The Feuerwehr (German: fire defence) is a number of German fire departments. The responsible bodies for operating and equipping fire departments are the German communities ("Gemeinden") and cities ("St瓣dte"). By law, they are required to operate fire-fighting forces. In cities, this is usually performed by the Fire Prevention Bureau, one of the higher-ranking authorities. There are three kinds of firefighters in Germany: the predominant number of Germany's 1,383,730 firefighters are members of voluntary fire brigades (Freiwillige Feuerwehr), a lesser number are working in professional fire brigades and the smallest are the drafted members of a Compulsory Fire Service (Pflichtfeuerwehr), established just in a few places nationwide. British Sidecars of the Post-War Boom 1945-1965
The war had left a population with a desire for personal family transport. The demand for this far outstripped the existing supply capacity. Cars were out of the question; it would be fifteen years before the British infrastructure would have the capability and manufacturing techniques to serve up the cars needed at the price required. There was no shortage of motorcycles in the country and nothing else could fulfil the public need other than the humble sidecar. Then great British entrepreneurs stepped in and made it all possible. This book is about those men and the sidecars they made. Those post war sidecar entrepreneurs were heroes, they provided the holidays, the days out, the work transport, the trips to the shops, long before the Mini or the A40 ever existed. The book gives a history of 42 sidecar manufacturers along with details and over 200 pictures of models produced between 1945 and 1965.

Napoleon Bonaparte is generally attributed as creating the first professional firefighters in France, known as Sapeurs - Pompiers, from the French Army. The corps was created under the Commandant of engineers in 1810. The Sapeurs-Pompiers was organized after a fire at the ballroom in the Austrian Embassy in Paris which injured several dignitaries. Little was written about the academics and politicians who opposed the act, and how correctly they forecast the outcome for transit. Kennedy in 1962 defined what transit needed in new legislation, and how the Urban Mass Transportation Act of 1964 that President Lyndon Baines Johnson signed was the antithesis of Kennedy's recommendations and set the stage for a public-transit takeover. The final action was President Richard Nixon's surprising 1970 political effort that resulted in $10 billion in funding for the 1964 Act.When the transit data from the period known as the Great Inflation, 1965 to 1982, is adjusted for inflation, we see a different picture of what happened compared to the conventional history.This then is the story about the rise and decline of transit in the U.S from 1831 to today.
