Cable and Electrical Fires
Cables, as the "arteries" and "nerves" of the national economy, are widely used in energy transmission, information transmission and various motor instruments. However, with the increasing demand for electricity and the energy infrastructure's inevitable aging, cable and electrical fires have become the main cause of fire-related accidents. Our Special Issue, named "Cable and Electrical Fires", compiles current research on cable and electrical fires, as well as present progress to the wider community and encourage further research in this area. Up to now, 11 high-quality articles have been included in this Special Issue. The articles included cover the progress of research on the fire characteristics of cables and wires; hazard and risk evaluation, especially the smoke toxicity hazard; and test standards in cable or electrical fires. We hope that the contributions published within this Special Issue will provide new insights in the field of cable and electrical fire safety. Although considerable research progress has been made on electrical and cable fire mitigation and control, much work remains to be conducted. Here are some promising research directions that may improve cable and electrical fire safety: 1) advanced materials for fire-resistant cables, including non-halogenated flame retardants and smart, self-healing materials; 2) predictive maintenance and monitoring technologies, such as using AI and machine learning to identify patterns indicative of potential fire hazards; and 3) fire safety standards for emerging technologies, including electric vehicles (EVs) and charging stations.

Exoskeleton Robotic Systems
This Special Issue Book presents a collection of articles highlighting recent achievements, applications, studies, and review articles within the field of exoskeleton robotic systems. These contributions cover a wide range of applications of these systems, from the rehabilitation of the upper and lower limbs to assisting human gait when ascending and descending stairs, actuator selection criteria, and the implementation of actuation moment control algorithms. Over the past 20 years, the therapies available in rehabilitation clinics have improved substantially, aided by robotic rehabilitation systems, which have seen rapid progress and increased performance. This progress has contributed to the diversification of the applications of exoskeleton robotic systems, namely, to provide assistance in the following: in climbing up and down stairs, to workers in various activities (carrying weights, working with raised arms, or in a bent position), and even in executing sit-to-stand movements. Exoskeleton robotic systems are used in a wide range of fields, both medical (rehabilitation, paraplegics, and amputees) or non-medical (rescue operations, construction work, etc.). The progress of exoskeleton robotic systems is notable and is visible in both lower-limb and upper-limb exoskeletons. However, there remain challenges, such as optimizing control systems and human-machine interactions.

How Artifacts Afford
A conceptual update of affordance theory that introduces the mechanisms and conditions framework, providing a vocabulary and critical perspective. Technological affordances mediate between the features of a technology and the outcomes of engagement with that technology. The concept of affordances, which migrated from psychology to design with Donald Norman's influential 1988 book, The Design of Everyday Things, offers a useful analytical tool in technology studies--but, Jenny Davis argues in How Artifacts Afford, it is in need of a conceptual update. Davis provides just such an update, introducing the mechanisms and conditions framework, which offers both a vocabulary and necessary critical perspective for affordance analyses. The mechanisms and conditions framework shifts the question from what objects afford to how objects afford, for whom, and under what circumstances. Davis shows that through this framework, analyses can account for the power and politics of technological artifacts. She situates the framework within a critical approach that views technology as materialized action. She explains how request, demand, encourage, discourage, refuse, and allow are mechanisms of affordance, and shows how these mechanisms take shape through variable conditions--perception, dexterity, and cultural and institutional legitimacy. Putting the framework into action, Davis identifies existing methodological approaches that complement it, including critical technocultural discourse analysis (CTDA), app feature analysis, and adversarial design. In today's rapidly changing sociotechnical landscape, the stakes of affordance analyses are high. Davis's mechanisms and conditions framework offers a timely theoretical reboot, providing tools for the crucial tasks of both analysis and design.
