The Sweet Story of diterpene glycosides- Steviosides

Harish,M  著
Ingram 出版
2024/09/07 出版

Stevia rebaudiana, a member of asteraceae family deserves a special attention in scientific community due to its twin focus: as a natural sweetener and as a therapeutic agent against diabetes. These two functional properties of Stevia rebaudiana have accelerated the commercial potential of this plant to a higher level than other plant system. This describes the biosynthesis of stevioside initiates from pyruvate by the enzymatic mechanism of DXS enzyme and it ends in the formation of glycosides by glycosylation using the marker enzyme Uridine diphosphate glycosyltransferases (UGT). The book opens a new world of understanding on the structural behavior of UGT enzyme and its importance in functionality of the gene towards secondary metabolism of the plant.

Translating Technology in Africa. Volume 2: Technicisation

Ingram 出版
2024/09/06 出版

This volume revisits one of the great challenges of our time - the global circulation of technology and the resulting technicisation. Together, the introductory essay and six case studies argue that while circulation inevitably leads to the global standardisation of some forms, successful technicisation depends on local appropriation that takes place in the interstitial zones of translation. These zones, characterised by their asymmetrical power relations, need to be constantly renegotiated, recreated, and maintained in order to sustain decolonial translations. The aim of this volume is to stimulate further experimental praxiographic studies of decolonial translation in processes of technicisation, and thereby ignite novel, forward-looking theoretical debates. Contributors are Sarah Biecker, Marc Boeckler, Jude Kagoro, Jochen Monstadt, Sung-Joon Park, Eva Riedke, Richard Rottenburg, Klaus Schlichte, Jannik Schritt, Alena Thiel, Christiane Tristl, Jonas van der Straeten.

The issue of protected area management

Ingram 出版
2024/09/06 出版

Protected areas in the Democratic Republic of Congo comprise 9 national parks and 63 hunting estates and reserves, managed by the Congolese Institute for Nature Conservation (ICCN). They cover 10.47% of the territory. At the end of this in-depth study of protected area management, we would like to express our sincere thanks to Professor LOHAKA DJONGA, Doctor of Science and seminar leader, for the didactic clarity of his presentation, his scientific rigor and his concern for training.During his teaching, he made an enormous and profitable effort, relying on multiple examples to concretize his most fundamental explanations. To develop in his students a spirit of analysis, comparison and initiation to the understanding of lesser things. After having rendered a more thoughtful service, practical work was given to the listeners with the real aim of cementing and concretizing the object of his teaching.

The Long History of the Future

Nicole,Kobie  著
Ingram 出版
2024/09/05 出版

We love to imagine the future. But why are groundbreaking future technologies always just around the corner, and never a reality? For decades we've delighted in dreaming about a sci-fi utopia, from flying cars and bionic humans to hyperloops and smart cities. And why not? Building a better world - be it a free-flying commute or an automated urban lifestyle - is a worthy dream. Given the pace of technological change, nothing seems impossible anymore. But why are these innovations always out of reach? Delving into the remarkable history of technology, The Long History of the Future introduces us to the clever scientists, genius engineers and eccentric innovators who first brought these ideas to life and have struggled to make them work since. These stories reveal a more realistic picture of how these technologies may evolve - and how we'll eventually get to use them. You may never be able to buy a fully driverless car, but automated braking and steering could slash collision rates. Smart cities won't perfect city life, but they could help empty bins on time. Hyperloops may never arrive, but superfast trains are already here. We always believe current technology is the best it could be. By looking to the past and the future, Nicole Kobie shows how history always proves us wrong and how what lies ahead may not be what we imagine, but so much better.

Songbirds of the West

Ingram 出版
2024/09/04 出版

Songbirds of the West includes more than four dozen songbirds that occur within the western United States. The majority are found in America's western National Parks, especially in parks where the author worked for more than a quarter of a century. Big Bend National Park is where he encountered Black-capped and Gray Vireos, Vermilion Flycatchers, Curve-billed and Crissal Thrashers, Hepatic and Summer Tanagers, and Black-vented, Hooded and Scott's Orioles. Black-billed Magpies were encountered at Great Sand Dunes, Clark's Nutcrackers at Crater Lake, Cave Swallows at Carlsbad Caverns, Cactus Wrens at Saguaro, Phainopeplas at Organ Pipe, Steller's and Gray Jays at Yellowstone, Black-throated Gray Warblers at Mesa Verde, Townsend's Solitaires at Timpanogos Cave, and Canyon and Rock Wrens at Zion. Great Kiskadees, Green Jays, and Altamira Orioles were encountered in the Lower Rio Grande Valley of Texas. The discussion of each bird is based on the author's personal encounters. These range from casual observations to scientific studies that were undertaken in both the U.S. and Mexico; still others involved visits to the West Indies. The bird's life history, behavior, and status are included.

Articulating Difference

Sophie,Salvo  著
University 出版
2024/09/03 出版

Enriches contemporary debates about gender and language by probing the histories of the philosophy and sciences of language. Drawing on a wide range of texts, from understudied ethnographic and scientific works to canonical literature and philosophy, Sophie Salvo uncovers the prehistory of the inextricability of gender and language. Taking German discourses on language as her focus, she argues that we are not the inventors but, rather, the inheritors and adapters of the notion that gender and language are interrelated. Particularly during the long nineteenth century, ideas about sexual differences shaped how language was understood, classified, and analyzed. As Salvo explains, philosophers asserted the patriarchal origins of language, linguists investigated "women's languages" and grammatical gender, and literary Modernists imagined "feminine" sign systems, and in doing so they not only deemed sex-based divisions to be necessary categories of language but also produced a plethora of gendered tropes and fictions, which they used both to support their claims and delimit their disciplines. Articulating Difference charts new territory, revealing how gendered conceptions of language make possible the misogynistic logic of exclusion that underlies arguments claiming, for example, that women cannot be great orators or writers. While Salvo focuses on how male scholars aligned language study with masculinity, she also uncovers how women responded, highlighting the contributions of understudied nineteenth-century works on language that women wrote even as they were excluded from academic opportunities.

The Mindlike Machine

Ingram 出版
2024/09/03 出版

This book describes Universal Plan (UP) theory. It says everything that exists is built from the same basic template of ideas. Claims include that it is the simplest most parsimonious explanation of existence conceivable, and is logically necessary. It is a complete theory of everything for a non-physical universe, generally compatible with philosophical idealism and simulation theory. UP theory is a new paradigm-shifting model of reality derived from first principles, with wide and profound implications. Science / AI: - A new theory of information and language.- The universe is made of information, it is a simulation.- A unification of human and computer languages, and all types of information. - A computational theory of mind and a new mapping of the senses. - Improved definitions for: logic, information, infinity, and many other concepts.- E.g. all paradox removed from the concept of infinity. Physics: - Everything is made of light. A unified "aether" model of physics.- New mechanical models of matter, charge, and magnetism.- A new theory of light and energy, entropy and order.- A new perspective on time, and on space / time. - A four-primary model of colour and colour vision.- The order of colours in the spectrum can be derived from logic. - An interference model of the prism.- The prism has never been properly understood. Philosophy - A definitive theory of categories (ontology). - A natural explanation and definition of morality. - Logical proof of "God", and an analysis of free will. - Rediscovery of "Alchemy" and the original "Philosopher's Stone".

Longevity

Lulu.com 出版
2024/08/30 出版

Longevity has puzzled medical scientists for centuries, with the lack of significant breakthroughs making it challenging for outsiders to claim advancements in this complex field. Naturally, skepticism about the validity of any new healing system may arise. However, I am not making assertions that cannot be validated through testing and analysis. The secret to a longer life is not exclusively within the domain of conventional medical researchers, nor can it be discovered solely in laboratories. Longevity is a personal experience, and only those who have achieved it can explain its secrets. Rejuvenating the human body requires an understanding of cells, their electrical functions, and the role of DNA in maintaining health and functionality. This book focuses on life at the microscopic level: the cell and its atomic structure. The secret to longevity can be found there. Conventional medical systems still employ techniques reminiscent of the Middle Ages, such as surgically removing body organs, when instead they should be focusing on restoring sensation to ailing body parts. The solution to the dilemma of terminal diseases lies not in biology labs but in revisiting the basic concepts of life-the atom-and gaining a biophysical understanding of human life. As an outsider to the medical community, convincing readers of the significance and authenticity of this new research on healing and prolonging life is particularly difficult. However, my conclusions are based on factual knowledge and confirmed by experience. I encourage readers to explore the rest of this book to become familiar with this innovative approach to healing the human body. This groundbreaking method represents a previously unexplored area of healing.

An inspiring blend of nature writing and memoir that explores nature's crucial role in our emotional and mental health Bats can hear shapes, plants can eat light, and bees can dance maps. When his life took him to a painfully dark place, the poet behind The CryptoNaturalist, Jarod K. Anderson, found comfort and redemption in these facts and the shift in perspective that comes from paying a new kind of attention to nature. Something in the Woods Loves You tells the story of the darkest stretch of a young person's life, and how deliberate and meditative encounters with plants and animals helped him see the light at every turn. Ranging from optimistic contemplations of mortality to appreciations of a single mushroom, Anderson has written a lyrical love letter to the natural world and given us the tools to see it all anew.

Shale Gas Occurrence and Flow Mechanisms from Innovative Insight

Yaxiong,Li  著
Ingram 出版
2024/08/23 出版

This book addresses the intricate challenges posed by the development of shale gas in nanoporous shale formations. By seamlessly integrating molecular simulation with mathematical modeling, the authors delve into the microscopic behavior of shale gas, particularly focusing on its occurrence, diffusion, and flow mechanisms. One of the key contributions of this book is the introduction of the concept of "wall-associated diffusion". This concept offers a fresh perspective on the intricate interaction between gas molecules and pore walls, providing deeper insights into how these interactions shape the overall flow characteristics.Furthermore, the authors propose a unified flow model that takes into account various flow regimes, providing a more comprehensive understanding of the complex flow behavior in shale gas reservoirs. This model not only enhances our theoretical knowledge but also has practical implications for optimizing shale gas extraction. The findings presented in this book offer valuable insights for improving shale gas extraction techniques and enhancing our understanding of unconventional oil and gas resources.

2024/08/22 出版

An invitation to explore the life-giving lessons we can learn from the Earth, featuring stunning photography and reflections from an acclaimed visual artist The Earth is the first tangible gift we were given. Yet when did you last pause to appreciate the immensity of the ocean, wander in silence through an ancient forest, or behold the grandeur of a mountain? How long has it been since you've felt grass beneath your feet? Accompanied by awe-inspiring full-color photography from landscape cinematographer and visual artist Stephen Proctor, Wild Wonder: What Nature Teaches Us About Slowing Down and Living Well combines pastoral observations about creation with an exploration of how it can provide healing to our minds and bodies. Divided into five parts that are each devoted to a unique aspect of nature--oceans, forests, rivers, ice, and mountains--Proctor encourages readers to recognize how being outside restores us and offers us a renewed sense of awe and wonder for the Creator. In each of the thirty brief essays, he points to some of the deep lessons nature can teach us. We can appreciate the gift of silence while observing a glacier, gain a new perspective on top of a mountain, learn the skill of slowing down from a river, and experience a metaphor of redemptive life after death through nurse logs. Each part includes an interview from an artist whose inspiration has been drawn from nature and ends with a "Time to Fly!" section that features reflection questions, simple action prompts, and sources for further exploration. Whether outdoor enthusiasts or armchair adventurers, readers of this book will be drawn into a more holistic and contemplative way of life and a deeper awareness of the beautiful world around them.

Phytoremediation using ornamental plants

Ingram 出版
2024/08/22 出版

The main objective of this study was to evaluate the resistance of ornamental plants in environments contaminated with Pb (lead) and to determine whether they can be used as lead remediators in the environment. To this end, an investigation was carried out into the remediation potential of the species Tradescantia pallida (purple ragwort), Ophiopongo jaburani (snake beard), Sansevieria trifasciata (St. George's sword) and Cuphea gracilis (erica or false erica) in absorbing/adsorbing lead from artificially contaminated soils. During the experiment, weekly photographs were taken to monitor and compare the plants' development. After 20 weeks of contamination, the plants were prepared for chemical analysis. The results show that all the species studied have the potential to adsorb Pb on their roots. When visually evaluating the growth of the species, comparing the uncontaminated and contaminated individuals, it was not possible to see any signs of intoxication, as they had "normal" growth.

How should Christians respond to an age of unprecedented environmental crisis? For too long, the Church has failed to emphasise the vital importance of environmental stewardship, both for the sustainability of humankind and through a God-given duty to care for the Earth. This book provides a short guide to what the issues are, how the Bible tells us we should live, and how, in the everyday decisions that we make, Christians can put into practice care for the environment in their everyday lives. It is a call to all people - and, most especially, people of faith - to renew a loving relationship with Creation and move towards a more sustainable future.

Addictive Pollution and Regressive Evolution- Homo Pollutus Addicticus

Ingram 出版
2024/08/14 出版

The global warming consequent to archaeal overgrowth, methanogenesis and internet mediated EMF pollution leads to heme oxygenase HO1 induction, increased porphyrin synthesis and porphyrion generation. This leads to porphyrin template mediated archaeal abiogenesis. The archaeal generation of pollutants like ammonia, nitric oxide, nitrous oxide, hydrogen sulphide, carbon monoxide, PAH, particulate matter, metal oxides and bioplastics can contribute to pollution, global warming, reductive stress and mitochondrial dysfunction. This leads on to the Warburg phenotype, sodium-potassium ATPase inhibition and Frohlich model quantal perception. The archaeal endosymbiosis leads to a transformation into homo neoneanderthalis and the hibernatory homo neofloresiensis species. The pollution addiction can be seen as an adaptive pollution as a means of species transformation and saving of civilization. This generates a world of whippets due to addiction to NO, ammonia, PAH, particulate matter leading to toxic psychosis. Global warming happens because of the pandemic of asphyxiophilia which can contribute to a shamanic-cannibalistic-hypersexual-addictive-eunuch species -the Homo pollutus addicticus.

2024/08/14 出版

The flying primate hypothesis explains how a structured social bat colony can evolve into primates and homo neanderthalis. The homo neanderthalis in the setting of global warming and extremes of climate living in isolated environment without food and water adapts to form the smaller homo floresiensis species. The homo neanderthalis and homo floresiensis species having nanoarchaeal symbiosis had expansion of the cerebellum and a small cerebral cortical structure. The homo floresiensis and homo neanderthalis themselves serve as a reservoir for retroviral infections. The retroviruses from the homo floresiensis or the flying primate bat colony would have integrated into the genome of the homo floresiensis generating the homo sapien species. The homo sapien species with a large prefrontal cortex would have evolved in the sequential way from homo floresiensis. The homo neanderthalic and homo floresiensis species having evolved out of a bat colony can serve as a reservoir for viral infections can thrive in the neanderthalic and floresiensis population which are resistant to them, but can infect and exterminate the homo sapien and neanderthalic-sapien hybrid population.

Archaeal Growth and Autonomous Global Warming Geological Cycles

Ingram 出版
2024/08/14 出版

The Homo neanderthalis evolved to Homo sapiens and homo sapien hybrids - linear evolution by horizontal gene transfer. The homo neanderthalic mutations contributed to homo sapiens and homo sapien hybrids generating a mutated species. The evolution would have happened in the Lemurian or Gondwanaland land mass. Lemuria is the site of origin for evolution of the Neanderthals, sapiens & sapien-Neanderthal hybrids. This area can be Antarctikos. Similarly, the North Pole or the Arctic area can be called as Arctikos. The Antarctic and the Arctic were subjected to global warming consequent to a rise of carbon dioxide emissions 55 million years ago corresponding with the origin of Neanderthals and sapiens. The carbon dioxide formed in the planet led to a uniform warming all over the universe. There are signs of asteroidal and meteoritic hits in both the Antarctic and Arctic continent. The meteorites & asteroids contain bacteria from the intergalactic space. The meteorites & asteroids would have carried intergalactic nanoarchaea to the earth. The meteoritic & asteroidal hits would have triggered earthquakes, tsunamis and volcanic eruption in the ocean beds as well as in the polar continents.

Human - Endosymbiotic Chimeric Tissue Colonies Hybrids

Ingram 出版
2024/08/14 出版

The protozoans like entamoeba with its viral, archaeal & bacterial endosymbionts would have evolved into the multicellular organisms or metazoa. The evidence of such a transformation is seen in the bacterial symbionts of protozoa like entamoeba which includes legionella, listeria, mycoplasma, mycobacteria & chlamydia and viruses like covid, HIV & cytomegalo virus. The protozoan entamoeba serves as a natural reservoir for covid infections, bacterial infections and HIV infections. These can be called as chimeric infective symbiotic tissue colonies which can exist in the air, water, earth, blood and tissues. The chimeric infective symbiotic tissue colonies containing bacteria, archaea and viruses can make the symbiotic organism multidrug resistant by horizontal gene transfer. The chimeric infective symbiotic tissue organism evolves as a consequence of global warming and are new form of life. The development of antibodies against the infective chimeric symbiotic tissue organism composed of protozoa and its symbionts leads to the evolution of anti-brain antibody disease.

Homo floresiensis and Homo neofloresiensis in South India

Ingram 出版
2024/08/14 出版

The Homo floresiensis evolved out of sequential evolution from Homo neanderthalis as an intermediate species between Homo neanderthalis and Homo sapiens. The homo floresiensis originated in South India, Polynesia, Australia, New Zealand, Srilanka and Indonesia after the breakup of the Lemurian land mass by tsunamis, earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. They were isolated geographically and grew up in conditions where food and water were scarce. The homo floresiensis was a homo neanderthalic adaptation and evolutionary phenotype to withstand the pressure of the environmental crisis produced by the break up of Lemuria. The homo floresiensis is a hibernatory adaptive species that evolved into homo sapiens. The homo floresiensis represents a flying primate bat colony with stem cell features. The present global warming and extremophilic conditions can lead to the generation of Homo neoneanderthalis and sequentially Homo neofloresiensis.

Extracellular Vesicles and Origin of Life

Ingram 出版
2024/08/14 出版

Extracellular vesicles are lipid bilayer-delimited particles that are naturally released from endosymbiotic archaea and can regulate human cell and tissue functions as an alternate nervous system. The protozoans like entamoeba with its viral, archaeal and bacterial endosymbionts would have evolved into the multicellular organisms or metazoa. The archaeal, bacterial and protozoal extracellular vesicles containing RNA and DNA viroids can by horizontal gene transfer lead to evolution of metazoan, plants, animals and human species. The chimeric infective symbiotic tissue organism evolves as a consequence of global warming and the protozoal, bacterial, viral and archaeal symbiotic colonies are new forms of life.

Cholesterol - Clay - Actinidic Crystals and Origin of Life

Ingram 出版
2024/08/11 出版

Global warming consequent to archaeal endosymbiosis, ammonia oxidation, methanogenesis, nitrate metabolism and cholesterol oxidation creates multiple shadow biospheres. Ammonia oxidation and methanogenesis creates a methane and ammonia based as shadow biosphere and methane and ammonia based organisms. Archaeal actinide depended cholesterol oxidase activity generates cholesterol crystal gene dependent shadow biosphere. The actinidic-cholesterol clay crystals would have generated the actinidic isoprenoid organism. Clay crystals would have acted as a template for abiogenesis of the actinidic cholesterol crystal isoprenoid organism. This would have been the original non-life self-replicating organism in the earth. The same patterns can lead to evolution of self-replicating non-life and life forms in other galaxies.

Environmental perception in higher education

Ingram 出版
2024/08/08 出版

The aim of this book was to assess the environmental perception of students on the Biological Sciences course at the Faculdade de Caldas Novas - UNICALDAS, located in the municipality of Caldas Novas, state of Goi獺s, Brazil. To this end, a qualitative-quantitative study was used to compute numerical data and the opinion of the subjects. The field research on students took place at two different times: in 2013 (entry) and later in 2016 (completion), when the same questionnaire was applied. In addition to the 23 students on the course, all the teachers (12) were interviewed to find out about their teaching practices and their knowledge of environmental education. It was concluded that the environmental perception of Biology undergraduates has increased considerably, however these undergraduates believe that the pedagogical practices used by teachers are insufficient for meaningful Environmental Education. Higher education professionals recognise that they need to train themselves and change their attitude towards society, as they understand that their actions can have a significant influence on their students and even on the environment in which they live.

Natural Disaster at the Closing of the Dutch Golden Age

Ingram 出版
2024/08/08 出版

By the early eighteenth century, the economic primacy, cultural efflorescence, and geopolitical power of the Dutch Republic appeared to be waning. The end of this Golden Age was also an era of natural disasters. Between the late seventeenth and the mid-eighteenth century, Dutch communities weathered numerous calamities, including river and coastal floods, cattle plagues, and an outbreak of strange mollusks that threatened the literal foundations of the Republic. Adam Sundberg demonstrates that these disasters emerged out of longstanding changes in environment and society. They were also fundamental to the Dutch experience and understanding of eighteenth-century decline. Disasters provoked widespread suffering, but they also opened opportunities to retool management strategies, expand the scale of response, and to reconsider the ultimate meaning of catastrophe. This book reveals a dynamic and often resilient picture of a society coping with calamity at odds with historical assessments of eighteenth-century stagnation.

Apollo 11 Secret - New Evidence About Apollo 11

Ingram 出版
2024/08/08 出版

This is not another book about conspiracy theories regarding Apollo 11. This book presents evidence challenging the claim that Apollo 11 landed on the Moon. It examines newly confirmed data from the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, along with existing images from NASA to uncover the truth of what really happened. The Apollo 11 mission has sparked a heated debate, with conspiracy theories deepening the divide between skeptics of NASA's lunar missions and their staunch defenders. The truth, however, may not be as black and white as it seems. While NASA did successfully land men on the Moon, Apollo 11 was not the pioneering mission it was portrayed to be. They deceived us. Instead, a secretive subsequent Apollo Mission was used to install the equipment that we now recognize on the lunar surface. The hoax was merely a movie production, and like all major movies, it had its flaws. Now, it's time for the truth to be revealed.

Slither

Ingram 出版
2024/08/04 出版

A spellbinding scientific and cultural study of snakes, the fascination and fear they inspire, and how surprising new science is indelibly changing our perception of these stunning and frightening creatures. For millennia, depictions of snakes as alternatively beautiful and menacing creatures have appeared in religious texts, mythology, poetry, and beyond. From the foundational deities of ancient Egypt to the reactions of squeamish schoolchildren today, it is a historically commonplace belief that snakes are devious, dangerous, and even evil. But where there is hatred and fear, there is also fascination and reverence. How is it that creatures so despised and sinister, so foreign of movement and ostensibly devoid of sociality and emotion, have fired the imaginations of poets, prophets, and painters across time and cultures? In SLITHER, science writer Stephen S. Hall presents a naturalistic, cultural, ecological, and scientific meditation on these loathed yet magnetic creatures. In each chapter, he explores a biological aspect of The Snake, such as their cold blooded metabolism and venomous nature, alongside their mythology, artistic depictions, and cultural veneration. In doing so, he explores not only what neurologically triggers our wary fascination with these limbless creatures, but also how the current generation of snake scientists is using cutting-edge technologies to discover new truths about these evolutionarily ancient creatures--truths that may ultimately affect and enhance human health.

summer of gravel and steel

Ned,Rozell  著
Ingram 出版
2024/08/04 出版

Thru-hikers in America have some nice options for summer-long walks where they don't have to bushwhack or stress about navigating. The Appalachian and Pacific Crest trails allow that type of passage. Alaska also has a gravel pathway across the state that Ned Rozell and his dog have hiked twice, one time 20 years after the first. Here is his story about his most recent summer crossing of the largest state on the north-south running path of the trans-Alaska pipeline. As far as he knows, he is the only one to have covered that ground on foot.

Intelligence Consciousness Intuition

Ingram 出版
2024/08/03 出版

The exponential development of artificial intelligence forces us to reevaluate what constitutes human intelligence, consciousness, and knowledge. It is a complex question that I explore with the help of established research, highlighting several thinkers with insightful perspectives on these topics. Through detailed explanations of fundamental concepts, I aim to make the content accessible to a broader audience, appealing to both academics and laypeople. The book is a call to every individual and society to be aware of and unleash the creative intelligence that exists in every person, waiting to be released. The first part addresses artificial and human intelligence, creativity and intuition, cognitive science and cognitive development, and the different characteristics of the two brain hemispheres. The second part discusses views on consciousness within psychology, philosophy, and physics, various theories of consciousness, phenomenology, existentialism, mental training, and meditation. The third part covers different forms of knowledge, theories of truth, ways to justify knowledge, ontology, metaphysics, knowledge development, self-awareness, education, scientific paradigm shifts, and the concepts of time and causality. The fourth part presents two qualitative studies on scientific intuition, one of which is conducted by me.
