All Is Lost, Save Honour
You could sum up the Italian Wars of 1494 - 1559 in one word and that is 'colorful'. This guide to wargaming the period helps you bring that spectacle to the table top. Everything you need is here to begin recreating battles in this exciting time in history. The period saw the end of the dominance over battlefield of the heavily armored mounted men at arms and the use of huge seemingly unstoppable pike blocks containing thousands of soldiers. Foot soldiers fought with pike, polearm, sword and on occasion the fearsome zweihander. Ranged warfare saw the crossbow fall out of favor and the development and increased use of gunpowder. No single arm was dominant, careful use of the combined qualities of the various troop types was therefore essential for victory.Dress for the soldiers of the time was very flamboyant consisting of bright clothing of many different colors and hats adorned with large feather plumes. Huge flags, in great numbers flew above each of the units which made a spectacular sight on the battlefield. When you transfer this to the tabletop these characteristics produce one of the most visual and instantly recognizable periods of history in the wargaming hobby. The book begins with a brief historical overview of the Italian Wars before moving on to look at the different troop types in the conflict and how they are represented on the table. The author, with a little help from some friends will then guide you through building and painting your forces. Then with the troops mustered its time to get them on the table and roll some dice, included is a guide to refighting the first battle of the wars Fornovo along with some fictitious scenarios. So why not put on a pair of stripey trousers, a flouncy shirt and a feathered hat and start gaming The Italian Wars today?

Annotated Royal Road to Card Magic
My name is Mark Lewis. This is the book that changed my life. In fact I suspect it changed the life of a lot of other card magicians too. The Royal Road to Card Magic was first published in 1949 and 70 years later it is still considered the standard work in card magic. A terrific study plan which if you follow carefully (as I did) you cannot possibly fail to achieve proficiency as a card magician. You can start the book knowing nothing about card tricks but by the time you get to the end you will become an expert. Of course a lot of things have happened in card magic over the last 70 years since the book was first published so I decided to add some of my own ideas, variations and improvements to the material which I have performed for decades. I have added new ideas, variations to this classic book first published in 1949. Lots of colour photos added to the original text. Bonus appendix section with five extra chapters. 400 pages. Foreword by legendary card magician and memory expert Harry Lorayne

Swords of God
A narrative wargame set in the Age of Crusades that emphasizes fast-paced, abstract battles inspired by medieval romantic literature.Swords of God is a narrative wargame set during the Age of Crusades (1100-1400). Rather than attempting to directly simulate the physical aspects of warfare, the rules draw inspiration from chansons de geste and other romantic literature of the time, aiming to create a fast-flowing, abstract struggle - one still worthy of a song. The game is designed to fit battles of around 20,000-30,000 men per side onto a 6' ? 4' table. However, any table size can be used if your unit bases are smaller than the 'Impetus' standard of 120mm ? 40mm or as numerous as the sands of the sea! Focused on the command and control of key personalities in each army, the system accommodates battles of any scale with an easy-to-use points system. A quick reference chart is also provided to help determine the appropriate table size for your game.Inspired by historical studies of the Crusades like Avner Falk's Franks and Saracens, and Vincent Baker's seminal Apocalypse World rules engine, the game's deep yet simple mechanics encourage meaningful tactical choices while ensuring the action always moves forward. Among its features: - A unified mechanic based on rolling three six-sided dice.- Gridded movement to accelerate gameplay, with each square's side equal to half the width of a unit base.- Scenario generation that incorporates battlefield terrain.- More than half a dozen special rules reflecting the army commander's relationship with the divine. In an era defined by personal oaths and charismatic authority, these rules extend to their entire army.Army lists for campaigns in Iberia, the Baltics, the Languedoc, Bohemia, and the Levant include curated selections of generic unit types. Meanwhile, the Faith Trees - available to generals of any religion - offer unique special rules based on their emotional connection to the divine and the religious war that ensnares them. Each Faith Tree lends an army a distinct feel, ensuring a high degree of replayability, even within the same campaign.

Winning Suit Contract Leads
Winning Notrump Leads was a ground-breaking and very well-received book that used the power of computers to determine which opening leads work best against a variety of auctions at notrump. Using enhanced software, the authors now turn their attention to suit contracts. They generate millions of random deals, retaining those that match the chosen auction, for example 1S-2S-4S. By playing these deals automatically against each of the 13 possible opening leads from a given hand, they are able to discover which lead is most likely to beat the contract (also the best lead at matchpoint pairs). The authors provide insightful commentary to each result, answering timeless questions such as: When should I lead a trump? When is a doubleton a good opening lead? Should I lead differently against a partscore? Should I make an aggressive or a passive lead? Should I lead an ace against a small slam? Which leads work best against a grand slam? By using the number-crunching computer power available nowadays, there is no longer any need to rely on general opening-lead guidelines passed down by our ancestors. We think you will be surprised by many of the discoveries made during this investigation!
