This book presents quantum theory as a theory based on new relationships among matter, thought, and experimental technology, as against those previously found in physics, relationships that also redefine those between mathematics and physics in quantum theory. The argument of the book is based on its title concept, reality without realism (RWR), and in the corresponding view, the RWR view, of quantum theory. The book considers, from this perspective, the thinking of Bohr, Heisenberg, Schr繹dinger, and Dirac, with the aim of bringing together the philosophy and history of quantum theory. With quantum theory, the book argues, the architecture of thought in theoretical physics was radically changed by the irreducible role of experimental technology in the constitution of physical phenomena, accordingly, no longer defined independently by matter alone, as they were in classical physics or relativity. Or so it appeared. For, quantum theory, the book further argues, made us realize that experimental technology, beginning with that of our bodies, irreducibly shapes all physical phenomena, and thus makes us rethink the relationships among matter, thought, and technology in all of physics.

The deuterium cycle (D-cycle) in fusion reactors

Fusion reactions in the deuterium cycle (D+D, D+T and D+3He) are the main nucleus-nucleus interactions which occur in tokamaks and stellerators. Fusion cross-sections and fusion reactivities have been reviewed and compared with experimental data from the last ENDF/B-VIII.0 cross-section library. Fusion reactivities have been estimated through a numerical integration of ENDF fusion cross-sections and compared with several formulations. Lawson criterion has been appplied to D+T fuel plasma and compared with several fusion reactors. As a conclusion, this shows that physical models for the astrophysical factor S(E) and bremstrahlung losses should be reviewed, in order to apply fusion to energy production in safety conditions.

Measurement of Higgs Boson Production Cross Sections in the Diphoton Channel

This thesis presents the measurement of the Higgs boson cross section in the diphoton decay channel. The measurement relies on proton-proton collision data at a center-of-mass energy √s = 13 TeV recorded by the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). The collected data correspond to the full Run-2 dataset with an integrated luminosity of 139 fb-1. The measured cross sections are used to constrain anomalous Higgs boson interactions in the Effective Field Theory (EFT) framework. The results presented in this thesis represent a reduction by a factor 2 of the different photon and jet energy scale and resolution systematic uncertainties with respect to the previous ATLAS publication. The thesis details the calibration of electron and photon energies in ATLAS, in particular the measurement of the presampler energy scale and the estimation of its systematic uncertainty. This calibration was used to perform a measurement of the Higgs boson mass in the H → γγ and H → 4l channels using the 36 fb-1 dataset.

It asserts that quantum mechanics and relativity can't be unified due to their deep flaws. Glenn Borchardt's Infinite Universe Theory, Universal Cycle Theory, and Neomechanical Gravitational Theory co-written with Stephen Puetz are described. Included are Duncan Shaw's aether papers on a new model for gravitation, his accounting for quantum entanglement, and his September 2020 paper On Maxwell's 1865 theory of Aether: A Step Toward Unity.Other topics are an explanation for the two-slit experiment, Maxwell's aether, energy, dark matter candidates, the cosmological principle, alternatives to the galactic redshift interpretation, Modern Mechanics Theory, and an aether gravity model. A chapter on Bohm and Hiley's approach explains causality and chance, pilot waves, and the undivided universe. Logical answers are given to questions on consciousness. Electroweak Physics at the Large Hadron Collider with the ATLAS Detector

This thesis discusses searches for electroweakly produced supersymmetric partners of the gauge and the Higgs bosons (gauginos and higgsinos) decaying to multiple leptons, using pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 13 TeV. The thesis presents an in-depth study of multiple searches, as well as the first 13 TeV cross section measurement for the dominant background in these searches, WZ production. Two searches were performed using 36.1/fb of data: the gaugino search, which makes use of a novel kinematic variable, and the higgsino search, which produced the first higgsino limits at the LHC. A search using 139/fb of data makes use of a new technique developed in this thesis to cross check an excess of data above the background expectation in a search using a Recursive Jigsaw Reconstruction technique. None of the searches showed a significant excess of data, and limits were expanded with respect to previous results.These searches will benefit from the addition of luminosity during HL-LHC; however, the current detector will not be able to withstand the increase in radiation. Electronics for the detector upgrade are tested and irradiated to ensure their performance.

This monograph is the first of its kind to present innovative research results on truncated predictor feedback (TPF) designs for general linear systems with input delay. Beginning with a brief review of time delay systems, the first half of the book focuses on TPF with a constant feedback parameter. Both state feedback and output feedback are considered. It is established that TPF achieves stabilization in the presence of an arbitrarily large bounded delay if the open loop system is not exponentially unstable. Examples are presented to illustrate that TPF may fail to stabilize an exponentially unstable system when the delay is sufficiently large. Bounds on the delay are then established under which stabilization can be achieved. The second half of the book explores variations of the TPF laws designed with a non-constant feedback parameter to accommodate unknown delays and improve closed-loop performance.
