Master's Thesis from the year 2018 in the subject Sport - Sport Economics, Sport Management, grade: 2.0, University of Leipzig (Institute for Empirical Research in Economics), language: English, abstract: This thesis will provide the reader with a good understanding of the economic forces in the modern sports industry with a focus on European Football. The reader will be introduced to the most common measures of Competitive Balance and the existing literature on the topic. Equipped with this knowledge, the paper takes the reader on a recap of the European top leagues history with a focus on the Competitive Balance beginning in 1980. The final chapter then provides an econometric deep dive into the data for the Bundesliga. The commercialization of European football strongly accelerated in the early 1990s and brought tremendous revenue increases to the industry. Rapidly, broadcasting revenues became the clubs' main source of income. Some professional football leagues jointly sell their teams broadcasting rights as bundles and share the incomes with a certain degree of solidarity among them. This study tries to find evidence for the positive impact of such revenue sharing agreements on the competitive balance in Europe's strongest football leagues. Therefore, a newly developed measure is applied, which contains combined information about leagues absolute level of competitive balance as well as relative changes in standings over time. The results of the study mainly speak in favor of an enhancement of solidarity among teams, because of its positive impact on competitive balance and thus on a leagues attractiveness to customers.

"I have written it entirely from the sportsman's standpoint and have purposely avoided scientific details which would prove uninteresting or wearisome to the general public."Roy Chapman Andrews (January 26, 1884 - March 11, 1960) was an American explorer, adventurer and naturalist who became the director of the American Museum of Natural History.[1] He is primarily known for leading a series of expeditions through the politically disturbed China of the early 20th century into the Gobi Desert and Mongolia. The expeditions made important discoveries and brought the first-known fossil dinosaur eggs to the museum. His popular writings about his adventures made him famous. From 1909 to 1910, Andrews sailed on the USS Albatross to the East Indies, collecting snakes and lizards and observing marine mammals. In 1913, he sailed aboard the schooner Adventuress with owner John Borden to the Arctic. They were hoping to obtain a bowhead whale specimen for the American Museum of Natural History. On this expedition, he filmed some of the best footage of seals ever seen, though did not succeed in acquiring a whale specimen. He married Yvette Borup in 1914. From 1916 to 1917, Andrews and his wife led the Asiatic Zoological Expedition of the museum through much of western and southern Yunnan, as well as other provinces of China. The book Camps and Trails in China records their experiences. In 1920, Andrews began planning for expeditions to Mongolia and drove a fleet of Dodge cars westward from Peking. In 1922, the party discovered a fossil of Indricotherium (then named "Baluchitherium"), a gigantic hornless rhinoceros, which was sent back to the museum, arriving on December 19. The fossil species Andrewsarchus was named after him. Andrews, along with Henry Fairfield Osborn, was a proponent of the Out of Asia theory of humanity's origins and led several expeditions to Asia from 1922 to 1928 known as the "Central Asiatic Expeditions" to search for the earliest human remains in Asia.

The Game Warden and His Friend, Otto

Wardens do much more than enforcing fish and game law, and many of these activities are noted. I have offered a few tips about hunting and fishing, which I have learned during my seventy-five years of participation in these activities and observations gathered while spending countless hours in the great outdoors. The goal of this book is to inform the public about a warden's life and the many things he is involved with in his work. From Three Yachts
Conor OBrien sailed around the world 1923 - 1925 in his yacht Saoirse, which he designed himself and had built at the Fishery School in Baltimore, West Cork, Ireland. He was the first person ever to circumnavigate eastwards and south of the Three Great Capes - Cape of Good Hope, Cape Leeuwin, Cape Horn. For this ground breaking voyage Conor was awarded the Royal Cruising Club Challenge Cup three years running in 1923, 1924 and 1925. Saoirse was Conor OBrien's 2nd yacht. His first was was Kelpie, in which he ran guns for the Irish Volunteers in 1914, together with Ershine Childers in the Asgard. Kelpie sank off the coast of Scotland in 1921, after which Conor designed Saoirse (see above). During his circumnavigarion, Conor spent three months in the Falklands / Malvinas. When he returned to Ireland he received a commission to supply a boat for inter-island trading. Conor returned to the Baltimore Fishery School to build Ilen, which he then delivered himself.
