Spinning the Cosmos
This open access book investigates the epistemological concept of and the knowledge transfer interwoven with the moveable paper wheels found in medieval and early modern books--the so-called "volvelles." The earliest known volvelles emerged in the mid-thirteenth century and were cut out and installed by the reader, often appearing in books dealing with astronomical subjects. The brain processes and remembers images more easily than words--the so-called "picture superiority effect"--especially if the images move, making volvelles a useful method to help students of the Quadrivium memorizing the heavenly movements, thus the composition of a device embedded within a text promises a comprehensive insight into the didactic concepts of early modern knowledge transfer. The Tractatus de Sphaera by Johannes de Sacrobosco (1195-1256), the standard university textbook for astronomy from the thirteenth until the seventeenth century, was particularly noted as containing volvelles of different kinds. The project "The Sphere," located at the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science in Berlin, has collected a corpus of 359 printed De sphaera editions, building a promising basis for examining different volvelles and placing the results in a cultural context. These volumes had never been analyzed in detail before, nor was there such a large corpus that could provide a quantitative database for such an investigation. The results of the book show that a book and knowledge tradition as widespread as that of the Sphaera contained more than one third of volvelles and was used in university teaching in the early modern period. For historians, this sheds light on a new aspect of movable paper instruments in university didactics and book history in the early modern period.

Medical and Dental Uses of Nanotechnology
Nanotechnology offers a diverse array of applications in both medicine and dentistry, spanning from early disease diagnosis to targeted therapies and tissue regeneration. In medicine, programmable nanoparticles can deliver drugs directly to cancer cells, enhancing therapeutic efficacy while minimizing side effects, and molecular "nanoprobes" enable highresolution imaging of cellular and subcellular structures. In dentistry, nanoscale coatings on titanium implants improve osseointegration and prosthetic stability, while antibacterial nanoformulations-such as antibioticloaded nanogels-help control periodontal infections and inhibit biofilm formation. Additionally, electrospun nanofiber scaffolds serve as threedimensional matrices for pulp and dentin regeneration, allowing controlled release of growth factors to accelerate wound healing. Nanosensors capable of detecting salivary biomarkers further permit noninvasive monitoring of both oral and systemic diseases. By integrating nanoscale materials with biomedical technologies, these innovations are transforming diagnostic precision, therapeutic outcomes, and regenerative strategies in healthcare and dental practice.
Enhanced MPPT for Solar PV Using Modified PSO
The Indian government aims to achieve 57% renewable energy by 2030 to meet rising demand, primarily reliant on coal and oil. With a target of 175 GW by 2022, solar energy leads with 100 GW, followed by wind and hydropower. This research develops a diode-based solar photovoltaic model in MATLAB, using an improved particle swarm optimization (PSO) method for duty cycle optimization. By refining acceleration coefficients and velocity factors, the model swiftly tracks global peak power and prevents early convergence. A grid-connected solar system is analyzed, showing minimal transients and stable output, even under partial shading conditions.

Recent Advancement on the World of Neural Networks
A neural network is a group of interconnected units called neurons that send signals to one another. Neurons can be either biological cells or mathematical models. While individual neurons are simple, many of them together in a network can perform complex tasks. There are two main types of neural network namely: In neuroscience, a biological neural network is a physical structure found in brains and complex nervous systems - a population of nerve cells connected by synapses. In the context of biology, a neural network is a population of biological neurons chemically connected to each other by synapses. A given neuron can be connected to hundreds of thousands of synapses. Each neuron sends and receives electrochemical signals called action potentials to its connected neighbors. A neuron can serve an excitatory role, amplifying and propagating signals it receives, or an inhibitory role, suppressing signals instead. In machine learning, a neural network is an artificial mathematical model used to approximate nonlinear functions. While early artificial neural networks were physical machines, today they are almost always implemented in software.

Underground Mathematics
Thomas Morel tells the story of subterranean geometry, a forgotten discipline that developed in the silver mines of early modern Europe. Mining and metallurgy were of great significance to the rulers of early modern Europe, required for the silver bullion that fuelled warfare and numerous other uses. Through seven lively case studies, he illustrates how geometry was used in metallic mines by practitioners using esoteric manuscripts. He describes how an original culture of accuracy and measurement paved the way for technical and scientific innovations, and fruitfully brought together the world of artisans, scholars and courts. Based on a variety of original manuscripts, maps and archive material, Morel recounts how knowledge was crafted and circulated among practitioners in the Holy Roman Empire and beyond. Specific chapters deal with the material culture of surveying, map-making, expertise and the political uses of quantification. By carefully reconstructing the religious, economic and cultural context of mining cities, Underground Mathematics contextualizes the rise of numbered information, practical mathematics and quantification in the early modern period.

Science for Governing Japan’s Population
Twenty-first-century Japan is known for the world's most aged population. Faced with this challenge, Japan has been a pioneer in using science to find ways of managing a declining birth rate. Science for Governing Japan's Population considers the question of why these population phenomena have been seen as problematic. What roles have population experts played in turning this demographic trend into a government concern? Aya Homei examines the medico-scientific fields around the notion of population that developed in Japan from the 1860s to the 1960s, analyzing the role of the population experts in the government's effort to manage its population. She argues that the formation of population sciences in modern Japan had a symbiotic relationship with the development of the neologism, 'population' (jinkō), and with the transformation of Japan into a modern sovereign power. Through this history, Homei unpacks assumptions about links between population, sovereignty, and science. This title is also available as Open Access.
Advances in Robot Path Planning, Volume II
Path planning is fundamental and crucial for various kinds of robots, such as autonomous vehicles, multiple robots, or robot arms. It is crucial to generate a safe path without colliding with obstacles or other robots, in the case of path planning of multiple robots. Considering an aerial robot or underwater robot, a safe path must be planned considering the 3D environment. The complexity of path planning of a robot arm increases significantly as the number of degrees of freedom increases. Thus, safe paths must be generated for high-dimensional systems in a time-efficient manner. In practice, an obstacle may move and, thus, a robot's path must be replanned if necessary. Moreover, it is desirable to consider the dynamic model of a robot when generating a path for the robot. This Special Issue presents the recent research advances in these research topics.
Recycling and Development of New Building Materials or Products
Modern design techniques and construction technologies are based on effective materials and structures that allow for the efficient use of natural resources and the reuse of waste products. Extensive research has been carried out in order to develop effective and sustainable approaches that yield a balance between the construction industry and surrounding environment.
