Told after supper
It was Christmas Eve. I begin this way because it is the proper, orthodox, respectable way to begin, and I have been brought up in a proper, orthodox, respectable way, and taught to always do the proper, orthodox, respectable thing; and the habit clings to me. Of course, as a mere matter of information it is quite unnecessary to mention the date at all. The experienced reader knows it was Christmas Eve, without my telling him. It always is Christmas Eve, in a ghost story.

Second Thoughts of an Idle Fellow
Occasionally a friend will ask me some such question as this, Do you prefer dark women or fair? Another will say, Do you like tall women or short? A third, Do you think light-hearted women, or serious, the more agreeable company? I find myself in the position that, once upon a time, overtook a certain charming young lady of taste who was asked by an anxious parent, the years mounting, and the family expenditure not decreasing, which of the numerous and eligible young men, then paying court to her, she liked the best. She replied, that was her difficulty. She could not make up her mind which she liked the best. They were all so nice. She could not possibly select one to the exclusion of all the others. What she would have liked would have been to marry the lot, but that, she presumed, was impracticable. I feel I resemble that young lady, not so much, perhaps, in charm and beauty as indecision of mind, when questions such as the above are put to me. It is as if one were asked one's favourite food.

The joy of jumping in puddles
The tales of a middle-age grump, standing in the backyard howling at the moon, lamenting the good old days of his youth compared to the kids of today. Glenn writes of his childhood growing up in 1970's Australia. It was a time when cooking oil was an acceptable sunscreen. For children back then entertainment was reliant mainly on imagination alone, as the internet had yet to rule our lives and parental involvement was non-existent. With that imagination and a lack of foresight to danger that boys possess, moronic misadventures were commonplace. Glenn recounts many well-trodden stories that sound hilarious now but could have ended his short life countless times. Stories such as; shootings a brother down from a tree, getting hit by a train whilst playing on the tracks or revelling in the lethal pleasures of the annual Cracker Night, where any yob including kids could buy war surplus quantities of explosives over the milk bar counter, no questioned asked...what could possibly go wrong?
In Defense of Animalhood
Sharing the planet with other species can go awry at times. This collection of humor expresses just how twisted things can get. From Miami macaws trying to protect their young from poachers to captive polar bears wanting nothing more than to hunt seals on the Arctic ice to circus tigers loathing performance, animals have had it. In Defense of Animalhood gives animal lovers a front-row seat to the misadventures experienced by wildlife-and they're crossing their paws, fins, and feathers, hoping you'll sympathize with their plight.
Bossing
Maybe my name doesn't sound all that much and exciting to you, it's a common name just like any other... But I'm sure that what got you to buy this book was quite probably my surname or better yet the verb conjugation of it. I'm not entirely sure if in your county, in your language there is a single word or a definition, but one thing I'm sure of is that the exact same concept exists all right! Maybe it has origins like in Latin, Italian or maybe it was born in a completely different place... undoubtedly it was born along with man and evolved beside him... even to the present day.

Are You Going To Eat That?
"Melanie McGuire was indicted for murdering her husband, after he washed ashore, in parts, on the Virginia coast, neatly packed into three trunks of his own monogrammed luggage." How this event can be spit-out-your-coffee funny is the subject of Are You Going To Eat That?, a book of fifty-eight hilarious stories. Short, irreverent, preposterous-like Danny DeVito, if he were an essay. Says Jeff Koterba, editorial cartoonist for the World-Herald: "I don't know if David Sedaris blogs, but if he does, his postings might read like one of Michael Campbell's hilarious essays." Michael Campbell is an editor and regular columnist for Food & Spirits Magazine. For fifteen years he has written for nationally-distributed entertainment newsletters Coffee Break and Facts of Life, and his humor has appeared in numerous issues of Reader's Digest. His weekly blog, MC, reaches thousands of readers.

Cartooning China
This book explores the series of cartoons of China and the Chinese that were published in the popular British satirical magazine Punch over a sixty-year period from 1841 to 1901. Filled with political metaphors and racial stereotypes, these illustrations served as a powerful tool in both reflecting and shaping notions and attitudes towards China at a tumultuous time in Sino-British history. A close reading of both the visual and textual satires in Punch reveals how a section of British society visualised and negotiated with China as well as Britain's position in the global community. By contextualising Punch's cartoons within the broader frameworks of British socio-cultural and political discourse, the author engages in a critical enquiry of popular culture and its engagements with race, geopolitical propaganda, and public consciousness. With a wide array of illustrations, this book in the Global Perspectives in Comics Studies series will be an important resource for scholars and researchers of cultural studies, political history and Empire, Chinese studies, popular culture, Victoriana, as well as media studies. It will also be of interest to readers who want to learn more about Punch, its history, and Sino-British relations.

Down a Notch
Down a Notch: A Journey of Self-ExplorationBy: Shady RockDown a Notch: A Journey of Self-Exploration is about telling a person who needs to be taken "down a notch" exactly how people really see them. Down a Notch is unique in its unfiltered honesty about a fictitious person that may be real in your personal life.About the AuthorShady Rock has been a writer and entertainer since 1995 for the Central Florida area as a DJ, musician, and spoken word artist. Bevitized!
From the very moment of our birth, comparisons begin. It takes a while but we eventually realize we all enter into this world destined to create our unique existence that some will cherish, some will dismiss and some will celebrate. We share similarities but our perceptions differ. We share experiences but our results are varied. We mimic each other but remain unique. If you enjoy strolls sifting through memories with someone you feel you've known your entire life you'll enjoy being Bevitized. You'll experience a rather delightful journey of short stories that will extrude emotions you may have had tucked away in that hypothetical suitcase you tend to hang on to for reasons beyond your realm of understanding. Perhaps they're emotions that might need a bit of dusting off. I know I've had some that did and I am sharing some of them with you. Bevitized is about me but it's also about you. It's about feeling and experiencing and realizing we are all unique....Y-o-u-nique. We are all here for a reason and everyone's reason is worth celebrating!

PLOTS, Part II
Plots, Part II is a Jay Dubya acronym that represents a compilation of certain famous works by authors Edgar Allan Poe, Jack London, O. Henry, Mark Twain and William Shakespeare. Every good story indeed has a plot, or an essential problem (or problems) that must be solved. The problem can either be a direct physical threat, or an imagined mental/emotional crisis existing within the main character's mind, or perhaps the problem is represented by various combinations of those separate elements. In any case, the main problem must be addressed and/or especially solved during the story. The particular stories selected by the author have been uniquely corrupted and then creatively rewritten into adult satirical style, where Jay Dubya effectively uses adult language and situations, thus adroitly modifying the general integrity of the original works.

The Gospel of Zilch & Nada
Null, I bring you good news! The Great Nobody in the Sky cares about you! The whole Non-Pantheon is patiently awaiting for your personal arrival into the Great Nothingness that comes After. And whether you become a Non-believer like the Non-Prophet or remain a non-believer, the Truth within this Gospel is undeniable: These Deities have NOTHING IMPORTANT to say to you! The Gospel of Zilch & Nada is a blasphemously crude religious parody that makes sense of Everything with Nothing by using the mathematical formulas provided by the Theory of Nothing. The anti-cult cult of Dimensionalism (the Go-Your-Own-Way) loosely followed by the Zilchrealites will rock the world harder than God "doing Nothing" on the 7th day.
Life's Memorable Moments
Life's Memorable Moments: A Collection of Short Stories. In his debut book, McGarrey shares a series of light-hearted stories about his life, including numerous mishaps and often awkward moments that readers will find amusing and fun."Get ready to get a good laugh and a look into some of the events in my life that helped shape me," said McGarrey, who was in the U.S. Army infantry for almost 8 years. "I want people to think of their own memorable moments after reading my book, and see that it's the embarrassing and sometimes hard things that give us the best memories."McGarrey set out to write this book to reassure others that everyone has both bad and good things that happen to them over a lifetime. But, when you compare, the bad times usually make up only about one percent compared to the joyous moments, he says. The author includes many short stories, including tales about a fishing debacle, a construction mishap, and an embarrassing moment on the beach."Michael's book will definitely bring joy and encouragement to many readers with his feel-good series of stories," said Chris Schafer, CEO at Tactical 16 Publishing. In Defense of the Eighties
Growing up in the eighties meant you might have participated in confusing fashion trends, mixed your own music, and generally lived in a more carefree time. Fusions of pop and rock were produced by glamorous hair bands of the day-with hairspray defining the entire decade. In fact, everything was larger than life in the eighties. Relive the days of ultra-neon colors, corded telephones, and ubiquitous leg warmers in In Defense of the Eighties, and indulge in the idiosyncrasies that made the eighties one of the most recognizable and unforgettable decades ever.
