Biennale Architettura 2025: Intelligens. Natural. Artificial. Collective.
The official catalog of the 2025 Venice Architecture Biennale is a multicultural, multinational dialogue on the future of sustainable and inclusive designPublished with La Biennale di Venezia. As Italian architect, engineer and curator Carlo Ratti puts it, "Architecture has always been a response to a hostile climate ... our creations have always striven to bridge the gap between a harsh environment and the safe, livable spaces we require. Today, that dynamic approach is being taken to a new level--as climate becomes less forgiving. We have witnessed firsthand how water and fire are attacking us with unprecedented ferocity."This two-volume publication accompanies the 19th International Architecture Exhibition in Venice, titled Intelligens. Natural. Artificial. Collective. Contributions from more than 750 participants--including architects and engineers, mathematicians and climate scientists, philosophers and artists, chefs and coders, writers and woodcarvers, farmers and fashion designers, and many more--explore how effective methods of adaptation to our changing environment demand inclusivity and collaboration.

Lifeblood - Edvard Munch
The book is multivocal and interdisciplinary. Significant contribution to the field of Munch studies, as well as to the broader histories of medicine, the medical humanities and curating. The book addresses what it means to be human in the face of illness and care - an experience that unites us all. Over the course of Edvard Munch's lifetime, discoveries such as X-rays, germ theory, antibiotics and contraception transformed our understanding of the body forever. The exhibition Lifeblood - Edvard Munch places the Norwegian artist at the heart of this dramatic development, juxtaposing his works with skeletons, scalpels, sputum bottles and a range of other objects from the history of modern healthcare. In this book, these objects are given voice and presence through a diverse selection of texts written by art and medical historians, healthcare workers, activists, museum professionals, artists and writers. Each contribution takes works or objects from the exhibition as its point of departure, using them as an entryway into the complex terrain of care. The maps they draw are not the same - and that is precisely the point: medical experience is never uniform, but shaped by each individual's circumstances and identities. Richly illustrated, with contributions by exhibition curator Allison Morehead and by Fatema Abdoolcarim, Patricia G. Berman, Gemma Blackshaw, Alice Butler, Alison W. Chang, Hege Duckert, Jacalyn Duffin, Signe Endresen, Ute Kuhlemann Falck, Jan Grue, Johanna Hedva, Nora Heidorn, Aurora Hoel, Mary Hunter, Cathrine Knudsen, Cathrine Kr繪ger, Olivia Laing, Ageliki Lefkaditou, Phil Loring, Olaug Nilssen, Kaveh Rashidi, Natasha Ruiz-G籀mez, Thorvald Steen, Sara Stridsberg, Espen Stueland and Ingvard Wilhelmsen.

Sebasti瓊o Salgado
Black-and-white photography from all stages of Salgado's storied career, including images from his internationally acclaimed Workers and Migrations seriesBrazilian documentary photographer Sebasti瓊o Salgado is one of the greatest figures of modern photography, placing human issues and the world's upheavals at the heart of his projects. This monograph presents two distinct stages of his oeuvre, through a selection of over 400 prints held in the collection of the Maison Europ矇enne de la Photographie. First, a journey through the first 25 years of Salgado's career as a photographer and photojournalist, in which he continually confronted the fury and torment of humanity through famed series such as Workers (1993), documenting the vanishing way of life of manual laborers across the world, and Migrations (2000), a tribute to mass migration driven by hunger, natural disasters, environmental degradation and demographic pressure. This chapter is followed by selections from Salgado's Genesis project (2013), an epic eight-year expedition to photograph the mountains, deserts and oceans, and the animals and peoples that have so far escaped the imprint of modern society. These recent works are a homage to the beauty and fragility of our planet, still untouched by the madness of mankind, and which it is vital to preserve.Sebasti瓊o Salgado (born 1944) originally trained as an economist. He began his photographic career in 1973, working initially as a photojournalist before turning toward the long-term, socially oriented documentary projects for which he is well known, such as Workers, Migrations and, most recently, Genesis. A UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador since 2001, Salgado has also been involved in rainforest conservation and restoration through his organization Insituto Terra.

It crept up on me and wouldn't let me out of its grasp. Now a leading international composer and a singer-songwriter, Errollyn Wallen is as much at home in jazz and pop as in the classical world. Part memoir, Becoming a Composer offers an intriguing glimpse into the mind and motivation of a composer and covers aspects of Wallen's sometimes troubled childhood, and her experiences of growing up as a black composer in the UK. It includes a collection of observations, diaries following the progress of new works and essays and seeks to shed light on the way a composer sees and hears the world.

Cooling Towers
A stirring celebration of cooling towers, the monumental British, brutalist structures that are relics of twentieth-century industrial history--and are about to disappear for good. Bringing together some of the country's most distinguished architectural photographers and writers, Cooling Towers is an elegiac exploration of these imposing buildings, forming a definitive visual record of Britain's coal-fired power stations at the moment that they disappear into history, being slated for demolition very soon. The book's focus is on the unique and sculptural presence of cooling towers within the landscape, always an unforgettable sight. Essays include Hugh Pearman on Drax Power Station in North Yorkshire, still standing but not for long; Otto Saumaurez Smith on the recently demolished, particularly beautiful set of cooling towers that formed part of Ironbridge B Power Station; and Jonathan Clarke on the historical, technological, and engineering context of post-war power stations. With a celebratory foreword by Turner Prize-winning British artist Antony Gormley, who has long expressed admiration for these immense constructions, and photography from renowned architectural photographers Luke O'Donovan, Michael Collins, and James O. Davis of Historic England, this book is a visually exciting and historically significant record of Britain's twentieth-century industrial legacy.

Bodega Cat with Fruits and Vegetables
Simone Johnson is a gifted NYC-based artist with autism whose beloved drawings of Bodega Cats are regularly featured in the Outsider Art fairs. This 1000-piece puzzle features her artwork. A 1,000-piece puzzle featuring the artwork of Simone Johnson. Bodega cats are as essential to New York City as the subway! The skyscrapers! The yellow cabs! Bodega cats are cute, sure, but really, they're around to keep mice out of bodegas, which are mainstays of NYC culture. Simone Johnson is their eager and gifted portraitist, capturing them at work--which is to say, napping on crates of fruits, stacks of canned beans, and amidst twelve packs of beer, one eye always open for intruders.
