Cleveland & Chagrin Falls Interurban vs Cleveland & Eastern Railway
'Kaleidoscope' edition, Vol. 6 is an in-depth and historic look through northeast Ohio's Cleveland & Chagrin Falls (C. & C. F.) and Cleveland & Eastern (C. & E.) railway interurban systems. The book contains an array of significant information not covered in previous editions. Comparisons between the two lines will be examined along with a merit of data. The author has previously published two books on the C. & E., therefore, the building history, operations and abandonment of the C. & C. F. route will be primarily focused upon. However, several important areas and Stops along the C. & E. line will be investigated. A comprehensive look at the Cleveland & Chagrin Falls line from Cleveland to Garrettsville will be presented. The author will take the reader on a Stop by Stop tour, creating an informative and panoramic view as to what was and remains today. This includes recent photos of remote locations along the right-of-way never before seen. An historic and comprehensive analysis of unique Stops will be examined. These include the Cleveland & Chagrin Falls Carbarns, Smith's Crossing, South Newbury Station, Punderson Lake, Hiram House Camp, Mooreland Hills Valley, Steele's Crossing, the Cleveland & Eastern lost church bell, along with construction materials from northeast Ohio's stone quarries which was used by the electric and steam railways to build and operate their lines. Each chapter contains an abundance of histories not previously published, offering the reader their own perspective as to why something may have occurred. For example, the Wales Hotel at Punderson Lake Stop 44 was removed two decades before the line was abandoned. The author provides a perspective from both sides, including a thorough history of Punderson Lake's development. Its later owners Mr. Cleveland and Long created the Lakefield Zoo which contained exotic animals such as Elk and Bison. Maps and blueprints denote the locations mentioned, providing an accurate placement and time frame. A large compilation of exclusive photographs are placed throughout each chapter in addition to a photo chapter. The story of Everett & Moore's interurban lines will place the reader back to the early 20th century, when life in northeast Ohio was simpler.

Choppers & Road Trips
In 1973, Dave got his first motorbike and started misadventures on two wheels. He became a professional carpenter and an award-winning custom chopper builder with his bikes features in magazines. Throughout his life, he has clocked up many miles on his '74 AMF Chopper on road trip adventures, capturing the moments in time with his camera. Dave continues to ride the same chopper 48 years later and still builds choppers in his spare time when he's not writing down his memories for the next memoir. Richard found Shovelhead Dave telling his stories on social media groups, and after many requests from people following his stories for a book, he decided to take on the challenge of working online with Dave collecting all the parts and producing a series of books covering 48 years of motorcycling experiences and road trips.
Lost Road Courses
The photos in this edition are black and white. Road racing's enduring legacy is revealed and celebrated as author Martin Rudow recounts the sport's glorious past while visiting more than 16 classic tracks that are now defunct across North America.Riverside International Raceway, Bridgehampton Race Circuit, Ontario Motor Speedway, Continental Divide Raceway, and many others were once major race venues that have since closed. The great race teams, legendary drivers, classic racing series that visited the tracks, and cars that turned laps are brought into full focus by Rudow, a road racer and road racing expert. The exploits of Chaparral, McLaren, Bud Moore, Lotus, Penske, and other race teams as well as racing greats Mario Andretti, Parnelli Jones, Jim Hall, A. J. Foyt, Al Unser, Jim Clark, and Dan Gurney are covered. Rudow also digs beneath the surface to reveal the story behind the story. The visionaries and businessmen who saw potential and risked capital to build these palaces of speed come back to life. He recognizes the unsung heroes and regional racers who competed, staffed, and took on various roles at these tracks. Many road courses were built in the 1950s and 1960s, the golden age of American road racing. These classic road courses built and hosted famous races for Trans-Am, Can-Am, IndyCar, Formula 1, and sports car racing, but did not survive the times. They fell victim to changing times, poor business decisions, urban sprawl, safety standards, and increasing real estate prices. In the pages of this book, a nostalgic tour of these famous races at these vintage road circuits unfolds. Many period photos illustrate the racing action and the tracks themselves in their former glory, and modern color photos show the tracks as they currently stand. If you're a fan of classic sports car, Can-Am, Trans-Am, IndyCar, and Formula 1 racing, as well as classic and unique tracks of yesteryear, this book is a must-have item.

The Cars of Harley Earl
The photos in this edition are black and white.Explore Harley Earl's impact on the automotive design landscape and the teams he led to create the iconic 1953 Corvette, 1955-1957 Chevy Bel Air, 1927 LaSalle, and more.Veteran automotive historian David W. Temple has researched and unearthed the complete story of Harley Earl's cars, his notable design achievements, and many accolades.Working as a coachbuilder at his father's Earl Automotive Works in Hollywood, California, the young Earl learned his trade. After styling the 1927 LaSalle for GM president Alfred P. Sloan, this book describes how Earl rose to prominence and ran the newly created department of Art and Colour. Automobile design stagnated during the Depression and World War II, but the number of his contributions to the automotive world in the 1950s is staggering. When the jet age hit, Earl fully embraced aviation design and infused it into GM cars. The Buick Y-Job and GM Le Sabre featured many firsts in automotive design and hardware. The Y-Job's fender extensions trailing over the doors, disappearing headlamps, flush door handles, and a metal cover over the convertible top were a few innovations. When General Motors needed to show off its cars and technology, Harley Earl-designed cars were the stars of the Motorama show that toured the country from 1949 to 1961. As a titan of American auto design, the cars he helped create are still celebrated today. And as an enduring legacy, he inspired a generation of engineers, designers, and stylists.Harley Earl's drive toward bold and innovative design spurred American car design during the mid-20th century. His distinctive designs defined the 1950s finned cars and set American automotive design on the path it has followed into the modern era. With this in-depth examination, you learn the inside story of these remarkable cars and the man behind them. It's an essential addition to any automotive library.

German Railways
Originally published in 1979, this volume is an invaluable study of a railway system and its adjustment to changing political-geographical conditions, as well as changes in economic and social geography. Each change in the territorial extent or in the internal territorial-administrative organisation of Germany has had its repercussions upon the spatial pattern of the country's economy and consequently upon the demand for transport. Furthermore, the central position of Germany within the continent has given an added importance to the role of its railways in the overall pattern of the European railway system. For the transport geographer the comparisons and contrasts with the British railway system are particularly insightful.

The Works competition cars notched victories at Le Mans, Sebring, the Monte Carlo rally, and many others and inspired privateers to take their cars to the track. Every model came from a bloodline of racing.Although they have not been built for more than three decades, their mark on sports car history is undeniable. Whether you're a fan of the spartan brutes of the 1950s or the refined comfort and performance of the last TRs, the backstory of your favorites is here.

Burlington Northern: The Final Years
The 1970 merger of Northern Pacific; Great Northern; Chicago, Burlington & Quincy; and Spokane, Portland & Seattle created a new super railroad spanning the northern and central United States over a 25,000-mile network. For twenty-five years, BN was one of United States' premier railroads. In its first decade BN had its hands full, paring down duplicate lines and forming a cohesive system from all the predecessor railroads, as well as investing in the explosive growth of Powder River Basin coal shipments. By the early 1980s though, BN had clearly become its own railroad, decked out in uniform Cascade green and black paint. The BN of the 1990s experienced continued growth in intermodal, grain and coal traffic, along with adding more hues to the company colours. With wonderful original photographs, Mike Danneman takes a look at the last dozen years of the Burlington Northern before the merger with Santa Fe to form BNSF in 1995.

Botts Goes to War
The world's favorite tractor salesman calls it quits and joins the army in the fifth installment of the Alexander Botts series, Botts Goes to War. In this volume of short stories written in the 1940s and set during WWII, farm machines have proven themselves indispensable to the war effort, and who better to equip war-torn Europe than Alexander Botts? Throughout the book, Botts encounters shortages of necessary materials, including rubber tires, cable, structural steel, and even civilian housing. Botts responds to each situation with characteristically unique and ill-advised approaches, such as sinking a tractor not once but twice to hide it from competitors or using priceless one-hundred-year old apple liqueur as fuel. Whether he finds success or failure so devastating that he is shipped off to another command, he survived to take on another assignment.Alexander Botts was created in 1927 by author William Hazlett Upson. The stories are based on Upson's work as a service mechanic and troubleshooter for the Caterpillar Tractor Company. For almost half a century, Botts was beloved by The Saturday Evening Post readers in more than 100 short stories. This book features two stories that did not originally appear in The Post. The series will be the first to present the collection in its entirety along with the original illustrations.
The Last Steam Railways
A spectacular, historical perspective and photographic gallery of the last working steam railways in China-the world's largest major concentration of steam locomotives in the 21st century. In the last half of the 1900s, China built ten thousand coal-burning steam locomotives across the country. These powerful engines ran in a variety of settings, from an open cast coal mine near the Siberian border to the semi-tropical remote hills of Sichuan, powering passenger trains that stretched one thousand kilometres across Inner Mongolia and pulling the local trains on forestry railways in the countryside of northern China. Then, in 2001, Chinese Railways retired almost all its steam locomotives. Nonetheless, some regional, local and industrial operations continued using steam for another decade or more. The photographs and photo essays in this book are a result of visits to dozens of these often-remote railways where steam was still being used. They highlight the skills of workers as they overhauled and maintained the locomotives and reflect on the lives of the people who depended upon them in a rapidly changing world. The Last Steam Railways: Volume One chronicles the last two decades of China's fascinating and picturesque steam railways in a visually dramatic and authoritative presentation. This is the first of three volumes that take the story of the last steam railways across Asia, Africa, Europe, and the Americas. With over five hundred original colour photographs, graphics, maps and tables, this is a spectacular addition to any history collection.

Ford Bronco
From the first drawings in the early 1960s to today's uber-popular new Bronco, get the full story of Ford's legendary SUV in this stunningly illustrated volume. When Ford introduced the Bronco for the 1966 model year, its intent was to get a slice of the off-road and outdoor enthusiast utility market then owned by the popular Jeep CJ and International Harvester Scout. What Ford couldn't know at the time was that it was creating a legend--a rugged, square-shouldered vehicle that would exist in its original form through 1977 and in various guises for a further 20 years, wrapping up its first life in 1996. Since the Bronco's retirement, the SUV/crossover sector has become the dominant segment of the automotive market. Nearly all manufacturers--even exotics like Lamborghini and Bentley--offer SUVs in their line-ups. In fact, Ford has largely discontinued passenger vehicles (except the Mustang) in favor of trucks and SUVs. Simultaneously, the collector market has turned its eye to vintage SUVs and trucks, the former growing significantly over the past 5 years. Classic Broncos have doubled in value over that period, regularly selling at prices ranging from $40K to $100K. The story picks up in 2017 when Ford announced plans to revive one of its most hallowed nameplates: Bronco. Brilliantly styled to pick up the beloved, boxy cues of the original, customers began dropping deposits as soon as the order books opened. Ford still struggles to meet demand with speculators flipping new Broncos on the secondary market for thousands over invoice. Beautifully produced and expertly written, Ford Bronco is a must-have book for all Bronco and SUV enthusiasts.

Lamborghini 60 Years
Celebrate six decades of outrageous, unforgettable Lamborghini cars with this must-have volume featuring fascinating history and stunning photography. Sixty years ago, Ferruccio Lamborghini put the sports car world on notice with the introduction of his V-12-powered 350 GT. Just three years later, in 1966, Lamborghini stunned the automotive establishment with its introduction of the stunning Miura, the first mid-engine production car. Rivals at the 1966 Geneva Auto Show could only stare in wonder. Wrapped in a svelte Marcello Gandini-penned body and powered by a 350-horsepower V-12, the Miura instantly made every other sports car look antiquated, including those offered by Lamborghini's Italian rival, Ferrari. It would be two years before Ferrari offered its own mid-engine reply in the form of the 206 Dino GT. For Lamborghini, there was the time before the Miura and the time after the Miura. It marked a sea change not only for the Sant'Agata manufacturer but for the sports car world broadly. The Supercar had arrived. In 1974, Lamborghini again shocked the automotive world with the mad Countach (an Italian expression one might utter at the sight of a beautiful woman), another Gandini masterpiece. Wide, low, and purposeful, the Countach completely redefined the supercar template, in the process becoming the poster car of choice for children of all ages the world over. As Supercars evolved to Hypercars, Audi acquired Lamborghini, giving new life to the firm and unleashing a series of amazing cars from the Murcielago to the Gallardo to the Aventador and Huracan. Today, there is even the all-purpose Urus SUV! In this richly detailed survey spanning 60 years of extreme performance, each of Lamborghini's seminal cars is detailed and complemented by historic and commissioned photography and technical specifications. Captivating to read and beautiful to behold, Lamborghini Supercars: 60 Years belongs in every sports-car fan's collection.
