Nevertheless, some challenges and open issues regarding ensuring a full operational use of UAVs remain unanswered.This reprint aims to present recent advances in technologies and algorithms to improve the levels of autonomy, reliability, and safety of UAVs. Microgrids and the Integration of Energy Storage Systems
The decarbonization of the utility grid, market integration, consumer empowerment, and technical innovations will all be are key objectives in international energy policy in the coming decades. Grid integration constraints are limiting the deployment potential of renewable energy sources. Therefore, while renewable energy sources are essential to reaching these key objectives, energy storage is the enabler that facilitates the integration of renewable energy sources in a cost-effective and flexible manner. The diversification of RES generation and integration of energy storage into modern power systems are also leading to the formation of the island microgrids and microgrid clusters/communities required to develop more reliable and sustainable electricity networks. Processing Technology of Brittle Crystal Materials
In this reprint, the mechanical properties and material removal behaviors of brittle crystals and ceramics are evaluated using the nanoindentation and scratch tests. Some advanced processing technologies oforf brittle crystals, ceramics, and composite materials are proposed, such as precision grinding, rotary ultrasonic milling and drilling, continuous polishing, thermal-controlled fracture cutting, laser processing, abrasive flow machining, and the additive manufacturing process. In addition, the relationship between the critical cutting depth and the maximum undeformed chip thickness on the removal mode of brittle materials is analyzed. The theoretical models of grinding force and surface generation are developed by considering the brittle-to-ductile transition, arc-shaped effect, and synchronous vibration of the wheel. These advanced theoretical models and processing methods effectively improve the surface integrity of the workpiece and machining efficiency, and reduced the cutting force and tool wear.
Six Sigma methodology in the primary sawmill process
The research was carried out following the "Six Sigma" methodology; for this purpose, a detailed analysis of the lumber production process was made, including production from the forest to lumber storage. With the help of descriptive statistics, the causes that generated the problem of low yields and poor wood quality, performance parameters and process capacity were identified. For this purpose, tools such as: baseline, cause-effect analysis, Pareto diagram, time and motion study, quality and yield study and Six Sigma analysis were used. It was determined that the production process was defined by the following parameters: the standard production time was 783.5 minutes per production cycle, 34% of the sawn timber was affected by various defects, yields of 229.7 pt/m3 and a sigma level of 2.4. Based on the causes of the problem and analysis of the results, a combined improvement was implemented in the primary sawmilling process and in the storage area.

Fluvial Hydraulics in the Presence of Vegetation in Channels
In many semi- and arid regions, water does not flow from the middle of spring to early fall, leading to the development of vegetation patches with irregular distribution on channel beds and banks. These vegetation patches influence the characteristics of flow in rivers and streams. The presence of vegetation patches on channel beds and banks can be either submerged or emergent. The height of an emergent vegetation patch exceeds water depth, while the height of a submerged vegetation patch is less than the water depth. Vegetation patches on both channel beds and the banks of natural rivers play a significant role in many aspects of the environment, including water quality, sediment transport and bank stability.The aim of this Special Issue was to bring together research results that improve our understanding of fluvial hydraulics in vegetated channels, including the effects of submerged and emergent vegetation on velocity distribution, validation of the logarithmic law, Reynolds stress, turbulence intensities and bursting events for different aspect ratios (the ratio of width to flow depth) over flat gravel beds and 2D and 3D bedforms. The results showed that the determination of key hydraulic parameters such as the roughness coefficient and drag coefficient is influenced by vegetation arrangements and variation in bedforms.

In practice, several experimental tests exist that provide new insights into concrete as a material at the micro, mezzo, and macro levels. Such tests are expensive, but their significance lies in the possibility of implementing material behavior in new numerical models. The development of new numerical models can simulate the behavior of concrete as a building material with improved properties due to a new type of aggregate, some chemical composition, etc. Also numerical models can simulate the behavior of concrete structures whose load capacity can be increased form of fastening. This special issue collected and presented experimental results as well as new numerical simulations of the behavior of concrete as a material and concrete structures. A thorough understanding, which processes affect the reduction of strength and the formation of cracks in concrete, is key to the analysis of existing materials and design of improved innovative materials of concrete and concrete structures.

To this end, experimental research and theoretical analyses were carried out, resulting in the following measurable effects: Experimentally validated an innovative CNG (compressed natural gas supply system with a high degree of substitution of up to 95%, whereas typical substitution in commercial engine installations oscillates around 55%); Experimentally verified the methodology for optimising the CNG fueling system controller software using the developed chassis dynamometer; the influence of the dynamometer's operating parameters on the results obtained was evaluated; Gaseous fuel exchange limits in a dual-fuel CI engine were determined; the effect of the Diesel/CNG exchange ratio on the energy parameters of engine operation and the emission of exhaust gas components was evaluated; The effect of changing the air filter pressure drop in the inlet system of a modern truck engine on the energy parameters of engine operation and changes in the emission of individual components of the exhaust gas and smoke were determined experimentally; The values of the dust absorption coefficient of filter beds made of highly absorptive filtration materials, including the "PowerCore" bed, limited by the achievement of acceptable flow resistance, were determined experimentally with the use of a test dust and particle counter; The range of values of geometrical and flow parameters of the cyclone for which it achieves minimum pressure drop, maximum efficiency and filtration accuracy was determined.
