Patina Volkswagens
This updated and revised edition includes 67 new images, with updated photos of builds from the first edition and cooler, fresh builds featuring more Volkswagen Beetles. Also included is a brand-new section on the builds of patina Volkswagen specialists HR Autoworks.Since the early 2000s, the apparent explosion of interest in Volkswagens with original paint, rust and patina has inspired a generation of car fanatics, who might not be able to afford to restore a car to show condition, but still want a good looking, cool car that will stand out from the crowd.Once looked upon as being in need of restoration, cars with original paint, rust and patina, especially within the global Volkswagen community, have gradually become far more popular than restored cars. When walking down a line of cars at a car show, it's easy to see why; these cars are rare, unspoiled survivors - cars that tell a story of an interesting and varied past. The look of the Volkswagens being built in this style is so honest, unspoiled and characterful, that it has begun to inspire the media; even Hollywood movie stars and celebrities. Whilst this has undoubtedly resulted in increased car values, and turned a brand of cars that had always been a cheap, honest mode of transportation into something cool with a high price tag, the generation it initially inspired has grown with the hobby, and produced a micro-industry that still manages to embrace the 'Built not bought' ethos. This book, superbly illustrated with stunning colour photographs, takes an inside look at some of the key car builders, dealers, celebrities and hobbyists, as well as the different styles of build, meaning every single car has a style all its own.Foreword by Drew Pritchard of TV's 'Salvage Hunters' fame.

Ike's Road Trip
All roads begin somewhere and today's U. S. highway system began with an exploratory, cross-country ride, led by 28-year-old Army lieutenant colonel, Dwight Eisenhower. This is the story of that coast-to-coast journey and how the dream of connecting America with roads began. Before he led the liberation of Europe, before he became our nation's 34th President, Dwight D. Eisenhower's made a road trip in 1919 from Washington D.C. to California. The expedition proved to be a crucial chapter in the history of America as it laid the groundwork to make automobile travel the fastest and easiest way to move around the country, also setting in motion the nation's future love affair with cheap crude. The 1919 Transcontinental Motor Convoy of eighty-one trucks and other military vehicles traveled more than 3,000 precarious miles along the most famous road of the day, the Lincoln Highway, which ran between New York City and San Francisco. World War I had illustrated the importance of being able to move large amounts of troops and equipment quickly over long distances, and Eisenhower's mission was to evaluate whether the country's emerging network of paved roadways could handle such a task. It was an experience Eisenhower would never forget. Decades later, as president, he drew on that experience to push through the Interstate Highway Act of 1956. Ike's Road Trip adds an important chapter to the story of the midwestern president who is often seen as "America's grandfather." Eisenhower will also be seen as a modern visionary during a pivotal moment: his persistent trust in cheap petroleum proved to be a blueprint for modern America as he helped facilitate the most significant energy transition of the twentieth century. Today, we are experiencing perhaps the most important energy transition since Eisenhower's day--from petroleum to renewables--and that change will require minds as equally visionary as his.

The Complete Book of AMC Cars
Get an inside look at the American automaker that rose from the decline of a once-thriving independent auto industry to put up a valiant fight against Detroit's Big Three automakers. In The Complete Book of AMC Cars: American Motors Corporation 1954-1988, authors Patrick Foster and Tom Glatch provide a thorough and fully illustrated review of all the production cars offered by AMC from its founding in 1954 to its demise in 1988, including: RamblerMetropolitanAmbassadorRebelMarlinGremlinHornetMatadorAMX/JavelinPacerEagleJeepBorn from the ashes of Hudson and Nash, AMC represented a last attempt at survival for an independent automobile company. Thanks to the capable leadership of CEO George Romney, the company not only survived but thrived, riding on the success of the firm's small, economical cars like the Rambler. As the market began to shift more toward performance and luxury cars in the 1960s, AMC found itself challenged to compete with the output from Ford, Chrysler, and General Motors. The fuel crisis of the 1970s positioned AMC's smaller cars to refill corporate coffers. The firm's purchase of the Jeep brand also generated profits, but ultimately it was too little, too late. Even a partnership with French automaker Renault and the introduction of the all-wheel-drive Eagle couldn't save AMC. In 1987, Chrysler Corporation purchased AMC and the story of the last independent automaker came to an end. Foster and Glatch's engaging book covers all of the AMC models, as well as racing exploits, from its inception to its ultimate demise. Whether you are an AMC enthusiast or are simply intrigued by cars and the stories behind them, this volume is a must-have for your bookshelf.

This is a comprehensive study of the career of one type of rally car - the BMC Mini-Cooper/Mini-Cooper S. In the 1960s the Mini became famous as Britain's most successful rally car. Because Minis were British, and well-promoted, they became seen as giant-killers, and were the people's favourite for many years. The Big Black Motorbike Ride
Most stories are journeys one way or another. Sometimes they contain several other stories within them, all entwined like strands in a rope. This journey-the first big ride for this couple - is one of those stories. It began in the north of England, swept briefly through Belgium, across France over the Pyrenees, southward through Spain to the Mediterranean shore in Andalucia before turning northwards again through western Spain into Portugal, through the heights of the Picos de Europa and so back to the south coast of England by ship and a final long chilly ride homewards. This story, frequently humorous and occasionally poignant, is about him, about her and about them together. It is a story about how it all began, where they went, what they saw, who they met, what they learned and what had happened in the places they visited before they arrived. It is a story of ups and downs-literal and figurative, wise choices, outright blunders and uncanny good fortune. It is, of course, a story about motorcycles and long distance motorcycling and about one motorbike in particular - a 1137cc sports tourer-as black as a panther and as swift as the wind. This book is less of a travel guide than a tale about travelling. Most of all it is an entertainment for everyone who enjoys riding motorbikes and those who like the idea of heading off for an adventure together with someone they love astride two wheels and an engine.

Automotive Upholstery & Interior Restoration
The photos in this edition are black and white. If there is one thing Ford enthusiasts have learned over the years, it's that deciphering which Ford parts work with which Ford engines is a far more difficult task than with many other engine families. Will Cleveland heads fit on my Windsor block? Can I build a stroker engine with factory parts? Can I gain compression by using older-model cylinder heads, and will it restrict flow? Is there a difference between Windsor 2-barrel and 4-barrel heads? These are just a few examples of common questions Ford fans have. These and many other questions are examined in this all-new update of a perennial best seller. Thoroughly researched and, unlike previous editions, now focused entirely on the small-block Windsor and Cleveland engine families, Ford Small Block Engine Parts Interchange includes critical information on Ford's greatest small-block engines and goes into great detail on the highly desirable high-performance hardware produced throughout the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s. By combining some of the best parts from various years, some great performance potential can be unlocked in ways Ford never offered to the general public. Following the advice in Ford Small-Block Engine Parts Interchange, these engine combinations can become reality. You will find valuable information on cranks, blocks, heads, cams, intakes, rods, pistons, and even accessories to guide you through your project. Author George Reid has once again done extensive research to accurately deliver a thorough and complete collection of Ford small-block information in this newly revised edition. Knowing what internal factory engine parts can be used across the wide range of production Ford power plants is invaluable to the hot rodder and swap meet/eBay shopper. Whether building a stroker Cleveland or a hopped-up Windsor, this book is an essential guide.

This engine powered the Valiants when they swept the top seven positions in the newly christened compact race that precluded the Daytona 500. This manual takes the reader step by step through the fuel injection system and the retrofitting of a TPI system to a typical Chevy small block motor. Covers 1985 to 1992 TPI systems.
Mexican Police Cars
Mexican police cars are very colorful and much loved by children. Law enforcement services in Mexico are shared between federal, border, traffic, state and municipal police. The two main police forces with national remit are the uniform police called Policia Federal and the plainclothed criminal investigations force called Policia Federal Ministerial (PFM). Mexico is a very beautiful country with a rich history and very diverse population. Unfortunately the drug business with the USA makes the country dangerous for many people. Most Mexicans are very proud of their country, and their musical culture is fantastic, with many great singers and many more wonderful musical bands and dance traditions. The authors have made a similar book on American police cars and the styles have similarity between the two countries. We hope you will enjoy our selection of photos.
German Fire Engines
The Feuerwehr (German: fire defence) is a number of German fire departments. The responsible bodies for operating and equipping fire departments are the German communities ("Gemeinden") and cities ("St瓣dte"). By law, they are required to operate fire-fighting forces. In cities, this is usually performed by the Fire Prevention Bureau, one of the higher-ranking authorities. There are three kinds of firefighters in Germany: the predominant number of Germany's 1,383,730 firefighters are members of voluntary fire brigades (Freiwillige Feuerwehr), a lesser number are working in professional fire brigades and the smallest are the drafted members of a Compulsory Fire Service (Pflichtfeuerwehr), established just in a few places nationwide. Here we look at some of their flashy vehicles. We hope you will enjoy our selection of photos.
French Fire Engines
Fire fighting engines are brightly colored, red or yellow and shiny chrome. Their sirens ask people kindly to get out of the way, because here is now an emergency. Children loves these vehicles and their heroes. Napoleon Bonaparte is generally attributed as creating the first professional firefighters in France, known as Sapeurs - Pompiers, from the French Army. The corps was created under the Commandant of engineers in 1810. The Sapeurs-Pompiers was organized after a fire at the ballroom in the Austrian Embassy in Paris which injured several dignitaries. For a practical overview the pictures are organized according to region, with Paris as a separate entry. We hope you will enjoy our selection of photos.
British Sidecars of the Post-War Boom 1945-1965
The war had left a population with a desire for personal family transport. The demand for this far outstripped the existing supply capacity. Cars were out of the question; it would be fifteen years before the British infrastructure would have the capability and manufacturing techniques to serve up the cars needed at the price required. There was no shortage of motorcycles in the country and nothing else could fulfil the public need other than the humble sidecar. Then great British entrepreneurs stepped in and made it all possible. This book is about those men and the sidecars they made. Those post war sidecar entrepreneurs were heroes, they provided the holidays, the days out, the work transport, the trips to the shops, long before the Mini or the A40 ever existed. The book gives a history of 42 sidecar manufacturers along with details and over 200 pictures of models produced between 1945 and 1965.

Lost Drag Strips II
This is a print on demand (POD) book with color photos. The paper and photo quality in this book, although good, often does not match the original version but the information remains the same.Even more forgotten drag racing facilities from the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s are showcased in this sequel to the best-selling book Lost Drag Strips: Ghosts of Quarter-Miles Past. Lost Drag Strips II: More Ghosts of Quarter-Miles Past picks up where the first volume left off, covering additional tracks with archival photos of racing in the tracks' heyday, the cars that ran there, and the tracks as they exist today. This volume also includes some of the tracks that survived, those that fought off the economic demons and the urban sprawl and continue to run today. Tracks in this volume include Fort Wainwright/Racing Lions Motorsports Park, Avenue G Drag Strip, Fremont/Baylands Drag Strip, San Fernando Drag Strip, Fontana Drag City, Inyokern Drag Strip, Kahuku Air Strip, Las Vegas Speedrome, Continental Divide Raceways, SRCA Drag Strip, Southwest Raceway, Willow Run Raceway, Minnesota Dragways, KCTA Drag Strip, Detroit Dragway, Niagara Airport Dragstrip, New York National Speedway, York US 30 Drag-O-Way, South Mountain Raceway, La Place Dragway, Yellow River Drag Strip, Thunderbolt Dragway, and more. In the first volume, the author examined the birth of drag racing and its subsequent popularity that invaded every city and community across America. Unfortunately, after the initial explosion of popularity, it waned, and various drag strips closed for a myriad of reasons. Financial pressure for the real estate they occupied, suburban sprawl, and waning participation were all reasons for the change in fortunes for the small, and even not-so-small, racetracks. The first volume was great, but readers demanded more! If you are an automotive history enthusiast, enjoyed Lost Drag Strips: Ghosts of Quarter-Miles Past, or are just a fan of racing in general, this is the perfect addition to your automotive library.
How to Build Supercharged & Turbocharged Small-Block Fords
The photos in this edition are black and white. The supercharger and turbocharger in their various forms and applications have both been around for well over a century. What makes them so popular? Looks, power, performance, sound, and status. And how do they relate to, and improve upon, the performance level of a small-block Ford pushrod V-8 engine like a 289-302, a 351-Windsor, a Ford 351-Cleveland, or even the latest generation 4.6L/5.4L modular small-block V-8 engines? That's EXACTLY what this book is all about! While Ford dabbled in supercharging and turbocharging on production cars all the way back in 1957 with the legendary Thunderbird, and then again with Shelbys and over-the-counter kits, and then again in the late '70s and early '80s with turbocharging 4- cylinder applications in Mustangs and SHOs, the real revolution in supercharging and turbocharging Ford products has come through the aftermarket in more recent times. The Fox Mustang, created in 1979, and the platform that would eventually feature fuel injection in 1986, allowing much more boost, created a genre of lightning-quick and affordable performance cars. Featuring legendary supercharger and turbocharger manufacturers like Paxton, Vortech, Pro-Charger, Garret-AirResearch and Power Dyne, as well as traditional Roots-style systems, this book covers everything you need to know about supercharging and turbocharging your small-block Ford.

Chevelle Restoration and Authenticity Guide 1970-1972
The photos in this edition are black and white. The high-water mark of the muscle car era is usually credited as 1970, and for good reason; Chevrolet was now stuffing high-powered 454 engines into Chevelles. Adding a larger displacement above the still-available 396 (402) offered buyers the option to order the most powerful production car of that era. The 1970-1972 Chevelles remain the most collectible of the model to this day. Author and historian Dale McIntosh pairs with restoration expert Rick Nelson to provide this bible of authenticity on the legendary 1970, 1971, and 1972 Chevelle models. Everything about restoring your Chevelle back to bone-stock is covered meticulously, including step-by-step instructions for chassis and interior restoration. Understanding date variances on parts applicable to the build date of your Chevelle is vital to a factory-correct restoration, and including them in this book provides a depth of coverage on these cars that is unequaled. Restoring a 1970-1972 Chevelle back to concours correct takes a certain amount of expertise. Thankfully, Rick and Dale have done a lot of the heavy lifting on the research side. With this authenticity guide, you can be confident that you have all the correct components and options accurately and expertly represented for your stock restoration. These fine details put the Chevelle Restoration and Authenticity Guide 1970-1972 a cut above the rest.
Rat Rods
During the '70s, '80s and '90s, hot rods followed very definite trends. It seems every hot rod built in the '70s reflected the somewhat garish tastes of that decade, and everyone had a small-block Chevy powering it. In the '80s and '90s, many rods were built to seamless perfection in a modern high-tech style, laden with billet, smooth seams, no rough edges, and a huge price tag. You had to know there would be a backlash, and rat rods are the backlash to the extreme. As a response to the high-dollar billet-based street rod trend, budget-limited home-based rod builders looked to the past for inspiration and style, and rat rods were the result. These 'imperfectly fine' rods rarely sport paint jobs of any kind, and their owners aren't scared to drive them. They represent a rebellious attitude, but never take anything too seriously either. Rat rods are high on style but low on budget, and that's why so many love them. Rat Rods: Rodding's Imperfect Stepchildren is a celebration of this trend, and almost as importantly, the lifestyle that accompanies it. Never has rodding been so cosmetically indifferent, so socially oriented, so affordable, and most importantly, so much fun! Author Scotty Gosson watched the Rat Rod trend start, grow, and blossom into what it is today. He shares the story with sharp wit, honesty, and a smile on every page. Cars from all over America and around the world are featured, and no two are the same.
Transit
Cliff Slater spent 30 years fighting rail transit projects. Needing to know more than his opponents about transit, he gained a different view of what caused it to accrue two trillion dollars in subsidies since 1975, versus none before then.Rail transit in America was initially the product of innovative private enterprise. But by 1960, rail transit was almost wholly publicly owned and heavily subsidized. The nation's 1,150 transit bus systems were still largely private and profitable in 1960, but by 1983, municipal governments had taken over the entire transit bus industry.Despite the subsidies, there has been a marked deterioration in the condition of the nation's transit infrastructure. The American Society of Civil Engineers tells us that: "a backlog of $176 billion for transit investments has emerged and is expected to grow to nearly $250 billion through 2029."This book explains to students and others what our municipal, state, and federal governments have been changing, especially during the last 60 years, to bring us to this point. If we can understand how it happened, we can intelligently discuss what needs remedying. This book is also the story of what happens when a private industry is socialized and unharnessed from the disciplines of the marketplace. Originally, America's transit systems earned their incomes by satisfying the needs of their customers, whereas transit today is about adjusting to the agendas of bureaucrats, politicians, and special interest groups. The socialization of the transit industry resulted from the Urban Mass Transportation Act of 1964 and its subsequent amendments. Little was written about the academics and politicians who opposed the act, and how correctly they forecast the outcome for transit. This book tells their story. The book also tells how President John F. Kennedy in 1962 defined what transit needed in new legislation, and how the Urban Mass Transportation Act of 1964 that President Lyndon Baines Johnson signed was the antithesis of Kennedy's recommendations and set the stage for a public-transit takeover. The final action was President Richard Nixon's surprising 1970 political effort that resulted in $10 billion in funding for the 1964 Act.When the transit data from the period known as the Great Inflation, 1965 to 1982, is adjusted for inflation, we see a different picture of what happened compared to the conventional history. This then is the story about the rise and decline of transit in the U.S from 1831 to today. We also discuss possible futures for transit. We examine private sector successes such as the Atlantic City Jitney Association, profitable for over 100 years, Uber and Lyft in the modern era; the potential impact of autonomous vehicles; and the long-term effects of the COVID pandemic. We discuss why the impact of all this on transit, as we know it, is likely to lead to its demise.

Gas-Securing Equipment
Customers can browse through a large selection of things. They usually arise in response to societal requirements. A variety of products will start to appear that can satisfy people's evolving needs when a pattern starts to emerge. Some of them have been there for a while, but people just don't see them. They are not noticed unless they are absolutely necessary. Experienced products may alter their marketing strategies and even rebranding in an attempt to improve their reputation. Anyone who has been paying petrol in recent years knows that the price has continued to rise to unthinkable levels. Even though there has consistently been an increaseMany buyers are running around in terror and trying to find an answer because of it. They continue to incur more expenses but aren't receiving any more money. You are more affected by these rising fuel prices the more you drive your car. If you currently have a small financial plan to deal with, it tends to be a very shocking time. Even though it's only a few pennies, that adds up quickly to a lot of money a gallon. It makes little difference that the costs will generally increase steadily. Eventually, topping off should theoretically cost you more money than it does. This has also resulted in an increase in the cost.If they don't raise the price they charge for these types of transport, they won't be able to stay in business. As a result, in order to turn a profit, the locations where they deliver materials must raise their prices. The final buyer ends up with the worst portion of the transaction in this never-ending loop. People are travelling less and buying fewer non-essential items as a result of this.Over the past few years, petrol prices have continued to grow to absurd levels.
