The three volumes of land deed records by the Marsh's contain the names of approximately 45,000 of the earliest settlers of this area of Middle Tennessee. Each is filled with original North Carolina Military Grants issued to soldiers who served in the North Carolina Continental Line. This vast Military Reservation encompassed a 55 mile strip that covered all of the Northern half of Middle Tennessee. Deeds are one of the favorite research tools of the genealogists due to the wide variety of family connections found within. Not only will the reader find the deed transcription itself, but often times such things as: marriages, relinquishments of dower, divisions of family farms among heirs, remarriages of widows are just a few of the matters you can anticipate finding within records of deeds.

The Gunns

Gunns are best thought of as the original, non-related inhabitants of northern, mainland Scotland. They do not have an Orkney Islands origin. Gunns should not be viewed as a clan as they had no founding ancestor. There was never an historic 'Clan Gunn Chief'. The first Gunn known to history was Coroner Gunn of Caithness who died around 1450. His eldest son started the MacHamish Gunns of Killernan line - many descendants from that line exist all around the world. Major detail on this MacHamish line is included. One of my first experiences as a Boy Scout was to attend summer camp at Camp Billy Gibbons, located in San Saba County, Texas. The name of the man for whom the camp was named meant nothing to me at that time, other than that it was a really cool place. Camp Billy Gibbons was located in a very remote but beautiful area, situated along the junction of Brady Creek and the San Saba River. Little did I realize that 11 years later I would marry one of the great-granddaughters of Billy Gibbons, an Irish immigrant during the last Potato Famine. It was then that I began to learn about the man himself - a self-made man who was not only a hugely successful pioneer livestock rancher, but a banker, owner of real estate across the state, and more importantly, a generous man who was a benefactor of schools, churches, the Boy Scouts, and people in need throughout the area he now called home. He was truly a legend in his own time.

African American Cemeteries in Harford County, Maryland
There are twenty-three African American cemeteries in Harford County, Maryland. Some of the tombstones and grave markers were copied by various people at times since the 1960s and the information was filed with the Historical Society of Harford County; however, the author realized that these lists were incomplete and an update was needed. In 2018 the author visited these African American cemeteries and copied every tombstone and grave marker he could find. Interestingly, some of the markers copied previously were not found and others had been overlooked. Many of those interred did not have a tombstone and while some had temporary funeral home markers, others had handmade wooden crosses and even a few were handwritten on flat cement slabs. Many inscriptions included nicknames, Biblical quotes, poetic verses, photographs, images, and family relationships. Thousands were buried without any markers of any kind being placed on their graves. To compensate for this lack of information, the author conducted additional research and found more burials in some death certificates, some obituaries, some extant funeral home records, namely J. A. Pennington in Havre de Grace and E. G. Kurtz in Jarrettsville, and a few monuments made by the J. C. Taylor Marble Co. His efforts resulted in 6,854 burials being identified and collected for this book, which by no means contains all of the burials in the African American cemeteries in Harford County, Maryland, but it goes a long way in helping to identify many of the people who are buried here. This work has been compiled as a research tool to be used in assisting family history researchers in locating the graves and learning more about their departed ancestors. It is more than a listing of names and dates since most contain family relationships and biographical information, including civic and military service in many cases. It is arranged alphabetically, which precludes the need for a separate index, and at the end of each entry the name of the cemetery is indicated in brackets. The First Presbyterian Church at Caldwell, earlier called the First Presbyterian Church at Horse-Neck, and its cemetery are listed in the New Jersey Register of Historic Places. The purpose here is to resequence and validate the index. What typically results from a Campbell Index is a jumble that requires users to flip back and forth between groups of pages throughout the entire index to seek out where various groups are continued elsewhere.This present index is largely made up of entries to deeds, being either: bargain and sales, bills of sale, or trust deeds. Of additional interest may be: bonds for officials (including ministers), marriage contracts, estate divisions, plats, or even Homestead deeds. No bonds are recorded in the deed books after 1892 (Deed Book 56). The index also reflects entries in a book titled Deeds of Release No. 1, which contains only thirty-nine pages of written information.Some deficiencies in the original index have been addressed here. The Kanyikela Genealogy
The search for family roots can be fascinating and interesting. Everyone's path is different, with its own peculiar twists and turns. Each bend in the trail, each landmark along the way, has its own charm and story. We only come to realize the true value of our family tree after circumstances have forced us to retrace our steps and learn the lesson they have to teach in life. This book is a genealogy study which traces Kanyikela Community and Ka Nyotieno family ancestry back to their origin. Particular interest and attention were focused on the Kanyotieno family in Kanyikela Community, Luo Nyanza in Kenya. The Kanyotieno family met at Ezekiel Ogola Ojwang's home and requested for the publication of a book revealing their genealogy. The book takes into consideration and identifies some of the economic, social and political reasons that forced Kanyikela people besides other Luo Community to relocate from Southern Sudan through Uganda to Asembo in Central Nyanza to Ndhiwa, South Nyanza where they currently reside and having two Locations: South Kanyikela Location and North Kanyikela Location. It describes the events that occurred during their lifetimes that had an effect on their existence. The genealogical information of Kanyikela community and particularly Kanyotieno family dating back to the 18thCentury, was primarily gathered from oral literature and interviews with elderly Kanyikela people such as: Okeno Gudu, Isaya Okeno, Camlus Buga, Hezron Ochieng, Yustino Ogutu, Shadrack Orwe, Joram Lwambe Okola, Peter Elkana Agola, Wilson Ododa Oyaya, Caleb Obanda, Jack Francis Ojwang, Mahalone Ojwang Lwambe, Hanah Oluga Obambo, Okombo Otipa, Oyoyo Ochola, Obura Odongo, Hesbon Odera, Shem Barack Odero and many other Kanyikela elders. The author had to compile and keep all these records, do the critical analysis with the help of the taskforce committe and come out with this book. The book opens the door for the readers to see the great wonders of the world in live pictures from sunrise to sunset. It tells a true story of every member of Kanyikela Community and Kanyotieno family from birth to death for a span of nearly seven generations. With this book in place, our children will never be left out for knowing where they came from. Since nowadays elderly people don't sit down with their grandchildren to tell them about their past real-life stories, this book will teach the younger generation to know their genealogy in a written form unlike in the past when our ancestors used to impart such valuable knowledge from generation to generation through word of mouth.

This volume is the fourteenth in the author's series on Maryland marriages and the sixth book for Harford County. It is a comprehensive compilation of about 1,000 marriages, actual and implied, for the five years from 1876 through 1880 for persons married during that time and who also remarried later, and the marriages of many of their children. Marriages and vital information were gleaned from license books, marriage certificates, probate records, court records, divorce cases, newspaper articles, tombstone inscriptions, church registers, Bible records, census records, obituaries, death certificates, military records, some family histories and secondary sources, plus information provided by others whose names have been cited within the text.As with his previous marriage books this one is much more than just a listing of names and dates. In many instances the readers will find complete dates of birth and death, full names of parents, grandparents, children and other relations, places of residences and later migrations, occupations, military service, subsequent marriages, ministers, divorces, separations, some children's marriages, nicknames, and more. Marriages have also been noted for some persons who resided in other states and counties who had a family connection to Harford County. In many cases there is ample information about family relationships to enable researchers to establish some family lineages into the 20th century.The reader will also find in many instances in this book the date that the parties obtained a marriage license followed by the date they actually married. History of the Town of Rye, New Hampshire from its Discovery and Settlement to December 31, 1903
First settled in 1623, the "Parish of Rye in New Castle" did not become a township until after the American Revolution. The 1773 census counted a population of 842 inhabitants; by 1886 the count had risen to about 1,000. A manageable size, then, for the author who managed to mention practically everybody who ever lived in Rye! There is a chapter on "Some old Residents and where they lived," a "Record of Town Officers" and a 279-page "Genealogy" covering about 600 family names, plus marriage and death records of those not mentioned in the genealogies. Also included is a history of the Isles of Shoals, the New Hampshire side of which, Star Island mainly, became the town of Gosport in 1715. During the Revolutionary War, Gosport was evacuated and the town never regained its former prominence. After 1876, Gosport as a town was abolished and the southerly half of the Isles of Shoals became part of Rye. The rest of the book covers, among other aspects, town affairs, ecclesiastical history, schools, roads, bridges, inns, taverns, and its development as a summer resort. The narrative is enhanced by a general index, a name index, two maps and more than fifty(1905, 1992, 2010), 2021, 51/2x81/2, paper, index, 688 ppphotographs and drawings.
The Railroad Skunk

Discovering Nicholas Ackley
This genealogy focuses on Nicholas Ackley, born about 1630 most likely in the East Anglia area of England to Puritan parents. He arrived in Hartford, Connecticut about 1650. In 1662, Nicholas was one of 28 young men who agreed to carve a new town out of the wilderness at what became Haddam, Connecticut. Nicholas and Hannah Ackley welcomed 10 children, 5 boys and 5 girls. After Hannah's death in the mid-1680s, Nicholas married the widow Miriam. Less than a decade later, Nicholas Ackley died, on 29 April 1695 in Haddam. Nearly half a millennium later, myths and errors about Nicholas Ackley and his family are splashed over various genealogy sites on the internet. This book details what documented facts exist and what else is most likely to be true, using the norms and customs of the time as a guide. Chester County was formed in 1785 as a county of Camden District. Prior to the border surveys of 1764 and 1772, the area was included in the North Carolina counties of Anson, Mecklenburg, and Tryon. For this reason many grants and deeds from North Carolina are referenced in the Chester County deeds. Chester County bordered on the counties of York, Fairfield, Union, Kershaw, and Lancaster.The deeds in this volume were recorded 1785-1799. As is common, there are deeds recorded from a much earlier time period. The earliest deed included in this work dates from 17 November 1768. With the beginning of county courts in South Carolina, deeds were required to be either acknowledged or proved by the oaths of two witnesses until 1788. Deeds which had been proved prior to 1785 before a Justice of the Peace were frequently accepted on that proof and recorded. Beginning in 1788 only one witness was required to prove a deed before recording. The deeds in this volume have been abstracted from South Carolina Archives microfilm, Rolls C2268, C2269, and C2270.Abstracts typically include: deed book and page number(s), date of sale/lease, name of grantor/lessor, name of grantee/lessee, the grantee/lessee's county and/or district of residence, amount charged and/or paid, number of acres and location of property, names of witnesses, name of justice of the peace and/or other official approving deed, date approved, and date recorded.
