Getting Rid of Depression and Anxiety Disorders Using Schema Therapy
The unpleasant consequences of the rapid and uncontrollable advancement of technology have forced a number of researchers and therapists in the humanities to think of a solution. A group of therapists known as cognitive therapists and schema therapists believe that thinking, or in a broader sense, cognition, plays a fundamental and important role in how human behavior occurs. In other words, human action depends on thinking and the extent to which he emphasizes his erroneous beliefs and perceptions about the origin of psychological problems. This book has five chapters.

The Logic of Psychology
Throughout its history, the science of psychology has been attempting to find its footing. Its theories, ideas and perspectives remain disparate - the incongruities presumed to be a natural by-product of its subject matter. Psychology appears to have no logic to drive theory, achieve unities and confer intersubjective agreement. This starkly contrasts with physical science, which has so successfully harnessed mathematics and all the agreement it confers, and given us an extraordinary mastery of the physical world. The logic within mathematics has afforded us this mastery, and the means to view the physical world very simply. This simplicity has proven far less effective though in advancing our understanding of psychology. But the failure of historical rationality to be as effective for psychology as it has for physics is not only due to the complicated nature of psychological subject matter. Classical rationality is missing a lot of essentials without which the subject matter of psychology cannot be conceptualized in the well-formed way required. With its wealth of implications and applications, richness and rigor, the logic of psychology has universality, facilitates insight - and offers a well-founded, satisfying understanding of self-and-world.
Lifespan Development
Lifespan Development aligns to the topics and objectives of most introductory developmental psychology courses taught across departments. Grounded in foundational theories and scientific research, the text teaches students about core aspects of human development-physical, cognitive, social, emotional-across the lifespan. A primary goal of the book is to incorporate content, scholarship, and activities that explore a variety of perspectives that encourage all students to feel seen and included.Lifespan Development strives to openly address complex topics with scholarly responsibility and an effort to increase equity and inclusion in the research presented, as well as to foster student engagement in the classroom through relevant examples and applications. Focused on driving meaningful and memorable learning experiences, the narrative places concepts in contexts that give students the means to understand human development and how that knowledge can be applied to and improve their own lives and the lives of others.
Personality Measures As Predictors of Long-Term Employment in Air Force Officers
High degrees of organizational turnover have been associated with decreased customer satisfaction, increased customer turnover, decreased employee productivity, decreased organizational performance, and decreased profitability. As such, more than 1,500 studies have been performed in the past 50 years on the topics of retention and turnover. This study aimed to examine possible relationships between the personality make up of Air Force officers and their retention within the United States Air Force. If present, such relationships might offer avenues for improving recruitment and retention efforts within the Air Force. Between 1996 and 1997, 318 officer candidates attending the United States Air Force Officer Training School were administered personality surveys, including measures for extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, openness to experience, emotional stability, positive and negative affect, and general self-efficacy. In 2009, the Air Force Personnel Center records of these officers were examined, and separation and retention data was collected for each participant. A correlation study was performed in order to determine which (if any) personality measures held significant relationships with observed turnover. Other variables were also considered, including job satisfaction, organizational commitment, and prior enlisted service. None of the personality measures demonstrated a significant relationship with turnover. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it. Questioning Conventional Assumptions of Competition Dynamics
Competition permeates various facets of our lives, from the job market to sports arenas, influencing resource allocation, recognition opportunities, and societal dynamics. However, entrenched notions in social sciences, particularly the assumption of a linear correlation between competition and inequality within free-market systems, can limit perspectives. This book challenges such assumptions, delving deeper into the multifaceted nature of competition dynamics. Drawing from extensive literature and empirical data across diverse systems, cultures, and eras, it offers readers a nuanced understanding of competition's complexities. Contrary to prevailing beliefs, competition's roots are not solely tied to Western individualism and capitalism. By examining competition through cultural, economic, and political lenses, this book enables readers to recognize that such an assumption represents only a selective portion of competition dynamics. By embracing an interdisciplinary approach, this book encourages readers to reevaluate their perspectives on competition, recognizing its varied sources and consequences beyond conventional paradigms.

Putting the Psychoanalytic Frame to Work
Psychoanalysis is not just about what happens in the room - it is also about the structure that holds it all together. In Putting the Psychoanalytic Frame to Work, Allannah Furlong rethinks one of the traditional approaches to the analytic frame, arguing that disruptions - missed sessions, consent complexities, and third-party demands - are not necessarily obstacles but can be essential moments for deepening therapeutic insight. The book argues for a benevolent expectation of "trouble" as an inherent part of the therapeutic couple getting to know each other more deeply, and as an aspect which distinguishes the psychoanalytic frame from that usually taught by professional regulatory bodies. Furlong proposes that the analyst or psychoanalytic therapist welcome framework glitches as opportunities to "put the framework to work" rather than simply disposing of them as acting out or error. In so doing, the book invites clinicians to critically examine different theoretical approaches to the framework and its inevitable breaches.A why-to rather than a how-to book, Putting the Psychoanalytic Frame to Work aims to invigorate the practice of analysts everywhere - both seasoned and in training.Allanah Furlong discusses her work on the IPA podcast "On and off the Couch" with Harvey Schwartz https: //ipaoffthecouch.org/2026/02/08/episode-197-when-the-analytic-frame-groans-with-allannah-furlong-phd-montreal/

The Science of Living
The Science of Living-Abridged EditionIn this landmark work, Austrian psychiatrist Alfred Adler-founder of Individual Psychology-presents his core ideas about human behavior, personality development, and the challenges of everyday life. Drawing on years of clinical experience, The Science of Living offers a clear, practical framework for understanding how feelings of inferiority, striving for significance, and social connectedness shape who we are.Accessible and humane, Adler explores topics such as love, work, family, and the education of children, showing how our beliefs about ourselves and our place in society guide the choices we make. Rejecting deterministic models of biology and Freudian theory, Adler emphasizes courage, social interest, and the creative power of the individual to shape their own life.First published in 1929, The Science of Living remains a cornerstone of modern psychotherapy and self-development literature-compassionate, optimistic, and strikingly modern in its emphasis on personal growth and social contribution.
Between Trauma and Memory
This book is a collection of essays covering diverse perspectives within the study of trauma and memory. In its compartmentalisation into four sections, the book diligently analyses the literary representations of trauma and memory in the micro and macro levels of cultural contexts. Analysis of these representations can illuminate societal attitudes toward trauma, memory, and healing, as well as shed light on larger issues such as war, violence, oppression, and injustice, and help the readers gain a deeper understanding of the complexities of human emotions, reactions, and coping mechanisms. The ethical questions discussed in the book also engage with the notions of authenticity, and responsibility, prompting the readers with a sense of validation and solidarity.
Positive Existential Psychology for the Prevention of Extremism
Many scientific works and studies have focused on the phenomena of extremism and violent radicalization. However, very few resources exist to effectively address this issue from an educational perspective. The diagnoses are often fragmented and give prominence to geopolitical and socio-political factors. Yet an interdisciplinary analysis of the processes of extremism and radicalization indicates the central role of biographical, psychological, or even psychopathological variables and traumas. How can we draw deep lessons from this to innovate in education and truly give ourselves the means to prevent these processes of extremism and radicalization? This book, deliberately choosing positive and existential psychology as a resource, proposes to answer this question with the support of scientific and creative resources that finally address and respond to the root causes. These resources are adapted to socio-educational professions and understandable by parents. They finally restore courage, ideas, and motivating and positive approaches for all those who want to take up this increasingly widespread and threatening challenge within our societies. At the same time, these resources make it possible to work on the transmission of values, strengths, and to contribute to the mental health and fulfilment of our youth, a capital theme if there ever was one.
The Detached Advantage
Rejection is not a defeat; it is an invitation. You do not fight harder to keep what is passing, but to be clear, strong and gracious when you come back to yourself. It may seem like a loss, but it is the initiation of sovereignty. When you quit, you quit chasing, quit pleading, quit overexplaining, you make room- at least in relationships, but also in identity. Detachment isn't apathy. It is dynamism, not desperation. It is having the courage to say, my peace is my right, my values and principles are the only comprehensible thing, and my worth is far greater than the unnecessary and unreasonable slowness of another person. The Detached Advantage is the art of withdrawal without collapse. Taking away a step, not to penalize, but to save what is sacred, your mental lucidity, your self-respect, your development. It is the appreciation that value can not be validated by proximity; value is embodied by absence. That even walking away properly speaks louder than any argument can ever speak. It is creating a life in which rejection transforms into polishing. In a culture where self-esteem is not cultivated, and where speaking is regarded as a sign of weakness. And you cease to be afraid of no, saying that now you no longer require yes to make you complete. A purposeful leader who performs on principle and remains soft without being influenced. In love, in work, in life, you learn to be without attachment, to desire without ambition and to be in relation without need. And after a time, when you finally detach, completely and with love, something very surprising occurs: you become magnetic. Not simply because you made an effort, but because you have come to be whole. Just because of rejection, the end is not gone. It is your actual origin. The point you either give up attempting to be selected or switch and select yourself.
