Mythologies of Outer Space
Every culture and society has read stories in the night sky. From the careful attention of astronomers across all times and all parts of the world to the search for alien life, the stories found in the shapes of constellations to the expansive imaginings of science fiction, there has always been life up there, at the very least, for our imaginations. Mythologies of Outer Space brings together academics and artists to explore diverse imaginings of outer space. It examines questions that, in a world where outer space is increasingly accessible, are no longer only science fiction. Is outer space terra nullius, open for settlement? What if there is life beyond earth? Will we repeat the mistakes of the colonial age on other planets? Should parts of outer space be protected, like nature reserves? What about resource extraction? Do celestial bodies, like the moon, have rights? Astronaut Robert Thirsk, Mi'kmaw astronomer Hilding Neilson, digital humanities scholar Chris Pak, and outer space archaeologist Alice Gorman, among others, are joined by artists including David Hoffos and Dianne Bos, literary scholars, art critics, scientists, and a poet to explore how humanity thinks about outer space in this joyful, curious book.

Fundamentals of Astronautics
Project PoSSUM, an acronym for Polar Suborbital Science in the Upper Mesosphere, is the aeronomy program within the International Institute for Astronautical Sciences, a 501(c)(3) non-profit international research program. PoSSUM employs commercial spacecraft, aircraft, and high-altitude balloons to study rare "space clouds" called noctilucent clouds. These elusive clouds can help scientists address critical questions about the Earth's climate, but they can only be seen from polar latitudes during a small window of time in the summer. Noctilucent clouds are of keen interest to climatologists because their increasing presence is widely believed to be attributable to increasing concentrations of carbon dioxide and methane in the mesosphere. Further, these clouds offer a prominent observable that can help address questions pertaining to reentry vehicles and of low-density atmospheres on other planets through techniques of comparative planetology. This manual is intended for the student or professional interested in human spaceflight and how it may be applied to upper-atmospheric research. This manual provides an overview of Project PoSSUM, an introduction to the mesosphere and noctilucent cloud science, remote sensing, suborbital cinematography and imagery systems, spaceflight physiology and hypoxia awareness, life support systems and spacesuit operations, fundamental solar mechanics, and PoSSUM mission planning and simulation techniques.
Scanning the Skies
Tornadoes, nature's most violent and unpredictable storms, descend from the clouds nearly one thousand times yearly and have claimed eighteen thousand American lives since 1880. However, the U.S. Weather Bureau--fearing public panic and believing tornadoes were too fleeting for meteorologists to predict--forbade the use of the word "tornado" in forecasts until 1938.Scanning the Skies traces the history of today's tornado warning system, a unique program that integrates federal, state, and local governments, privately controlled broadcast media, and individuals. Bradford examines the ways in which the tornado warning system has grown from meager beginnings into a program that protects millions of Americans each year. Although no tornado forecasting program existed before WWII, the needs of the military prompted the development of a severe weather warning system in tornado prone areas. Bradford traces the post-war creation of the Air Force centralized tornado forecasting program and its civilian counterpart at the Weather Bureau. Improvements in communication, especially the increasing popularity of television, allowed the Bureau to expand its warning system further. This book highlights the modern tornado watch system and explains how advancements during the latter half of the twentieth-century--such as computerized data collection and processing systems, Doppler radar, state-of-the-art television weather centers, and an extensive public education program--have resulted in the drastic reduction of tornado fatalities.
Unmasking the Natural Universe
The Film about the Author and this book is available at streaming services, including Amazon Prime Video. Film: "Richard Freeman's Natural Universe" The Natural Universe provides outstanding evidence and unprecedented correlation of all subjects while solving numerous mysteries not yet explainable from a Big Bang. (CNN) Renowned Theoretical Physicist Michio Kaku says; "we may have to rewrite all the text books about the beginning of the universe. It takes many billions of years to create a Galaxy like the Milky Way but the James Webb Space Telescope has identified six Galaxies that exist half a billion years after the Big Bang that are up to ten times bigger than the Milky Way Galaxy". He says; "something is wrong, we may have to revise our theory of the creation of the universe". Only the Natural Universe can account for the startling images revealed by the James Webb Space Telescope: The Natural Model is the only model which correctly predicted the exact shapes of adolescent Galaxies. The Natural Model is the only model which correctly predicted large matured Galaxies existing alongside adolescent Galaxies in the early Universe. Only the Natural Universe can form the very first Galaxies before the time of the proposed Big Bang. The model which rationally explains everything: Without a Big Bang, the Natural Universe tells exactly why the CMB radiation possesses a 'near' perfect black body spectrum and why it created slightly warmer and cooler regions. Unlike the Big Bang, the Natural Universe tells exactly what Dark matter is and how it was created from a known source capable of providing its invisible properties. Unlike the Big Bang, the Natural Universe explains exactly why all Galaxies have to be accelerating due to Gravity alone and has no use for the hypothetical Dark energy. Unlike the Big Bang, the Natural Universe sensibly reconciles Einstein's Gravity with Quantum Gravity and both with the strong force which creates most of all mass. Unlike the Big Bang, the Natural Universe tells exactly how all Black Holes, including all Super Massive Black Holes, are created without the current, incorrect notion of infinity which causes an erroneous singularity. Unlike the Big Bang, the Natural Universe obeys the laws of physics and at the very creation of Matter correctly accounts for its mandatory, created Anti matter. Unlike the Big Bang, the Natural Universe creates its own dimensions of Space and time and tells how we are all provided with our own unique Dimensional Reality. Unlike the Big Bang, the Natural Universe rationally explains how a Quantum particle resides in all places at the same time and rationally explains Quantum particle entanglement. Unlike the Big Bang, the Natural Universe allows the use of Einstein's Special Relativity to completely and rationally unravel wave and particle duality. Bottom line: The Natural Universe tells how the whole universe really works. .
Cloudspotting for Beginners
A beautifully illustrated guide to clouds and the sky for inspiring and educating curious minds with meteorological wonder. Renowned journalist, public speaker, and founder of the Cloud Appreciation Society Gavin Pretor-Pinney details the key facts and characteristics about each major cloud type. To accompany these scientific tidbits, William Grill's gorgeous illustrations of vast colorful skies and mesmerizing cloud patterns create a calming, thought-provoking learning experience. From low-lying Stratus to high-flying Cirrus, Cloudspotting for Beginners covers how clouds are formed, the altitudes they prefer, the curious shapes they take, how they affect other meterological events, and more. The book breaks down the life and structure of a cloud on a molecular level, and then even expands on their interesting cross-planetary variations--for example, Jupiter's clouds are composed of ammonia ice crystals and Saturn's clouds congregate in an inexplicable hexagon around the planet's North Pole. Clouds require a fascinating amount of chemical precision in order to exist, yet they disappear and form again on a daily basis with ease. Cloudspotting for Beginners is a whimsical lesson on the oft-overlooked extraordinary lives of clouds that will serve as a gentle reminder to be present and observant in the face of impermanence. Just as informative as it is poetic and peaceful, this is the perfect guide for cloud appreciators and sky lovers.
Space-Based Solar Power
In an era marked by the urgent need for sustainable energy solutions, this book offers a compelling vision of the future. Space-based solar power, long a dream of science fiction, is now within the realm of possibility. The technological innovations described herein, such as advanced solar cells and electric propulsion, have the potential to revolutionize not only our energy infrastructure but also space exploration itself. Investing in SBSP is not merely a pragmatic step toward a cleaner future; it's an investment in our innate human drive to explore, innovate, and transcend limitations. This report, prepared for NASA, estimates the costs and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions of two proposed space-based solar power (SBSP) systems, comparing them to terrestrial renewable energy sources. The study considers two designs: the Innovative Heliostat Swarm (RD1) and the Mature Planar Array (RD2), both operating in geostationary orbit (GEO) and delivering 2 gigawatts of power to Earth. The study finds that launch and manufacturing costs are the primary drivers for both systems, making them significantly more expensive than terrestrial alternatives. The baseline assessment suggests that SBSP might have lifecycle costs per unit of electricity that are 12-80 times higher than terrestrial options. However, the study also highlights potential cost reductions through technological advancements and operational efficiencies. These include reduced launch costs, improved solar cell efficiency, efficient manufacturing at scale, extended hardware lifetimes, and the use of electric propulsion for orbital transfer. This annotated edition illustrates the capabilities of the AI Lab for Book-Lovers to add context and ease-of-use to manuscripts. Unraveling the mysteries behind the state's fog, floods, fires, droughts, and snowstorms, Selby shares his love affair with the sky and reveals what these changeable energies forecast for the future of California's climate.
An Introduction to General Relativity and Cosmology
Experts Plebański and Krasiński provide a thorough introduction to the tools of general relativity and relativistic cosmology. Assuming familiarity with advanced calculus, classical mechanics, electrodynamics and special relativity, the text begins with a short course on differential geometry, taking a unique top-down approach. Starting with general manifolds on which only tensors are defined, the covariant derivative and affine connection are introduced before moving on to geodesics and curvature. Only then is the metric tensor and the (pseudo)-Riemannian geometry introduced, specialising the general results to this case. The main text describes relativity as a physical theory, with applications to astrophysics and cosmology. It takes the reader beyond traditional courses on relativity through in-depth descriptions of inhomogeneous cosmological models and the Kerr metric. Emphasis is given to complete and clear derivations of the results, enabling readers to access research articles published in relativity journals.
Spacecraft Anomalies and Failures Workshop 2023
For anyone interested in space power, safety is, or should be, a paramount concern, both because of the inherent value of human life and material, and because a loss of confidence could have disastrous consequences. For these reasons, it is important for students of the topic to have an empirically grounded understanding of risk. In a previous era, NASA, relying on "engineering judgment", initially estimated the risk of loss of the space shuttle at between 1 in 1000 and 1 in 100,000; the actual rate was 2 in 133, both with complete loss of vessel and crew. For this reason, this 2023 presentation from a joint NASA/NRO conference on recent spacecraft mission anomalies should be essential reading for all practitioners. Readers should expect to: - Gain valuable insights into recent spacecraft anomalies and failures, providing a deeper understanding of the challenges and risks associated with space operations. - Understand the importance of safety measures and continuous improvement in space technology, particularly in the current era of increasing space exploration and commercial space activities. - Recognize the significance of space situational awareness, space weather monitoring, and robust space debris mitigation strategies in addressing the growing number of satellites and debris in orbit. An Introduction to Gravity
Einstein's theory of gravity can be difficult to introduce at the undergraduate level, or for self-study. One way to ease its introduction is to construct intermediate theories between the previous successful theory of gravity, Newton's, and our modern theory, Einstein's general relativity. This textbook bridges the gap by merging Newtonian gravity and special relativity (by analogy with electricity and magnetism), a process that both builds intuition about general relativity, and indicates why it has the form that it does. This approach is used to motivate the structure of the full theory, as a nonlinear field equation governing a second rank tensor with geometric interpretation, and to understand its predictions by comparing it with the, often qualitatively correct, predictions of intermediate theories between Newton's and Einstein's. Suitable for a one-semester course at junior or senior level, this student-friendly approach builds on familiar undergraduate physics to illuminate the structure of general relativity.

Final Theory of Everything
In this book, revised and updated in November 2024, a new 'theory of everything' is revealed. It explains how all aspects of the universe are linked together, and why the universe is the way it is: a grand unification theory that brings together the four forces of nature (gravity, electromagnetism, weak and strong forces) into one single force. Along the way, many myths and misconceptions about the Universe are busted wide open, revealing for example why dark energy and dark matter are non-existent and unnecessary, what truly keeps galaxies together, what's at the bottom of black holes, and what exactly causes gravity. The book also reveals how it will be possible one day to put virtual video cameras on the surfaces of planets and stars, with no time delays. A technology that will revolutionise mankind's exploration of the cosmos and the hunt for extraterrestrial life. The signs are everywhere in today's scientific literature that a shock wave in particle physics is about to arrive. This book is that shockwave: "Many physicists suspect we are in for a radical re-understanding of reality, as big as the one Albert Einstein orchestrated more than a century ago. But now it's Einstein's fabric that needs unravelling. A belief has come to dominate theoretical physics that even nothingness ought to come from something; that space-time must break up into more primitive building blocks that don't themselves inhabit space or time" (source: Emily Buder, The Unravelling of Space-Time, Quanta Magazine, 27 Sept. 2024. This book is written for a general audience, for students, and in particular for astrophysicists and cosmologists who will gain new invaluable insights into the nature of our Universe. Be prepared for a shocking and exuberant rollercoaster ride, leading to a profound new view of the cosmos.

The Animate and the Inanimate
Sidis entertains the idea that life originated on Earth from asteroids (as put forth by Lord Kelvin and Hermann von Helmholtz) while describing his theory as a synthesis of the mechanical and vitalist life models. Sidis also claims that stars are "alive" and go through an eternally repeating light-dark cycle, with the second law reversing in the dark portion of the cycle. Sidis' theory was dismissed upon release, only to be discovered in an attic in 1979. Buckminster Fuller (a Sidis classmate) wrote to Gerard Piel in response to this discovery: Imagine my surprise and delight when I was handed a xerox of Sidis' 1925 book, in which he predicted the black hole. His book, The Animate and the Inanimate is a tremendous cosmological work. I find him focusing on the same topics that fascinate me and reaching roughly the same conclusions that I have published in SYNERGETICS and will publish in SYNERGETICS Volume II, which has already gone to press. As a Harvard man of a later generation, I hope you are as excited as I am that Sidis went on to do the most magnificent thinking and writing after college. This is one of the few works by Sidis that was not written under a pen name. In The Animate and the Inanimate, Sidis says that the universe is endless and has parts where the laws of physics are backward, called "negative tendencies." Following these are sections where the laws of physics are forward-looking, known as "positive tendencies," which change over time. He claims there was no "origin of life"; life has always existed and only evolved.
The Universal One
The Universal One" is a book written by Walter Russell that explains his new Cosmology. It is a must-read for anyone interested in Russell science and philosophy. The book reveals the possibility of transmutation of the elements and unites spiritual cause and scientifically observable effect in a seamless whole. Russell later revised some of the content of the book in "The Secret of Light" and "A New Concept of the Universe". The book is a century or more ahead of its time and is now appealing to many people who are examining the nature of science and consciousness. The universe is a multiplicity of changing effects of but one unchanging cause. All things are universal, and nothing is of itself alone. When man knows this in measurable exactness, then he will have no limitations within those which are universal. The Universal One is Walter Russell's first expression of his new Cosmology explaining the Mind-centered electric universe. Though he would revise his theory somewhat over the years, this is the first and basic description of his new Cosmology. Lavishing illustrated, it sets out his views on God, the Universe, matter and Man's place in the world as he searches for a path to god. In this historic volume, Walter Russell first reveals the possibility of transmutation of the elements. This illustrated treatise is Russell's scientific explanation of God's ways and processes in the construction of the Universe and provides a guide for illuminating Man's proper way of living during the long journey to the Light of God.
Judging Extreme Weather
Written by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) Rapporteur of Weather and Climate Extremes, this book addresses the reality of extreme weather--how it occurs, how we measure it, and what it means for our future.Weather affects everybody, and with the increasing impact of climate change and the prevalence of storms, droughts and floods, it is clear that we are affecting all aspects of weather. Consequently, people love to talk about weather, complain about it, argue about it--and be intrigued by it. Twenty-four/seven coverage of the weather, however, has helped foster a tendency for marked overstatement--the creation of misconceptions, exaggerations and, frankly, even outright lies. Leading expert in weather and climate, Randy Cerveny, draws on his extensive experience with the WMO and personal research to give the reader a behind-the-scenes look at how weather and climate extremes are recorded and defined. He unpacks the science behind these extremes through a number of specific WMO investigations that span a diverse range of countries and weather events, including lightning, rain, hurricanes and tornadoes. Genetic Sin Thesis
Because of ancient sin, The Lord has cut Mankind off from The Tree of Life, which had given Mankind Eternal Life. Since that time, we were not intended to live forever in a fleshly body. Because The Lord's Temple, which is your body and soul, has been corrupted, it must be redeemed back to perfection by The Creator through the sacrifice of Christ for The Sins of The World. In 1st Corinthians 6:19-20, Paul asks, "Or do you not know that your body is a Temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So, glorify God in your body." Thus, YOU are The Temple of The Lord, not any human made temple in Jerusalem. Lucifer seeks to desecrate that temple and erect a false digital image in its place, so that Lucifer may dwell inside you instead of The Lord. Using genetic modification, machine enhancements, and digital upgrades, Lucifer will erect a New Satanic Temple, which shall be The New Man...Homo Deus: The Image of the Beast. Artificial Intelligence, animated by The Light of Lucifer, will be the final invention of Mankind. The Gnostic Luciferian Freemasons are Thieves in The Temple of The Lord, and they want to tamper with The Lord's Creation, which is The Temple of The Lord, known as Mankind, and thereby, become Gods through Transhumanistic technologies. They seek to desecrate The Temple of God, again, which is YOU. The Battle for Your Soul 1) The battle is for The Temple of God: YOU. 2) The battlefield is the soul of Mankind. 3) If you allow your mind to be plugged into The Internet of Things Cloud, you take on The Image of The Beast. It is The Forbidden Gate. Transhumanism is a perversion of God's Creation, merging "iron with clay", and tampering with Creation in the attempt to become God. 4) You were born mortal, and only by dying a mortal, which requires rejecting any technologies that will alter you to become Transhuman, shall you live eternally. And Christ is The Way for this process. That is the Creator's plan. The Elite will offer you Immortality if you upload your mind into their Transhumanist Cyber Realm. If you choose it, you will forever lose your soul. It is your choice. 5) The Image of the Beast IS Transhumanism through Techno Mystical Technologies, including Artificial Intelligence. 6) Artificial Intelligence heralds the end of Mankind and the beginning of The Beast System.

Storm Struck
STORM STRUCK: When Supercharged Winds Slammed Northwest MichiganIt was a hundred-year storm, said some. Thin trees snapped like matchsticks; thick ones toppled, one atop another, like felled soldiers. The storm's straight-wind blast left houses with gaping holes, thousands of residents with no power for days, a Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore that is, said one official, unrecognizable, and a cleanup that could take years.A UNIQUE, CROWD-SOURCED BOOK FROM THE COMMUNITYFollowing a social media blast by Mission Point Press, over 70 local or visiting photographers submitted their visions of the storm, resulting in well over 300 photos from Leelanau County, Traverse City, Old Mission Peninsula, Acme, Williamsburg, Alden, Frankfort, Mackinaw, Kalkaska and Antrim County.Mission Point Press, a Traverse City publisher, will release a book on Sept. 27, 2015, chronicling the historic, tragic event. Titled Storm Struck: When Supercharged Winds Slammed Northwest Michigan, it will include: The storm's anatomy ... what caused it, and why it was so devastating. A foreword by Bob Sutherland, founder of Cherry Republic. Mapped details of the path it followed. Extensive photographs showing the storm and the impact on Leelanau, Grand Traverse and Antrim counties - and more - from more than 70 different photographers. Stories of the people affected - their heroics and the swift response to repair the damage.
The Cosmic Microwave Background
This volume tells the untold story of how observations of the cosmic microwave background radiation were interpreted in the decades following its serendipitous discovery, before the Hot Big Bang model became the accepted orthodoxy. The authors guide the reader through this history, including the many false trails and blind alleys that occurred along the way. Readers will discover how the Big Bang theory was shaped by alternative theories that exposed its weaknesses - including some that persist even today. By looking carefully at what it takes to reject an incorrect theory and the assumptions and processes at each stage, the authors examine the epistemological factors at play between an emerging scientific orthodoxy and since discarded alternatives. Their analysis of the cosmic microwave background provides a uniquely well-documented case study of theory building for a wide readership spanning cosmology, the history of physics and astronomy, and the philosophy of science more broadly.

Chandrayaan-3
On 23 August 2023, India scripted history as Chandrayaan-3 successfully landed on the Moon's South Pole. India became the first and only country to reach this remote lunar region, a milestone that has elevated India to the ranks of the United States (US), Russia and China-the only three other nations that have reached the moon. But these were not the only records Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) made that day; it also garnered over 8 million concurrent views of the live moon landing on YouTube, highest ever in the history of the platform. This book offers an overview of the Chandrayaan-3 mission and covers the evolution of India's Moon programme. It traces India's journey to the Moon, starting from its inception during the early 2000s.

Forceful, engaging and funny . . . This book will make you happy to live on this planet -- a good thing, because you're not leaving anytime soon." --New York Times Book Review From the bestselling authors of Soonish, a brilliant and hilarious off-world investigation into space settlement Earth is not well. The promise of starting life anew somewhere far, far away--no climate change, no war, no Twitter--beckons, and settling the stars finally seems within our grasp. Or is it? Critically acclaimed, bestselling authors Kelly and Zach Weinersmith set out to write the essential guide to a glorious future of space settlements, but after years of research, they aren't so sure it's a good idea. Space technologies and space business are progressing fast, but we lack the knowledge needed to have space kids, build space farms, and create space nations in a way that doesn't spark conflict back home. In a world hurtling toward human expansion into space, A City on Mars investigates whether the dream of new worlds won't create nightmares, both for settlers and the people they leave behind. In the process, the Weinersmiths answer every question about space you've ever wondered about, and many you've never considered: Can you make babies in space? Should corporations govern space settlements? What about space war? Are we headed for a housing crisis on the Moon's Peaks of Eternal Light--and what happens if you're left in the Craters of Eternal Darkness? Why do astronauts love taco sauce? Speaking of meals, what's the legal status of space cannibalism? With deep expertise, a winning sense of humor, and art from the beloved creator of Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal, the Weinersmiths investigate perhaps the biggest questions humanity will ever ask itself--whether and how to become multiplanetary. Get in, we're going to Mars.
