Semiconductor Nanostructures
This work investigates the electronic and optical properties of excitons and trions in semiconductor nanostructures, applying finite and infinite confinement models. Trions, or charged excitons, are quasiparticles formed by the association of an exciton with an electron or a hole. They are distinguished by their charge and mobility, generating unique properties for nanostructures. Our study calculates the binding energy, energy transition and electronic wave function in a cylindrical quantum box, integrating the effects of pressure and temperature. Two theoretical models are proposed for binding and non-correlation energy, based on a multi-parameter variational approach. The results show that the properties of trions depend on pressure, temperature and confinement, and that they are more stable in nanostructures, opening up technological perspectives in optoelectronics and telecommunications.

Minimization Problems for the Witness Beam in Relativistic Plasma Cavities
This thesis deals with an optimization problem from the field of theoretical plasma physics. Specifically, it deals with the question of how the accelerated electrons are spatially arranged in a plasma wave generated by a laser pulse. An internal structure of this so-called witness beam is of interest for the radiation characteristics of such electron beams, in particular with regard to the coherence of the generated radiation. The resulting internal structure of the electron beam is a result of the interaction of the electrons with each other and the electric fields of the wakefield, therefore it is determined by solving a minimization problem. The thesis builds on previous results in this field and aims to find suggestions for improved algorithms to determine the minimum sought.

Superconductor through microwave-assisted hydrothermalization
The synthesis routes for superconducting cuprates seek to improve their properties, such as obtaining single phases, homogeneous and better-connected grains which, consequently, interfere with the increase in electric current-carrying capacity. In this work, we studied the synthesis of the superconducting oxide of the Bi: Sr: Ca: Cu: O system in phase 2212 (BSCCO-2212), which has a critical temperature of around 85 K. For the synthesis of this material, a variation of the polymer precursor method developed by Pechini was used and, in a second route, a step was added to this method in which the microwave-assisted hydrothermalization method was applied. In the latter, the material is heated from the inside out and, due to the interaction of the microwaves with the solution, the temperature of the system increases rapidly, directly influencing the speed of synthesis. In contrast, in conventional heating, the material is first heated on the surface and only then is heat transferred to the inside of the system.
