South Indian Portraits deals extensively with the different types of sculptures and portraits found in various temples and how they found a significant place in the monuments and temples of India Written by T.G. Aravamuthan, this book is a notable contribution to the art and history of south Indian archaeology. Portrait sculptures have been found in various parts of India. Even in the nooks and corners of south India and in its earliest monurnents we come across sculptures which are indubitably portraits. Nowhere else in India, has the art been so persistent or drawn more freely from the people as in South India. A few references in Sanskrit literature are utilised later in discussing the evolution of portrait sculpture. The earliest Tamil literature now available contains indications of the popularity of sculptures portraying human beings. Fully illustrated with samples from various sources, the instinct for portraiture was persistent in the south than in the north.

Each part is divided into two sections; the first section is text discussing the family and the evidence supporting the relationships and the second section is a descendants chart summarizing the relationships and information known about each individual.The appendices to the work (of which this document is one) present source records for persons named Wright by county and by type of record with the identification of the person named and their Wright ancestors to the extent known.The identification of a person or their ancestor by year and county indicates their year of death and county of residence at death. For example, "1763 Thomas Wright of Bedford County" indicates that this was the Thomas Wright who died in 1763 in Bedford County. If no state is listed after the county, the state is Virginia; counties in states other than Virginia will have a state listed after the county.A parenthetical after the name indicates an identification of the person when a place of death is not yet known, as in "John Wright (Goochland County Carpenter)". A county in parentheses after the name indicates the county with which that person was most identified when no evidence of the place of death has yet been found, as in "Grief Wright (Bedford County)".

Kentucky Memories of Uncle Sam Williams
Sam Williams was born in Paris, Kentucky, in 1831. He became a newspaper man and worked on papers in Kentucky and Illinois until after the Civil War. He then moved to Kansas City where he was part-owner of two different papers. He came to the St. Louis Post and worked with Joseph Pulitzer. He died in St. Louis in 1928.Sam Williams' grandmother "remembered riding in George Washington's carriage" and his father, "as a small boy, peeped over through the side-boards of a wagon and saw American Revolutionary War soldiers marching to fight. ... When he determined to put some of these tales, some of his family history, in written form, Samuel Williams used as his sources his own good memory, several biographical and genealogical works, and a few fragments he possessed of his father's autobiography. He arranged the material around certain members of his family: his grandfather Williams, his parents, his brothers and sisters and his daughter Clara." This publication offers a comprehensive genealogy of the R羹cker and Prihoda families, opening with the history and geography of Bohemia and the Czechs. Biographical background information for each member of the R羹cker family from the first through fourth generation is given in the next section, followed by a genealogical summary. The earliest record found on the R羹cker family is that of the marriage of Ignaz R羹cker to Josefa Vesela in West Bohemia in 1822. Their grandson, Charles (Karel) R羹cker came to America in 1886. His younger brother, Adolf, was the grandfather of the author. The earliest known event for the Prihoda family is the marriage of Jan Prihoda to Zofie Zimova in 1692. The time period covered extends from the late 17th century to the present day. The author also includes a chapter on the R羹cker cemetery plot, discussing its location as well as the location of specific graves, along with a few cemetery records. The next section covers the first ten generations of the Prihoda family, offering detailed biographies for each member, highlighting their accomplishments and major life events. Following the biographical background data on each of the known family members, a genealogical summary is given using the Modified Register System. Females are referenced under their maiden and all married surnames. A total of 88 photographs and figures are scattered throughout this work to bring life to the text and preserve the legacy of these families. Each part is divided into two sections; the first section is text discussing the family and the evidence supporting the relationships and the second section is a descendants chart summarizing the relationships and information known about each individual.The appendices to the work (of which this document is one) present source records for persons named Wright by county and by type of record with the identification of the person named and their Wright ancestors to the extent known.The identification of a person or their ancestor by year and county indicates their year of death and county of residence at death. For example, "1763 Thomas Wright of Bedford County" indicates that this was the Thomas Wright who died in 1763 in Bedford County. If no state is listed after the county, the state is Virginia; counties in states other than Virginia will have a state listed after the county.A parenthetical after the name indicates an identification of the person when a place of death is not yet known, as in "John Wright (Goochland County Carpenter)". A county in parentheses after the name indicates the county with which that person was most identified when no evidence of the place of death has yet been found, as in "Grief Wright (Bedford County)".

Before you start using it, I suggest that you complete our first two Japanese Readers, Learn to Read in Japanese, Volumes I and II. After that, please consider alternating between the books, first drilling yourself on the kanji and then re-reading the text in the Readers. On each of the pages in this book, you will see three columns. In the first column, there is a kanji character followed by a small number that indicates the number of pronunciations that you should try to learn for that character. In the second column, you will see the kanji's unique listing number, taken from the Kanji Catalogue in the Reader. Also in the second column, there are mnemonics (which we also call Cues in the Catalogue) that are designed to approximate the Japanese pronunciations and help you to remember them. Finally, in the third column, there are sample Japanese words that contain the actual kanji readings. Where feasible, I have sorted the kanji into informal groups of similar characters and arranged these characters so that they fit within the confines of a single page, to make it easier for students to compare them. In order to use this book effectively, I suggest that you use three tools: 1) an index card, about 3 x 5 inches in size, 2) a pen with a fine point and 3) an eraser tool. The purpose of the index card is to conceal the second and third columns while you test yourself on the pronunciations of the kanji characters in the first column. The purpose of the pen is to make small erasable dots in the margin to the left of any kanji whose pronunciations you cannot readily recall. Finally, the purpose of the eraser tool is to erase those dots after you have successfully re-tested yourself on the missed kanji. I recommend that you use the "Pentel Presto Jumbo Correction Pen Fine Point" for the eraser tool. Studying kanji through memorization drills can have a calming effect on the mind. Sitting away from electronic screens, one holds a drill book and an index card, focusing on a single isolated kanji character while trying to recall its shape and its various pronunciations. When an error is made, the only consequence is a small dot in the margin - a gentle prompt to come back and review the character later. In contrast, the correct identification of a kanji and its readings delivers a brief rush of energy and a renewed sense of confidence. A message to readers from the compiler: Why Mifflin County, Pennsylvania? For a very selfish reason - Mifflin County is where the first known records of my third-great-grandfather were created. As of July 2025, I will celebrate the 52nd anniversary of the beginning of my search for David SCOTT, Sr.'s parents and siblings. The search is both wearing and energizing. I mean, what would I do if I actually found what I have been looking for? (Those of you with similar brick walls, have you ever considered the answer to that question?)Although a lot of Mifflin County records are not easily accessible, these Orphans' Court records are available through the FamilySearch Catalog. However, there are no indexes to them. So it seemed prudent to transcribe and index them to make finding individuals easier.Sadly, these records do not definitively establish a relationship between the participants. There may be clues, but some additional work will probably be required to discover them. What they do reveal is (a) an approximation of the time of death of the principles, and (b) those who participated in the winding-up process of probate for those individuals. In a worst-case scenario, the only thing you may learn is (c) that your POI (Person of Interest) was on the ground in this area at this time.Please make generous allowances for spelling (both the original writers and the compiler's handwriting interpretation skills). If most of the consonants of your name are there, give it a second look. And ideally, look at the actual record. Frame numbers are provided to allow for easy access to the actual image from which the information was taken. - Happy hunting!
