Fake Fundamentals
Fake Fundamentals is a series of five books originally written over a 10-year span, which examines 50 common drills, instructions, and concepts related to coaching and skill development. This edition combines all five into one book. The original chapters have been arranged in four sections: Drills, Defense, Offense, and Sports Science. Nothing has been added; the order was changed to organize the content. During the 10-year span, McCormick coached in two European countries; coached varsity boys' and girls' high-school basketball; coached AAU; coached NJCAA Division 1 women's basketball; taught undergraduate strength & conditioning and graduate-level sports pedagogy; and started as a soccer referee, progressing from youth to NCAA Division 1. These experiences shape the book's ideas and questions. Fake fundamentals are drills or instructions appearing to teach important skills, but ignoring essential constraints. The question is not whether elite players or expert coaches use fake fundamentals. They do. The question is whether there is a better approach. Some original fake fundamentals, such as the step-slide or not crossing one's feet, are accepted by many coaches now. Others remain contentious. Should we teach the same closeout as was taught prior to the three-point line? Do we need the triple threat in the .5-second era? Why use the mile as a test for basketball? Fake Fundamentals is not about ostracizing specific drills and instructions, but encouraging coaches to think critically, question common practices, and search for the best way to develop people, players, and skills.

Nathan Pond's story is unique. Cooperstown's Back Door
For over 60 years, the color barrier excluded Black ballplayers from the major leagues, forcing them to form their own teams and leagues. After Jackie Robinson broke down that barrier, Black players faced another: the barrier to the Hall of Fame. I wanted to adhere to the basic definition of a cycle, "a sequence of a recurring succession of events or phenomena," and create an equivalent to the batter's cycle: a series of pitching achievements commensurate to a batter collecting the series of all four types of safe hit. A batter's primary objective is to get on base, which he can achieve entirely by himself by getting a safe hit. A pitcher's primary objective is to retire the batter, which he can do entirely by himself by striking out the batter. Since there are nine different players in the batting lineup, a reasonable cycle would be for the pitcher to strike out an opposing batter from each slot in the batting order at least once in a game. "Ghost Stories and Zombie Invasions Testing the Myths of Extra-Inning Outcomes" by Connelly Doan, MA The decision to introduce "ghosts" and "zombies" to MLB prompts two main questions "Does departing from the tradition of the game actually lead to shorter games?" and "Is the strategy of extra-inning games simplified to sacrifice-bunting the automatic runner to third and hitting a sacrifice fly or a single to score, thus making the game even less exciting?" This paper will present data from extra-inning games from 2018 through 2022 to try to answer these questions. We will look at average innings per extra-inning game, average extra-inning runs scored per game, frequency of extra-inning bunt attempts, bunt success rate, and the game situations when bunt attempts occurred.

Football in the Balkans II
The book is concerned with the history of football and its role in Balkan society. The aim is to analyse and discuss various aspects of football as a social and political phenomenon. Collectively the authors address the following themes: football's political background over the years; the formation and development of fan culture; the importance of football for various social groups and nationalities; the cultural framework; and the impact of football on international relations. The following regions are included: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, and Hungary. The book complements and is a thematic development of the issues raised in the volume Football in the Balkans I: Internal Views, External Perceptions (Peter Lang, 2023). Both volumes present the interplay between sport and politics and the shaping of sport policy in the Balkan countries.
