Yuan attacks mid-life and its fears with vigor, humor, and truth in a book of insightful and entertaining vignettes about foggy memory, failing vision, fading dreams, and an aging physique. Sometimes sweet, sometimes poignant, occasionally biting, but always truthful, Cheer Up . . . You're Only Half Dead is written with the eyes of a child, the mind of a philosopher, the artistry of a plastic surgeon, the grace of an accomplished violinist, and the insight of an enlightened middle-ager. Readers young, old, and in-between will nod with understanding and laugh with familiarity, while being encouraged to squeeze all they can out of life.
The Go the Fuck to Sleep Box Set
"You've probably heard of the book Go the F**k to Sleep and its two sequels--You Have to F**king Eat and F**k, Now There Are Two of You. But did you know it's been a full decade since the first book become a brilliant and hilarious phenomenon?" --FatherlyTen years ago, Adam Mansbach crystallized the secret agony of parents the world over with one simple phrase: Go the Fuck to Sleep. In verses that perfectly capture the familiar tribulations of putting your little angel down for the night, the book opened up a conversation about parenting, granting us permission to admit our frustrations, and laugh at their absurdity . . . and the message only resonated louder when Samuel L. Jackson, the bard of the F-word, read the audiobook. You Have to Fucking Eat expanded the conversation to include parenthood's other universal frustration: getting your little angel to eat something that even vaguely resembles a normal meal, with Bryan Cranston voicing the audiobook . . . and because life moves pretty fast, Fuck, Now There Are Two of You soon became necessary, to address the fact that two is, somehow, a million more kids than one--with Larry David doing the audiobook honors. And now, to celebrate a decade of profane, loving, and deeply cathartic children's books for adults, the entire trilogy is finally available in a collectors'-edition boxed set, perfect for gifting at a baby shower or using to knock yourself unconscious. As always . . . you probably should not read these books to a child.

Christopher Guest and I have a collection of original cartoons, and we love our Joe Dator!" --Jamie Lee Curtis From inspiration to conception and all the trials in-between. Filled with more than 150 of Dator's single-panel cartoons, this lively, quick-witted book betrays a deadpan sense of humor. But Inked is more than a book of cartoons. Dator also dives into the creative process, offering bonus commentary on how ideas have come to fruition, how one idea has led to another, and the various attempts to get an idea right. Along the way, he shows how a spark of imagination has turned into a laugh-out-loud moment with only a single image and caption, and how other attempts have found themselves on the cutting-room floor.

Following the original A Ragbag of Riches published in 2017, here is another bundle of funny, factual, thought provoking and charming entries to "mingle quiet music with amiable irreverance". Not just witty, pithy quips and quotations but a diverse collection that have caught the eye or ear of James Chilton's enquiring mind and zany humour. Drawing from politicians, scholars, artists, influential thinkers, jokers and the common man, from antiquity to the contemporary, they are partisan choices contributed to by Chilton's varied life as a soldier, traveller, singer, plantsman, author, painter, busnessman, designer and family man. It is the essence of the commonplace book but organised loosely into topics and enhanced by the sparkling illustrations of cartoonist Charlie Dunn. In addition and where possible, each author of the various entries has their dates added and a few relevant (and sometimes irrelevant) notes on their lives. From John Arlott to Boris Yeltsin (there is a useful index), from the trivial to the profound, from razor sharp criticism to poignant tributes, this is a book for all occasions. Each anecdote, musing, poem or prayer showcases humanity's variety. Whether to mine for speeches, to raise a smile in low moments, to inform or to entertain, Another Ragbag of Riches will provoke and delight. It is perfect for the bedside, for travel, for browsing and for present giving.
PLOTS, CLOTS and CALAMITY
PLOTS, CLOTS and CALAMITY is a satirical adaptation of Mark McKirdy's doctoral thesis on James Cook's first great ocean voyage in the Pacific from 1769 to 1771. The featured characters were all on board Cook's ship Endeavour and the places visited are authentic. Actual historical events and famous figures contemporary to the 18th century are also interwoven in order to create a greater sense of accuracy. The many insults and expletives uttered by various characters are also authentic to the period and provide added humor and interest. Cook has been given warmth and a reflective disposition, which are evident when he occasionally thinks about his family and his childhood. This juxtaposition of life's breadbasket laughs with the unleavened sour dough of sadness and regret is deliberate because not everything people experience is funny. In his official ship's log, Captain Cook wrote that the Endeavour ran aground on a Queensland reef near Cape Tribulation in June, 1770 because of the inconstancy of unfamiliar waters. According to PLOTS, CLOTS and CALAMITY, this was a lie to preserve the reputations of certain prominent British 'gentlemen' and the ship's crew. Two years later, nagged by his conscience and his wife Elizabeth, Cook wrote his 'truthful' account which, unsurprisingly, was suppressed by the Admiralty. Risking personal shame, public disgrace and an end to his naval career, Cook courageously reveals that it was the constant, all too familiar misconduct of his crew and gentlemanly companions that inevitably led to the disaster. In chilling detail, Cook recounts myriad examples of criminal and morally reprehensible behaviour on board ship and on land; violent feuds, playing knock-and-run after midnight, licentiousness, unkempt eyebrows, insubordination, undisguised toe-nail biting, low types plotting high treason, thefts, unused soap-on-a-rope, unauthorised Bunking-With-a-Buddy, desertion, involvement in amateur theatre, dereliction of duty, serious belief in numerology, gross incompetence in the ranks, rank incontinence through the cook's slop and sneaky smoking in the ship's magazine, most of which occurred even as the Endeavour sailed up the Thames River at the start of its voyage in August, 1768.PLOTS, CLOTS and CALAMITY will shock readers throughout the entire English-speaking world and New Zealand.

Chapin’s World
Chapin's World is purely a figment of the author's warped imagination, so please don't report him to the authorities because there is nothing that can be done. He was born thinking like this. And, it was inevitable that his mind would be unleashed upon an unsuspecting public. Chapin's World, subtitled A Mid Amid is a book-of-life as seen through the green, 'mid-life' eyes of a member of a highly exploited (as of yet, unentitled) minority - redheads! It is a collection of humorous short stories of the author's early life, family camping-trip shenanigans, vacation pranks and mishaps, and how he grew to be 'mid' in America's Heartland. His light-hearted style allows the reader a chance to experience unpleasant circumstances with humor, and to tag along as he turns the most simple of situations into full-blown calamities. Chapin's narrative of his childhood reads like a tale by a modern day Samuel Clemens. The stories progress randomly through his life to include 'mid-- with -- kid.' Chapin's World will drag you along with Chapin, his family, and a few 'less-than role model' friends into, but not out of 'mid-life.' the author is determined to find your funny bone even if he has to use a chainsaw. A Mid Amid contains twenty-seven mildly amusing, yet wildly outrageous tales by the 'Master of Personal Disaster.' In case you are unaware of Chapin's writing style, he has used the formula of mixing equal, half-portions of wit and narrative. Chapin has now become quite distinguished for his 'half-wit' humor. But, such is Chapin's World. If you or a loved one is struggling through the 'mid-life' crisis (or if you just have the strange urge to help a confessed liar succeed) then Chapin's World - A Mid Amid is surely required reading.

Fantsch
Perf
We believe perfectionism is the gift of Oscar-winning directors, self-made millionaires, and valedictorians. Comparing ourselves to the flawlessly accomplished reminds us of how imperfect we personally are. We create a negative loop of constant dissatisfaction and distort reality to say we are nothing. And that, my friends, is the glamor of perfectionism. Perf: The Unspoken Flaws in a "Perfect" Culture explores what it really means to live in a culture that encourages "perfection." This book uncovers the truth beneath the romanticized mindset of a perfectionist and their unrelenting quest to do, have, and be the best in the intersection of perfectionism, mental health, and mainstream culture. While Chloe unpacks The American Dream or socioeconomic institutions such as education and market-based economies, she jabs humor at her own perfectionism as a student, employee, family member, and partner. By exploring everything from celebrity examples like Billie Eilish, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and Gordon Ramsay, to chicken parmesan recipes, to stand-up comedy, Perf points out where perfectionism becomes dangerous, despite larger cultural messages that tell us we need to earn our worth. If you are tired of seeking out other people's approval or want to laugh a little bit at someone else's perfectionism, this is the book for you.
