Mathematical Modelling of Energy Systems and Fluid Machinery 2022
The digitalization of the energy sector is of paramount importance and, at the same time, an ever-increasing phenomenon. For example, it is worth noting how IoT technologies and the widespread utilization of digital twins are changing the way in which energy systems and fluid machinery are conceived and designed. However, this can only be achieved if these new ICT technologies are posed on solid bases for the representation of energy systems and fluid machinery. Therefore, mathematical modelling is still relevant, and its importance cannot be underestimated. This Special Issue, which follows a previous one on the same topic, is intended for a collection of contributions about the mathematical modelling of energy systems and fluid machinery in order to build and consolidate this base of knowledge.

Hydrodynamics and Heat Mass Transfer in Two-Phase Dispersed Flows in Pipes or Ducts
Two-phase gas-liquid flows are frequently encountered in the energy, nuclear, chemical, geothermal, oil and gas and refrigeration industries. Two-phase gas-liquid flows can occur in various forms, such as flows transitioning from pure liquid to vapor as a result of external heating, separated flows behind a flow's sudden expansion or constriction, dispersed two-phase flows where the dispersed phase is present in the form of liquid droplets, or gas bubbles in a continuous carrier fluid phase (i.e. gas or liquid). Typically, such flows are turbulent with a considerable interfacial interaction between the carrier fluid and the dispersed phases. The interfacial heat and mass transfer is very important in the modeling of such flows. The variety of flow regimes significantly complicates the theoretical prediction of hydrodynamics of the two-phase flow. It requires the application of numerous hypotheses, assumptions, and approximations. Often, the complexity of flow structures makes it impossible to theoretically describe its behavior, and so empirical data are applied instead. The correct simulation of two-phase gas-liquid flows is of great importance for safety's sake and the prediction of energy equipment elements.

How To Write A Tech Book
Many technical professionals would like to write a book sharing their knowledge and experience, but most haven't. If you ask them why, it's not from lack of ideas or experience with technical subject matter. Instead, they just don't know how turn their idea into an actual published book. Even though there are some guides for publishing nonfiction books, tech books are unique in the publishing world, and there haven't been any guides that tackle the special process that goes into publishing a tech book. This book aims to change that. Rankin has authored and published a dozen books across multiple traditional tech publishers and also through self-publishing. This book distills his experience into an easy-to-follow guide that explains the full book writing and publishing process step-by-step. AI for Cybersecurity
Cybersecurity models include provisions for legitimate user and agent authentication, as well as algorithms for detecting external threats, such as intruders and malicious software. In particular, we can define a continuum of cybersecurity measures ranging from user identification to risk-based and multilevel authentication, complex application and network monitoring, and anomaly detection. We refer to this as the "anomaly detection continuum". Machine learning and other artificial intelligence technologies can provide powerful tools for addressing such issues, but the robustness of the obtained models is often ignored or underestimated. On the one hand, AI-based algorithms can be replicated by malicious opponents, and attacks can be devised so that they will not be detected (evasion attacks). On the other hand, data and system contexts can be modified by attackers to influence the countermeasures obtained from machine learning and render them ineffective (active data poisoning). This Special Issue presents ten papers that can be grouped under five main topics: (1) Cyber-Physical Systems (CPSs), (2) Intrusion Detection, (3) Malware Analysis, (4) Access Control, and (5) Threat intelligence.AI is increasingly being used in cybersecurity, with three main directions of current research: (1) new areas of cybersecurity are being addressed, such as CPS security and threat intelligence; (2) more stable and consistent results are being presented, sometimes with surprising accuracy and effectiveness; and (3) the presence of an AI-aware adversary is recognized and analyzed, producing more robust solutions.

The GlobalMode5 Vortex Coil. Fluid Flow in Spiral Vortex Structures
Scientific Essay from the year 2023 in the subject Engineering - General, language: English, abstract: This scientific article discusses the globalMode 5 Vortex Coil, more specifically the fluid flow in spiral vortex structures. Fluid-mechanical vortex coils arise as spirally arranged coherent vortex filaments. One can assign physical properties to fluid-mechanical vortex coils, but formally there is no generally valid theory about spiral vortex formations in fluid mechanics. Theoretical key statements about vortex filaments have been known for a long time; the most important are from Helmholtz. A common feature of some modern theoretical approaches to ordered vortex configurations is that they designate coherent vortex formations as connected domains of dominant vortex strength. For the phenomenology of "multiple (n) fluid-mechanical vortex coils" (global mode n vortex coil) presented here, Helmholtz's vortex filament theory, which is considered to be reliable, is first applied to Lagrangian coherent structures and expanded by an approach to the inner milieu of the vortex filaments. Structures of this kind form systems that are capable of momentum induction, which in turn organizes the field at rest. For the presence of well-grouped vortex filaments, there is a conjecture about the self-organization (autopoiesis) of vortex filaments in a flow field.
Advanced Analysis for Three-Dimensional Semi-Rigid Steel Frames subjected to Static and Dynamic Loadings
Doctoral Thesis / Dissertation from the year 2014 in the subject Engineering - Civil Engineering, grade: 9, course: Advanced Steel Structures, language: English, abstract: This dissertation presents three various advanced analysis approaches which can capture accurately and efficiently the ultimate strength and behavior of steel framed structures with nonlinear beam-to-column connections subjected to static and dynamic loadings. Three major sources of nonlinearity are considered in the analyses as follows: (1) material nonlinearity; (2) geometric nonlinearity; and (3) connection nonlinearity. Three types of nonlinear beam-column element formulation considering both geometric and material nonlinearities are coded into two nonlinear structural analysis programs: (1) Nonlinear Structural Analysis Program (NSAP) - 2-D plastic-zone finite element; (2) Practical Advanced Analysis Program (PAAP) - 3-D refined plastic-hinge element and 3-D plastic-fiber element. Three types of steel frames analyzed by the proposed program are: (1) rigid frames - beam-to-column connections are fully rigid; (2) linear semi-rigid frames - beam-to-column connections have constant stiffness; and (3) nonlinear semi-rigid frames - beam-to-column connections have continuously variable stiffness. Three types of analysis can be performed are: (1) nonlinear inelastic static analysis; (2) nonlinear elastic and inelastic time-history analysis; and (3) free vibration analysis. Three main resources of damping are taken into account in the proposed programs are: (1) hysteretic damping due to inelastic material; (2) structural viscous damping employing Rayleigh damping; (3) hysteretic damping due to nonlinear beam-to-column connections. Two computer programs are developed: (1) Nonlinear Structural Analysis Program (NSAP) - written in the C++ programming language; (2) Practical Advanced Analysis Program (PAAP) - written in the FORTRAN 77 programming language. They are verified for accuracy and computation

Industrial Chemistry Reaction
The impressive progress in commercially available computers nowadays allows the solving of complicated mathematical problems in many scientific and technical fields. This revolution has created a surge in chemical engineering science. More sophisticated approaches to catalysis, kinetics, reactor design and simulation have been developed thanks to the powerful new calculation methods available. It is well known that many chemical reactions of great interest for industrial processes and conducted on a large scale need information ranging from thermodynamics to kinetics and transport phenomena related to mass, energy and momentum. For a reliable industrial-scale reactor design, all of this information must be employed into appropriate equations and mathematical models that allow for accurate and reliable simulations for scale-up purposes. A challenge is to collect, in a measurable volume, the main advances and trends in the field of industrial chemistry thanks to the contributions of some pioneers of scientific and technological progress. We can achieve this by reviewing their past activity in the field, or providing, through original manuscripts, examples of the modern approach to the investigation of industrial chemistry reactions.
Various Deep Learning Algorithms in Computational Intelligence
This reprint highlights the importance of Deep Learning (DL), which has garnered significant attention in science, industry, and academia. It draws inspiration from the functioning of the human brain and the concept of learning. Indoor Environmental Quality and Occupant Comfort
The experience of a good indoor environment can result in positive perceptual outcomes, which is related to the occupant's well-being. Conversely, noise, uncomfortable temperatures and humidity, dim light, poor air quality, and pungent smells can compromise occupants' life quality, negatively affect their place experience, or even reduce personal health. In order to ensure positive indoor environments for occupants, a perceptual quality assessment has been introduced and extensively studied in recent years. Influenced by indoor environmental quality (IEQ), it is necessary and beneficial to explore how humans perceive and what effects indoor environments. It is necessary for designers and researchers to address these issues associated with indoor environmental quality. Therefore, this Special Issue aims to gather articles that discuss indoor environmental quality and occupant comfort. The articles in this Special Issue encompass different research categories, ranging from conceptual analyses and reviews to research papers. These studies have investigated the characterization and perception of both individual indoor environments and complex environmental interactions, along with their management and design implications. The focuses of these investigations include both theoretical aspects (such as the relationships between environmental quality and psychological or physiological reactions) and methodological aspects (such as protocols and procedures of gathering objective and subjective data).
