Strange and Non-Strange D-Meson Production in Pp, P-Pb, and Pb-PB Collisions with Alice at the Lhc
This thesis provides a comprehensive view of the physics of charmed hadrons in high-energy proton-proton and heavy-ion collisions. Given their large masses, charm quarks are produced in the early stage of a heavy-ion collision and they subsequently experience the full system evolution probing the colour-deconfined medium called quark-gluon plasma (QGP) created in such collisions. In this thesis, the mechanisms of charm-quark in-medium energy loss and hadronisation are discussed via the measurements of the production of charm mesons with (Ds+) and without (D+) strange-quark content in different colliding systems, using data collected by the ALICE experiment at the CERN LHC. The participation of the charm quark and its possible thermalisation in the QGP are studied via measurements of azimuthal anisotropies in the production of D+ mesons. Finally, the prospects for future measurements with the upgraded ALICE experimental apparatus and with more refined machine learning techniques are presented.

Memory Functions, Projection Operators, and the Defect Technique
This book provides a graduate-level introduction to three powerful and closely related techniques in condensed matter physics: memory functions, projection operators, and the defect technique. Memory functions appear in the formalism of the generalized master equations that express the time evolution of probabilities via equations non-local in time, projection operators allow the extraction of parts of quantities, such as the diagonal parts of density matrices in statistical mechanics, and the defect technique allows solution of transport equations in which the translational invariance is broken in small regions, such as when crystals are doped with impurities. The Particle Hierarchy Paradigm
The Particle Hierarchy Paradigm is a way of understanding how nature determines the mass and energy values of particles as determined by experimental physics. Field Structure Theory is a research project into fundamental form and structure. This paper will explore one particular problem in physics, that of the particle hierarchy. While mass and energy values of particles have been known with exactitude, why they have these values has been unknown. Using the new analytic of Tometry and applying that analytic to Field Structure Theory explains the origin and structure of particles to a degree of accuracy beyond that capable of Standard Model that uses Quantum Mechanics to ascertain values. Key to this understanding is the simple and humble loop - a loop action or more precisely chiral loops of action. With loops of action, a universe can be constructed.
