to be read or reread on dark Winter evenings. They are far superior in plot to many of the so-called classics of the Victorian era, and every bit as finely written." (1929 review)

Tales of the Banshee
To hear the Banshee's cry is considered to be an ill-omen as she is supposed to come for the purpose of forewarning death. She does this by melancholy wailing, appearing in the form of a young and beautiful woman, dressed in white - but she comes more frequently as a frightful old hag or else as a mere 'voice'.The origin of the Banshee is lost in the mist of antiquity. In some parts of the country she is known as the bean chaointe (keening woman) and in other places, particularly in Wexford, as the badhb which is described in Dineen's dictionary as a 'female fairy or phantom said to be attached to certain families, appearing as a scaldcrow or roystoncrow'. The bird connection predominates in the old sagas - one landing on Cuchulain's shoulder as he lay dying, tied to the stone pillar.Tales of the Banshee is a fascinating and exciting collection of stories about the exploits of Banshees.

The Ghost Stories of Edith Wharton
Selected & Introduced by David Stuart Davies. Traumatised by ghost stories in her youth, Pulitzer Prize winning author Edith Wharton (1862 -1937) channelled her fear and obsession into creating a series of spine-tingling tales filled with spirits beyond the grave and other supernatural phenomena. While claiming not to believe in ghosts, paradoxically she did confess that she was frightened of them. Wharton imbues this potent irrational and imaginative fear into her ghostly fiction to great effect. In this unique collection of finely wrought tales Wharton demonstrates her mastery of the ghost story genre. Amongst the many supernatural treats within these pages you will encounter a married farmer bewitched by a dead girl; a ghostly bell which saves a woman's reputation; the weird spectral eyes which terrorise the midnight hours of an elderly aesthete; the haunted man who receives letters from his dead wife; and the frightening power of a doppelganger which foreshadows a terrible tragedy. Compelling, rich and strange, the ghost stories of Edith Wharton, like vintage wine, have matured and grown more potent with the passing years.

The Ghastling
In 'Faun' by N.J. Carr矇, a woman living alone in a neighbourhood plagued by antisocial behaviour has a strange synergy with a creature she encounters in the woodlands by her house. Terrified, she begins to think the faun is sent to protect her somehow...'A Grave for a Dead Horse' by J.P. Relph, the allure of a swinging rope hung above a deep pit is tempting for a group of early teens with nothing much else to do. But the game goes horribly wrong for one member of the party. Another macabre children's game (they often are, aren't they?) leads these sadistic revellers to discover something far worse: Cheryl, the quiet friend, (because there's always one) is perhaps a little too quiet and a little too willing in this very creepy tale, 'Stacking Coffins' by Josh Hanson. Ava DeVries' story, 'Only Carrion', is a dark and brooding exploration of death and mortality. A woman receives visitations from birds after her miscarriage, and then, every time there is a death, a 'wake' of vultures begin to close in... In 'Tear-Sippers' by Vonnie Winslow Crist, professor Floella Greer, an ambitious academic and expert in lepidoptera - in particular the variety of Tear-Sipping moths. Determined to forge ahead with her research plans despite the interventions of the misogynistic Professor Bogdan, she does something rather unethical to get her way... We've all coveted, cherished something belonging to a beloved relation. But what if it was really a part of them? In this eerie tale, a young woman inherits much more than a simple object, in Isobel Leach's 'My Grandmother's Glass Eye'. It is summertime in a seaside town, the light shimmers and Billy loves Laurel. Everything is almost perfect, almost. But laurel has a strange and occasional habit of disappearing - just not in the way you might think in Fiona Cameron's story, 'Freaks'. On a miserable corner of the coastline, two old friends, Daniel and Bramble, meet to chat on a dilapidated bench overlooking the sea. But Bramble has the sensation he is being watched (pursued?) by a figure in a yellow raincoat, a figure sent to remind him of something he'd rather forget in Tom Preston's tale, 'Bramble'. In Timothy Fox's folk horror, 'Listening Wood', a young boy, raised by his father, haunted by the legend of his mother, keeps returning to the woods where she was found.
Ghost Stories
Eight frightening stories of interactions with the paranormal; a series of life experiences. From the time that I was very little, I have always been fascinated with the paranormal; perhaps it is because I have a very active imagination or, unlikely as it sounds, I have had a lifetime of unexplained activities.I have always been open to things that are, let's say, unexplained. Science tells us we need to question things when we can't explain. Unfortunately, there are two extremely polarizing viewpoints, when it comes to the "Paranormal." The word: "Paranormal," is itself, an example of one side; as frequent as it has been for people to experience these ghostly activities, and with all the eyewitness accounts, we still classify these events as "Not Normal" or something parallel to what we wish to believe as normal. In my book, I tell these stories as a witness to the paranormal and I leave it to you whether to believe or not. My hope is that you enjoy them for what they are...stories. These are of course, for your entertainment.
