Infinite Group Actions on Polyhedra
In the past fifteen years, the theory of right-angled Artin groups and special cube complexes has emerged as a central topic in geometric group theory. This monograph provides an account of this theory, along with other modern techniques in geometric group theory. Structured around the theme of group actions on contractible polyhedra, this book explores two prominent methods for constructing such actions: utilizing the group of deck transformations of the universal cover of a nonpositively curved polyhedron and leveraging the theory of simple complexes of groups. The book presents various approaches to obtaining cubical examples through CAT(0) cube complexes, including the polyhedral product construction, hyperbolization procedures, and the Sageev construction. Moreover, it offers a unified presentation of important non-cubical examples, such as Coxeter groups, Artin groups, and groups that act on buildings. Designed as a resource for graduate students and researchers specializing in geometric group theory, this book should also be of high interest to mathematicians in related areas, such as 3-manifolds.
Fixed Point Theory and Variational Principles in Metric Spaces
The book is designed for undergraduates, graduates, and researchers of mathematics studying fixed point theory or nonlinear analysis. It deals with the fixed point theory for not only single-valued maps but also set-valued maps. The text is divided into three parts: fixed point theory for single-valued mappings, continuity and fixed point aspects of set-valued analysis, and variational principles and their equilibrium problems. It comprises a comprehensive study of these topics and includes all important results derived from them. The applications of fixed point principles and variational principles, and their generalizations to differential equations and optimization are covered in the text. An elementary treatment of the theory of equilibrium problems and equilibrium version of Ekeland's variational principle is also provided. New topics such as equilibrium problems, variational principles, Caristi's fixed point theorem, and Takahashi's minimization theorem with their applications are also included.
Exercises in Linear Algebra and Geometry
This book contains a collection of exercises designed to support and complement the theoretical exposition of standard topics for a first-year course in linear algebra and geometry at the university level. In this context, this exercise book naturally complements the text: F. Bottacin, "Linear Algebra and Geometry," Esculapio, Bologna, which will be referred to for the necessary theoretical concepts. In presenting solutions to the proposed exercises, my primary goal is to teach how to approach and solve problems. For this reason, in many cases, theoretical considerations have been included, and different solution methods have been proposed for the same type of exercise. The reader will thus be able to evaluate, on a case-by-case basis, the advantages and disadvantages of each method

Linear Algebra
The purpose of this book is to explain linear algebra clearly for beginners. In doing so, the author states and explains somewhat advanced topics such as Hermitian products and Jordan normal forms. Starting from the definition of matrices, it is made clear with examples that matrices and matrix operation are abstractions of tables and operations of tables. The author also maintains that systems of linear equations are the starting point of linear algebra, and linear algebra and linear equations are closely connected. The solutions to systems of linear equations are found by solving matrix equations in the row-reduction of matrices, equivalent to the Gauss elimination method of solving systems of linear equations. The row-reductions play important roles in calculation in this book. To calculate row-reductions of matrices, the matrices are arranged vertically, which is seldom seen but is convenient for calculation. Regular matrices and determinants of matrices are defined and explained. Furthermore, the resultants of polynomials are discussed as an application of determinants. Next, abstract vector spaces over a field K are defined. In the book, however, mainly vector spaces are considered over the real number field and the complex number field, in case readers are not familiar with abstract fields. Linear mappings and linear transformations of vector spaces and representation matrices of linear mappings are defined, and the characteristic polynomials and minimal polynomials are explained. The diagonalizations of linear transformations and square matrices are discussed, and inner products are defined on vector spaces over the real number field. Real symmetric matrices are considered as well, with discussion of quadratic forms. Next, there are definitions of Hermitian inner products. Hermitian transformations, unitary transformations, normal transformations and the spectral resolution of normal transformations and matrices are explained. The book ends withJordan normal forms. It is shown that any transformations of vector spaces over the complex number field have matrices of Jordan normal forms as representation matrices.
Algebraic Combinatorics and the Monster Group
Covering, arguably, one of the most attractive and mysterious mathematical objects, the Monster group, this text strives to provide an insightful introduction and the discusses the current state of the field. The Monster group is related to many areas of mathematics, as well as physics, from number theory to string theory. This book cuts through the complex nature of the field, highlighting some of the mysteries and intricate relationships involved. Containing many meaningful examples and a manual introduction to the computer package GAP, it provides the opportunity and resources for readers to start their own calculations. Some 20 experts here share their expertise spanning this exciting field, and the resulting volume is ideal for researchers and graduate students working in Combinatorial Algebra, Group theory and related areas.
Textbook on Ordinary Differential Equations
Many scientific and real-world problems that occur in science, engineering, and medicine can be represented in differential equations. There is a vital role for differential equations in studying the behavior of different types of real-world problems. Thus, it becomes crucial to know the existence and uniqueness properties of differential equations and various methods of finding differential equation solutions in explicit form. It is also essential to know different kinds of differential equations in terms of eigenvalues, termed eigenvalue problems, and some special functions used in finding the solution to differential equations. The study of nonlinear problems also plays a significant role in different real-world situations. There is a necessity to know the behavior of solutions of nonlinear differential equations. Still, there are very few forms of differential equations whose solution can be found in explicit form. For the differential equations whose solutions cannot be found in explicit form, one has to study the properties of solutions of the given differential equation to guess an approximate solution of it. This book aims to introduce all the necessary topics of differential equations in one book so that laymen can easily understand the subject and apply it in their research areas. The novel approach used in this book is the introduction of different analytical methods for finding the solution of differential equations with sufficient theorems, corollaries, and examples, and the geometrical interpretations in each topic. This textbook is intended to study the theory and methods of finding the explicit solutions to differential equations, wherever possible, and in the absence of finding explicit solutions, it is intended to study the properties of solutions to the given differential equations. This book is based on syllabi of the theory of differential equations prescribed for postgraduate students of mathematics and applied mathematics in different institutions and universities of India and abroad. This book will be helpful for competitive examinations as well.
Derived Algebraic Geometry
The second edition presents schemes, simplicial sets, higher categories, model categories, derived algebraic geometry, and spectral algebraic geometry in a self-contained manner. It discusses Motives, Goodwillie Calculus, Higher Galois, Supersymmetry, and topics in physical mathematics. A new chapter on Derived Motivic Spectrais now included as is an extended introduction to Infinity Category as well as a revised chapter on Stacks.
Modern Trends in Algebra and Representation Theory

A serious student’s guide to algebraic expressions
About the bookIt focuses on the transformation, simplification, and evaluation of algebraic expressions. This book does not encompass the entirety of elementary algebra, however. For instance, it does not include topics such as equations and inequalities, and it does not involve complex numbers. In short, this book is exclusively devoted to building the core skill of manipulating algebraic expressions, which is foundational for any other mathematical study. It is a comprehensive guide that contains: (1) Detailed explanation of topics (2) Worked examples (3) Abundant exercises of increasing difficulty level (4) Solutions to all exercises. It is tailored for dedicated students who are ready to navigate the content diligently, embracing ``productive struggle" with a positive attitude. MotivationThere exists a substantial disparity between the content students are taught in secondary schools and the real-world challenges they encounter in colleges, universities, and workplaces. During their time in secondary school, students learn to manipulate only very simple algebraic expressions. The school curriculum does not pay enough attention to developing the necessary depth in this aspect. Yet, as students progress into their post-secondary studies, they are expected to handle much more complex expressions than they used to encounter in their secondary school. Many students of colleges and universities cannot keep up with the amount and speed of what they are taught, simply because they cannot transform algebraic expressions. What makes matters worse is that post-secondary institutions completely ignore this problem: professors do not have time to review algebraic expressions and teach under the assumption that their students are experts in this regard. Reaching the level of mastery expected from students by colleges and universities, or dictated by the realities of modern quantitative occupations, requires special preparation - and this is precisely where this book can offer assistance.PrerequisitesThe only prerequisites for working through this guide are a strong grasp of arithmetic and an ample supply of pens and paper for completing exercises. No calculator is necessary for any exercise. Topics coveredEvaluation of expressions, expressions involving exponents and radicals, distributive rule, collecting like terms, FOIL and expansion equalities, expansion and factoring techniques, polynomials (including long division and composition), expressions involving factorial, sigma and product notations, arithmetic and geometric progressions, general binomial expansion and more. Every chapter has the following structure: Detailed explanation of topics.Examples of worked exercises.Abundant exercises of varying difficulty level.Solutions to all exercises are available in the second half of the book.
