Sharing the Love of Gardening
Sharing the Love of Gardening chronicles the seventy-five-year history of Kansas City's Westport Garden Club (WGC). Founded as a women's garden club in 1950, the group became a member of the prestigious Garden Club of America (GCA) in 1956. Since that time, it has evolved into an organization committed to civic improvement through educational programs and action in the areas of conservation, horticulture and the use of native plants. With the post-World War II housing boom, the nascent WGC became involved in landscaping projects aimed at beautifying Kansas City. These efforts continued when the WGC led re-landscaping efforts after the Great Flood of 1951. Early in their club's history, the women of the WGC learned that collaboration with other organizations allowed them to have a greater impact on the causes about which they cared. They soon began working with city governments and park departments on both sides of the Missouri-Kansas state line, including with the Linda Hall Library and Arboretum, the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, and the Loose Park Garden Center. In addition to being a thorough history of The Westport Garden Club--and the considerable influence that a small number of dedicated, educated women have had on it--Sharing the Love of Gardening is a book of stunning photography, showcasing previously unpublished images from the clubs' archives and the original work of club member and professional photographer Marianne Kilroy.

Music Inspires Ikebana
-In Music Inspires Ikebana more than 150 international Ikebana artists draw inspiration from five very different pieces of classical music to showcase the symbiotic relationship between both arts Ikebana and music may seem like two very different worlds, but they actually have more in common than meets the eye. Both require a keen sense of creativity, attention to detail, and the ability to bring together various elements in a harmonious way. Even though there are many similarities between both, such as rhythm, patterns and harmony, perhaps the most intriguing link between music and floral design is the concept of mood and emotion. Just like how different types of music can evoke various emotions in us, flower displays and ikebana arrangements also have the ability to convey certain feelings. The expressive nature of music and Ikebana brought us the inspiration for the book Music inspires Ikebana. Inspired by the title, the era, the lyrics, the overall mood, the melodies, the tonality, the structure, rhythm and patterns of five very different pieces of classical music - in different genres and styles, from baroque to the 21st century, and from subdued and minimal to loud and energetic - ikebana artists from all over the world came up with a very interesting and refreshing mix of designs.

Biodynamic Farming Handbook
Biodynamic Farming Handbook is a unique guide to biodynamic agricultural and gardening methods, as an advanced organic, regenerative farming method that eschews chemical fertilizers, pesticides, fungicides, or herbicides. As with other organic methods, it aims to build soil organic matter levels and biological activity, enabling plants to feed and grow naturally. Nevertheless, the biodynamic approach goes far beyond conventional organic methods, using a range of powerful nature-based preparations that greatly enhance soil biological activity and photosynthetic efficiency, resulting in healthier, more vibrant plants with exceptional flavor and keeping qualities, far beyond what is achievable through ordinary organic methods. This book provides a comprehensive overview of biodynamic farming, its scientific basis, detailed instructions for practical application, plus a series of detailed case studies detailing the activities of a variety of biodynamic farms in Australia and Europe that use the Australia Demeter Biodynamic Method, which is applied widely in Europe, Asia, and the U.S. It is called the "Australian" method because it was developed most extensively under the guidance of Alex Podolinsky (1925-2019), and the method extended to hundreds of thousands of acres by the mid-1980s. Owing to Podolinsky's annual advisory trips throughout Europe from the 1990s until his death in 2019, hundreds of farmers now use this method.

Gertrude Jekyll at Munstead Wood
First published in 1996, this Pimpernel Classic edition has been redesigned and includes new photography.Gertrude Jekyll (1843-1932) was probably the most influential garden designer of the early twentieth century. In this classic work Judith Tankard and Martin Wood explore her life and work at Munstead Wood, the Arts and Crafts style house in Surrey, designed for her by Edwin Lutyens, where she lived and gardened from 1897 until her death. Here she exercised her knowledge of architecture and local building skills, and her passion for form, grouping and colour was given full scope in the garden which she designed and worked from scratch.Taking as a basis Gertrude Jekyll's own photographs, scrapbooks and notebooks, and the recollections of contemporaries from Edith Wharton and Vita Sackville-West to William Robinson and Henry Francis Du Pont, the authors describe not only the building and development of the house and garden but also Jekyll's skills both in the arts and as a businesswoman, and her collaborations with architects including Lutyens, Oliver Hill and M.H. Baillie Scott, among many others.

It is designed to assist olive growers, agronomists, students, research scientists, diagnostic laboratories and consultants to correctly identify pests, diseases and non-pathogenic disorders such as weather damage and climate stress that may harm olive trees and crops worldwide. The assessment of olive-tree health has always relied on a careful study of symptoms, since these are often the only evidence available for diagnosis, so their recognition is a key element of this guide. Chapters cover insect pests, other pests, fungal diseases of leaves, fruit, trunk, roots and other areas, bacterial, viral and other diseases, and other disorders brought on by factors such as drought,
