Faith is a Journey
The Jubilee of 2025, together with the essential dimension of hope, must push us to an ever-greater awareness of the fact that faith is a pilgrimage and that we on this Earth are pilgrims, not tourists or wanderers.... We are pilgrims....To walk like a pilgrim means that we have a landing place, that our movement has a direction, a goal. To walk means to have a destination and to not be at the mercy of chance....Those who have God in their hearts have received the gift of a North Star to strive for -the love we have received from God is the reason for the love we must offer to other people.
The Devils' Gospels
Can we find religious inspiration in great atheist writing? It is a paradoxical challenge but an urgent one. The gap between secular and religious understandings of the world has become impossibly wide. It is damaging Christianity and cutting young people off from the possibility of faith. Yet if God exists, everything we learn about the world should tell us more about God. The Devils' Gospels started in a youth discussion group at Oxford's University Church. Each month the author would introduce a different atheist book to the teenagers to see where the discussion would lead. Four of the best are given the status of 'gospels' here: Friedrich Nietzsche's Thus Spoke Zarathustra, Jacques Derrida's Writing and Difference, Stephen Hawking's A Brief History of Time, and Richard Dawkins' The God Delusion. These books each have, in their own way, shaped the world we live in today. The Devils' Gospels captures the energy of their ideas in language simple enough for a bright 11-year-old to understand, and uses it to shed greater light on the nature of God. But it is not just written for intelligent teenagers trying to find their way towards belief. It is aimed at two other important groups: Christians who feel that they aren't getting the answers that matter from the Church, and non-believers who want to explore the possibility that there may be more to life than physics and biology.
A Light in the Night
The theme of the Jubilee of 2025 is hope, a virtue that is often forgotten and neglected while it remains a central element in the life of the believer. Pope Francis, with his gestures and his words, is an indomitable witness of hope, understood as the spiritual action of one who does not surrender to the night of evil in the world and does not make do with the worn-out words of consolation that are often repeated like slogans. He who lives by hope, on the other hand, says Francis, collaborates with God to 'make all things new'.
Embodiment, Dependence, and God
The significance of our physical bodies is an important topic in contemporary philosophy and theology. Reflection on the body often assumes, even if only implicitly, idealizations that obscure important facts about what it means for humans to be 'enfleshed.' This Element explores a number of ways that reflection on bodies in their concrete particularities is important. It begins with a consideration of why certain forms of idealization are philosophically problematic. It then explores how a number of features of bodies can reveal important truths about human nature, embodiment, and dependence. Careful reflection on the body raises important questions related to community and interdependence. The Element concludes by exploring the ethical demands we face given human embodiment. Among other results, this Element exposes the reader to a wide diversity of human embodiment and the nature of human dependence, encouraging meaningful theological reflection on aspects of the human condition.
Monotheism & Paradise
This Element will provide an essential tracing of selected Greek views of the afterlife which engage in dynamic tension with the Christian understanding of Paradise as fulfilled in the Resurrected state. The main three sections in this Element are Ideas of the Afterlife in the Greek Tragedians; Plato: The Difficulty of Paradise; and Holiness and Violence: A Christian View of the Resurrected State. The imposition of justice and the expiation of guilt through suffering are necessary prerequisites to our approach to the relationship between Monotheism and Paradise. Additional discussions will focus on weak theology and of a God not transcendent enough to ensure the desire for Heaven. As such, the sections are organized to isolate and trace this thread.

Monotheism and Religious Experience
In the monotheistic traditions, there are people who report having special experiences that justify their monotheistic beliefs. They see, hear, or otherwise experience directly the one true God, ruler of the universe. In order to understand what is going on in these experiences and how we should respond to reports of these experiences, it is important to understand what religious experiences can and can't be, what the claim of monotheism entails, and therefore how what reports of such experiences mean, both for the experiencer and for the recipient of the report.

More Musings on Faith by an Ordinary Bloke
Geoffrey Ring's latest book delves further into his personal journey of faith. He explores the relevance of the Church, religion and the existence of God. If you have ever wondered about these, or just don't believe, then this book is for you. It is certainly a unique perspective from someone who isn't ordained, has had no formal theological training, does not profess to be an ecclesiastical expert but, as the title suggests, is just an ordinary bloke. A bloke who has found comfort and solace at some of the most trying times in his life by turning to his faith. More Musings on Faith by an Ordinary Bloke is the story of a journey that he didn't always realise he was on but one that, in the end, showed him how he could survive difficult times. It's a book that is suitable for all ages, for those trying to make sense of that RI lesson, have found traditional help inadequate, or are just trying to understand what folk see in all this faith stuff. It won't give you all the answers. It's all about an invitation to share the journey to try and find them.
Love by the Master
Love by the Master is about two cousins who grew up more as sisters. They did everything together and were wonderfully close. Once in college, they took different paths in life. Millie's choices came with many hurdles filled with heartache. Liz looked to God for guidance, and the challenges she faced were quite different. Liz's roommate in college proved to be more than just a roommate. She loved the Lord and was instrumental in helping Liz taking on a challenge that she found she dearly loved-a blessing that came full circle.

Divine Intimacy
The book invites readers into a transformative journey of deepening their relationship with Jesus. This insightful book explores the profound connection that believers can experience with Christ and the powerful impact it can have on their lives. Drawing from biblical teachings and personal experiences, the book delves into the essence of what it means to abide in Christ and cultivate a relationship marked by divine intimacy. It addresses how this intimate union with Christ can lead to spiritual growth, empowerment, and a more profound understanding of God's presence in everyday life. The content is well laid from the concept of our union with Christ and call to abide vis-?-vis the consequences of not abiding in Christ and the blessedness of our connection with Him. There is also a discourse on the secret of fruitfulness as well as the evidence of fruitfulness, the Pruning Knife of God, the Place of God's Word and the need to dwell in the Secret Place. The book is a valuable guide on how to cultivate a life of prayer, studying Scripture, and practising the teachings of God in everyday life. Divine Intimacy is both a guide and a source of inspiration.
Meditation For All
The practice of meditation is often connected to a specific spiritual tradition but all religions use some form of meditative practice. With over 100 different exercises and an expansive exploration of the purposes and uses of meditation to expand the self, this book explores the practice of meditation for people of any tradition including those with no tradition. Through a relationship with the earth, our place in the world, and our own bodies everyone can find a connection to all and seek wholeness.
Ancestral Cult
"This religion encompasses both the cult of life and the cult of death. Its intricate system is aimed at the preservation, continuation, and well-being of life through the interaction and cooperation between the living and the deceased members of a kin"For the first time in English, Emil Birkeli's classic study on the Norwegian ancestral religion provides a unique and vibrant exploration of how pre-Christian ideas and customs survived and flourished, living on through mysterious folk customs and traditions, some of which survive to this very day. Delve into the question of how the beliefs and practices of the Ancestral Cult, with its origins spanning the Stone Age, Bronze Age, and Viking period, lived on through the ages, reimagining and disguising themselves within the daily life of the people, their true origin and meaning becoming lost to time. What is the significance of the Wild Hunt, a motif that reoccurs across Europe? What lies at the roots of many of the old Norwegian Christmas customs? How successful was the Christianization of Norway, and how deep did it penetrate into the spiritual life of the people? Emil Birkeli puts forward an exciting explanation as to the nature of these obscure traditions and customs, namely that they were rooted in the religious ancestral worship which was practiced in Norway for thousands of years, and which would continue to be, unbeknownst to the practitioners themselves, practiced in camouflaged forms for centuries after the Christianization of Norway.

Resilient African Women
Africans hold a taboo in talking about mental and spiritual health hazards and disorders.Africans are afraid to discuss the spirits that are assumed responsible for spiritual or mental disorders. They hold the truth that spirits travel any distance in seconds or at most in a few minutes. They can be angry when you speak negatively about them and this can cause more havoc than the one the victim is suffering. At the same time, they are afraid of the surrounding people who hear them mention the suffering inflicted by the spirit against them. Where does this fear come from, and why is the fear strong and real? How can they be healed if they are not allowed to mention the source of their health problem? In this book, I shed light on this complex situation. What led these resilient African women to break the taboos? Resilient African Women shows African women's resilience in taking the lead in the struggle against life-threatening issues. Where the battle is the fiercest, God places his best army. Meet the resilient and powerful women who had enough of the taboos and decided to liberate their family and themselves from the situation and thereby their community.
Jonah and Nahum Prophetic Messengers to the Assyrian City of Nineveh
Written in a comprehensive style, this work is a detailed, expositional commentary of Jonah-the grace of God and the salvation of Nineveh-and Nahum-the vivid destruction and judgment of Nineveh-in a verse-by-verse explanation of each prophetic book according to the New American Standard Bible (NASB). In Jonah, the Ninevites of Assyria repented of their cruel and annihilatory exploits and were spared from destruction; however, less than a century later, the Assyrians apparently repented of their repentance and demolished the ten northern tribes of Israel in 722 BC. Although nineteen evil kings reigned over Israel since its inception in 931 BC-as a result of the divided kingdom-the entire nation of Israel was still God's sovereign elect. In keeping with His promises concerning the Abrahamic covenant, God will not tolerate the mistreatment and the oppression of His people. Hence, Nahum's message signifies the complete and absolute obliteration of the Assyrian Empire and its capital city, Nineveh.

Hope
In view of the climate crisis and the corroding of liberal democracy many people are wondering whether there is still hope. Instead of trying to give a comforting answer to this hopeless question, this booklet examines the phenomenon of hope, hope in ordinary life, hope in Pandora's box, utopian hope as in Marxism. Since utopian hope is a secularization of Christian hope, a study of this highest form of hope in the Western tradition is a logical follow-up. Rather than a mere repetition of how Christian theology understands the "heavenly virtue" of hope, what is presented is a novel interpretation of this religious notion of hope from the standpoint of psychology as the discipline of interiority, that is, an exploration of the meaning and function of (Christian) hope for the soul and in light of the question of the humanness of the human animal. The loss of religion and metaphysics in modernity is not the psychological disaster that it seems to be. It is also a gift of history, being the condition of the possibility of psychology, as Jung pointed out, and therefore also, as shown here, the condition of the possibility of a new, higher-level hope, psychological hope.
Made In Motion
Have you ever faced an overwhelming struggle? Unless there is some denial, the resounding answer is more likely YES. Recovery steps are important - the how-to's in getting back to the place where you were standing. Unfortunately, life is not generic. So, steps that worked for one does not always effectively work for another. We find then principles in scripture that govern, and are applicable to our individual circumstances. These are the principles shared in MADE IN MOTION.Read on. Realize that there is resiliency imbedded within your makeup. God ordained that you should walk even if you have fallen. We are being made in motion.
Full Gospel
For years I was taught that the quintessential gospel was clearly summarized in John 3:16. In other words, that single, shining verse providentially represented the whole gospel. Then, during the height of the Charismatic Movement, I became aware of another component of the gospel, a missing piece: the gift of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. I found an appropriate accompanying verse: Luke 3:16.But, as time passed, I came to realize that the emphasis on peace and justice was also a valid part of the gospel. I discovered a wonderful key verse: 1 John 3:16. All three 3:16s, taken together, offer us an insight into the heart of God: His Love for us, in us, and through us - into the lives of others. All of this is "FULL GOSPEL."
From Abraham to Armageddon
Israel, God's Time Clock! This book is an observation of how God answers the many who ask, "Is there a God? If so, does He have a reason for creating the people called the Jews? Is He manipulating the events of the world to serve His purpose? To what extent has He already determined what has taken place and will take place in this world?"God is using the nation of Israel as a tool to proclaim His existence, as well as His personality. Israel is God's billboard, God's timepiece, and God's ultimate focus of revelation. Through them, He has given us the answers to the questions most frequently asked, especially this question: what does the future hold?I hope you can understand the importance of studying the Bible and the nation of Israel.Reading this book will give the needed foundation to begin to understand why we are here!Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they shall prosper that love thee. Nationalism, Culture, and Gender in Myanmar
This book employs zat pwe -a popular performance art event-to examine how nationalist concepts of culture and gender shape and sustain power relations in Myanmar society. The focus is on the performance events, including the ten-hour nightly shows, the professional troupes that stage them, the Bama-speaking village and ward communities that organise and attend them, and the absent intellectuals who discuss them. Drawing on ethnographic fieldwork with several traveling zat troupes based in Mandalay, but performing across various states and regions, as well as with residents of different wards in Mandalay, the study uncovers a nationalist discourse that reaches beyond political arenas and into the everyday life of Bama society. This discourse is transmitted through concepts of culture and gender that influence the power dynamics between the educated elite and ordinary citizens, as well as between men and women. The research illustrates how these concepts, embedded in nationalist discourse, intersect with one another and with ideas from other discourses, reinforcing hierarchical relations. By focusing on zat pwe events, this book sheds light on a significant yet frequently overlooked aspect of Bama society, precisely due to the very power structures under examination. ABOUT THE SERIES Developments in the field of area studies - goaded by the analytical deconstruction of world regions as such - have deeply affected the knowledge production on societies and cultures located in these politicized compartmentalization of the globe. With this series, the editors and authors wish to contribute to a reformulation of area studies that emphasizes the continuing epistemic value of contextualized knowledge production that is firmly rooted in concrete places. Starting with the notion of Southeast Asia, books published in this series will contribute to a more nuanced understanding of regionality based on a multidisciplinary approach. The series represents an oulet for young schola
Children in New Religious Movements
New Religious Movements have arisen not only in the present but have also developed in the past. While they differ in ideology and practice, they generally seem to live in high tension with mainstream society, especially when it comes to child-rearing. This Element examines several aspects of children growing up in new religions. It relies upon literature from different groups concerning child upbringing, the function of children in the groups considering the religious ideologies, and parental perspectives and parental styles. It also utilizes accounts from young adults growing up in these groups, both those who chose to stay and who chose to leave their groups as adults. A range of topics, such as socialization, education, health care, and relations to surrounding society are explored. In addition, this Element considers issues of physical and emotional abuse, state interventions, and the impact of second- and third generations of children in new religions.
The Sacred Force of Star Wars Jedi
As secularization threatens the stability of traditional religions, Star Wars provides a case study of how key functions of religion may transfer to innovative organizations and subcultures that challenge conventional definitions of faith, sacredness, and revival. This Element therefore examines the vast community of fans, especially gamers, who have turned Star Wars into a parareligion, providing them with a sense of the meaning of life and offering psychological compensators for human problems. The research methods include ethnography, participant observation, census of roles played by gaming participants, and recommender system statistics. The Element also shows the genetic connections between Star Wars and its predecessors in science fiction. Investigating the Star Wars fandom phenomenon - which involves hundreds of thousands of people - illustrates how audience cults and client cults evolve. Ultimately, Star Wars remains culturally and economically significant as we approach completion of its first half-century.
With Two Hands
Establishing a relationship with Spirit takes time, energy, and the mastering of the arts of talking through prayer and listening through meditation. With Two Hands is written for those who are interested in establishing or cultivating a deeper connection with the Orisa. Maybe you find it hard to prepare for your shrine time. Maybe you are inconsistent in going to your shrine regularly. Perhaps you sit at the shrine and feel like you do not have the right words to say and draw a blank. Maybe you do not focus your mediation time with the Orisa on anything in particular, so your mind is constantly racing, and your thoughts are jumbled. Maybe there are specific things you are hoping to manifest. However, they have not come yet, and you can use some additional support. With Two Hands is broken into 31 days of prayer, mediation, and affirmations that open up the Spirit and call upon the energies of the Orisa to assist us in daily life with a variety of subjects, including patience, consistency, forgiveness, and being a good spouse or partner. The reader is encouraged to utilize the book for 31 days to find a deeper connection with Spirit and to explore their own discipline and consistency as they hold the Orisa with Two Hands

Aesch Mezareph
The ?sch Mezareph or Ash Metzareph, is only known to persons of Western Culture from the Latin Translation found in a fragmentary condition in the work entitled Kabalah Denudata by Knorr von Rosenroth, published at Sulzbach in 1677-84. These volumes have as a sub-title "The Transcendental, Metaphysical and Theological Doctrines of the Hebrews", and they enshrine a Latin translation, with part of the Hebrew text and commentaries, of the great Sohar or ZOHAR, "The Book of Splendour" which is the most famous of all the Hebrew mystical codices of the Kabalah. Lost Goddesses of Early Greece
For thousands of years before the classical myths were recorded by Hesiod and Homer, the Goddess was the focus of religion and culture. In Lost Goddesses of Early Greece, Charlene Spretnak recreates, the original, goddess-centered myths and illuminates the contemporary emergence of a spirituality based on our embeddedness in nature.
Sacred Revolt
In a compelling counterpoint to viewing colonial Indian-white relations as a series of uneven battles or unfair massacres, Joel Martin traces the cultural/religious history of the Muskogee "Creeks" from precontact times, through a century of nation-to-nation dealings with European traders, to a culmination of this interaction in the 1814 revolt against the U.S. Army at the Battle of Horseshoe Bend. Placed in a Muskogee context, this revolt is more than an uprising against white encroachment; it is the culmination of an ongoing effort by the Muskogees for cultural reaffirmation. Part of a growing body of literature in which Native Americans are viewed as dynamic participants in the events that encompass their worlds, this is an important contribution to U.S. history collections.
The First Dominican Friars in Boksburg, Brakpan and Springs, South Africa (1917-1927)
This book was originally published in 2017 to commemorate the centenary of the Dominican friars presence in South Africa. They arrived in the mining towns of Boksburg, Brakpan and Springs. Coming from a different milieu in England, they found it difficult to fit in. They chose not to get involved with the racial and social animosities, the labour unrest and even the socio-economic factors that led eventually to an apartheid government. Instead they focused on the task of building up parishes. The social situation they encountered led to frustration. Personal relationships between them deteriorated and most of the first group returned overseas unhappy or ill. It was only after 1925 with the arrival of more friars, that the work of building not just churches, but of living communities of priest and people, could begin. It was due to the persistence of two men, Bede Jarrett and Lawrence Shapcote, that the mission survived at all. This is a reprint of the 2017 book and is the first in a newly established Southern African Dominican Series published in the ATF Africa imprint of ATF Press Publishing Group. The book includes a Foreword by the Vice-Provincial of the Dominican Friars of Southern Africa in 2017, Stanslaus Muyebe OP

The Perfect Society
Everything you need to understand the philosophy, practice, and robust implementation of the perfect society-daiva-varṇāśrama- is contained in this new, thoroughly researched book by Dayānanda dāsa (ACBSP). The Perfect Society is destined to become the definitive treatise on varṇāśrama-dharma. Varṇāśrama is based on rural communities but encompasses much more; it involves changing society so that everyone's work-whatever it may be-is connected directly or indirectly to bhakti. Modern society is in chaos and must be changed. Varṇāśrama-dharma creates a peaceful, organized society, and those who understand it must lead the way. Kṛṣṇa asserts that those in asuric society do not know what to do to achieve liberation. And He declares that staunchly following varṇāśrama-dharma connected to bhakti awards supreme liberation. Krishna established varṇāśrama, and He describes how it functions. Implementing daiva-varṇāśrama-dharma is the way to organize society so that people work responsibly to achieve liberation and bhakti-and a perfect society. Without varṇāśrama, most of society will be denied the opportunity to achieve a connection to bhakti or devotional service to Kṛṣṇa. At present, Kṛṣṇa-prema is only available to those who are directly attracted to bhakti. But Śrī Caitanya wanted to flood the world with prema. The solution to this problem that Śrīla Prabhupāda has provided is to organize society according to daiva-varṇāśrama-dharma.It is for everyone. [The above is based on Śrīmad Bhāgavatam 11.18.46-47, Bhagavad-gītā 16.7, 4.13, 18.41-60, and Śrīla Prabhupāda's conversation, Feb 14, 1977: Varṇāśrama-dharma is para-upakāra-for mass benefit-not just for brāhmaṇas as ISKCON currently is.] "This is an important, well-researched, and deeply thoughtful book for the ISKCON society about the next phase in the dissemination of the sankīrtana movement-varṇāśrama. Life Planning - Learning to Make Every Day Counts
This book is about life planning and is based on the timeless principles from the extraordinary life of Benjamin Franklin and other accomplished individuals. It presupposes that life on Earth is governed by fixed laws. Why should anyone even attempt to organize their life? That is a valid question, considering the fact that most of the over eight billion people currently residing on Earth are still searching for and grappling with the meaning of life. Therefore, planning our lives may be considered far-fetched. However, planning is one of the fundamental laws of the Universe and is a learned skill. Most people do not plan because they do not know how. In the book Understanding the Laws of the Universe: Enduring Principles for Building and Maximizing Life on Earth, we discuss the law of planning. In this book, we explain how you can plan your future using the Almighty Formula, which allows you to live productively, touching your goals each day, and making every day count.
