This book seeks to explore the critical but very influential challenge of wastewater management from a global perspective and to specifics in SSA region where the subject is under researched. The book will detail on the production trends, the treatment approaches used currently and those proposed in a circular economy among other management approaches that can enhance sustainable wastewater management while prioritizing reuse and recovery of the resource. The book is a need of the hour since only a few studies have addressed the production trends and management of wastewater in SSA region as Onu et al. (2023) noted. The aim is to close the research gap and infuse theory from successful case studies of other regions of the world into practice in SSA. Ultimately, with sustainable wastewater management, access to safe water and sanitation can be enhanced in line with realization of sustainable development goal (SDG) 6. The book will be useful to environmental pollution regulators, researchers, and practitioners among other stakeholders with a role in wastewater treatment and management.
When the Bosque Ran Clear
When the Bosque Ran Clear: Life Along the River from Prehistory to the Civil War presents a history of early people and their environments along the Bosque River valley in North Central Texas. Spanning from the Pleistocene, thousands of years ago when the earliest peoples arrived in the cool and rainy river valley, to the time of the Comanche in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, Dan Young describes how peoples' lives were shaped by climate-driven changes in the landscape. Presented in ten chapters with thirty-eight original black and white illustrations, the book begins with the natural history of the river that flows through the Western Cross Timbers, the Blackland Prairies, and into the Brazos River at Waco. Beginning with the Pleistocene, Young's narrative then continues through the Early Archaic (8,000-6,000 years ago), Middle Archaic (6,000-4,000 years ago), and the Wet Centuries (5,000-2,150 years ago), with the climate-induced disappearance of bison and the arrival of the Spanish and their horses. Young concludes with a chapter on the establishment of Scots-Irish settlements in 1854 and the destruction of the Native American communities and lifeways through the new settlers' farming and ranching practices.

Research on Heavy Metals in Soils and Sediments
In this Special Issue, contributions covering studies on soils and soil extracts were welcomed and focused on the following: (1) mobile soil fractions and their dependency on mineral composition, grain size, and the kinetics of dissolution; (2) mobile soil fractions and proof of soil-to-plant transfer via respective pot and field experiments; (3) elemental compositions of nanoparticles in soil extracts and groundwater, determined by micro-diffusion or time-of-flight ICPMS; (4) non-invasive screening for plastic and microplastic particles or combustion-derived particles by using, e.g., near-infrared or magnetic methods; (5) interactions of surfaces of man-made materials with solutes in soil; (6) sanitation and recovery strategies of soils; (7) screening of rarely determined aspects; and (8) investigations of element proportions of geochemically and physiologically similar elements.Research on these topics should help characterize defined sources, but also provide insights into soil formation mechanisms and the success of restoration as well as remediation measures. The migration of nanoparticles in soils and groundwater is expected to be lower, but needs further investigation. The fitting of mobile fractions to simulate soil-to-plant transfer or the transfer to benthic organisms should involve different organisms under various nutrient and climatic conditions. Multi-element capabilities and improved detection limits of ICP-MS and ICP-OES offer the possibility of determining the levels of lesser-known elements beneath the main commonly explored elements, nutrients, and pollutants.
